Thought I was going to need to replace magnetron. Ran across this video. Time and money saver. Less than 5 minute fix including getting tools out, putting them away, heating bowl of water to make sure microwave was working, and putting up this response. Thanks so much!
Also worked like a charm for my old GE monogram spacemaker with the same symptom. Disassembly was different, mine required pulling the microwave off the wall and removal of the outer casing. With the casing removed I found the equivalent-looking relay, removed the thing on top, whacked it a few times with a wooden spoon, plugged it back in to check and voila. Thanks for making this. I inherited mine built-in which is a pain and expensive to replace
The "buzzing" is the microwave generator continuing to operate while the door is closed. I found a video that recommended replacing all 3 door switches, so I went ahead & did that- it was only about $12.00. But it didn't fix the issue. This worked. Literally tapped on that relay a few times with a screw driver. Thank you Jake !!
THANKSSSS A LOT. i used this video to get my microwave fixed. Nov 2013 year of manufacture. SMH1816S model. Truly thankful to you.! My Best wishes to you, SPECIAL THANKS FROM ALL the others who had commented earlier as well :-)
Thanks so much. I was about to go and buy a new microwave. I decided to look on UA-cam, your video came up. I did as you instructed, worked the first time. Thanks
About 2 hours ago, with the same microwave unit, I heard this buzzing noise when I closed the door. I had just told my wife about the problem and we both was like, we don't need any other repairs at this time. So, I searched for with the exact description of my problem and boom! Your video was the first one to come up and boy, am I glad I did. I thought I was going to have to buy another microwave but tapping on that relay worked as I saw it pop up. I checked it and there's no more problem. Thanks again for this video so much!
My Samsung microwave is only a couple years old. Both fuses blew a few nights ago, and after I replaced them and plugged it back in the microwave started buzzing. This video literally just saved what’s left of my sanity. Thank you for posting this!
I love UA-cam! I had found responses to “humming microwave with door closed” saying it may be magnetron. I came across this video, which is a better first pass troubleshooting check. All I had was a utility pliers/knife handy (with Philips blade). Took the panel off, tapped the relay, IT WORKS!!. Easy fix to what sounded like an expensive problem. Thank you so much for posting this!!
So glad I stumbled upon this video!! I had another model of Samsung microwave that was making a buzzing noise when door was closed and not running. Followed the instructions in this video (my microwave had a blue and a white plug). Unplugged just the blue and tapped all around on it, plugged it back in and it was still making the noise. Then tried unplugging blue and white and tapping on both. Plugged it back in and problem was fixed!! So glad I am not shopping for a new microwave today - mine is only 2 yrs old.
Thank you! This fixed the exact same problem we encountered this morning on our 4 year old samsung microwave. At the very least it gives us more time before having to replace the entire unit. And you can't beat 'free' as a price.
I just want to thank you for the fix! I have the same model and started doing this yesterday. Saw your clip and it took 2 attempts and the relay got released. Thanks!
Thanks for the tip! I have a GE microwave that buzzed then tripped the breaker, it looks like it has the same guts as your Samsung and this fixed the buzzing noise. You saved me a lot of time.
I had the same issue with my GE 1.6 cubic foot Over the range microwave oven model# JVM3160RF2SS I watched your video and tried the same fix and it worked like a charm. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks. That worked. I have a slightly different model with the buttons along the bottom, and the handle on the far right. Remove two screws hold on the top. Side it right. Remove one screw on a metal ground bar. Slide the black panel up and off.
Congratulations ! 🎉 Was hearing a hum and unplugged power from ge Unit made April 2017. GE door has a push button in the lower right side however, I like this video better. Simply pull open the door. Oh GE Hum has gone away on its own. This interesting video makes me want a Samsung in the future.
Many thanks for this video! I ran into this problem while in the midst of addressing a fully separate problem, which I was able to fix by replacing one of the door switches (switch was stuck closed and was tripping my circuit breaker... also a UA-cam video fix!). Once I replaced the switch and stopped the problem of the circuit breaker tripping, the magnetron was coming on the moment I closed the door, which it was not doing prior to the door switch being stuck. I watched your video and thought I'd give the tap-thing a try. I have a GE microwave, so there is a minor difference between the relay on your board and mine. But the overall design appears to be extremely similar. I have to say, I tried what we will say is "tapping" on the relay, several times, with no luck. I was finally at that "last straw" point, and rather than say I "tapped" the relay (with the tip of the screwdriver), I turned the screwdriver around and it was more like a "THWOCK!" with the handle... Not super-hard but definitely not light "taps". Voila. It released the relay and it is now working. It has been a few days since that was done, and it has worked flawlessly since. I'll still keep a watch in case the relay sticks again. Many thanks, again, for your video!
Thank you, I have a GE but I disconnected something similar with 3 wires. Tapped with the tip of screwdriver 3 times twice and wouldn’t work. Flipped the screwdriver and used the handle and 3 stronger whacks later and it fixed the issue 😅
Awesome, thank you it worked on my GE the board looks exactly the same. I was about to buy another one $400 microwave from Lowe’s. I’ve only had this one three years. 😒
Super helpful! I had the same problem with a GE Model JES1651SR1SS. Wouldn't shut off, just kept cooking. My model was a countertop, so all I had to do was remove the screws to take the cover off and I could access the circuit board from the side. Identified the relay, gave it a few taps, and problem solved. The oven is 10 years old so it may be need to be replaced someday soon. But it is not this day! There's another video on UA-cam saying this shutoff problem is due to a busted magnetron. I wonder though if that guy also had a stuck relay which in turn led to the magnetron overheating and breaking. Just a thought.
This worked for my Kenmore microwave as well! I took the panel off, checked and cleaned all 3 switches, banged on the relay, put it back together and it works perfectly! All in the course of 1 baby nap time- and without having to hire an expensive repairman!
Worked for sharp carousel model r551zs except there are two relays, big and smaller; I tapped on the big one, nothing happened. When I tapped on the smaller, I heard a click and the issue is fixed ;) Thanks for sharing this video.
Very Good video. It worked for my 11 year old samsung microwave, I will replace the relay if it happens again. I will have to check WHETHER the part number dydf-d12v-p1 is the same on mine. My model is smh9151ste
I'd like to buy one of ya'll a drink or something. Was ready to go get new uW thinking ''oh, magnetron is dead". Two min to remove covers, dowel and hammer to whack the relay,... bingo!! Will add that I missed the part about getting covers off - top cover after screw removal, slides toward side ;-)
Did you watch the video? Unplug the connector, tap relay. As stated in the video, I performed the fix before filming the video not knowing if it would work or not. I filmed the video to demonstrate a cheap simple fix in hopes that it could help someone else. Based on the above comments, several others have successfully got their microwaves back up and running by viewing my video and reviewing these comments.

dude, thank you so much for taking time and sharing the fix. How can I buy you a beer? You saved me at least $500 and tons of headache.

I was walking out the door to but a new microwave and tried this as a last ditch effort and it worked. Bless you.

For a second I thought I might have to call my home warranty company but finding this saved me a bunch of time and effort. Thank you!!
Thank you. I was ready to pull the trigger on a new motherboard when I saw this video. Thank you again for saving me money.
This video saved us replacing our microwave! And it was completely fixed and back in order in 10 minutes! Thank you so much!

Thank you , you made my day, easy fix tap on the relay. Yup fixed it once before and also years ago a thermister was bad. Kudos to you
I haven't replaced the relay yet but tapping on it did temporarily fix the problem. THANK YOU!
Thank you! This fixed the exact same problem we encountered this morning on our 4 year old samsung microwave. At the very least it gives us more time before having to replace the entire unit. And you can't beat 'free' as a price.
Worked for me on a two year old samsung microwave I was worried I would have to replace 2 thumbs up and thanks for sharing!!!
I just want to thank you for the fix! I have the same model and started doing this yesterday. Saw your clip and it took 2 attempts and the relay got released.
Thanks!
I’m curious how hard you had to tap? I’ve been tapping pretty good with my screwdriver and still nothing
Works perfectly. Thanks for taking the time to upload the video.
Thanks for the tip! I have a GE microwave that buzzed then tripped the breaker, it looks like it has the same guts as your Samsung and this fixed the buzzing noise. You saved me a lot of time.
Same fix worked for a GE Profile JVM1790sk01 2006 model. Had to rinse/repeat several times, but fix worked. Thanks for the share!
I had the same issue with my GE 1.6 cubic foot Over the range microwave oven model# JVM3160RF2SS
I watched your video and tried the same fix and it worked like a charm. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you ! This fix worked for mine! I had two relays on a different part of the board, but still worked.
Worked like a charm. Took less than 5 mins🤘🏼thought I was gonna have to spend a arm and a leg to fix it. Thanks awesome video

This actually worked as is five minutes ago. Just moved into my house and this saved so much time. Worked on a GE.
Thank you, I have a GE but I disconnected something similar with 3 wires. Tapped with the tip of screwdriver 3 times twice and wouldn’t work. Flipped the screwdriver and used the handle and 3 stronger whacks later and it fixed the issue 😅
I just tried this and it works!! Thank you so much!!
This worked for me. You're a lifesaver!

Thanks fixed it for me. My microwave is from 2020.
Super Helpful. Fixed the same issue I had with my GE.

Omgoodness! It worked. I did have to knock it a few times.
This worked perfectly for my GE microwave. Thank you!!
Thank you! Fixed our Frigidaire microwave using this👍
Worked for sharp carousel model r551zs except there are two relays, big and smaller; I tapped on the big one, nothing happened. When I tapped on the smaller, I heard a click and the issue is fixed ;)

Thank you.👌
Yep. Simple fix for the repairman to come and fix my 3-year-old Sharp.😕
My Samsung microwave turns on if I shut the door. I tried unplugging and plugging the relay back on, but still have the problem
You may have to tap the relay with a bit more force to encourage it to open.
Always unplug before popping off the top vent
Mine runs but won’t heat!
Español camarada español !!!
