Singing reminds me of some of the engineering courses I used to take - lots of equations to memorize - really complicated. But if you actually understand what's going on, what is really going on within the system, you can derive the equations yourself without having to memorize all the equations. This is what Chris has accomplished. it's great to see a pro just, pardon me saying this, fuck around with their voice. really gives me courage to go where I wouldn't normally venture. thanks!!
16:20 - that is such a problem among male singers namely. They’re taught that chest voice is their domain above all and that they don’t have a real head voice unlike females. They then end up with overshot voices that have too much weight and a capped chest range, with a weak, hooty falsetto.
Just watched this again. You are a fucking genius Chris. Everyone overcomplicates this and compartmentalises all these different areas of the voice, but its all really different shades of the SAME thing! So much easier to think of it your way. I think you're the best vocal coach on UA-cam. PLEASE can you share with us your daily WARM UP ROUTINE that you use before a gig or studio session? I would love to know. Many thanks, Will
From my first day of singing till this day, I've never heard anyone bring in this perspective on how you classify voice type. This video really changes my perspective forever. I find it easier to view voice as one whole type as you suggested and start to experiment with my own voice. You are the best Chris Liepe! I can't imagine how much consideration and detail to make this teaching video. I very much appreciate it! Very lucky to have found your channel!
I think this is the best explanation I have seen so far, it really opened my eyes. I thought of head voice vs. falsetto as if head voice was some complete different vocal mode, but actually, it is just head voice with few compression and a lot of air coming through.
Love it! I second a video about vowel modification and such. One of the concepts a lot of people talk about but there is not a lot of information online for. Like how to connect let's say A and Ee without strain, how to use vowels in high mix etc. Keep up the amazing work!
Chris I just wanted to say this video was an eye opener again. The moment I understood you're right about "head voice" just being a form of mixed voice in head resonance my range got way higher and crisper than before! You're seriously a wizard
This video is so perfect in explaining how to sing in different registers and then mix them up as one full voice. Thank you so much for solving the mystery of mixed voice.
You're just a very sympathetic and authentic person which is is also important for being a good teacher. Great videos! I'm glad UA-cam suggested me your vids! Greetings from Germany :)
Thank you so much Chris. I was playing with my falsetto for few days, after I watched some of your videos, in the expense of my neighbour's mental health, I figured out how to sing without straining my vocal cord! Singing has become so much easier and the sound is much powerful now! I wish I had a teacher like you when I was younger!
Your technique is really incredible! I've never sung in a mixed voice before watching this video and just trying alongside you. I will certainly be watching a lot more of what you have :)
Excellent tutorial! I wasn't able to get from headvoice to mix... but you explaining the use of compression in head voice to get to mix helped so much. Thank you!!!

This really helped me understand. I always thought that I could not get head voice. Your explanation of head voice is falsetto supported made so much sense because I know what falsetto is but never really understood. Head voice is falsetto closing the cords!
Dude this video is amazing. You've helped unlock something in my voice + understanding. I'm suddenly singing songs I thought were completely impossible for me to sing, and actually sounding reasonably good. Thank you!!
Im considering myself intermediate singer and i went to this audition thing for a project. I sing mostly metal/rock and it took many years to get that hard compression work fluently. When the voice teacher in the audition told me to give a falsetto, I simply couldn't do it since my body didnt remember how to do it for not singing pop for so long. I was so frustrated. This video cleared it out for me. Thank you for best instruction I've seen so far of this subject. Also the distortion video was pure gold, I could have learned it easier way I guess :D
I'm now able to sing in falsetto better than I ever could using all of your techniques and tips for both head voice, chest voice etc. Even able to sing creep and get great comments on it. Thanks Chris awesome.
It’s three o clock in the morning and I’m in my room high pitch whispering (kinda) repeating whatever this man says and trying to make the same sounds. The rediculous part is it’s actually working. I have been trying to get my head and mixed voice for so long and I feel like it’s gonna happen soon mainly because of this video!!! I’ve been feeling like I’m at a point as a younger baritone that my belting is starting to hit a ceiling in terms of range atleast and if I don’t just want to be yelling in choir I might need to learn something else. I hope to join the altos soon lol. Thanks Man U are such an awesome teacher!
Usually tutorials that sound interesting to me are put in the "Watch later" folder. But yours always go straight to the "Useful Lessons" folder, because I have not seen a single video on your channel that was not useful so far. Keep up the incredible work! Cheers from Germany :)
FINALLY!!! SOMEONE MAKES SENCE!!! It is possible the hardest to build your range and support at all the range with just mindset "we are building your true head mix now, falceto isnt your correct voice" and many teachers doing this!!! But it IS my voice, my TRUE VOICE!!! The other thing, it is the ability to compress the sound what you shold master, to use you resonators, which you ALREADY HAVE. TO master your feelings and match them with results! Thank you so much!
This is the first video of yours that I've watched and you, my friend, are the real deal. I've been watching youtube vocal coaches for a number of years (never been formally trained) and you've taught and demonstrated more in this one video than any other video I've seen so far. And your not charging for all this information...really nice.
Wow it doesn't matter what it is called but try to develop them altogether, (for simply it's all your voice) you are not just a professional singer but a talented teacher as well, thank you man
So rare to found a vocal coach like this one! I tried to sing a lot of songs including Can You Feel the Love Tonight (Elton John), Perfect (Simple Plan), Yellow (Coldplay), Decode (Paramore), Let You Go (Jason Walker), etc.. but only end up making an instrumental of my own cause it's almost impossible to sing along with them (otherwise, i'd resort to falsetto all the time which would sound shit) I'm a male yet i only find the female key instrumentals/accompaniments and a lower pitch comfortable for me to sing.. Male voices of original songs are so high so i compose/make my own instrumentals instead in a higher/female key and sing with head voice most of the time.. The only original songs i could sing along to without the need to change the pitch is Little Things (One Direction), Chasing Cars (Snow Patrol), Hallelujah (Jeff Buckley), Bad Day (Daniel Powter), Wrapper In Your Arms (Flyleaf) etc.. (these songs force me to go head voice and chest voice most of the time)
Dude, this is amazing. I've been piecing this explanation together for the past thirty years, and, back in the 90's I had vocal coaches, opera coaches, I even had one guy that made me do push ups, and never has anyone explained the difference between head and falsetto better than this short video. I actually learned something in twenty minutes. That never happens on UA-cam. Chris Liepe, you're a genius, and you also seem like a hell of a nice guy. It's gonna take a while, but I think I'm gonna start saving my pennies for this course.

They say those who teach and do…. You’ve completely blown that old bull shit right out of the water. Amazing control, pitch, timber and range. Thank you for helping us mortals improve. 🫡
12:46 This is priceless. 😁 I love your videos as you demonstrate things excellently and as they are, not overly thinking if it gives a "cool" impression or builds up your ego. And it is pretty clear you really put effort in explaining things in an easily accessible way, meaning you really care about if we can get the idea and benefit from it. Really refreshing approach as many use these kind of videos mostly for marketing. Utmost respect. 🙏
Chris, you are the first person I have encountered that could present that information in a way that truly made sense. The questions you answered in this video have had me stymied for years...thank you for your succinct explanation of how all the registers fit together. I accessed a part of my range tonight I didnt know I had nor did I know I could use it. A breakthrough! I cant thank you enough!

Congratulations !!! 09:49 - that should be a ringtone !!! Is that song in the intro and outro yours ? What is it called ? It is very beautiful ! Thanks once again ! All the best !
There was a time when I usually listened to Sonata Arctica. I really liked the high vocals and started figuring out how to imitate that. Eventually, a few years ago I could sing G5 and higher. I stopped practicing it (even had an operation)... From last year I was focusing on my chest voice and the smooth transition when going higher. Noticed that although I improved, now I can't remember how to hit even E5 properly. So, thank you for the information, this will help me to remember and become even better.

16:20 - that is such a problem among male singers namely. They’re taught that chest voice is their domain above all and that they don’t have a real head voice unlike females. They then end up with overshot voices that have too much weight and a capped chest range, with a weak, hooty falsetto.
Right all of them are part of the voice the head register model chest and middle register
stop talking about me Gillian. so not cool. :P
i've had so many people say to me "but you're doing falsetto though..." as if that is something to be ashamed of
@@dudaseifert Oh my god I hate this
Man your vocalizing with the track at the beginning and the end is awesome. Absolutely beautiful tone and sound. A feast for the ears.
Many thanks, Will
LIVE weekly practice sessions coming soon!!
@@chrisliepe Awesome! I'll look forward to those. Just found the warmup video you posted a while ago, very helpful thanks.
head voice is the MODE. falsetto is the EFFECT.
Very clear and practical explanation! I learned more in 20 minutes of this video than in months of vocal coaching..
Glad it was helpful!
1:48 to 2:40 I m literally addicted to that part, you sound like an angel
I think this is the best explanation I have seen so far, it really opened my eyes. I thought of head voice vs. falsetto as if head voice was some complete different vocal mode, but actually, it is just head voice with few compression and a lot of air coming through.
Out of all the coaches I’ve watched you easily have the best singing voice I’ve heard, I’d actually listen to your music.
Using the break is something I always struggled with. I learned something today. Thank you.
Thanks for good lesson. The world has become one millimeter closer to harmony, thanks to your shared discoveries.
Excellent tutorial! I wasn't able to get from headvoice to mix... but you explaining the use of compression in head voice to get to mix helped so much. Thank you!!!
It's possibly one of the best Videos about singing I have ever heard..took me years to find this guy.. brilliant..
Falsetto + Closure = Mickey Mouse.... Falsetto + Light Closure = Michael Jackson's speaking voice
Love u man 😂😂
It immediately sounded like MJ to me too :D
Hi Sir,
I was often looking for video lessons and coach for my daughters. And I am very pleasure to say you I finally found such coach. That's you Sir.
Way you using is very obvious, clear and genuine.
These have to be the most fun and educational voice lessons I have ever taken. Thank you so very much. The fact that you are able to explain singing in such an effortless way is a testament to how in-depth your knowledge is. Your talent and passion is inspiring. Thank you again
This really helped me understand. I always thought that I could not get head voice. Your explanation of head voice is falsetto supported made so much sense because I know what falsetto is but never really understood. Head voice is falsetto closing the cords!
I'm so amazed on this masterpiece! and was totally shocked when you belt at 2:04, so many unexpected things. Hoping for my voice to sing like you do.
Dude this video is amazing. You've helped unlock something in my voice + understanding. I'm suddenly singing songs I thought were completely impossible for me to sing, and actually sounding reasonably good. Thank you!!
I am so grateful that I found your channel. Thank you for another amazing video! 🙌🏻🙏🏻
This guy is legit for 2020, I love singing. You give me reason to get going. Thanks bud.
I'[m flabbergasted by seeing what I can do with my voice. Thanks to you Sir !! YOU'RE A LIVING LEGEND !!
This video took me a few watches before I understood what was going on so if you’re confused after watching this once don’t give up!
You know what people need to understand how voice works with great great examples. You deserve million views
Thank you!
I'm now able to sing in falsetto better than I ever could using all of your techniques and tips for both head voice, chest voice etc. Even able to sing creep and get great comments on it. Thanks Chris awesome.
Awesome!
The clearest explanation of falsetto and head voice difference. Thank you.
9:31 to 9:55 is the goldmine right there...thank you, Chris!!!
Usually tutorials that sound interesting to me are put in the "Watch later" folder.
But yours always go straight to the "Useful Lessons" folder, because I have not seen a single video on your channel that was not useful so far.
Keep up the incredible work!
Cheers from Germany :)
This dude is next level self esteem! Love it. Love everything about it.
As a singer myself, I honestly think you're the best vocal coach on UA-cam. Commended. ;)
Till now I was searching this video for 4 hours continuously..u r the exact guy
You are a very good teacher ! thank you Chris!
I'm seeing a lot of improvement in my singing whatching your videos. Thank you for such great work!
Very professional vocal coach
That song in the beginning is crazy well sung. Has some strong Muse vibes. Beautiful.
Как называется песня ?
This video really made it clear to me. Most of my choral life I was in my head/falsetto, and rarely actually went into my chest
I tried to sing a lot of songs including Can You Feel the Love Tonight (Elton John), Perfect (Simple Plan), Yellow (Coldplay), Decode (Paramore), Let You Go (Jason Walker), etc.. but only end up making an instrumental of my own cause it's almost impossible to sing along with them (otherwise, i'd resort to falsetto all the time which would sound shit)
I'm a male yet i only find the female key instrumentals/accompaniments and a lower pitch comfortable for me to sing..
That’s so cool to hear! Thanks...I appreciate it. :)
The most fearless singing teacher on UA-cam - very generous tutorials. Chris do you subscribe to any particular teaching philosophy regarding singing - I know on UA-cam there is a lot of ‘sls vs bel canto’. How did you learn?

They say those who teach and do…. You’ve completely blown that old bull shit right out of the water. Amazing control, pitch, timber and range. Thank you for helping us mortals improve. 🫡
Oh my goodness! You have the most amazing vibe and the most amazing attitude of giving and sharing! Plus, a beautiful voice!
As a singer myself, I'd like to let you know your work is really outstanding. Keep up the good work!
This guy is an amazing singer and teacher! Who would give this guy a thumbs down when he is giving us the "keys to the kindom" for free?!
Could you PLEASE make a song with this part 1:48 ???
It sounds so good, I listen to it every day :)
Ok this is hands down the best video on falsetto / head / chest voices
16:30 wow!!! That’s a good message!!
You're beautiful. Your voice is beautiful. Your pedagogy is beautiful. Thank you.
My neighbours be like, "What animal is that?" 😆
Thank you Chris, this is the gem video of Singing.
Now I understand the mechanics of singing. Some teaches for money but you teaches to inspire.
Thanks a lot again, I will continue to learn from your videos.
Man , I thought your mixed voice and belting video from last week was your best . This one is even better. You produce a better one every week ? How is that even possible ?! Congratulations !!!
09:49 - that should be a ringtone !!!
Is that song in the intro and outro yours ? What is it called ? It is very beautiful !
Thanks once again ! All the best !
The best vocal channel on UA-cam as of now
There was a time when I usually listened to Sonata Arctica.
This Ken Tamplin guy seems to be all over the place but I never got anything out of his vids. Your tutorials are by far the best I've ever seen.
I agree. He teases but stops short of completely explaining anything. I got more out of this one video with Chris than the dozens I've seen by Ken.
Finally someone got it sorted out for me, staying objective and neutral! Thank you!
YES!!! THANK YOU! This is the video I needed. I've watched countless hours of videos like this on UA-cam, but this one is THE BEST. You explain it very, very well and demonstrate everything, so we can replicate that. You rock!
Wish I can sing like you. Thanks for the lessons!
Need2Retire We'll reach his level eventually! We just gotta keep experimenting :))
Your content is pure treasure. I thought that I already know all best teachers here on YT - and yes, I did - but finally found the King :D thank you master, your real-life practice videos are awesome, I greatly appreciate
I caught myself wanting to upvote the video and then realizing I already did 1 minute earlier lmao
This is the best thing I've ever seen. Eloquent. Mindblown. Subscribed : )
Thanks so much for the sub Tanner! I'm so glad it resonated with you!
