  • In this video I show you how I clean the heat risers on a typical single port air cooled engine. The heat riser pipes typically get clogged up over time with carbon and prevents the proper function of the heat riser. In colder conditions this can cause the engine to run poorly since the fuel coming out of the carburetor is too cold. The heat riser is there to bring exhaust heat to the manifold in order to avoid the fuel freezing up in the intake.

    My understanding is the exhaust gases flow from left to right of the heat riser so it will heat up on the left first, not how you described it?

      On original units the hole on one side is smaller than the other to cause a directional flow as I understand it. However the point of tte vidéo is not the direction of the flow but rather the fact that they clog up and then have no heat to the carb area, and how I try to clean them out. Regardless of direction no heat is no heat and blockage is blockage.
