    really nice build and practical. this is the way i built mine, i have a 2016 4runner trail with kdss and it's all decked out for overlandding. you sure can't go wrong with a 4runner. keep up the great work and be safe out there.

    Great build. This isn’t one of those builds you see where people just load up an online shopping cart and throw money at it. The DIY stuff makes it cooler and more special, especially since the execution is good. Nice work!

      Thank you. I appreciate that. I enjoy planning the next project and working on the 4Runner as much as I enjoy taking it on trips. Thanks for watching.

    🤩🤩🤩 WOW!! You did a lot of work on your Toyota. I luv the way you explain what you did and why you did each thing.
    It makes understanding the total package of things working together. Great Video.

    I like your set-up, it's very clean and not overly done. I'm new to overlanding and thank you for sharing your ideas, I have a Lexus LX 570 and I'm starting to slowly build it to be sustainable when overlanding or camping.

    Enjoyed your video I am a beginner at all this and I've been doing a lot of research and I have to say you're set up is excellent! I'm going to set up mine without the rooftop tent so I'm looking for ideas on storage. I subscribe so I will be checking out all the other videos you've made for some more ideas Thanks again

      If you can, I recommend removing the rear seats. At least the part that folds forward. It’s only two bolts per seat and it gives you a lot of room to tuck your tent and sleeping bags down in there and still maintain the rest of the back of the vehicle for other stuff. Or to just keep it organized.

    Beautiful no frills overland build! I’ve seen builds with a billion and a half lights and everything else including the kitchen sink.
    I really love the idea of having everything you need plus a few little additional items.
    I’m actually about to buy a rig that’s very similarly setup. I’m pretty stoked on it. I WILL however need a rooftop tent and some form of awning so I’m definitely going to check out your recommendations on those fronts 🤙🏻

      Yes, check out my video on the top oak rooftop tent. I’ve had it on a few trips now. I’m very happy with it. Also I have a video on an OVS 180 awning as well as another video featuring the top oak budget friendly 270° awning. Happy with both for different reasons.

    Nice build. That drawer system is professional level quality. I wonder if you could tel me what brand of power interrupt that is for your winch? I'm looking to install one, and that looked really clean.

      The brand I bought is no longer offered on Amazon anymore. But just search for battery disconnect and you will see similar switches. I have a simple on off switch and I mounted it to a 2x3 in aluminum piece of angle iron spray painted black and then bolted that to an existing tapped hole in the side of the engine compartment. Hope that helps.

    Such a clean setup and also a GREAT video. Love the way you explained things, straight, to the point, just being you. I bought a Tacoma in 21 and semi regret not getting the 4Runner, not in a hurry buy might make the upgrade down the road. Question, sorry if you mentioned this in your video, but does the on board air have a tank somewhere or does it just run while you use it? Thanks and great job! subscribed.

    • @destinationjourney_overland
      @destinationjourney_overland  3 місяці тому

      Thanks for watching. No there’s no onboard air tank. The compressor just runs while I’m using it.

    That is a nice setup. Quite often, when people get bogged, the rear of the vehicle is typically where the "bogging" occurs. When really stuck, swinging out the tire carrier and opening the rear door might become extremely problematic. You might want to rethink where you store your recovery gear. Behind the front seats might prove to be a better spot.

    Wow! Well done! I'd love to see a whole video on the air compressor install. I have the same compressor and have been thinking about doing the same. Would you do anything differently? How did you make the bracket to hold it?

    Thanks for the video and all of the great info. I assume those are OEM TRD Pro wheels (7” wide) No issues with the 285/70/17s as far as running aired down or anything else?

      @destinationjourney_overland  Місяць тому

      I have not had a single issue with these tires in the 4 years I’ve had them. This is my second set. I bought the 4Runner with 30k on it and the tires were half through their life at that time. Sit down great. Those are the OEM rims.

    With the Diode Dynamics SS3 fogs, which level did you get (sport, pro, or max)? Do you use them for daily driving as well? Any issues with being flashed? I just ordered some yellow max fogs from them for the hard cutoff but worried they may be too bright for street use and might have to return for the pro or sport. My issue with the pro is the cutoff on the top of the beam is not sharp and seems to have some bleeding light that could possible affect oncoming drivers. Thanks!

      I have the sport. I only use them during rain, snow and fog and have never been brighted using them.

    In one of your previous walk-around videos you mentioned that the lift was a 3in Toytec lift. In this video, you said this was a 2.5in Toytec lift. May I ask what your front center hub to fender height is?

    • @destinationjourney_overland
      @destinationjourney_overland  Місяць тому

      This is a 3 inch lift in the front. The 2.5 refers to the diameter of the shocks, which is a larger shock body than their normal shocks. It allows for more oil for better cooling. The front suspension is adjustable between two and 3 inches. Check out ToyTec for their boss 2.5 Aluma series.

    Very cool. Curious if you went with the steel skids for protection vs. trying to save a little weight by going full aluminum? Thanks

    • @destinationjourney_overland
      @destinationjourney_overland  7 місяців тому +3

      Yes. I went with steel for more protection especially in the center of the 4Runner.

    • @ashresearcher
      @ashresearcher 6 місяців тому +3

      Don't get aluminum. It can cave in a little on a jagged rock and get you stuck vs steel which would let you slide over things. Also, weight at the bottom is good for your center of gravity. That being said, if you won't do much offroading, the default engine skid plate the 4runner comes with is good enough for most occasions. You might as well save weight, gas and money

    Awesome build man! I'm wanting to upgrade my tires to those same BF Goodrich KO2 285 70 R17 on the same wheels. Did you need to do a BMC in order to fit them without rubbing?

    • @mcwendel8066
      @mcwendel8066 5 місяців тому

      I have Falken AT3Ws that are the same size on the exact same wheels and they only rub the body mount when I had wheel spacers on it. Without the wheel spaces, they did not rub the body mount. However they do rub a lot of plastic so I had to do some trimming. That being said, I dropped it off today to get a lift installed and the body mount chopped done so I can put the wheel spacers back on.

      You have a good eye. I had my wheels balanced and rotated at Discount Tire and they cross threaded the lug nut. I had to break it off. I replaced it later that week.
