      yea, it's tru...it's still a thing in places where superstitions rule. MANY people are highly S upersticious...and in villages or even modern towns or cities in certain regions where people think that way, it's still a very real concept(not just, "oh , don't look at ugly people" , but all kinds of things ranging from don't allow yourself to hear certain types of music-like leave if it's playing; All the way to, "don't think about unclean thoughts" for more than a few mins a day, if at all). You'd probly be surprised the things people tell to and make preggos actually do and/or say....lol.

      My grandmother told me that when her grandmother was younger, when a lady was visibly pregnant she didn't go to church and it was said that "she got down" simply being stuffy church biddy code for "she was about to give birth, but anything suggesting private parts is vulgar so we say weird crap instead."

    • @VasilikiTzalachanihappy
      @VasilikiTzalachanihappy 5 років тому +254

      Believe it is true! My mum was pregnant with me during the middle of 1999 and everyone from my dad's village told her to hide her pregnancy because telling everyone will cause her to suffer miscarriage. I was born dead and brought back to life and my grand-aunt never let my mum forget it. Then her daughter, my aunt and godmother hid her pregnancy as she was told and she suffered a painful miscarriage and she couldn't ask for help because she feared that if whatever she was feeling wasn't already a miscarriage she would jinx it. My cousin Dimitris-Antonis was born without anyone telling us about it one day we got it the mail an invite to my cousin's baptism. She did the same thing with her first son, George-Stilianos too! Although I saw her during the beginning of her pregnancy and suspected it and I was right, I was the one who told my parents and we managed to save up money to be able to buy him a present and have money for the trip otherwise we would have been broke by the time his baptism would have come around.
      My mum was pregnant with my sister in 2004 and because she had already lost my brother as a stillborn she tried the whole "don't tell no one" technique yet by the time she was 5 months she stopped feeling ridiculous denying it since there was a belly and i was talking to the belly plus I wouldn't shut up about me becoming a big sister to anyone who had ears! 😂😂😂😂
      So, believe that superstitions still have a strong hold in some parts of the world...Oh! FYI I'm Greek.

    • @daisyjane8588
      @daisyjane8588 5 років тому +156

      Yes. Medically speaking and maternally... breastfeeding is ideal. But.... there are many reasons why many women cant or wont breastfeed and that is perfectly fine as well. I mean my mother gave birth to me at the age of 42. In her own words "my ducts were dust baby girl. It just wasnt gonna happen" So I was a formula baby. And I not only turned out just fine health wise, I am a highly intelligent and independent, happy woman who plans to formula feed her children as well due to my inverted nipples.

    • @LHayes-zu9cm
      @LHayes-zu9cm 5 років тому +116

      And now new moms are bullied into continuing to try no matter how poorly it works. Even if your kid can't latch right, regardless of getting all sorts of help from professional lactation consultants, and loses a ton of weight. Even if you're blistering and bruising and bleeding. Even if your kids' spit up is dark pink from ingesting so much blood. Even if the pain of it makes you break out in a cold sweat every time your kid acts hungry, and you cry from the pain as you try to feed/pump. Nope, breast is best, therefore if you don't, you're basically abusing your child. Sorry, future kids, unless things radically change with my body, you're getting formula. I was a formula baby, and I'm perfectly healthy. (No shame or hate for those for whom it worked, I'm happy for you, but the nutritional difference between breastmilk and formula is not worth the fear and excruciating pain 10-12 times a day. Moms have needs, too. We still matter.)

      The main reason people hid their pregnancies for so long was because miscarriages and stillbirths were so common, not really because people were ashamed of babies or a mom's body. Before recent times we really didn't know the cause of many miscarriages because we didn't have technology to figure that out. Even now many women wait until they're 13+ weeks along before saying anything because miscarriages before then are just so common.

It isn’t exactly the same analogy, being able to hold your newborn child awakens something in you, it isn’t just holding it, that’s over simplifying, and for most people it’s true. It doesn’t matter if the fear doesn’t go away, trying to help it a bit is still better than feeding into it. So maybe if it does happen, when they go through it they may not be as afraid. Felicia Exactly! Families need to stop pressuring people to have grandkids tbh.
      Income hasn't risen to meet cost of living in decades. Parental leave is near-nonexistent, daycare is prohibitively expensive, education is under-funded, and healthcare is so costly it's life-ruining debt. College is, too. AND access to birth control is under attack as well, to be able to make your own decisions about when/whether you have another kid. Above all, rhe political climate feels like there might not be anything to raise a kid in.
      Unless they're bankrolling it, they better get used to fur-grandchildren and showing off their great-grand-dachshunds 😂

      Incorrect. Beauty is something someone finds to be beautiful, ie charming, alluring, inductive of happiness.

    The "old wives" tale was accurate for all four of my pregnancies. I had heartburn sometimes for 18 hours a day for 6-8 months straight and all four of my children were born with thick black hair. Although, I did find that whole milk did help with the heartburn quite a bit.

      My parents hid their pregnancy from me. I didn’t get to be excited for the arrival of my younger brother, or think of names for him, or imagine what he looked like. Neither did by siblings.
      All I got was an embarrassed call from the hospital from my parents, saying, “oh yeah, we had a baby”.
      I HATED that experience. For anyone reading this, don’t hide your pregnancy, or your partners pregnancy. It’s a beautiful, beautiful time, and it deserves to be shared.

      So you'd rather guess you're pregnant when you start feeling the baby move? Although weird, I think it was very useful for its time - otherwise it wouldn't be mentioned in physiology class. And the urine is injected inside a male frog's cloaca. If it starts releasing semen, not eggs, it means you're pregnant.

      Annika Heydl it’s not strong? Im with you in saying I don’t think her walking in labor is “progressive” (although being pregnant and wearing lingerie totally is.) But really that doesn’t show she’s strong ?? And I would also like to ask if you know how many women go into labor and don’t go to the hospital for hours or are actually instructed not to go until a certain point by DOCTORS. Not to mention those of which don’t even realize they’ve gone into labor yet. Are they careless too? There’s also the rarer case where the mom never knew she was even pregnant until suddenly giving birth! I literally know someone this happened to! But you’re right, soo careless to do her job!
