I really appreciate your knowledge and your ability to convey it in a straight forward manner. Having said that, your sense of humor is 'off the charts'!
Great video - I nearly fainted when you started to cut it with a pair of scissor but had full confidence that you would correct the problem. Great work!
Putting aside your excellent work ethic, skill set and decades of experience ; I find the trust and confidence the Shelby owner has in you to be the truest measure of you as a craftsman and extraordinary human being. Thank you for investing your finite time and resources to graciously and generously share your lifestyle and work space with your viewers and subscribers. All the best of good health, long life and prosperity to you and yours👍.
with that engine i heard that Ford used to say the engine itself needed to be taken out of the engine Compartment in order to change all the SparkPlugs for a tune Up although i was told by a Car Owner that it could be unbolted from the engine mounts and tilted or lifted enough to access that one Plug for removal and replacement BTW my Dad was a Mustang Enthusiast i had a couple of first generation ones but nothing that special i did not catch the style of the Pad but that’s probably most of my Convertibles I’ve owned have been British and Antique British Sports Cars that don’t use any padding or headliner in the Tops i like your videoes i am a hobbyist Upohlstery guy that is now retired and i watch your videoes to learn new tricks, techniques , and what i’ve been doing incorrect i actually got into it because i wanted to do some of my own Vinyl and Canvas work on my Boats and Repairs on my Vintage and Antique Sports Cars not just to save money but to have more Control over meeting deadlines
My bmw aftermarket top was good quality material and good fit, but they did not use solar thread to sew it up so after a very few years the thread started disintegrating from the UV.

Ok, "Not attached" "Cardboard".. PLEASE.. Tell us what it should be.. Srewed in from underneath?? Glued in? What kind of glue?? Cardboard- ok.. should it be wood? Soft or hard wood? Plastic?
Hello Oceanside, Sorry to say that is not a how-to video. Originally the tacking strip is a pressed cardboard. Replacement is polyurethane glued in with the same polyurethane glue that is used for gluing in windshields. This is really a video for experienced upholsters about what not to do. Thanks for watching!
@@oldschoolautoupholstery I'm a body man over 50 years experience and I am going to put a top on a 1989 Dakota convertible it is a very small top I think I can manage it but I'm trying to familiar myself with things and I have never attempted a top but around here in Dayton Ohio nobody's got any help everybody's backed up months.. I'm just gonna do it myself. thank you , and FJB for screwing up the workforce.
I dislike convertibles lol. I know they are great for business but they always cause so much trouble or take way longer than the book says. Especially these new pads, i always have to make my own

Oh wow, what a tragic situation. Sometimes the aftermarket companies cut corners to reduce cost.
Was the problem with a poor made aftermarket top? Or was it a problem with the installer of the top did a bad job? What top brands do you like to use?
This was an Installer fail. The original installer never took any measurements and only guessed the whole thing. I trust Robbins and EZ on brands.
Beautiful job. Now I want to try one! Thanks for the video.
