    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Oversewing is the most basic sewing done over the seams to reinforce a closing or blind sewing . It is also considered as an ornamental sewing for a cover or other upholstery items.
    An upholstery student must learn and understand well the usefulness of this basic topstitching.
    Regularly, this stitching is done on the upper edge of a lateral panel that surrounds a main foamed panel. There are some exceptions when the oversewing is done on the main panel edge.
    I show in this sample several useful tricks which are used when the lateral panel is foamed.
    Usually the lateral panels are foamed with thin foams: 3, 4, to 5 mm thick. Headliner foamed materials are useful for this purpose.
    To ease the sewing process and get a nice oversewing the most important key is to flatten the edges that will be sewn down.. A previous sewing is done at a distance of 8 mm from the edge. The final closing/blind sewing should be done at 10 mm.
    Bulky junctions are flattened by cutting the seams on the reverse side and resewing on top back and forth many times.
    Some upholstery shops use an overlock sewing machine to flatten the edges of vinyl, leather or fabric.
    To ease the sewing process for this topstitching I have used a 138 size thread on top and a 92 size thread on the bottom. Things are much easier tho handle and the outcome is also safe and nice too.
    I hope you find this video useful!

    • @Cechaflo

      I do not thoroughly glue the leather to the foam. Just point of glue as basting all around the edges. The backing cloth can be thoroughly glue sprayed over. No problem.

      It is headliner foamed material. I use it as a backing for the lateral panels of a seat cover because it already has a cloth that is placed on the reverse side. Sometimes it is also useful for the main top panels.

    Hola pregunta k es mejor pegar la espuma al material por ir más rápido o coserla , gracias

    • @Cechaflo
      @Cechaflo  Рік тому +2

      El pegar la espuma al material sería mas rápido. Es recomendable hacerlo con pistola de aplicar pegamento. No es necesario un pegamento muy fuerte. Es importante que nuestro material esté 'planchado', porque si hay pliegues o arrugas van a quedar marcados y es un poco difícil de quitar asi le apliquemos mucho vapor o calor.
      En cuanto a la espuma el pegar la tela de respaldo quita tiempo. Hay espumas que vienen con tela de respaldo adheridas/pegadas y nos facilitan la tarea.
      Para hacer trabajos rápidos no es necesario coser alrededor del borde. Se puede hacer directo y queda bien.

    Do you need a specific machine to do the longer length lines for the topstitching?

    • @Cechaflo
      @Cechaflo  Рік тому +1

      Generally, the triple transport (walking feet) sewing machine stitches are 6 mm long.
      New models give a maximum stitch length of 10 to 12 mm long, mostly used on furniture.
      To freely give the maximum stitch length it is advisable to regulate the height of the presser feet. Otherwise, a hard or soft rubbing of presser feet with the material(vinyl, leather,etc.) can alter/diminish the stitch length.

    • @Cechaflo
      @Cechaflo  Рік тому +1

      The entire panel gluing also works out provided the material is plain with no creases.
      Some car trimmers do not recommend the entire gluing because if some wrinkles are over the material, they will be very difficult to erase and would be reflected on top. I particularly agree with this method except in some cases such as concave leather/vinyl pieces.

I first started with the basic closing sewing, secondly with the oversewing, next will be the piping, then the double stitches and the last one will be the use of binding and hems.

    How do I take a car seat size?

    • @Cechaflo
      @Cechaflo  Рік тому +3

      A tailor's tape measure would be useful to taje mesures. The first to consider is how wide is the vinyl material. Regularly, vinyls are 54 (1.5 yards approx.) inches wide and we need to buy as many yards is necessary lengthwise.
      The full car seats of a car (front and rear seats) takes approx. 8 longitudinal yards.
      The process of taking measures begins by mesuring the front part of the seat bottom and backrest faces first, forming rectangular figures, then we go to the back panels and lateral panels. The measures should be written down on a piece of paper.
      Then we should draw the figures on a bigger piece of paper trying to figure out how the pieces are ordered in a 54" inches wide vinyl material.
      Summarizing 4 yards for the front (2 individual or one big seat) and 4 for the rear seats.
      I hope this information helps.
