Thank you very much for reacting to this one. It's been a while since I've heard it. I see that others have already filled you in about why the song was written and sung. Wonderful music, and created for a wonderful reason. Again...THANK YOU! 😀
Thanks for another great reaction. I’m so glad I found you. You pick excellent music to react to. I was born in the 70s, so I grew up with this music. I know these songs so well, I could sing every note and word in my sleep. To me it is actually astounding that people of your generation, who are clearly highly interested in music, haven’t ever heard these songs. To me they are absolute classics and I guess I just assume everyone still knows them. I’m glad you’re listening to some of the older stuff. I’ll be along for the ride ❤
It was originally written about the Moscow Music Peace Festival. Where Eastern heavy metal & rock bands (such as Motley Crew, Bon Jovi etc)were allowed for the first time to play with bands from the west (Gorkey Park, Scorpions etc) with each other in Moscow.... A few months later the Berlin Wall fell & the band being from Germany included the imagery in the video.
This was a wonderful anthem describing the break up of the Soviet Union and the re-unification of Germany with the downing of the Berlin Wall. It echoes a time of hope with the children of tomorrow dreaming of a brighter future for us all. How sad those sentiments were treated by some in the west with contempt and a sign of weakness that could be exploited...Hence we have the enormous problems of today. Will we never learn?
The very first time I heard this was while watching a Filipino cover band in Singapore. They nailed it, (including the whistle) I had been at sea so didn't get to hear it before that. I LOVE the Scorpions. I rock with them, but this my favorite song. 10/03/2017 Grand Sierra Resort Reno
Scorpions were way before my time but they're my favorite band. I totally recommend Still Loving You or No One Like You. Klaus Meine (the lead singer) has my favorite vocals of any of this era hair bands. And I'm a drummer and I think Mikkey Dee is one of the best of the era too. And they have great guitar solos and their lyricism is so strong, too. I'm just a huge fan.
In the video, the last wall you see coming down, is from when Rodger Walters took an all star cast to Berlin just after the wall came down, and played the whole concert, which featured the Scorpions.
The other comments answer about the song.. To add.. Scorpions has so many great albums, so many years and they still going today. Their early stuff is more heavy. Very great song to react to is 'sails of charon' from late 70's
It was inspired by the Moscow Music Peace Festival 1989 held in Lenin Stadium, just witnessing a changing world post cold war. Written in 1990. Too bad it didn't last. Guitar solos? Try our little Canadian secret Ian Thornley of Big Wreck. Ghosts, live Suhr 2015. They're still making new music today.
This song always makes me sad. I was in Germany when the wall fell and the cold War ended and look where we are now. The world had so much hope, then, and it was all for nothing.
Great reaction to my favourite band :) Klaus Meine is one of the best rock vocalists to ever be on stage. His voice is incredible. If you want to hear more, I would recommend In Trance (some fantastic older live versions around), We'll burn the Sky, or Send me an Angel. Or Still Loving You, which is not my favourite, but one of their most successful songs and it showcases the range of his voice beautifully.
@@setonhillstudios If you do more Scorpions, I'll be back for sure :) You'll get a lot of recommendations for their more known rockier songs, but if you love voices, listen to the ones above - his voice blows you out of the water in any one of these. And he's just as good live as in studio. They all are. Truly amazing band.
As a German, I don't know what is cringy about them. Brilliant musicians, outstanding vocalist, fantastic songs. I mean, not everyone will like their music, different tastes and all that, but cringy? And this song, while maybe the most successful, is not necessarily their best one. The most amazing gems are the lesser known songs.
@@miceandmen boils down to personal taste, or maybe even DoB. One person's cringe can be another person's vibe - just expressing personal preference. Very happy to agree to disagree about music.
@@christineschmidt8501 Wasn't meant as an attack, sorry if it came across like that ;) I just don't see the cringe factor, while music unquestionably is a matter of taste and obviously not everyone likes the same stuff, which is a good thing. It would be a very boring world otherwise.
I don’t know if I have seen a single reaction to this song yet that actually listened to the lyrics, or knew what the song was about. This was no different sadly 😢

One thing I didn't mention was that epic whistling! Such a great tune!
They are a German band and the song was about the fall of the Berlin Wall. Another song to react to would be Rock You Like a Hurricane.
I’ve actually heard of that tune! 🎵 I did not realize the Scorpions sung it. I definitely have to do a deep dive of their tunes! Thanks for sharing!
This was an anthem when the Berlin Wall fell. Always been one of my favourites 🥰

This video always makes me tear up.

Awesome, thanks for the suggestion and info!
The solo is playing by Rudolf Schenker, the leader of the band.
SRV!!! ❤❤❤❤✌️
They German and honestly there singer (Klaus Meine) got the purest voice. They are up there with queen. It’s a shame nobody talks about them as much
Absolutely incredible! Now that I have discovered them I have to check out more! Thanks for watching!

90s also have guitar solo.. Example guns n roses
Fair point….I would argue that it was on the decline then though. Slash was on the edge of that iconic guitar player in a rock band.

As a German, the Scorpions are always slightly cringy to me. I'll give 'em this one, though. Fall of the wall, what a time to be alive.
