- A lot of people don't know the differences between the different generations of Glock handguns.
In this video, I use a glock 26 to explain the differences between the generations.
Let's start a conversation in the comments! I read every single comment!

What Gen. Glock do you carry?
Here in the UK, we can't even own/carry pepper spray without risking 7 years in prison because it is classed as a prohibited firearm... and people think _California's_ laws make no sense
Gen 3 19
Gen 3 G17 with Holosun 507c X2
Gen5 48. Decorated with some of your accoutrements, Ameriglo sights, Tyrant trigger, and Talon grips. I need to get an angled hook thingy to put it the magazine catch, which I have. Just can't put it in yet...I will put in your Tungsten rod soon. I really enjoy your products and videos :)
Gen 3 glock 23. California
I only have two Glocks (Gen 3, 17 & 21 CA limited). I just want to say that I really appreciate these videos. I've purchased slide locks and tungstan guide rods for both. Totally awesome!
Thank you for all the knowledge Lenny!
With few minor exceptions, I like a gen 3. Easy to work with, lots of mods available that aren't for 5s, Ilike the springs, just like 'em.
Gen3 for the win 👏
My gen3 19 is my all time favorite. Buttery smooth and very reliable.
Great video Lenny 👍👍
thank you for sharing this information help me alot to understand the differences
Rad you guys are in Nashville! I’ve gotta come by the shop and pick something up
G19 Gen 2. Works like a charm since 1994!
G17 pre-generation, also still works like a champ after thousands and thousands of rounds. Only drawback is the front sight is STAKED and finding a replacement night sight is going to take an act of Congress.
And gen2 isn't drop safe
I love the parts compatibility!!
Took my G19X & slapped a Gen 3 $179 Complete RMR Cut, SW4 GatorMouth Cut Dagger Upper on her!
All I had to do is swap out the backplates.
I did install an OW Precision TAC Trigger, Master Trigger Spring Kit, 3lb Black Yikes Connector, plunger & spring, Polished everything, 15lb Recoil spring & a G-Sap "gap" Adapter (not needed)
Now I have a 2.7lb very short to the wall pull & forced reset.
It literally fits & shoots like a 1911.. Snug fit & zero wiggle between the upper & lower.
I Love it & wouldn't sell it!
Now, I have my Stock Upper & a FDE, threaded barrel HE 407c x2 2moa Green Dot Upper that rocks!
Got the Holosun for $200 shipped new from Optics Planet Black Friday plus Coupon Code last year.
HS or "Standard" has a 3yr Warranty & HE or "Elite" has a 10yr warranty.
Don't worry, the California Roster law was just stuck down by a federal judge, although the 9th Circuit is dragging its heels. Bruen will prevail!
You don't know California my friend. Laws and rulings from SCOTUS mean nothing, Different animal your dealing with.
I wish
Just got my first firearm, you’re videos helped me decide on a g43x! Thanks 🫡
I have had a Gen 3 Glock 27 40cal. for several years now. Never have had a FTE/FTF issue ever. I also have a Wolf 9mm conversion barrel with Glock 26 mags and used this gun in that configuration many times. Never any issues ever with this caliber change. Uses the same recoil springs. So I have 2 wonderful guns in 2 calibers to enjoy. And what a fabulous concealed carry gun with the short mags. It don't get any better.
I carry (IWB) my Glock 29 Gen. 4 which came with 3 magazines and the different grip backstrap pieces. I installed the Wolff 21# rod/spring, which is much better
for firing the hot rounds I like. The "pinky extensions" for the magazines really improves the handling. I prefer the "finger grooves" on the grip with this version.
Gen 3, don't care too much about having a Red Dot on CCW...
Why I got the 19x. I shoot with factory sights. Anything further than 20 or 25 yards, get a rifle. Just my 2.
MUCH needed details in identifying such
that customized glock at the end is gorgeous.
Great video as always. I still need to pick up a 19 gen 5 at some point. My gen 3 is my favorite gun! It’s the most reliable gun I’ve ever owned.
Gen 3 All DAY 💯
Gen 5 19x is probably their best gun. It shoots so much better than a 17.
Carried a gen 3 G23 .40 for years. Ended up gifting it away years ago and shortly afterwards acquired a gen 5 G19. Different feel somewhat from the gen 3 but I still like it and carry it sometimes.....
Gen 3 is proven. Gen 4 spooked me with the springs initially. How many years for Gen 5 to be considered proven? All I own are Gen 3.
What happened to gen 4 springs?
My Gen 4 41 trigger spring got messed up. Gen 5 trigger setups are way better.
Gen 5 trigger is a huge improvement. Otherwise though, gen 5 tolerances are tighter… which is good but actually generally reduces reliability. However, I’ve had zero issues with numerous gen 5s and expect them to continue that way
@@Cortezuma will be fascinating if there is ever a Gen 6. Or if the rotating bolt ever comes to be.
@@rtz549 agreed. I frankly don’t think it needs to exist yet and think the gen 5 is a good as a striker fired pistol can be for affordable hard duty usage
Lenny ur the man
Gen 3 23 and Gen 5 19 MOS. Both customized for me. Both with Holosun's. Enjoy them both.
I have a Glock 27 that is referred to as the gen 2.5. It has subtle differences from the gen 3 such as a smooth front strap with finger holds instead of the knurled front strap as you show in this video.
Had that same gun... had to research what gen it was lol... some say "2.5", others simply say early gen 3... my favorite ever gun... still kicking myself for trading it off 🤣🤦♂️🤦♂️
Gen 3. I like the finger grooves and solid grip back strap. All the things people rant and rave about I didnt care for in the first place. Just another reason to sell you a new gun. Anything more I want and feel I need to I change myself. I change 5 things on every Glock I own. And I never mess with the triggers. Everyone has their own preferences though and more power to you. Until I have to forcibly change against my will I will not ever buy or be interested a different Gen of Glock. 😂
the spring system for the sear was also redesigned between the gen 3s and 5s. Gen 3 has a much simpler version with it only having one parts for the spring system, the new gen 5s have three different parts that interact with the spring to make the sear move which while does give a better trigger feel that Glock calls their " marksman trigger ", it is less reliable.
Good to know. Will be interesting to see what they do with Gen 6.
Gen 5 with the new Glock performance trigger is the way to go. I have a gen 5 17 with over 50,000 rounds through without a hiccup. I have a gen 3 in almost every model and was hesitant with the new gen 5’s but now I’m a believer.
A 17 gen 5 was my first gun, I'm pretty happy with it.
nice, my first gun was a P320. Got to shoot my friends G45 and fell in love. Now proudly alternate a G19x with the sig.@@ihateyankees3655
Am I trippin or are this guys hands big asf😂
Was just researching this a couple days ago. Buddy of mine who passed away 3 years ago let me shoot a Glock 19 and Glock 26 gen 3 before he died. I really loved how those pistols handled and wondered if the Gen 5 was a worthy upgrade.
Honestly I just stick with gen3, just preference npt enough changes to be worth an "upgrade." I like the finger grooves that gen5 removes, and I don't want to use a pos adapter plate which have always been common failure points I'd rather have a custom milled cut for my chosen specific optic and ride as low as possible. Plus a gen3 is usually when I've search a little cheaper, since I'll likely upgrade a few parts anyway why pay more?
Gen 3 are probably the best that Glock has to offer in terms of field proven reliability and aftermarket support.
@@Jordan-ql6tmgen 4 didn't remove the grooves
@@nova68cutie your right gen 5 did.
This guy kind of sounds like BoJack Horseman lol. Great video, very informative 👍🏽
Glock 19 gen 3, 19X, 43X, and the 42 when that’s all I can confidently conceal depending on what I’m wearing.
Alaska, Montana, and Wyoming had the highest estimated gun sales per capita in 2022. In 2022, gun sales rose year over year in only three places: Iowa, the District of Columbia, and Oregon. So far in 2023, Texas and Florida lead the nation in total estimated gun sales, making up about 14% of all guns sold nationwide
Per capita dude. That doesn't address which state sells the most total number of guns. And California sells less that it would because of its handgun roster law (all new guns are not legal to sell), and 30 days between purchase rule.
Lenny, is there a gen 5, 45 cal. slide (with front serrations, MOS, better recoil spring assy.) etc. that will fit a gen 3, 21sf?
What optic ready slide will fit on my glock 23???
Always a Great Day Too … See Mr Lenny Magill… With the Custom Glock Store In Great Tennesee. Fantastic To see you Sir.
Will an mos slide work on gen 3? Can I just slide gen 5 upper onto a gen 3 lower?
We miss you in San Diego !
Blame your state. He had to go to freedom loving state.
Good to know 👍
I actually have a Glock 26 GEN 5 and it’s not bad at all. I am in love with that thing up and down.
I have a 19, 43x, and just got 26 yesterday. I love it as well. My new favorite
Has Glock significantly improved the ergonomics on the Gen. 5 model?
If you print the frame you can have any ergonomics you want
Have Gen 3 and Gen 5 26 MOS and the Gen 5 grip is way better in my opinion.
I love my 19 gen 5. My father has a 17 gen 4. During SDI classes I had to detail strip and was shocked by how easy it was compared to other gens
@@rooftopkilroy not really because I got a bunch of books that can’t get removed off the internet, a shit ton of tools, and an AR from them. That’s not including the other stuff I’ve gotten.
@rooftopkilroy You can learn almost anything from watching UA-cam videos, but what you don't get is a degree or certification proving what you've learned. I had thought the same about SDI until I decided to enroll. Like anything in life, you get out of it what you put into it. You can learn lots of things, but if you can't utilize that knowledge, then it's useless. A degree also proves your dedication and willingness to progress in the firearm industry.
@@MCGUFFIN0324 exactly. I’m a young guy too and finished with a 3.88 GPA, Magna cum Laude, Dean’s list, and am part of the honor society. I’m already doing advanced courses. I know for fact that will grab anyone’s attention
@@MCGUFFIN0324 he also has a degree. In gunsmithing.
What do you have? It’s clearly not a college degree.
Never mind, actually don’t care. Don’t bother telling me.
GEN3 26…GEN3 19…GEN3 23….all really good. GEN3 fit my hand the best.
EXCELLENT video…the step by step explanations and camera work are fantastic……thank you.
I actually found a difference on the 17s the locking lug on Gen 5 will not allow to be used on Gen 3 it leaves a considerable gap on the recoil spring barrel to slide interface using a Gen 3 guide rod
Still waiting on G20 Gen5 upgraded triggers and recoil springs/guide rods....STILL WAITING!!!!
When are gen 5 Glock 27 in 9mm conversion barrel going to be available
I Love My G26 Gen 5, Mine
Is NOT The MOS Model, I
Just Wished They Would've
Put A Light Rail On The G26's
Gen 5's...
Will a Gen 5 slide fit a Gen 3 frame?
I’d love to be able to buy a gen5 mos slide only for my non mos gen5 26.
I have no use for the MOS. Does Glock make generation 5's with no top plate?
The main problem, across the board, with the 40 sw is most companies build them using the 9mm frame/design where given the nature of the 40 it should have been built on a 10mm or 45acp frame/design...that's why they literally destroy themselves over time.
Being im left handed i like the ambi slide release but im also a person who likes the finger grooves on the grip i own both a gen 3 and 5 G26 i prefer to carry my gen 3
I like the gen 5’s a lot. I didn’t care for the gen 4 enough to replace my gen 3’s
Will the MOS slide work on the gen4 26's
Can you get gen 3 slide with MOS? Glock 26?
It's really sad that there is no way to upgrade the Pre Gen5 to ambidex slide releases. I have a 34 Gen4 and it is really great except for that one detail...
I like the right slide stop lever and im right handed but thats for my p320 i have a gen 3 27
I wish all new Glocks came from the factory with MOS
Every other manufacturer does 😂
Glock wouldn’t be able to bilk you for more money then though 😂
Not me. I don't like Red Dot sights.
@marktc01 I prefer green dot but still.
Every Glock I own has been reliable. My 43x does have striker drag like my Sig 365 though neither have caused reliability at the range.
I prefer my gen 5 triggers just as I prefer my series 1 1911s.
Everyone is different but the one thing we all agree on is the ammo prices are killing the gun market.
By Design?
Well, if gen 3 is still in production then I should be able to acquire a guide rod and firing pin springs for my Glock 23
1:40 the gen4 also came with 3 magazines.
Is it possible to buy a slide with mos cut for gen 5 26 lmk
Gen 1 FTW!
Wow there are a few very nice people I would wish to meet for a day or more. You are one of them.
I love the gen4 glocks
I’ve owned and carried a Gen 2 G17 since 1992. I’ve put over 30,000 rounds through it over the decades. It’s unmodified and fully original. I’m not interested a red dot sight, but I am sorta interested in mounting a light to it. I’ve seen adapters that allows a light to be mounted where a light is mounted on the Gen 3 forward. Any recommendations on an adapter?
I bought a G19 as my first handgun right after the model launched in 1988 and a G17L shortly after that. I keep those for sentimental value, but I've bought and sold countless others in all calibers and generations since then. I recently upgraded from a G19 Gen4 to a G19 Gen5 MOS and added a Holosun SCS optic and a Streamlight TLR-8 AG laser/light combo. It shoots great, but I'm still on the hunt for the perfect holster for it.
After owning, shooting, and servicing examples of almost every Glock pistol made in a professional capacity over the past 35 years, I firmly believe the Gen5 models are the best so far. I wonder why some people are stuck on the Gen3 models. I'd pick a Gen4 or Gen5 over a Gen3 just for the improved dual recoil spring assembly, especially in any caliber hotter than 9mm. I never modify mine except for maybe sights, lightly polishing certain internal parts to smooth out the trigger pull and replacing recoil spring assemblies at the recommended intervals. I've seen too many people dick up a perfectly good Glock trying to play adult Legos with them. That might be ok as a range toy for some people, but not me.
I've yet to see any adapters I'd trust to attach a weapon-mounted light securely on a Gen2 G17. Finding a compatible holster might become an issue if there was such an animal. If I were you, I wouldn't necessarily kick the old girl to the curb, but I wouldn't hesitate to bring home one of the new and improved models to keep her company. Also, it sounds like we could be close in age, so I'll mention that I was slow to get on the pistol optic train like a lot of folks from my generation, but I eventually realized that my eyes weren't what they used to be, so I was glad I started buying the MOS models when I did so I could attach an optic to them easily once I was ready.
I own all gen’s and the Gen 3 is by far my favorite
Can I mount the adapter plate on the gen 4 26?
can you help me understand why California won't allow gen 4 & 5 in? What's so different on the 1st-2nd & 3rd gen that makes them OK?
So I didn’t hear you mention the changeable back straps for the Gen 5. One of the things I like about my Gen 4 is that I can put the larger back strap on and it fits my hand much better. Do the Gen 5’s have that ability, or did Glock step backwards by doing away with the back straps?
Gen 5 also has the same function.
My g26g5 came with backstraps as well, currently have a bigger one on it lol
@@nazgul_53 good to know. Thanks for the reply. With larger hands I need those back straps to get my pistol to fit properly. Been looking at a backup firearm of the G23 variety (will have sights changed for night sights), but didn’t want to buy one if I didn’t have the back straps to make the gun fit my hand. I appreciate your taking the time to reply. Thank you!!
@@crossbowsniper no problem mate!
What does it cost to do custom like that Gen 4. That looks great!
I live in Massachusetts and we can not purchase a Glock from a dealer post 1998 so we are stuck with Gen 2s. If Glock made a pistol with a external safety, then they could sell in Mass & Cal. Hopefully this goes away with help from the Supreme Court.
Don't bet on it.... The SCOTUS just screwed us on frame and receiver sided with ATF.
@@madcapmagician6018 great 😞
Will a pyramid gen 5 trigger fit a gen 3 glock 42?
Thank you for reinforcing firearm safety.
Actually, the Gen 5 G19 spring(steel) is different than that of the Gen 3(plastic)
I actually replaced my plastic springs several years ago with steel springs, gen 3s
I love all gen 3 glocks, gen 5 is great , but , for some reason gen 3 is my go to
Love your vids, Lenny! Glock gen 5 for me.... when will the gen 6s come out?
How he dosnt mention glock 26 gen 2.5 which i own here in lame massachusetts. Are gen 2.5 and gen 3 the same or am i getting wrong info?
Try and import the non serrated knifes.
Personally I'd get whatever was cheaper at the local gun store unless I wanted a red dot
I own a gen 5 26 and mine didn’t come with mos can I buy a new slide for mine
Can you turn a gen 3 26 into a gen 5 and is it expensive?
I had a Glock 26 that had the finger groove without texture. I was told they referred to this as a Gen 2.5.
Interesting
Your are correct!
I carry a Glock 43 X, I love it
Same!!
Doea glock store offer a MOS cut for slides with no optic cut?
We do! its specifically so you can use the Holosun SCS
Lenny looks like one of the Fooglies from spy kids.
A 2023 G43X MOS what gen would be?
My gen 5 mags for my 19 have a little larger lip at the foot plate than my gen 3 mags.
What Is The PRICE Of The
New G26 Gen 5 MOS, Does
Anyone Know ???
What gen is a 48 I have been told it is technically gen5 but not really and I haven't seen the gen engraved anywhere in my slide
Edit: I don't have an MOS
So are the slide lock/ takedown levers interchangeable?
Yes, universal through all generations.
Very first gun. Glock 27 gen1 bought 1996. Mint condition
same here
*I like the short answer; "Not Much".*
*There's probably more GLOCKs in California, than anywhere else in the World.*
*I don't even want the MOS version, and GLOCK fails miserably on improving their ergonomics, so GEN3 is still relevant.*
*Soon our infringing Handgun Roster will be going away, and we'll purchase what the rest of America enjoys.*
*Oh; "What Gen. Glock do you carry?" - A = Gen3 G20sf., and regular mags filled with Underwood Xtreme Hunter Platinum.*
Will you guys ever make or construct a 15 round mag for the 43x or 48 in the future?
already out. its the psa dagger micro mag. runs flawless.
@@ReallyOPV not my psa mags. I have issues with mine.
I bought the 15 rounds, 3 mag set by Shield Arms for my G43x. All metal, came with the metal mag release also. EZ to swap in/out..... Works great. And I'm in another anti 2A state.............Maryland 👎😯
@proven6270 what gen of the shield arms mags do you have?
There are multiple models of the Holosun MCS optical sight on their website. Which one are you referring to in this video?
The Holosun SCS specifically for Glock handguns, SKU: 20260
Using the holosun website they list 5 different SCS models. Only the MCS MOS model is listed as setup for the full size (standard width slides) Glocks without an adapter plate. Other Holosuns like the RMSc fit the thin Glocks like the 43X. Seems to me that Glock is missing a common sense detail by not setting at least the standard width slides in a "standard" or "production style" like either the Jpoint or other common footprint to allow a wider selection of optics without a plate which is another failure point.
I have 3 gen 4’s and one gen 5
Is Crimson Trace or anybody else ever gonna release a laser grip for the 26 Gen 5?..
GLOCK 23 GEN 5 OLIVE GREEN SLIDE
GLOCK Just Came Out

Was there ever a problem with the gen3 safety plunger? Why change a part that has no problems?
That's kinda the reason people like gen 3. After that, Glock went a little backwards. Gen 3 is like the best of all the generations including 5
@@ballsack8937indeed
G19 gen 3, is the goldielocks of all glocks💪🏽💪🏽💪🏽
I only received 2 mags with my Gen 5
Gen 3 has finger grooves. Update::: I shot both and it did not make a difference to me . Liked them !
Why don't they make a Glock performance trigger for every caliber selection?
