My son’s built in microwave began sparking. He’s not very technologically adventurous so he called a repair service. The repair man said it was a lost cause, would cost 500 tp $700 to replace. I found your video and sent it to my son. For 5 bucks he got 5 pieces of wave guide material, one of which he trimmed with a utility knife and now his microwave is spark-free. Thanks! And no thanks to the crooked repairman who preys on the unknowing public
Thanks. I used your video as a reference. My Microwave started sparking really badly. Because of your video, I looked at my wave guard and it looked like yours. Maybe even worse. I got a pack of universal ones from Amazon. I could not reference a specific one to my Emerson Microwave but I'm glad I couldn't. The universal ones are cheaper. It so happened the new ones were the exact same size as the one that came out of my Microwave. Took me one minute to install the new one and my unit works like new again. Thanks. You saved me from buying a new microwave.

Another informed consumer! Thanks for saving one more microwave from the landfill. We got the spark, cleaned the wave guide and behind it. Problem fixed! Thank you!
Thanks for this video! I couldn't figure out why the microwave suddenly started misbehaving in this way. I replaced the waveguide and seems to be good to go again. For those reading this, I got a generic waveguide because my part store didn't carry Sharp products. It's just over-sized and only cost $2.50. I traced the exisiting one it and carefully cut it out. Seems to work! Thanks!

I was literally searching for microwaves because mine sparked on me last night. I sorted the choices by price and saw this part come up and remembered that's where the sparks were coming from. SOMETHING told me to Google my issue and then your video came up. Now I know how to fix it and don't have to buy another one right now. THANK YOU!
THANK YOU... Thank you very much sir. Thanks to my wife who said check UA-cam, I found your clip and problem was solved. I put scotch tape on it and ran it for 30 seconds & VOILA, thanks to your advice it was proven that was THE problem. Next I went to Amazon and what do you know, they had one with exact measurement down to the millimetre & even if you don't find one that fits your microwave, they have material that you can trace and cut your own size. Thank you sooo much for this information.❤️❤️❤️ We were ready to load my GE microwave browner to drop it to an e-cycle place. But I saw your video and ordered it from Amazon. Now, my favorite microwave is working again and saved us some money! ❤️❤️❤️
Are you kidding me??!!! Loud noise, big popping and sparking. I was just about to buy a new microwave but took off the wave guide, cleaned it and the problem disappeared. I will be ordering a new one, but it is working for now. THANK YOU!!!
Thank you for this! I did a deep cleaning of ours and this fixed the problem - and saved a replacement of a $1,000 built in drawer microwave. I've ordered a replacement as well to have on hand that will likely need to be trimmed as after searching everywhere could not find the exact part.
You should never operate a microwave without anything inside it. Without a load (something to heat up) the microwaves can actually end up bouncing around and going back to the magnatron, stressing it and reducing its lifespan. It can also cause the glass microwave turntable/plate to heat up very quickly to dangerous temperatures. If you're going to test a microwave like this, put a bowl of water in the microwave with a toothpick (or other nonmetallic object) in the water to prevent superheating. This will absorb the microwaves so they don't damage the magnatron or turntable
We had already put our microwave out on the side of the road for trash pickup because it was arcing and I didn’t think that could be fixed. But just in case I searched the problem and found this video. Brought the microwave back inside, wiped it off and checked out the waveguide cover. Ordered a replacement because ours was so charred it actually had a hole burned in it. The waveguide covers (pack of 5!) came in a couple days and cost about $6. Thanks for this video!

As a make-do before your new wave-guide comes in or if you have trouble finding one for your model, the following easy fix has worked for me twice. Carefully remove the current guide (mine just slides up and out) so it doesn't get bent, clean it (don't soak it, wipe it), turn it upside down so the burn patch is on the bottom (it's on the top most, if not all of the time I think), and put it back in. Test it. It should (knock on wood) work fine. If it doesn't, just turn it off, unplug it and wait for a new one. No harm done. It was well over 10 years ago when the sparking/smoking happened the first time. Today it happened again. I'd forgotten that I'd rotated it just out of curiosity (and desperation ;-), since it took a long time to find a new one way back when. Today, I came up here to see my options and this video triggered the memory. The burn was close to the top, just like the other time, so I took it out, wiped it , rotated it, (don't reverse sides) and put it back in. Works great again. Should work for a quite a while as long as the guide surface and its edges are kept free of particulates. Particles on other surfaces won't cause a spark.
Thank you both (video creator and this poster) fixed my elderly fathers microwave. Gonna purchase a new wave guide bc the original is burnt pretty bad.
Good info. Thanks. I have an expensive Thermador drawer microwave. My waveguide is mounted on the ceiling inside the microwave and it's okay. I have been getting an arc from the metal 'axle' or post for one of the roller wheels of the drawer against the lower back corner where the paint is burnt off. It appears, from watching another video, there is a special paint for the interior of microwaves that can be used. I mention this in case my problem is the type others are having.

Thank You! I cleaned the oven and the guide thing. It was arcing on the top part, so I flipped it around and put it back in and Walla! No Arcing., but I will get a new wave guard ASAP.
Last night, our Samsung OTR microwave popped and sparked and now it seems that it no longer works. All the lights and controls work but it does not warm anything and no longer sparks. I suspect it may have damaged the magnetron but thought there may be a fuse or something also. I do not see any obvious damage at this point before opening it up. Model# ME16K3000AS/AC Thanks if you have any information that can help.
@@JMGENTERPRISES No, I am unable to see it, it has plastic covers. Other than it not warming anything up, there is a new low tone noise. Since everything else seems to be working correctly, I am going to open it up and check the capacitors, transformer, Diode, line fuse and magnetron. Don't worry, I will discharge the capacitor and unplug the unit first.

Hi! Can I know what the name of the thing??
Waveguide cover
@@JMGENTERPRISES Thank you. 🙏
@@UmieISMamaKusuma You bet! Hope it helps!
Model# ME16K3000AS/AC
Thanks if you have any information that can help.
I am not too well versed with that model. Do you have a waveguide that appears damaged as I show in my video?
@@JMGENTERPRISES No, I am unable to see it, it has plastic covers.
Other than it not warming anything up, there is a new low tone noise. Since everything else seems to be working correctly, I am going to open it up and check the capacitors, transformer, Diode, line fuse and magnetron.
Don't worry, I will discharge the capacitor and unplug the unit first.
@@dizzydinonysius Sounds like you know what you are doing. Yeah, be careful. Let me know what you find out!
Wowwwww, thank you for this information.
Anytime!! Glad I could help. 👍
Thanks for this video . U just saved me from buying another microwave. Super happy 😄

Thank you for this video. I was able to fix the sparking issue with my microwave. It worked like a charm.
Excellent! Good job 👏 👍🏻 👌🏻
Hi dear is it necessary to keep this safety pad detached. Because I removed this pad from my microvave oven as per the manual installations.
Kindly let me know what happens if we remove this pad and use the oven with out this safety pad.
Don't do it! Make sure the waveguide cover is always clean and I stalled when operating!
Thank you thank you thank you 🙏 you saved me so much money!!! Cheers!
Sweet! Glad to hear it!
