Today I’ll show you a little known or used exercise that will stop the pulled chest so you can begin the process of building your mixed voice. This is a proven exercise that works for students who need extra help getting mixed voice and it will work for you.
Sir I've watched this video and I practiced the "Ng" exercise for one week and then I tried to sing a song in mix but it feels like pulled up chest voice and now only I'm realising that I did the exercise wrong way I can do the exercise with nose closed.. plz help me sir
Sir I could enter the bridge between chest and mix voice... The mix to head bridge is been very hard ... The worst scenario is that I can't be able to know whether I'm in mix or pulling chest... Thank you sir I'll watch the video
I studied with at least 4 vocal coaches including Ron Anderson. I bought CDs that cost hundreds of dollars. I've tried lessons from many UA-cam vocal coaches. Your videos have been by far the most helpful.
I am a rock singer and I used to gig constantly before the Covid lockdown. Now I swear, since I hadn't done a gig for 4 months, last week I went to do one and I basically couldn't sing with my chest voice anymore, it's like I had forgotten how to sing lol! All the full chest voice stuff was fine, but the higher mixed stuff I just didn't have it anymore, now I'm back on the right track lol thanks a lot!
I'm both flabbergasted and infuriated. I've been a professional singer for over 20 years. I've taken hundreds of voice lessons, dating all the way back to high school. I've never heard of mixed voice in my life. My break has always been just the worst, and it's stopped me from using my head voice my whole career. I can't believe I'm just now hearing of "mixed-voice." How was this never taught to me?! Thanks for this video series. My mind is blown.
Teachers who don't know about this, aren't trying to withhold information. They don't know that they don't know. My own teacher, who received his bachelors and masters in vocal performance could not find any teacher in his studies to help him and he was angry. Finally at age 27 he found someone who knew about this and helped him. He has devoted his entire life to develop a technique that everyone can learn. I was 43 before I found it. It is life changing for me personally.
Also, since you achieve it with such ease it saddens me that when I try the female range that I struggle as much as I do. Maybe it's just practice though.
Here in the Philippines, "ng" is present in most sentences we used everyday with our native language and also in our songs like "Ngayon" "Ang" "Saang" "Aling" "Merong" "Ngalan" "Mga"-pronounced as ma-nga and many more. I am not bragging and I do not know if this is the reason but me and most of my friends and family could sing really well. I do not know if it is because of us loving karaoke but I really think pronouncing and singing with "ng" sound really helps.
Thanks to this ng technique I finally transitioned between head and chest voice without breaking . It was very soft and needs much more practice but now there is something to practice thank you so much❤️
Wow! you made my voice sound 10 times better and saved my voice from further abuse. Thank you so much for this video. my voice sounds so much richer, I can even apply it to talking. You're awesome! Thank you from the bottom of my heart. :D
Hi Chuck! I've been singing my entire life but a few months ago I found out about the existence of "mixed voice" and I suddenly understood exactly what my voice was missing and how that was holding me back from being a better singer. For months now I've been reading articles, watching videos and doing exercises but to no avail. I just found your videos and was pleased to find out that you actually didn't know how to do mixed voice and were able to teach yourself! That gives me hope!!! So I've been watching a bunch of your videos and I'm trying to do these exercises but my stupid flip-falsetto voice keeps having to choose whether to do them in chest voice or falsetto... which am I supposed to be doing them in? Should I "flip" between them? I just can't see myself ever bridging the gap :( Please help!
Hi Rebecca: I didn't learn on my own. I had a bunch of teachers to help me. Here's a good starting place to start working on your voice. Watch this video and follow the directions. ua-cam.com/video/d0Ob8WGmvPc/v-deo.html Good luck Rebecca and keep me posted!
This was so helpful thank you! I used to be very good at finding and keeping my mixed going, but after my voice changed and I stoped singing as often I lost it. these were so great!
This video was so helpful and so is your whole channel, thank you so much for also taking the time to answer questions on the comments, you're so nice!!!
I have a Danzig/Elvis belting style and this has been an issue with me- the limiting “pulling” sensation where I know there’s a ceiling on how high I can go before going into airy (and thus less aggressive) head voice. I will dutifully do these exercises, thank you!
Just be careful not to break into a disconnected falsetto, as this will not enable you to sing with a mix of chest and head voice...there will be no chest voice to mix.
Thanks a million for this. I thought my voice was damaged and as a person who lives below the poverty line and also in a place where singing is not thought, I just was hoping for a miracle. Not only did the test helped me realize I was pull-chest and high larynx voice type. For the first time it is showing me the exact location of my larynx . My major challenge is the stop pulling
You are not alone. The majority of singers tend to pull the chest voice and raise the larynx. But this technique will teach you how to change all that...and life is never the same afterward!
@@PowerToSing It is one used by Franco Tenelli and is from the Caruso exercises, per him. I can check it again (I have done them a thousand times!) but I am pretty certain that is the same. Some crazy Gestalt, huh?

I need to check out that pdf for sure…been working on my mixed voice for about 20 years but still find myself pulling chest on certain songs/ranges. When I manage to avoid it I can sing for hours without fatigue!

Hi D.S. More chest voice, which is pulled up higher, is not going to help build a better mix. It only builds a better pulled up chest. Depending on the voice, that might work for a few years. But eventually the voice stops working very well, vibrato slows and students can't figure out what they are doing wrong. Chest voice for a guy tenor or baritone begins at the E4 just above middle C. E4, F, F#4 is the all important first bridge. Get it right and you get almost everything else right!
It is applicable to any song that goes into or through the first bridge of the voice when you begin to use a mix of chest and head voice. The first bridge for men begins on the E4, F, F#4. For ladies it is A4, Bb, B4, C#5.

When I do the first exercise, I can feel and hear a definite shift in tone as I approach the bridge. I just can't seem to grasp the feel of that smooth transition through the passaggio. If I try to maintain the more chesty feel for the higher notes, I only get the pulled chest. So basically, I want to ask if I'm doing it wrong if I feel like my voice is shifting rather than maintaining a smooth connection throughout. It's hard to explain, but it sounds like NG~NG~NG~HNG~HNG~HNG~HNG~NG~NG. Thanks you!
