  • This is an informative video. I share my opinion about removing /installing an intake manifold in your a Classic VW. I share why I would rather work that type of task with the engine outside the engine bay; however you can follow your own process.
Please watch till the end, and don’t forget to like share and subscribe. Thanks for watching 😀😀

Thanks for your common sense answer. Your reasons are very logical.

Informative video, like your simple talking style it's easy to follow. I'm about to do this job myself. Guess I'll drop the engine then but my question is, aren't I going to have to do the same procedure wise of loosening the middle section to be able to remove the old leaky intake gaskets? I don't understand how it saves me any steps in replacing those gaskets besides making removing the nuts easier and without a swivel socket. I mean you still need to get the middle section out of the way regardless right?

What’s the nut size diameter for engine intake manifold? I got 8/16 or something... they get on but then tightens up midway while wrenching it 🤦🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️

Hypothetically, would it be possible to replace with the engine in the car if I plan on cutting to remove the old intake manifold? I have a single port intake.
I know for a fact it’s clogged, I’ve found the universal intake manifold with the heat risers detached, and the empi single port intake end castings kit.
If I cut to remove the old intake, how much of a pain will it be to finagle the new system into place?

Yes it is possible, just takes more time due to space accessibility. You can watch a video from JBugs where they replace one with out removing the engine.

@@juniorclassicvwbugs924 JBugs video doesn't show the removal and reinstallation though, it skips over that. It just shows the manifold ends being removed, not the actual intake.

Any idea why my 1500 engine intake manifold freezes?

The only thing I could think of that would be associated to the issue like the one you describe. Ensure your manifold heat riser are not clogged. That would be my first inspection 🧐 point. Second make sure you have a good thermostat and last ensure the mechanical flapper fail safe spring is good. All of these 3 things work together. If one is not functional it affects the other. I hope this helps.
