    Nice work & video. I have a 2017 SR5 Premium 4Runner 4WD with 195000 miles and I love it!!

      Thank you and that’s awesome! I’m sure it has plenty more miles to go with how reliable they are.

      Same one but I’m at 75k miles. Any major repairs you’ve done?😊

      @@XxAlex530xX no major repairs but I did have the front & rear differential fluid, transmission fluid and coolant replaced.

    My Trail version '16 has been there and back. It has driven ATV trails, no trails, fencelines, powerlines, prairie wool, and bumper deep snow, all OK. I have it on standard tires. The skid plates are skidded, the rims are holding up well, the shocks replaced. It tows a 4,000 holiday trailer in 4, no issues. My observations are: the A-Trac is amazing, 4Low is powerful, the engine is solid.
    However.
    I noted early on that Toyota has the transmission upshifting too soon and downshifting too late, which makes the engine seem weak, especially when towing. I asked them to change the settings and they refused. So I shift manually when things get gnarly, problem solved. The engine works best over 3,000 rpm in the powerband, but Toyota needed good gas mileage so set it up to run around 1800 rpm. You need to know this if you are towing in mountains or a headwind. Get it out of "D" so it quits seeking.
    It is a very good vehicle, I intend on driving it to 300,000 km, my usual on 4WD SUV's, it may go farther.

      Great information here!! That’s interesting on the shifting but that’s good you found a solution to it and hopefully it keeps going well for you!!

      I had a hard time climbing mountain highways on vacation with mine and had to switch to the manual "sport mode" on the transmission a few times..........and I wasn't even towing anything on that trip , just fully loaded with camping gear and air conditioner on MAX.......so I can imagine towing up hills and mountains is awful?great 4x4

      @@michaelpalm2210 yup. That is exactly the issue with Gen5 4Runners, in a nutshell. Use the gears.

    I have the 2017 SR5 trail with only 25k. Low miles due to other vehicles.

    Thanks for the video on this! I’m looking into buying one of these pretty soon and this was really informative
    Btw, how tall are you? It looks like you fit tight in the driver seat lol

    Is it worth to buy a 2016 4runner 2wd 68k miles for 18k and it has a salvage title due insurance fraud?

    • @StandingTallAutoReviews
      @StandingTallAutoReviews  Рік тому +1

      Personally I don’t touch anything with salvage titles. I know some people do, but it just has never been for me. Miles are low on it though which is good.

    RWD or 4WD. AWD is always, 4WD is sometimes

      yup that one is part time 4 wheel drive. Toyota does make a 2 wheel drive 4 runner and you can spot it because it had an extra cubby on the center console where the shift knob usually is.

    How would you compare this to a jeep wrangler? I have a 2017 jeep wrangler and it's a VERY bumpy ride.

    • @StandingTallAutoReviews
      @StandingTallAutoReviews  Рік тому

      From what I have experienced so far it is pretty good. Definitely not rough but also is not a luxury car so there is some bumpiness.

      My 97 4Runner limited has 337k- if that doesn’t give you any indication of longevity or reliability, idk what to tell you.

    • @StandingTallAutoReviews

      Some do and some don’t, usually it’s on the higher trim levels of the 4Runner or on special packages.

    • @StandingTallAutoReviews

      They are decent but definitely not the best due to being a SUV. 17 City and 22 HWY and that is dependent on your driving style overall.
