That fulani braids wig is criminal.😭😭 like omg take that back to the beauty supply immediately.
Okay as a wig wearer myself... i cant hate on Glamour too much for using braided wigs.
Hello, lest we forget that those braided styles take like 8-12 hours or more to do. They still got the message across. After wearing braids , box braids cornrows , you name all through the 80s and 90s and early 2000s , yes i would grab an Outre braided wig and keep it moving in a heartbeat , lol
This video should have sheen titled 100 years of braids in America or western culture. Because we Africans had our own style. Even after colonization we kept our ancestors styles.
Totally agree with you
the historic references regarding the origin of braids being all white women is ridiculous
🤔In this video you can see our African styles not only western culture! So your statement, is weird. 😮
Not related to this video specifically but I wish they stayed with 1920-2010, it feels like removing the 1920s makes the video miss a lot of innovation in fashion history. It doesn’t need to be specifically the past 100 years imo
Well it's 90s years technically. But the series kind of fell off anyway when cut gave up.
I keep getting secondhand embarrassment for the models wearing these braided wigs. Yikes. Glamour, do better.
Right 😭🙏
Exactly like I was trying not to laugh 😭
All that time, I thought the braids were real. I honestly did
If you want them to do better so much, then why did you watch them?
me too
Finally😌 they did 2020s and it's accurate lol💀 but those braided wigs are so goofy tho😭😭
Did ya’ll even try to find women with braided hairstyles instead of those bad wigs??
I know right..., it just looked sad to watch
Glamour: braids were born on African culture thousands of years ago.
Also Glamour: no black model till the 60s.
Do better!
Appropriation that rivals the Kardashians!
fr like😂
Did you not understand the second half of that caption? It said the origin can be traced back to 3500 bc IN African culture but braiding STYLES have changed over the years to reflect the times. It didn't say it was born in Africa. So, they're saying the furthest back they were able to find braids was in 3500 BC Africa. That doesn't mean braids were born there. And surely not all braids were to say the least.
They didn't say it but, the truth is it was born in Africa. I don't know why they didn't lay emphasis on that. But that's the truth
I was thinking the same thing...Like Black women never stopped wearing braids.
@@jewelfox143 Our hair is suited for braids...other hair is not...its really a no brainer
can we get one for black women, please? African diasporas have been braiding their hair, cornrowing for centuries. You may have wrote it but I wanted to see it
Glamor should hire a more diverse editorial board
Glad I didn’t have to search for this spot on comment!!
Exactly
Correct! I was annoyed watching this video.
100%
Make it way more Black if you gon center Black fashion.
Wouldn’t this only be 90 years of braids? We JUST entered the 2020’s
1920’s is missing 🧐
@@SpongeB00b_is_a_savage And they could have shown some of the iconic Natacha Rambova hairstyles...
More people of color are needed in the planning stages before cultural videos are created.
The braided wigs just don't look right I mean I know how long it takes to those hairstyles but come on at least make the wig look realistic 😬
Right! It feels wrong 😅
I can’t with the wigs😭
Why are there so many braided wigs?? On a video about braids they couldn't actually do the braids?
It doesn’t make sense to have a model spend 6+ hours in a salon chair for only 2 mins of screen time
But at least she would have her hair done
the wigs .. 😭
Braids have been part of every culture around the world since centuries 😊 Amazing to see that we still braid our hair today
I love all braids of every decade 😍😍. But my fave is the half up, half down. The top is braided and the bottom is down. I used to wear it like that in middle/ high school and was proud of it 😊
That wig for the 80s braids looks like it was purchased for $10 at Party City. Yikes.
Glad they mentioned Brandy, because I was about to say…. 😂😂😂😂😂😂
That's my cousin (the black stylist)!
Kimberly Reid
Another blast of a shoot with Glamour!! Thank you guys for a fantastic time ❤ that Blake Lively braid is still my fav hairstyle I’ve ever worn 😍
Nice job!
This video is so wrong.
why?
In so many ways
They really missed those ridiculously puffy french braids which were all over the place in 2017....
I really ❤ the 1930 to 1950,and 2010 (fishtail) braid style ... 😍
I literally had that 50's hairstyle at my brother's wedding in 2020......the dress I wore was kind of a 50s style, so I figured why not do the same with my hair ^_^
omg... why did they put that hideous braided wig on her to represent the 1980's? I'm baffled... 😳
I'm reporting this 😒
Why? Is that a joke or something?
1990s baby!!! 🙌🏻😎🌟💯💖
I remember the girls in high school sporting a lot of french braids back in the 90s too 🤔
Right? How did they forget the French braid???
Y’all forgot Knotless braids
The last video looked like knotless to me
The fact that the Katniss Braid wasn't in here... or maybe that was just my high-school.
the braided wigs 😬
100 years of braids in America. Not anywhere else.
The feeble attempt to show braids while not even bothering on more than three occasions to show actual braided styles without using wigs. You had such a chance to show real "Glamour" and took the easy way out like people wouldn't notice.
Why was the white hairdresser only doing the white girls hair and the black hairdresser only doing the black girls 💀
Honestly if a white person did a black persons hair Americans would be in uproar about how it's appropriation and racist
@@summaz_ really?
I prefer a white hairdresser actually, they're gentle
@@summaz_ no because they don't know how to do black hair
Where is 1920s?
well if u count....
Crown of braids!
4:38 this wig (and the application of it) hurt my feelings 🥺
Thank you, Janet Jackson!
There's photos of my aunt wearing braids wrapped around her head starting in the 40s.
That last shot was full of DANDRUFF!?! who QC’d this style and video???😿
I think it's the dried gel
I’m sorry but be fr. I find it irritating that almost every black model on here was wearing a wig, while their white counterparts had their hair braided for real. I get it, braids take a long time but it would’ve made it much more enjoyable to see the effort that all us black ladies actually put into doing our hair basically everyday. Rlly disappointed in this video, especially when woc are the ones who wear braids most often.
>while their white counterparts had their hair braided for real
The first one was also a wig. The braided hair isn't the same shade of blonde as the model, also you can see the stylist holding it in her hand when she walks up and places it on the models head.
*side eye*
I like this Glamour video but especially the micro braids like brandy wore in the 1990's
The 80's-💀
the wigs took me out😭
Braids are not unique to women. Occasionally I've seen pics of men who have braided beards. Someone also wrote instructions on how to make a nativity scene out of cloth, and they suggested that for Joseph and the shepherds, you could add a braid of embroidery floss if you want them to have beards.
3:30 what's presence was limited to mostly black publications?? hippie braids? must be cuz thats the last thing they said before that^ at.even tho hippie braids were for 60's but the one im talking about is 70's hmm weird. Which I know thats a lie because there was hippies of every color. And that didnt even look like hippie braids @ 3:57 with the seashell, she looks more like an African princess. oh so its a cornrow look, you might want to fix that...
What are u talking about?
2000s:high ponytail+braids=Tsuji Nozomi
In the 1980s this woman look like at the Cleopatra's hairstyle, I'm not the only one who thought so??
No you ain't
Hair looks cute!
The 1970s caught me off guard 😂😂😂
Well the cornrows at the end were cute.
8:33 - JAIL STRIGHT TO THE HOLE for you glamour.
I am nigerian and i’m used to box braids
👏👍
(5:51) she knows she slay in that look
THRID 🙏🏼
I love the show moesha🤍
1940s braids were very popular in ukraine
i'm earlyy
The wigs are giving Tyler Perry. Do better.
Tyler Perry movies- ☠️☠️☠️
Theyre dead wrong with the braided wigs smh all if these black women out here with actual braids and they couldnt find not one ?? Smh
As I watch this on the end of crown day 2023, I still feel exactly the same. Underrepresented. There was just not enough info and I wish they would have have talked about how braid patterns helped runaway slaves with their escape routes. Put more value and info into the culture you are talking about instead of click bait. I won't even talk about wigs and lack of diversity, just who approved this vid?
(4:46) why a fake wiggg 😭😭😭
Euroamericans comunity banned afro braid afro comunity in the past that was stupid
In the 60s and 70s her edges were dying to breathe
Just the fact the they didn't even try to make the wigs look natural.
Idk why the 1980 wig look fake to me
I was about to pop off until they said braids go back to west Africa lol.
1940s braids were very popular in ukraine. 100 years of braids in America. Not anywhere else..
4:56 - JAIL!!! @glamour yall dirty denna mf
They couldn’t do the cornrows and beads 😂
Edges didn't look that good in 1980
THANK YOU INTHIUGHT INWAS THE ONLY ONE WHO NOTICED.
Not a fan
I know this is all about the hair, but for the love of God, PLEASE! do better about the makeup Glamour.
These wigs are absolutely terrible! 😂 such a cop out.
And no. Not this last girl with caked up gel in her braids. Or dandruff one.... smh these ppl will put anything on display.
So Africans started wearing braids in the 70s right??? Pls 🙄
The first one looking so fake😭💀
1940 is tramatizing
1980s, horrible polyester lace beauty supply store wig
The braided wigs look terrible… why not get people with the actual braids.
