In 2016 I had this feeling that I needed to go to a plant walk and wound care class in Salt Lake City that Doc Jones hosted. I'm in the Phoenix area of Arizona. I'm a massage therapist. to go I borrowed $200 from one of my clients, took my Honda goldwing motorcycle in to repair the leak in my front tire. They told me that both tired needed to be replaced and that I would need to check in Salt Lake City to see if they needed replacing before I rode home. I had no finance for that. I said my prayers, contacted my goldwing group found someone to stay with while I was in Salt Lake City that lived in Sandy. I went to the class, I was late getting there because of an event where people were walking that I had to figure out how to go around since they had the streets blocked off. But got there while they were in the medicinal plants area, I was glad not to have to walk any more since my arthritic knees were very painful. We went to the hotel where he had set up the workshop for learning wound care. and I was pleased to find my paramedic background mad made it easier for the anatomy and physiology part. I was delighted to learn about salves, lotions and tinctures. He handed out supplies to have us practice suturing on grapefruit and came around and helped us with our stitches. I was very grateful. On the way home, I did not check my tires on my motorcycle since I had no funds to replace them. But praise the Lord I got a call from a new friend who asked me to come home through Flagstaff instead of Los Vegas and he would buy me a set of tires. So that is what I did. I turn 70 next month, I joined his herbalism school in 2016 after being denied doing the herbalism school at SWIHA in Tempe AZ probably because of my arthritis since I couldn't do the walks in the desert, but have been very glad I was denied there and joined Doc Jones school of Herbalism. So much to learn and he has such a great background and you even learn information on treating your pets. total Win Win situation. Join his school you won't regret it. And you can be a hero to your family treating situations before they become critical. And there are so many answers for problems you are not aware of that can be helped, you do not have to suffer in silence. Go for it!!
Yes
Yay
I just did
Anyone else ironically watching this at night instead of going to sleep?
My videos are very sedating. LOL

Not herb-related, but intermittent fasting has been helping me sleep soooo much better. It's giving my digestive system time to slow down and rest, which allows my brain to rest, too.
I think that's a really important concept. If you think about human biology. We are eating too much food and food that is too high in fats and simple carbs and too highly processed. It's a really good idea to let the digestive system clean itself out occasionally.

Same here!!!!
This also has to do with the fact that your organs are not putting in excessive work to digest what you had during the day
I am exhausted at 9 PM, fall asleep within minutes... my issue is waking up early (anywhere between 2-4 AM) and being able to go back to sleep.
Try adding Hops. It helps me stay asleep.
@@jhdinehart8305 Yup. Hops can often help. As do the herbs in the Rest Easy formula.
Doc Jones is an excellent teacher. I've been in his herbalist school since 2016 and he has more than twice the content now than he did then ..... and no extra cost. I feel bery blessed to learn from his school of botanical medicine.
Thanks for the encouragement ... that is the hope and plan in the bery (😁) near future (penciled in for Aug. or Sept.) I simply refuse to generate ANY debt!! Takes longer of course, but it also solidify's my commitment to what ever priority I'm embarking on. I am thrilled to know it is a "at your own pace" type of course! Do you think I could do everything from my phone ... not tech savvy! Hope to bump into you over there 🥳
The school website works on smartphones quite well.

I intend to go next year and I'm very excited for it. Figure if I memorize all his youtube content in the mean time that'll give me a boost! I was thinking of only taking his online course but I realized recently that hes only 3 hours away from me! Oh man I'm so excited!
Ditch the screens and read a book an hour before sleep. Something about the linear eye exercise and our brain's ability to, continue to learn or process what you've read the previous hour before drifting off. It helps me immensley in organizing my waking hours. My beginning observation of this was with scripture, but when I dove in to survival and homesteading (always a prepper living in Fla.) I found that this practice was extremely benificial as well. Reading politics DOES NOT work for me though.
Yeah, I think any topic that is potentially inflammatory or controversial is a great way not to sleep. Reading is a good idea and your lateral eye movement point is good too. Vertical eye movement triggers stress hormones...another good reason to stop scrolling the social media apps our a phone.

Fun fact testosterone peaks durring your first REM cycle in sleep. I've been taking fenugreek (support testosterone production) right before I go to sleep and the dreams have become so vivid and I've been waking up and hour early with no fatigue.
Pine pollen really helps testosterone too.

Thanks for the info. Stacy from Off-grid the Doug and Stacy say 3-2-1 3 hours before bed do not eat, 2 hours before bed sit back and relax, and 1 hour before bed no electronics.
That's a great formula. :0)

@@HomeGrownHerbalist I really am. I will ignore most things to listen and generally watch your videos a few times to be sure I am understanding and remembering what I heard. Thanks to you... I was able to help my son who blasted himself (accidently) with a hatchet in the face. I told my daughter to go in the forest and grab plantain. She came back with plantago lanceolata and I chewed it up and applied it to his head wound. Bleeding had been stopped from hard pressure of my hand but the plant seemed to keep it from bleeding again as he went off to go play. Applied it again and again throughout a couple of days. He is healing great now. I know and my children know what plant to grab in these instances. (I would have had her grab horsetail to use as a styptic but I felt that was too far to send her and my hand pressure did the trick.)
I keep thinking about studying using your school. Hoping to afford that soon.
I love the fact that you understand the use of herbs with animals and people!
I'm pretty sure he has a payment plan you can use to start in his school. Not only is he an excellent teacher but he lives the life. I've been to his place in Idaho and seen all the herbs he has around his place and the drying shed and the room with all the quart bottles of dried herbs. Not only is he an excellent teacher that lives the life he also has a great sense of humor and intuition on using plants to help in all kinds of situatuions. And with his back ground in veterinary practice he can help in unusual situations that most have not been exposed to. GO FOR IT!!! You won't be sorry.
There's a payment plan option on the checkout page. :0)

Okee Doke. I'll get one done. Thanks for the feedback. :0)

Please create a curriculum for homeschoolers. 🙏
The HomeGrown Herbalist school is a great program used by lots of homeschoolers for teaching science, medicine, botany and biology to their kids. It covers anatomy and physiology of all body systems as well as disease processes and interventions. The material is presented in a way as to be in depth and useful while still very accessible and comprehensible to anyone that can read at a high school level.

I love you Doc. Your humor and knowledge is just amazing. I'm moving my mom in with me this summer and I'm hoping to get her off of Zquil. She takes a 1/2 dose before bed and then another when she wakes up in the night.
This is a great video!
I love the video as usual. Thanks Doc!!

Interesting about Valerian Root. Inu a Ed to be able to take it and it helped me sleep great for about 3 months. Then I started eaking up about 3 or 4 in the morning jittery and unable to sleep. Why?! It helped me so much before. 😥 I am not add but my brain is constantly going.
That happened to me, too. I can never take Valerian again.
Thanks Doc 🌱 it's so good to see you! I really appreciate the information and wisdom you have imparted to us. We recently purchased the capsule-it Carolyn mentioned on Homesteading Family (which is where we met you🎉) and right away made 200 size 00 caps of moringa taking two in the a.m. and two in the evening. Going into it we decided to follow this practice for ten days and will reacess when we get there, but the impact has been very pronounced. I do wonder about taking it like twice a day 6 hours apart rather than 12 hours apart or maybe 4 caps just in the morning. Thanks for all that you do and your family too!! 🩷
I've been meaning to play with Moringa a bit. I keep forgetting to.

Join Doc Jones in his herbalism school. There is so much wonderful things to learn and there is NO date that you have to be done with anything so you learn at your own pace, and you can target the areas that you need for your family as there are modules of learning and you can skip around to what you need. I've been in the program since 2016, still not finished learning at my own pace. I really recommend it, and I'm pretty sure he has payment plans. You will not regret it.
Love your videos , thankyou.
What sort of things could help someone with insomnia that is made worse by when they do actually get abit of sleep they have severe nightmares making getting to sleep worse?
I have been watching your videos and you are very knowledgeable. I hope you can help me. My husband keeps getting the purple patches on his arms from just the slightest bump.
He is 69 years old. Do you have any advise about any herb that could help him not get so many of these purple patches? Thank you.
That's write I been using this valerian root for the pass 10 years every night.
I have several tea blends for bed time routine but listen to this, one of them is Damiana, Hubiscus, Passion Flower and Lavender, this tea keeps me awake, I thought it was the Damiana but its not bc I had it in another blend, could it be the Hibiscus?
To scared to take sleep aids
I stop breathing enough during the day and way to often at night (average 2x a minute) afraid of what would happen if I was even deeper asleep
What I really need is something to help me with the sugar cravings
Any thoughts on German chamomile being more indicated for digestion / sleep and Roman chamomile being more indicates for skin / antibacterial ?
Would you please do a video on severe chronic fatigue? Not sure exactly what is causing my issues but I'd like to defeat them.
Perhaps Adrenal fatigue?
There are so many things that could be causing that problem. Vit B absorbing issues, too much radiation exposure, issues with gluten, foods too low in vitamins and minerals, stress, ect... You are going to have to take a deep look at your life and surroundings to start pinpointing what is causing your severe fatigue but once you pinpoint it.. that will make it much easier to find solutions. God bless you with strength and I pray you find what is bringing you down.
Chronic fatigue is a broad subject with lots of variables. There are some things that can often help though. We talk a lot about autoimmune issues like that in the school.

@@humanbeing4368 not 100% sure but likely part of it.
@@AHomeIsHaven thanks for the reply. I'm sure it's a combination of things. I definitely have issues with carbs of all sorts. Feel like crap and completely drained after a heavy carb load. Was going through feelings of fight or flight a lot for years but that's finally calming down. What's strange is that I've been a home practicing herbalist and have eaten exclusively organic and avoided as many chemicals in my environment as possible for 14 or so years. Completely revamped my life. Much has improved tremendously however this looming lack of drive and energy has been thus far unbeatable. Trying my best.
Are these taken as teas or tinctures? If tincture is it by dropper or in water.
I had hphlori i believe i got or a uti
My biggest problem-and I've tried tons of things-isn't necessarily falling asleep, but staying asleep.. 12-3 or 4 in waking up and don't do restful sleep much after then. Nothing regular anyway.
That's what happens to me when I eat sugar
@@morningstarhomestead wish it was that easy for me. I've been ketovore 6+ years and eat little to no carbs. Had this issue before that, though.
I take Hops to help me stay asleep.
A lot of the interventions discussed, help with that too. :0)

Hi Doc Jones!! I read that skullcap is not good for the liver. Is this true or skullduggery? Thank you.
Used properly at appropriate doses, I have no worries about skullcap.

looking for herbs that will help with epilepsy.
My sister has seizures and she is on medicine and we're wondering if there was anything all natural some kind of herb she could take instead of her Pharmaceutical?
Doc, my 14 month grandson will not sleep thru the night. Could we give him the formula for someone?
I wouldn't use these formulas in one that young.

I can fall asleep, but have trouble staying asleep. Can any of these plants help with this problem as well?
I had that problem too, I would sleep for 3 hours and wake up. I tried valerian and other herbs and nothing helped. What helped me is eating food rich in tryptophan or taking supplements along with calcium supplement.
The things in this video may be helpful and certainly wouldn't hurt.
