This song will be forever connected to an era of change and hope, when not even the sky was a limit. I only wish people had dared a little more change at the time. Then, we could have had more hope today, for it looks like the days of cold and even hot war come back onto us, because the wind of change didn't blow strong enough in the east, and calmed down to but a whimper today. Russia was not ready for a change.
After the wall came down, me and some friends organized international sports events with competitors from all over the world, west and east. Everyone was positive and hopeful about their future in a free world, but I haven't heard of most recently, and I fear that many of those we partied with all night, are now at war, dead, displaced, or don't dare to speak their minds any more.
      Winds of change ...

@@martinkopplow8392So true my man. The problem is, each new generation born into prosperity has no perspective on what the hardships of war are like until and unless they've lived through it themselves, so after a couple of generations the horrors of it fade, and the flames of conflict and judgement against one another begin to stoke once again, until a build up and climax of violence reminds another generation of what really matters and what must be avoided at all costs, rinse and repeat. It's a cycle, in the 80's and 90's we were in the glorious peaceful era of the cycle, but it doesn't take a genius to look around at the youth of today and see how they invent problems to be angry about because there is no true enemy or hardship in their lives, and this drives our culture towards a unmotivated, self-centered generation with little more than disregard for the value of human life (including their own hence exploding suicide rates). By the time our children were teenagers, they believed "trying" was "lame", and people who strive are mocked and called names. Now they are in their 20's and 30's and I can promise you they would never be able to even get through boot camp much less storm the beaches of Normandy. Our nation is in huge trouble, and with it the world for if we fall, there will be no refuge from the one world government, military industrial complex, WEF world domination war-cult. Over 70,000,000 people perished in World War 2, which is more than all wars before and since COMBINED, yet I fear that will be a drop in the bucket compared to what is soon to come.

I was in highschool when this amazing act of peace and unity took place. There was a German exchange student that year and she was at my house when these events came on the TV. She was so excited and neither of us held back tears. It truly felt like there was hope of peace in the world, but we all were wrong. @@boblozaintherealworld3577 watching everything going backwards at high speed. The second cold war has come. I remember as a little girl watching The Day After and being terrified of a nuclear war. But then things changed when I was 14. The Soviet Union existed no longer. Freedoms were restored to many countries. And then in 1990 the demolition of the Berlin wall. A country once divided in two was united. Germany will remain united but threats of nuclear war between Russia, along with it's allies, against NATO is once more. It's heartbreaking. But the world is such a mess that it's not something people have the energy to worry about. I know I don't, I'm waiting for God to step in before we wipe ourselves out of existence. At least that's my hope. I know many think that's a ridiculous belief and I understand and respect their opinion. In the meantime I'm just going to do my best to love my neighbor and be kind and hopefully help and encourage others to do the same. Just wish more people respected and loved one another.

This is a beautiful song and so emotional, not only at the time of its release, but even now! It still makes me tear up.
The Wall came down during one of my classes, my 1st semester of college .. a teacher announced it in class and we got to see it live on television. We were all crying, because the world had never felt hope over the end of the Cold War. We were still scared of nuclear war!
This song was powerful because it spoke about us all being as close as brothers - especially after all the lies and deception from both sides of the Cold War fight. It was unheard of around this time, bc communism and the U.S.S.R. were still going strong at this time (the Cold War started soon after World War 2).
I originally thought the Scorpions were a Russian band, bc of the walking down to Gorky Park reference, but then I learned they were German. It made sense bc of the fall of communism coinciding with the fall (tearing down by young people) of the Berlin Wall. I think the sound at the end of the song is supposed to be one of the Berlin Wall bricks falling to the ground. The Berlin Wall was a very emotional symbol because it separated East Berlin (communist Germany) from West Berlin (‘free’ Germany = western democracies).

Refering to this you could listen to 'pushed again', the only english spoken song by the most famous (punk-)rock-band from germany. A song that is very special in its own power.

This takes me back. I bought this on cd when it came out. The video has even more meaning for me personally as my father, a German teacher, was photographed at the Brandenburg Gate, Berlin, East Germany 6 weeks before the Berlin wall was erected. An iconic video and song.

The Scorpions were a great band, and this is really their most introspective track.

This song is about the fall of the Soviet union and the Berlin wall. This concert was in Gorky Park, Moscow, Russia. The Scorpions, Bon Jovi, Pat Benatar, Motley Crue, and several other groups all joined for the fiisrt concert by western artists allowed anywhere is the Soviet Union. Thus The Title " wind of Change".

Thanks. Klaus Meine the singer wrote the song after they performed for the first time in the Soviet Union in 1988. Today they changed the line: “Follow the Moskva / Down to Gorky Park.” to “Now listen to my heart / It says Ukrainia”.

I hope at some point you react to Scorpions from the 70's, as they were much harder rock than some of this 80's stuff. "The Sails of Charon," "Holiday," "Lovedrive," "The Zoo," "Can't Live Without You"... etc. They are a very underrated 70's rock band and deserve a bit more attention.

a song of it’s time. captured the zeitgeist. What an opportunity for a future of peace and shared prosperity, finding brothers where once we had been told there were enemies. viewed now from 2024, the whole experience is tinged by sadness at what has become of that hope for a better world.

“Rock you like a hurricane” is my favorite!
Polo-I really love the way you do reactions, it took me a few videos to get used to how you click in with random comments throughout, the rewinding, etc-BUT, that’s how we all listen to new songs, especially when your friend or sibling says ‘hey, you gotta listen to this song!’ -you listen together and then cool parts of the tune strike a chord, you talk to each other, even if it’s over the track “oh wow” “oooh I loved that part” “wait, what was that? Let me back that up!”
Watching your reactions takes me back to sitting in my childhood basement, listening to new records with my sisters and friends 😊
    Rock On Polo!

I miss that era when, from time to time, somebody would sing to mean something important. No surprise this song has over 1 billion views now, there's always someone in an occupied country or region who needs the hope it conveys.
