- We love seeing young people driving old muscle cars and keeping the tradition alive. This scruffy but strong 1969 Mustang Convertible is Armon's daily driver. It's not his first car, but is his newest car. We say, bravo.
Check it out on Wheelwell!

Love the old-school Mustang, and props to the dude for daily-ing that bitch. You can do that in California. Not so much here in Pittsburgh...
+Whatareyoudoingyouidiot You could if you had different priorities.
+headcas620 you would ruin the car in 3 years of driving with salted roads even if you had the mentality to daily a muscle car year round in western pa. If you want to do that, buy a 5.7L dodge charger. Same attitude but ABS and Traction control a body not prone for rust and no one cares if its junk in 6 or 7 years. The north east, specifically area's in the shadow of the great lakes, are hard as hell on cars.
Helter Skelter
Pretty much this. Classics are for summer when there's no salt on the roads to ruin them.
Helter Skelter Only if you're a pleb and live in the rust belt. I don't have to worry about that in south carolina.
headcas620
Where the fuck do you think Pittsburgh is, Arizona?!
This was awesome, I'd love to see you do more classics! The owner is awesome too, I wish I was brave enough to daily drive an old car with no safety equipment aside from lap belts lol. I really need to start saving for a classic Mustang for the weekends though, this dude inspires me.
+subaruwrxfan >wanting safety equipment
kids these days... All this car needs is 3-point belts and power brakes.
Start a gofundme for a mustang...
It seems scary, but you have to realize, back in the '60s-'80s before all that "safety equipment" existed, people DID daily drive these! That's what encouraged me to do so back in the '90s, and it was so much funnnn! People think you need 4 wheel Baer Power Disc brakes for classics, however just manual drums will work, if well-tuned and maintained. Normally, the pedal goes "right to the floor" due to a leaky brake line (they rust out) or a bad wheel cylinder. When the brakes are totally overhauled/adjusted, you won't need anything else.
Thanks for having me, Matt! The whole trip was a blast.
-Armon (With the '69 Mustang convertible) :D
Thanks for providing Matt with the tools to make the best One Take evaaa!!! I'm with you man, I want my son to be just like you. I love my modern car (2001), but I wish I had gotten a different introduction to the automotive world. I feel like having a classic from the start makes you learn how to work on them - which I have no idea how to. I'll learn with time, but it'll take a lot of time considering I'm in college and don't have time lol. One day I'll get there.
You can probably blame some of Matt's distrust on me. My '74 Camaro was supposed to be on the One Take twice. The first time, I was having electrical problems and the car died 10 minutes away from the meeting spot, and I hadn't finished fixing it in time for the second chance. It is all fixed now, though, if Matt wants to try for a third time.
Nice Mustang though, man! What exhaust are you running?
+theARMONexchange Nice car my friend and I love the colour.
nice to know someone else is crazy enough to daily a 69 mustang
Used to DD a 65 Coupe [I'm on VMF btw] - it's hell of fun, but I just don't trust the other idiots on the road. A new car is easily replaceable and safer, an old Classic that's kindof like a 1 of 1. Makes me less trusting.
My dad got a 1969 Mustang Convertible 351W deluxe. I love it, we have had it for 4 years now and it is running great.
Give everybody the deets, color/opts...
Thanks Armon and Matt for sharing the car!
Beautiful car and cool to see a young owner with one of these
MOAR classic cars!!
+555 Gear The issue with old cars is... they're usually dog shit. Not a hater, i own a 71' buick riviera putting down about 500 wheel, and i'm currently building a 302 for my 62' thunderbird project. The issue with older cars is, everyone ignores the shit that makes them safe. Namely brakes. Unless it's a pro-touring build, i'd say to stay away from muscle cars in general for these.
+Skylar Garrett, I think you're partially right, but I think TST could do classic drives, but it would just have to be on something other than canyon runs... PCH instead maybe, or more scenic, less technical drives. Just a thought.
+Skylar Garrett he said classic not muscle.. so.. if anyone has a 50-60's alfa?
+pianoman3214 Giulietta Spider !!!!
Michael Cohen 105/115 series coupes? ;)
I know this is not your normal type of vehicle. But it was pretty sweet to see your review this. Thank you.
The audio in this video is fine, if I were you I would stick the this method. This car is pretty loud and I herd you guys no problem. Don't waste your time/money on external mics when you could be using it to bring us more one takes! Awesome video, Amazing car and a pretty gnarly dude. More please.
I love the little preview of the next episodes you get at the beginning.
Watching this makes me miss my '76 Ford Ranchero GT so much, daily and eventually helped me move from LA to SEA. Matt, you may not trust these old cars, but they're stone solid reliable machines.. with horrific brake pedal feel. Also, that 302 doesn't mind 3k rpms, my Ranchero was pushing about that from a 460cid big block at highway speeds... a lot of these old Fords are short stroke/fat bore designs (SBF, 335 and 385 series are rev happy compared to the rest of the old Fords), so a few RPMs doesn't really ruffle them too much.
This is a very cool Mustang, proper classic daily. Rock on!
Nice car, sounds amazing!
MINDBLOWN. I had my out-of-the-box 220 horse at 129 MPH. But you have an extra hundred horse! LOVE that its manual steering. The power steering in my ragtop was such siht!!
My dad got a 1969 Mustang Convertible 351W deluxe, stock 9" rear, automatic 4 speed, full magnaflow exhaust system, power steering. I love it, we have had it for 4 years now and it is running great. We are planning on painting it the original color. It is like a metallic green, we also need to change the top, to the original off white color. Also maybe we are going to change to a 4 barrel, and changing the rims to some american racing cobra wheels. I think it will look, sound, pull, feel and be pretty damn good when we are done with it!
San Jose huh? I drove my Mustang from Boston to L.A. in 3 1/2 days! a-cha-cha ;)
I like this guy. I love classic cars. I went to a foxbody mustang instead of a newer car and everyone questioned why I would do that in high school lol. It's nothing like a 69 but I just enjoy older cars. Beautiful car Armon.
Nothing like the sound of a carbureted V8, sounds intoxicating
Cool video. Respect your honesty. Maybe you could talk Musto into doing One Takes with classics that don't really meet the Big Muscle cut.
+Stig Msr
Oh, that's a good idea.
+Stig Msr yes!!
+Stig Msr agree
great idea !!!
Matt, I am shocked. I thought you would be more comfortable behind the wheel of something like that. If it was from the 40-50's maybe but a 69. My first ride was a 69 chevelle and i suppose if i didn't have that experience driving something with non power breaks would really scare me today. I will say when people talk about pure driving experiences these older cars offer it, everything is manual the vibrations, sounds just really fun.
thanks for doing an old school, love the show keep it up
I'm not a big fan of old Mustangs but this one is sweet! That engine bay is immaculate!
rock n roll! cool guy to keep driving the old school stuff, the newest car i've ever owned is 1990 and I have no complaints.
Great sounding car :)
Old cars that are fully original condition or impeccably restored seriously fuck with my OCD nature
Beautiful car!
The sound in the video was pretty good, and that car sounds fantastic.
Old school is fun once you learn the qwerks of that particular car. Drive a 1968 to 1974 VW Bug that has been setup for Canyon's if you can fit.
Audio was totally fine
first car ive seen that I would say the rag top looks great
Nice to see something different. And nice to see someone from the Bay Area!
It's all about Fremont union city bitch
+Joey Arthur Zooberry Excuse me?
+Joey Arthur Zooberry Don't forget Newark. We exist too lol.
supercrazyblondeguy Nobody knows about it lol
I daily my 1969 mustang convertible too!!
what's yours like? Most of them were 302, power steering, auto, and with black interior.
that thing is clean! really nice.
My first car was a '65 Mustang, 289/C4, manual drums, manual steering, it takes some getting used too. But I daily drove it for quite some time.
Great looking car man!
I really enjoy all oldschool onetakes :)
It sounds fantastic.
Nice to see you doing an older car, Matt! I think you handled it admirably. Borrowed 46 year-old car in the rain, I'd do the same. Cheers from Chicago.
You have got to be the realist guy on UA-cam! I love how you reply to comments that most popular vloggers don't. like the ones talking shit or making claims on things they know nothing about.
@TheSmokingTire the guy's face when you hit the dirt/weeds when turning around in the beginning is priceless
The classic mustangs still hold their own against the newer ones in the looks department.
+archinuk417 That's because the design team ran out of styling ideas long ago. They started putting back small touches of the 60s & 70s mustangs into their cars in the 1990's, and eventually brought back almost everything including the body shape, headlights and tail lights in more recent models. You can't improve on perfection.
+archinuk417 lol no.
Bodybuilder X No.
+archinuk417 The classics look better imo. The new retro styling just looks like its trying too hard. They messed up both the retro styling and the modern styling by trying to do both. Only the challenger was able to pull it off.
Sam Swed There's nothing retro about the new mustangs...
my mom's 69 convertible has a 351 windsor hers is black now with black top originally optioned the same as well 4 speed manual with manual drum brakes and no power steering now has an auto in it and about to get some disc brakes as well. love that car.
Makes me miss my 66! I'm a big dude and they are tiny cars, so as much as I'd love to have another with the manual, I honestly don't know how I would have operated the clutch and everything.
thats cool as hell!! love classics.
Gotta love the old cars. I have a 1970 GMC pickup. I'm 5' 8" and with the seat the whole way back my legs are bent to drive the thing.
Thank you for showing those little flybys :)
I Would be looking for that fifth gear too lol that's revving high, nice car :)
The smile on matts face while he drives this car.
Get more old cars like this on the show!
I completely understand what you mean about older cars feeling a bit sketchy. I have a 71 Chevelle, 600+HP, and I tell you that car was never intended to do anything but go in a straight line. However, I can pretty much fix everything on it with a hammer, had to use a screw driver to arc the starter to get it going once when I got stranded when the solenoid died.
What an awesome car!
Great video, Matt. I hope you'll still give muscle car owners equal time on your show despite being a newer car guy. They have devilish good looks, a classic charm and I'm sure I can speak for most of us when I say that we love to hear those engines sing. I'm sure you will since you seemed to have a smile on your face throughout the video, but I thought I should put a good word in for the Grand Torino owner who commented before me and others like him.
Also, the Top Gear US producers need to hand that show over to you and your friends like Rob from SuperSpeeders.
+unr3al Gaming I like the idea of muscle cars more than I've actually enjoyed driving any of them. My best muscle car experiences are cruising around with Musto, but while he's driving and I'm just chilling. My Fox Body is like muscle car lite. It has the sound and fury of a muscle car, but with proper handling, real brakes, and dimensions somewhat south of 'ocean liner'
TheSmokingTire Yeah I definitely get the drawbacks of the 60s-70s cars. If you think the muscle cars were bad, climb into what was considered a regular sedan or a coupe from that time period and take it for a drive. You'll find seven liter engine vehicles that somehow take three years to go from 0-60, and have the turning radius as wide as the earth itself. But it's really hard for me to dismiss something like a Chevelle SS or a Plymouth Hemi Cuda or a Corvette C2 as American junk. If nothing else, fundamentally they're at least great point and shoot drag cars or sunny day cruisers, and they gave blue collar workers of the time the opportunity to afford a cool car. I'd also like to note that I'd rather have one of those than a Ferrari Dino or a Lamborghini of the time due to the repairs being more dare I say' practical'.
All of that being said, yes, I totally agree that a Corvette C5, C6, or C7 (as an example) would be leagues better than any of those cars just based on things like air conditioning, power steering and more power to weight. A modern car would be better to own if you could only have one vehicle. No argument there. Keep the videos coming man, I love your work.
If Armon lives in San Jose, then I hope to see him on the road since I live there too. Nice vid Matt. I always enjoy the ride.
This video makes me want to ask about and restore this old mustang that's been sitting up next to building on the way to my girlfriend's house. I look at it every time I pass by there and wonder if I could ever restore it on my own. Maybe...
Awesome Vid as always
Man that sounds good!
Hats off to you. Most of the people you drive with would get super under my skin.
I would love for Matt to drive my 1974 Nova with 370 horses. It's my daily as well! It has been for 5 years
love to see some more classics on here. and yes Matt, it's in your head, lol
I think I’m the youngest, 18 years old with a 69 convertible 302 and it’s the same color as his
I am loving this..... Bravo indeed
Man how much I would love to see you do a video of a pro touring car.
21 years old and owns a beautiful 69 Mustang! This guy is a bonafied car nut and a badass in my book.
it really is what you're used to I guess, I learned to drive on a 1979 Subaru with like 3 inches of steering play, and 6 inches of shifter play, then upgraded and move a few times until the early 2000s when I had a 1977 Mercedes 250 with quite a bit of steering play, and fiddly carb etc, then I owned and drove some 1990s bullshit and a few years ago I had an opportunity to buy a 1976 Mercedes 230.6 (the older W114 body type) and I had to drive it across the country (New Zealand) from Wellington back to my home near Auckland (a 8hr drive if few breaks are taken) I had 2 younger friends with me whom I was to share the driving with... neither of them had ever driven or owned any proper older cars (pre-1980s with carbs etc) and when they jumped in they only lasted 5 minutes on the highway with 6 inches of steering play, whereas with my background of old piles, I found quite managable... so yeah it really depends on what you expect from a car, for example when I bought my first car without power steering I found it really hard, but after about a week or so of driving it, you just learn to pull really hard when you're parallel parking.
coolest car in a while
did I see an rx8??? I've been waiting the whole time for one!!
Do more classic muscle car reviews!
Cool guy, props for driving that daily
One summer I friend of mine and myself took a 1970 demon and a 1972 duster and put them together to make one car for around $2,000. Granted this was a long time ago, guessing around 1989 I think. It was super awesome to do, but after owning it for several years I swore I would never drive something that old as a daily driver again.
Matt, I can relate to the brake thing. Although mine was drum brakes and it had a terrible habit of getting air in the brake line. Believe it or not, I never wrecked it. There was a couple of close calls though.
That poor guy's face every time Matt put the Mustang on the dirt...
I wish my sisters 65 Mustang was finished, we put a 92 stang 5.0 into it since we got the car with no engine. I plan on putting EFI for my sis to get the engine dialed in and running smooth.
that is badass! I am about to buy a '69 mach 1 as a project, then I will have my dream car :)
Great car and video, you should do more classic cars!
Every 302 I ever drove screamed! And ran pretty damned good. I really don't know what you guys are talkin about.
Really nice man. The audio doesn't sound that bad.
I drove my 1976 Chevrolet Camaro daily from 2002 - 2012. Now I am able to baby it.
6:08 nice evo to
I thought I heard some detonation a couple times when Matt was getting on it. Bad gas or maybe a timing adjustment? Great car and good for you that this is your daily driver, bravo X2.
I agree with Matt about the 5 speed, just because it's his daily, he can get a 5 speed built for the abuse. personally I rock a 6 speed in my 86 camaro because I like the extra gears lol.
Cool '69 Stang!
More of these kinds of one takes
Did I spot an RX8 at 1:22?
I hope that's what's coming next! :D
It's all about perspective. When Musto reviews an old muscle car, one that's been modified slightly, he'll sometimes say: "it handles really, really nicely". I just assume that means it feels relatively safe to drive at all, which is fine. They're really all about attitude and personality.
+Alec D. That's about right.
Nice car! Does the roof leak?
love stangs!
love the color, what is it?
luv it, such a cool car.
holy shit, a real fossil! watch channels like these long enough you forget about old iron.
Love it! Sweet car
You might like my 67 Mustang if you love your fox body. I put a 5.0 from a 91 GT in it with a few go fast parts and a 5 spd. It's still very much a work in progress.
Sweet car
Coolest 21 year old I've seen in a while.
Amen to this!
Half a mio subs dude! Congrats.
would be so cool...if it had a respray haha nice video keep it up
Absolutely love these videos. There's no bullshit, and you can tell when it's your first drive of a car and something surprises you in a good way, or just plain annoys the fuck out of you.
Have you had any offers to drive a modified Merkur XR4Ti? I ask, as I'm a UK viewer who hears about 500-700bhp Merkurs in the US and Canada, but have never seen or heard one driven in anger. We have plenty of big power Sierra Cosworths here (our equivalent turbo wise I suppose, ignoring the way under powered XR4i ), but would love to hear your "Take" on one. Keep up the good work anyway.
+ANDREW NELLIGAN I have not been offered a Merkur, but i would love to do one.
What settings are your GoPros on Matt? The audio and video quality is really great. I have a hero4 black and I'm not sure what works the best.
+Ian Soderlund 1080P/60FPS with a polarizer filter and "the frame" mount.
TheSmokingTire cool thanks for the response man.
Dat Evo IX @ 6:07 doe
More muscle cars!!!
thats your daily??? respect
These videos are fucking great, also props to the owner for daily'ing this, great stuff !
Finally a classic
If you are ever in Ohio, I have an 89' Mustang fox-body convertible 5-speed i'll let you test drive. Very well kept, immaculate, 44k miles, mostly stock save a short throw shifter and rims and tires.
I'd love to own one of these old Stangs or perhaps a Chevelle SS. One thing is for sure though they wouldn't be my daily driver as I'm used to the cushy ride of my MB.
