i liked it better without the processing .. it was more open sounding and less scooped in the mid range area. I just think it needed a little more high end and leave it alone. my opinion. Any way you slice it, those 421s from Sennheiser are amazing on toms. There's a reason they are still the gold standard. I was actually curious though what that bass (kick mic) that comes with the presonus set would sound like on the floor tom. can you try it and let me know what you think ? - thanks in advance.
Thanks for the video, this was really helpful. One thing I'm a little worried by is that squeaking sound on the floor tom mic? Do you think that was some kind of issue or error, or something with the way the drum is tuned, or something inherently wrong with the mic? It just seemed super obvious to me and I wouldn't want to have the same issue.
Thanks AJ, I really enjoyed this follow-up video. I totally agree, the DM7 set is completely usable as a starter kit or for live sound. The D112 sounds really great to me and is hard to beat for a general use kick mic. Also, I love the 421 on floor tom. I don't have one and will be shopping soon. Thanks so much for making these videos!
The extrange sound comes from the cable, for shure is touching a cymbal or stand and the vibration is recorded by the mic. The mic stands with the cable move with the tom, with a regular stand no problems at all.
Thanks Andrew. Only the kick drum sounded markedly better to my ears. The overheads and first tom were fair but snare and floor tom didn’t appeal. Mind you that comparison was on an iPhone 11 and not thru the studio monitors.
I RA'd my DM7 kit back to Presonus. The ST 4 mics can't handle either my 14 or 16" floor toms. I got the same wolfy distortion as you did. These mics are junk on floor toms.

Thanks for commenting. That’s a great idea, I’ll try that kick mic on a 16” floor tom and see how it compares.
@@hazzardsound1505 great!! please let me know how it sounds and if it works :)
This is a fantastic video, brother.
Thanks for your kind words Nathan, and thanks for watching!
Cheers Andrew worth hearing and agreed with your thoughts.
Thanks for watching!

I’ve since discovered that it was the drum head I was using on my old TAMA Imperialstar 16” Floortom. It wasn’t the mic thankfully!

Nice comparison Andrew. Certainly good value for money.
Thanks Scott!
Very nice comparison! Great!

Thanks for watching Mel!
Very nice comparison Andrew. For someone on a tight budget, the Presonus microphones would be fine but my ears liked your usual mic setup better.

That snare has some sad overtone that should have been eq'ed out and that that floor tom has that terrible wolf to it that should have been eq'ed out.
Thanks for your comment Chuck.
