This is the song for the Unification of Germany and Europe. I was 7/8 years when when it happened. This song came out when I was 9 the whole 1990s in Europe was filled with hopes of being a whole continent of unification and love. The only thing we had to solve was the war in the Balkans and we would be a full unit. Then 9/11 2001 happened and we knew that "Wind Of Change" was no more. It's so sad and so much tears when you hear it now. Such a beautiful song.

This song has always had a huge piece of my heart, even without singing in the music video you can tell that it’s a song of hope through adversity. That no matter what happens in this world there’s always a chance that things could get better, but they can’t get better if nobody stands up to try. This is the song that calls for action calls for change but it calls for us to keep our hope.

A war primarily between US and Soviet powers. The Scorpions are a German Band who gained most of their celebrity in American market. One of my favorite songs growing up. I was lucky enough to see the Scorpions live several times. I don't remember how I found it, but I found a single of Winds of Change, but partially sung in Russian. Russian friends told me the pronunciation was terrible, but for me, it was good enough and it made it even better given the fall of the Soviet Union - it just *fit*. That was back in the days of cassettes and CDs and long before Napster and Spotify, so finding unusual tracks was like a personal gold mine. Now that my memory's been jogged, I'll have to find it and give it a listen. Highly suggest it for Scorpions fans that didn't know about that particular track.
/Edit: Link to the Russian version. Also, my memory failed me! It's completely in Russian!

It's Great song and used to present Hope and Joy atleast for me when I was young. But now it makes me sad. I used to think wind of change would have been all over The Earth, but now I know it only considered a very small piece of The Earth. And like President Niinisto Said "The mask has now come off and only the cold face of war is visible."

Man, this song is a blast from the past. Yes, it really is an important part of the zeitgeist of that time, I totally agree. I know people who sold everything they had, money, property, everything and risk their lives just to pay someone to get them across the wall. I can't even imagine what that does to you. This song always reminds me of them

Mike really is one of the best vocalists of all time but sadly that video didn't include that much of it.
To see two different sides of Patton i would recommend that you see the video on youtube called "Mike Patton (Mondo Cane) Lontano Lontano @ Teatro Caupolicán 21/09/11 HD" and after that see the video called "Faith No More - Cuckoo For Caca (Optimus Alive, Lisbon, 07/08/10)"
Both amazing performances and gives you an idea of what he is capable of doing.
    Love your work man.

Every German remembers the day when they opened the gates between east and west germany. I switched on the TV, because there was a rumour all around, I couldn't identify. I was already in my 30s at that time. At the Bundeswehr (the german army, they told us that we eventually must fight against the people on the "other side", but we all knowed the real enemy !
I was ready to protect my country, even with a bad feeling inside.
Looking TV I first thought I see a kind of science fiction movie or a fake documentary, but then I recognized the truth.
    What a lucky day...
We call that song "The soundtrack of german unity"

This song really has no genre in my eyes. It's a rock ballad technically, but no sweet child.. It's kind of like an anthem for everything and everyone. Just as neutral and easily processable as possible in the stylistic choice, but incredibly honest and sincere in its dialog. This instrumental wouldn't work without the lyrics I think. Or at least not as well as it panned out.
