    Nice video! We bought our 4 Runner in November 2016 and it has been rock solid the whole time. Initially we were looking at a white Trail edition but the wife and daughter didn't care for the hood scoop. We settled on an SR5 Base 4x4 because it had a 3 row seat. After spending 6 years of its life as a mall crawler and soccer mom hauler the wife wanted something with a power liftgate which was her only complaint about the 4 Runner. We got the wife a new vehicle and I inherited the 4 Runner which to be honest when we bought the 4 Runner was my plan all along. Since the 4 Runner became mine I have added quite a few mods including tires, lift, roof rack, lights and various other items and take it off road quite a bit while also using it as my daily driver. Going on 7 years old my 4 Runner still feels solid and to be honest I like the way the 5 speed auto trans shifts and the tractor like sound of the 4.0 brings a smile to my face lol. Up to this point its been a solid vehicle whether its on the trails, on the sand at the beach or on my daily commute to work.

      Hey Jesse - what a great story and an end-game if I ever heard one! Glad to hear you've found complete contentment in this machine. The 4Runner is one tool I'd never be without in the middle of nowhere. Take care of that rig and it'll take care of you. I always come home after an escape in this Toyota and my Wife is always happy for the uneventful arrival (or so she says LMAO) Thanks for watching...and the sub! RUGER

    We have a 16 trail edition w/kdss also in silver. I bought it in fall of 15. In 17 my wife borrowed it for a weekend and that’s the last I saw of it. She wasn’t going to give it up. Fast forward to today 2/10/23. She still won’t give it up and I miss that thing so bad I just picked up a 23 Trd off road premium 2 weeks ago in magnetic gray metallic (non kdss version) so we love our 4Runners and have 2 now. Stellar vehicles !! The 16 has 70,000 miles and my 23 has 1700 miles with a garage full of parts waiting to be installed.
    Once you lean the 4wd controls and what speeds they work at and what speeds they don’t it’s really a comfort have those at your disposal. Like you we just travel ourselves in the north woods of Wisconsin. The things we like is it’s built like a old school tank. Very solid and composed giving great piece of mind for our adventures and explorations.

    Great vehicle. I have a 2015 SR5. Only complaints is both sun visors drop, and a bolt came loose inside the rear door so you hear it roll when you open the door.

    I am in the process of buying a 2018 4Runner Limited 4X4 with 60K miles from the original owner who has all the service records. It was his wife's car and has never been off road and it looks brand new inside and out. It has just about every option including running boards and the slide out tray in the cargo area (which makes the back end flat with the back seats folded down and suitable for sleeping). I think we'll be completing the transaction this afternoon. I will tow a little teardrop trailer with it on long trips that weighs about 900 pounds. I've had no issues pulling the trailer with a Lexus RX 350 so I'm sure it will be a piece of cake for the 4Runner. On long trips I drop the trailer in campgrounds and explore around the area in my vehicle. The size of 4Runner will allow me to car camp in remote areas and be able to photograph at sunset and sunrise.
    I have never had a high clearance off road capable vehicle and have already talked with a guy who has built off road courses with different levels of difficulty on his property to get instruction on off road driving. I am taking a 2 month trip to Colorado, Utah and Arizona later this year and need to develop some ability as an off road driver and know my limitations to decide which trails I can do with confidence and which ones I should avoid. I don't have any plans to do any modifications to the vehicle, but based on what I've read about the X-Reas suspension I will replace it with Bilstein shocks when one of the original shocks breaks down.
    I need to get some straps for cargo like the one you've got your cooler in the back secured with. Any particular brand you recommend? I will do most traveling solo with my dog and need to secure all the heavy cargo that will be around her crate in the back of the vehicle. What is your basic survival kit that you carry when you go into wilderness areas? I have recently bought a small compressor to be able to inflate and deflate tires and a portable unit to jump a battery. I need to carry a shovel for areas where sand can be an issue. I'd be interested in seeing a video where you go through what you carry for survival if you haven't already done one. But I'm sure it's a topic the guy I'm going to get off road instruction from will cover.

      Hey Don - You should do well with that unit. I have several videos with different terrains, you can see how well the vehicle will do. As for straps, they're just inexpensive units from Harbor Freight. I also carry a water filter, several sources of fire (matches/lighters/flint), first aid kit, axe, dual band amateur radio, tire pump, gloves, hand tools, trench shovel, and small wood chips to start a fire if needed in a wet environment. Sounds like you're about to have a good time. Thanks for watching 👍 RUGER

      @@4RunnerTV Thanks for that list. I'll look into the things I don't have. I'm really excited about the trip and have seen that I can't get to everywhere I'd like to go even on a 2 month trip. Now that I'm getting a capable high clearance 4WD vehicle, I think this will be the first trip of several to that area and other destinations in the west. I live near the Smokies and the Blue Ridge Parkway in western NC and we have a lot of great places to go around here, but virtually none of them require high clearance 4WD and they're nothing like the landscapes in the west.

    My 2015 has 180K miles now. So far the biggest issue has been the rear axle seal. It started leaking out the driver side bearing and that was such a pain to replace. The transmission hasn't been the easiest to service since it's a sealed transmission. The lock actuators I've replaced on 2 doors so far. Other than that, no complaints. Cheers!

    I just bought a 2023 TRD off road premium 4 runner. Itraded in my 2018 tacoma with 200k miles. I am retired military and plan to do a small build inside to take it on my travels (90% of my time is spent traveling). Ill be taking my seats (all but my driver) out so me and my dog can travel as comfortablely as possible.
    Q. Have you ever smelled your exaust? I have 3k miles on this one now and it can get super bad. Online it says to shut the windows and vents when accelerating to avoid it, but that sucks. My taco never had a smell.

    • @4RunnerTV
      @4RunnerTV  8 місяців тому +1

      No, I only smell exhaust if I'm idling while standing at the rear of the 4Runner. If I did smell exhaust in the vehicle, I would not drive it! RUGER

    • @gregjoubert5118
      @gregjoubert5118 7 місяців тому

      Don't know if you live in a warmer climate but are you driving with the rear window down? If so the exhaust can definitely come in under certain circumstances. Also, the new car smell of the engine, rubber, plastics etc. which heat up can take awhile to burn off. You can especially smell it if parking in a garage after a long drive.

    • @blessedveteran
      @blessedveteran 7 місяців тому

      @gregjoubert5118 Of course, I have the back window open. It's one of the reasons I chose this 4 runner. It's definitely the exhaust and not the smells from being new. I never once smelled any smells from my Taco. I had it from 16 miles to 200k miles. I always kept the windows (including the back) open. I live in CA, that's what we do here 95% of the time. I dont want to have to close the windows because my car smells..my brand new (expensive) car should not smell!
