That 11/17ths time signature with the drop R tuning in the key of G flat minor with the mixophrygidan modes is the best part
Emperor Wang Lold.
dude 11/17 isn't a time signature
mixophrygian. you got a laugh out of me.
+Emperor Wang I once wrote a tune in 23. It didn't do well on the dance charts.
+Emperor Wang good joke. people who dont understand music theory wouldn't laugh, but It's funny :D
- I hear ghost notes.
- How often do you hear them?
- All the time.

If anyone here doesn't play an instrument, grab a guitar or drumset because you will learn to appreciate this type of stuff on a whole new level.
Andy Sarmiento totally agree, when you learn yo Play a son its like 10x orgasmic than when you only listen to it
Gustavo Rios agree I feel Matt's playing when I play along I'm like whoooaaaa that's fun as shit...same with Sam applebaums playing😉

what do you call a group of animals measured in the metric system?
Animals as litres
Are you measuring their Volumes?
No, we are just trying to be Djentlemen.

This is my 7mo old son's favorite song! It puts a huge smile on his face 😂
+Stacy Johnson He has amazing taste
+Stacy Johnson That's crazy. I hope I have kids like yours. I'm raising mine on metal. Tell him he has amazing taste.
+Stacy Johnson Get him a guitar stat.
Get him a guitar or drumset asap !!!
+Stacy Johnson You need to get that kid a guitar, bass or a drumset right now and get him to start learning.
These guys are the modern day Rush. The saying goes: “How are only three people making all this music?”
Multitrack recording
RUSH was way better because Geddy Lee can sing while playing the bass guitar. But Animals are also terrific!
@@daniellowry660 live performances I’m
Talking about man, especially in the 60’s and 70’s- Gessy lee was playing bass, Synth with his feet, singing and all sorts
In the case of the self-titled, two.
Exactly what I was thinking! Although I came to that realization because of the wicked time signatures
Love the lyrics

Best fucking comment!!!
I shared this w my 19 year old son and he was annoyed because he kept waiting for the lyrics
And next on Seinfelddd *Insert Bass Slaps*
lmao absolutely hysterical!
HEH.
That was beautiful. -Tear wipe-
Techically they don't have a bass but an eight string guitar
This is undoubtedly one of the best instrumental songs I've heard up to this point of my life.
Indubitably!
Agreed 100%
Jose Simental tips fedora
William Scerbo I went to an AAL show last month, and there was a guy with a trilby, and overcoat, and cowboy boots walking in front of me the whole way there. He stood on the balcony.
Jaboaflame naturally. i guess prog metal attracts such intellectuals. but really though, this song destroys
If only PE was this groovy :/
pe?
Public Enemy?
lmao when people dont know what PE stands for, even given the title of the song
My gosh, you're right! We even called it 'PE' in grade school. Brain fart!!
@@logicape Wahahahaha!~
The song is actually in 1/1
This is where it's appropriate to call something groovy in this day and age
BEWARREEEE THE GROOVEEEE
I’m not gonna like this comment because it’s at the perfect number
My friend told me she liked music when she wasn't just listening to a melody but somebody telling you about their struggles and pain... I want to hear music that can tell me my struggles and pain...show me how to deal with them... and do it with OR without a vocalist... welcome to the world of Progressive Music!
the idea that people cant hear that stuff in the instrumental composition. now THAT is a real struggle and pain lol
Absolutely! The vocals should be there to ENHANCE the music, as another instrument, instead of being portrayed as something different, the voice is just another instrument!
i just want to hear that drum and bass intro on repeat, such a groovy riff...
Chris Cooper It probably has a little bit of Nolly bass underneath too! :)
Chris Cooper Oh ok!
Chris Cooper Tosin usually uses an octaver to lower his guitar by another octave to record bass.
SzyGuy Which is kind of impressive considering using one of those changes your BPM so bass was probably tracked at like 6BPM lol.
VSTi's aren't very creative though, which is a huge factor in making music. Once we can put a conscious and thought process in that VSTi then maybe.
Heard em play this song live a week ago, shit was cash. Tosin and Javier brought out two strandbergs that literally made it look like they were playing trees.
For anybody else freaking out by the bass pattern, here it is:
Note -> 5 beats -> 2 notes -> 5 beats > note -> 5 beats -> 2 notes -> 5 beats -> note -> 5 beats.
32 beats overall. Makes sense after a few hours of desk tapping
So basically just count the rotating time signatures
HOLY BALLS THE FLOW HOOK AND GROOVE!
Love your work dude.
specialdefect
Thank you dude! :D
I don't remember P.E. being this great
it wasnt lol xp . Maybe if it WAS this groovy more people wouldve liked PE haha
3:28 When it kicks back into the intro rift, has to be one of my favorite parts of this song-and is now one of my Top 10 favorite power chords of all time
That’s awesome because there are only 12 power chords that actually exist, A5, A#/Bb5, B5, C5, C#/Db5, D5, D#/Eb5, E5, F5, F#/Gb5, G5, G#/Ab5. Although technically you could add B#5, Cb5, E#5 and Fb5 in there too but they are just enharmonic spellings of C5, B5, F5 and E5 and would only be used if you were in a key that is an extreme extension of the Circle of Fifths. Theory lesson over. 🙂
@@DRUmBEaTTS Thanks for that! It's been many a year since I posted this and I know better now.
This song is so catchy people where singing along when they played it live. Mind blowing performance
Singing to an instrumental...thats new to me haha
You have no idea dude, it was magical as fuck!
It is truly!! They are amazing live.. The Contortionist is the only band (live) that's made me feel more alive or dead I couldn't figure it out
MatttGG Love the contortionist also saw them a few years back with between the buried and me and periphery.
***** Oh shit i just checked em out awesome stuff!
These are up there with Mozart in my World. Fuck it
+Muhammad Raza But both have fenominal composition
WHOA! They have a wonderful 5:8 polyrhythm going between the repeated note in the bass and the groove (drums, guitars). EVERYONE REJOICE!!! It starts at the very beginning!
...We listen to music here sir...
madmagician07
Yes we do. Also, music always has an underlying structure, sir.
Wow, I didn't recognise that, sir. Thanks.
*adjusts monocle* well I say...
This song makes me want to grow an afro, roller skate down the street in nothing but swimming trunks and a giant boom box playing this song. And people will join me. We will open fire hydrants and play slip and slide and throw water balloons and have glorious wet t shirt contests. JUST TO THIS SONG. one can dream. I'll tell you one thing.... THIS IS GONNA BE MY RINGTONE!! YAY EEE YAAY EEEEEEE!!!!!!!
LOL, well said!

And as he listened to the song, he threw his guitar off the cliff.
So that’s why you’re now a bassist
Been waiting for someone to do something like this for a while! Very nice melodic, instrumental, progressive rock/metal. These guys are very skilled, very happy to hear they didn't get lost in it.
Thanks for the suggestion man, I really do enjoy some Japanese Post Rock, I've found I enjoy the band Toe alot!

The starting groove is really good, but what got me is the melody coming at 0:17 Whenever it comes, it feels good, especially at 0:34
My thoughts exactly. It "feels" good. This whole song makes me feel good.
and 3:28 don't forget 3:28

Straigh up "feel good"-song!
just a thought, i was listening to this in the car one day and thought the intro/slapping thing he's doing sounds like a gym full of sqeeking sneakers = PE o_0 or am i just stupid?
Definitely one of my favorites. So groovy, so melodic, so intelligent. The drop out at 0:43 SO GOOD
freestyled with some of my friends to this. it was SICK!! TOSIN=MY NIGGA!

2:20 is the best thing I've ever heard. So cool.
The build up to 2:20... Perfectly executed.
Absolutely masterful!
what's great about this song is that it is enjoyable by non-metal fans. i could see this song playing on a top 40 station and people wouldn't be too upset.
I had a 300ug acid trip yesterday and I was *living* within this song for a good chunk of it. oh my god. it was one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard.
one of my favorite songs still. that groove is just so good
They should make a soundtrack for a videogame or movie.
This sounds like it was so fun to record. Amazing song!

I swear ... these guys have helped me fall back in love with music...words cannot describe how greatfull i am for every indevidual involed in the making of this (and other) album(s)
I fucking love you guys.
The chunkiness of the main riff is just so badass and the transition into the more lyrical section and then BACK into the chunks is just UGH
All this tension leading to this calming unbelievably melodic middle part... Damn this part
I love how this song would flow into itself effortlessly if you put it on repeat.
that clean section is now one of my favourites they have ever done, super excited for this album
This is what a 4th dimensional being's conversation sounds like.
Sooo good! I don't think I'll ever hear this song again without having that in mind...
Perfect, came out on my birthday! Time to rock out.
Happy Birthday!
Happy Birthday!
Lol Thanks guys
6:00 do you hear Stevie wonder Thallin out on the clavinet. GENIUS!!!!

This song was so fantastic live.
PRIMUS vibe! Loved it!!
Really? I can hear a bit of it maybe at 3:00. Haha, Primus is crazy... :)
This band pulls out all the stops. I love the melody in this.
I saw them play this in Austin last week! I loved it right away!
Their best album yet if I can judge from 4 songs I heard so far.
This is the most amazing music I've ever heard!
What an original style and a lot of talent, tons of it!!! Love this band

Me: I love you, man.
I really have never cared for AAL in the past, but I am digging this new album. Great stuff.
This song was performed live when I saw them 2 weeks ago. Great! A must have!
The section is just beautiful. Whatever sounds like a banjo on some of these bars is superb.
I'm dancing around in my room like a idiot and I don't care. This album is beyond words!
Am I the only one obsessed with the intro?
Nnnnnnnnnnnnnope
Hands down my favorite song on the album. This whole album is truly beautiful and outstanding.
Favourite track, off a great album.
this song is beautiful live. Saw them last night, and when they played this, the crowd had such a tranquil happy vibe.
Did they mosh for no reason too cause that's what happened when I saw them live. Made them come back out and play CAFO though and that was a win.
isaacramire3 i saw this played with nuno bettencourt.
So stoned I was singing to this.
+Metro Stoof DUH DUH DA DA, DADA, DAH DAH DAH DAH DAH
Thank you guys...
I've just been getting into Cafo recently. This is the song that kicked it into gear for me.
GAHHHH LOVE THIS SONG! One of my favorite Animals As Leaders tracks. It kind of splits into two separate songs at one point oe at least that's what it sounds like to me, and I love them both. OHMYGOD!
Not quite my tempo
hahahaha
*throws chair*
+Skoshtwo So, what is YOUR tempo? Funeral dirge (30-45 bpm) or speed techno > 240 bpm.???? Hard to define tempo in certain parts of this track.....
Brian Weeks Shit man... You're missing out!
Brian Weeks bahaha u need to get with the TIMES bahaha
Its so funky and well layered
The more I listen to this track the more I love it. Especially, the section in the middle... so good.

+SoundArtist It's not often enough somebody says this
Adam McCann Really? I hear it said all the time.
1:10 - you can hear a bit of what they were doing on Wieghtless there. It's interesting how they develop over the years... A very solid release once again.
This song is SO FEEL GOOD. I seriously went nuts when they played it the first time live, had never even heard it! Tosin this is the new wave of metal, I dig it!
loved this song for years, it still gives me chills everytime 😂
this one is very Battles inspired. my favorite song on the album so far.
Oh my god, I've never heard anything like this before!
I'd never get sick of this song, or any AAL song, great music!
Definitely digging this one, its got some serious groove and a really catchy main riff/melody
Listening through the album, discovered this song, can't play the next one...
Love it.
One of my favorite tracks on this album. Great groove.
Best song on the album. It's so funky.
From 0:42 to 0:51 is ipnotic. I could listen to 10 hours loop of this and still love it!
exactly!
What the fuck is that tuned to?
That's well past the brown note
there is a bass in this song
***** nope all 8 string
what does it matter if there is bass? its still tuned really fucking low
1-6 strings are in stranded 7-8 are tuned a full step down
mate... that shits well below an E. that is the tuning for the rest of their songs, but this is ridiculously low
Yesssss, I've been waiting for this song's release since Trocadero!
Can't wait to get the pre-order album and hoodie next week.
Longish happy song i have listened too in a long time! awesoem band, reminds me of Beyond our eyes
This is the future

BEST SONG RIGHT??
Awesome stuff, I like the production.
Tosin and the Gang are incredible Musicians!!! LOve this group!!

I hate listening to this kind of music. Because it its so good. But I will never be able to actually play it. It's a win lose situation
