I'm loving these newsbriefs. They're a real contrast to the perfect world shown in the commercials. It's fascinating to get a real time feeling for what was going on in the world at the time. I wonder if anyone has any old newscasts kicking around? I've seen a few on youtube, but it'd be cool to get a channel like this running with some.
I remember how before talk shows to over how the networks would show reruns or their Sitcoms. It was something to look forward to when I was home sick from school.
Ah, good ol Ollie North. I remember watching part of his Congressional hearing on TV and wondering what the hell they were all on about. (I was 9 at the time) I also remember my mother getting those Lipton Cool Side Salads from time to time. They were quite nice. The voiceover makes them sound positively orgasmic. :-p
Hey! @ 1:18 we have Victoria Rowell (who played Drucilla "Dru" Barber on The Young and The Restless on CBS for a million years) dancing her way through a tampon ad!
@80sCommercialVault Well I'll be, that you have! I never checked the actual playlists before. Thanks for pointing me in that direction, I know what I'll be watching next. :)
@CobainsRemains I've had to do research on pretty much everything I post. It wasn't too difficult to date this tape using the news stories/tv spots as a guide. It really depends on what's on the tape. Network stuff is usually much easier to date than stuff recorded off of cable.
Pine Sol shows we care about $50 ads! Why is it we always saw crazy husbands on the phone not being able to handle anything in the 80s? Mr. Mom that popular? OB Jellyrolls! MMM!! YES! Hefty Wimpy ad! Only took 235 volumes! Interesting to see sitcoms on in the mornings. Of course, ABC was the first network to stop showing game shows in the 80s too. Too bad we didn't get a "We're Beatrice" jingle at the end of the Manwich ad. Pure 80s FINAL DAYS -- the end is near!
why would we need to know that Tammy Faye Bakker went to Kmart in a limo? 17. Oh the 80'sness of it all! I didn't know Hefty's "wimpy, wimpy, wimpy" tagline was that old
@TEEFUS87 Yeah, and on such days (or during the summer, since I lived next door to grandparents at the time) I.. dare I say it.. enjoyed watching the NBC soaps. At least "Another World" and "Santa Barbara" had some fairly-discernable plots.
GREAT set my friend!! Thought I'd never see a hefty wimpy, wimpy, wimpy as ever again...LOL. Now, I have a major sweet tooth and I remember Choco Bliss but they were soooo sickly sweet that I had a real tough time enjoying them...AND I WAS 9-10 YEARS OLD at the time so you know they were BAD!!! By the way, what's up with that Lipton Cool Side Salads lady. She has soft-spoken lisp. How annoying...
What was the sound recording process for the Pine Sol commercial, a microphone in a plastic bag? And no, this is not criticizing the fact everything's on a VHS as sound clarity with VHS is usually pretty impressive considering...but...yeah. o.o;;; I now also very much crave pasta and brownies. Muchas gracias~ Also, *now* I know what the word Manwich came from. 8D I'm so telling my folks around me about this.

I love that constantly flashing "FINAL DAYS" on the aerobics ad. It's the end of the world...for cellulite!
The pasta salad commercial lady sounds like a yoga instructor.

Is that the mom from "That 70's Show" at 0:53 on the Polysporin ad? Keep up the great commercial memories!

Ah, Oliver North. He was just poured into that uniform.

@LenaAndreia I've posted several complete newscasts. They're in the "News" playlist accessible on my main channel.
