Imagine the thrill of Phil’s lathe when he turned the knob past 500 😊!
LOL! 😊
The coffee ground trick worked really well on this piece. Thanks for sharing.
😊
Another great video from one of my favorite turners. Thanks, Phil. Great to be invited into your shop.
Any time, James, thanks for stopping by! 😊
Hi 👋, Phil from Phil, I hope you are all keeping safe and well, I think it looks like Cherry 🍒, as the colour and the very tight grain, resembles, cherry, 🍒, but who am I trying to look at it on UA-cam from thousands of miles away?, 😂. I could be completely wrong, it has been known very many times., 😂, great little vase, To give to love one or to some friend, as you say, quick and easy, lemon squeezy, 😂, I/we look forward to your next territorial, Whether it be a new toy or wooden, 😂. Stay safe. Keep up the great work, Phil from the moulin
Thank you, Phil! 😊
A pleasure as always😊 really like the coffee grounds. Next time I fill a crack that’s what I’m going to use.
Go for it! They are easy to use and look really great, George! 😊
That bark is exactly how I remember oak trees looked like in California where I grew up. Now I live on the east coast and the oak trees here have different bark and leaf shape.
😊
That was a pretty good crack, but with Unkle Phils coffee grounds trick, it soon appeared new again, I didn't think coffee grounds would look on light wood, But the magician pulled it off again. As you can see SMALL THINGS DO MATTER Great turning Phil. KEEP ON TURNING
Yeah, sometimes I think an enhanced crack is better than no crack at all! 😊
Oh, how pretty! It reminds me of the "I Dream Of Jeanie" bottle. ❤🍾
Oh, yeah, I see that now, Jane! 😊
Neat little bud vase; I really like the shape you chose. The heartwood really does have some neat figure.
Thanks, Mark! 😊
Just got back from a 4 day hospital stay for Covid. Was delighted to watch this video as a "pick me up" little project. Thanks for sharing. I plan to make a few when I get back on my feet. Love your videos--they always inform and entertain. Happy Holidays.
Wow, you must have had a strong case of it, Tom! I had it but it was only mild and didn't last long. Glad you're home, buddy! 😊
Cute little bud vase. The grain in the unknown wood is very nice. I love using coffee grounds in the cracks.
Thank you, Jean! 😊
I like that the little voice in your head comes up with good suggestions; coffee grounds to fill cracks, who woulda thought.😮 I’m using them in my garden to discourage critters bothering my plants.
Thanks, Betsy! 😊
Good evening, Phil.
I like a quick and easy project every now and then. This one is perfect. Speaking of perfect, coffee grounds for a repair is a great idea. Now if I can only find a piece of wood with a crack in it.
Haha, if I could only find one that didn't have a crack in it! 😊
It was interesting watching the bark come off a little at a time.
😊
A turner can turn these a " mile a minute" and they sell well. Putting a tube in them makes them usable for live flowers with water in the tube. I use cigar tubes.
Nice turn,
Lee
Thanks, Lee! 😊
Hi Phil...
Lovely looking little vase... nicely turned and an entertaining video as always...
Take care my friend...All the best.....Andy
Thanks, Andy, take good care! 😊
It is a pretty, delicate vase, perfect for small single bloom.
😊
Cute vase Phil, I am sure your friend will enjoy it! Well done and thanks!
Cheers Al
😊
At Last, Something from Phil that I think even I could aspire to! Beautiful nonetheless. Thanks as ever from one of your keenest UK fans. Have a wonderful Christmas and a happy and healthy 2024.
Thank you, David and the same for you! 😊
Phil, thanks for sharing your skills. I absolutely love this video. Probably one of my favorite small pieces you’ve done. I can’t wait to get my lathe and start turning. Your such an inspiration to me.
Wow, thank you so much Chris! 😊
Phil is who got me turning, great attitude, skills, and authentic.
Morning Phil,
What a gorgeous little Bud Vase.
I was given quite a few Cherry Branches by a friend and they will be turned into these.
Great video my friend.
Take care Phil.
Cheers, Huw
Yes! Great use for them, Huw! Thanks, buddy! 😊
Hey Phil, as a newby and just trying to take that plunge to really🙃 make something other than just chips. I am enjoying your many different projects.
Awesome, thank you! 😊
You just taught me something new. Coffee grounds with ca glue. Oh l have so much to learn, thanks.
Easier and far superior in appearance, Bobby! 😊
What a wonderful little vase! It makes me wish I had a lathe so I could try this myself. Never mind that I’m 81 years old and have reached an age that the “want to” doesn’t match the “can do”! Oh well, one can still imagin😢 Barbara
I'm sure you would enjoy the experience, Barbara. Easy and fun! 😊
I like it and the coffee was the way to go on this one.your new toy looks like fun also thanks for sharing ❤
Thank you, George! 😊
Cute little vase, Phil. With no bark or natural edge, I had to keep checking whose channel I was watching lol.
Bill
LOL! Thanks, Bill! 😊
Nice easy project. That I like! Must be cold, heard your heater running. I expect that's why the bird was here.
Yup, he was trying to get warm but he was driving me crazy, Bob! 😊
Phil. If that's what it takes to get one of your pieces of art you're invited over for Sunday dinner next Sunday at 6:00. Merry Christmas Phil and to your family and God bless you.
Please send address and airfare, Kim! LOL! 😊
Bonjour Phil , C'est trop mignon ,j'adore. C'est beau de voir apparaître et de découvrir ton travail ,une réussite.👍
😊
Nice job with that strap wrench!! I have one next to my lathe for that same thing. 😊
😊
Very nice little bud vase!
Thanks Phil!
😊
What can I say that the others have not already said? Merry Christmas to you and your whole family. I hope you will have a house full of love and happiness!
Thank you, Robert! 😊
Great little project, lots of things you can make with just a little branch.
A very Merry Christmas to you, your family , friends and all your viewers.
Regards Jim
Thank you, Jim! 😊
Made with love and care. What a special gift. Your recipients are very lucky! I hope you are preparing for a wonderful Christmas. Wishing you and your family a blessed Holiday!
I'm going to be down to the last minute for Christmas, Susanne but I'll get there! Thank you! 😊
Very cute Phil, a lovely gift idea. ❤
Thank you, Marilyn! 😊
Lovely little vase. The bark looks like cherry but the grain looks like ash, not oak though. 🧐
😊
$5 per inch at a craft show. The coffee feature is extra! Merry Christmas my friend!
😊
Absolutely cute, I'm envious 👏👏👏👏👏👏💕❤️🥰🙏🇬🇧
Haha, thanks, Maud! 😊
Cute, excellent project for the beginner.
I think so too! 😊
What a cute little vase! Thanks Phil!
😊
Lovely job, Phil. A twenty minute job? It would take me an hour 🌞
Maybe the first one, Ray. These are really easy once you've made a couple. 😊
I'm thinking from the bark that it's a birch limb. Birch has smooth bark. The vase is beautiful. Have a Blessed Happy Christmas.
Thanks, Judith! 😊
Very nice cherry bud vase. Well done my friend.
Thank you very much, Doug! 😊
Cute little vase. I have a couple branches that I've kept, not really knowing what I was going to do with them. Now I know. Thanks for the idea.
BTW, you had me chuckling all through the project with your comments. 👍
Everyone should laugh now and then, I'm glad I could help! 😊
Wonderful!! Phil, you are so talented. At $20/piece, 20 min of time, and very minimal cost (less then $1), that could be a good cottage industry or self funded hobby. Just need to find the market, which in this digital age, isn't too hard. Thanks again for sharing and I truly hope you have a Merry Christmas and remain healthy!
Thank you, Robert! 😊
That piece is Oakie-Doke🤩
😊
Thank You Phil, (this is Tuffy Marginez on another computer) Nice quick little turning Phil. I saw that heartwood on that Oak and thought of you. Not Oak? I have been having trouble lately with identifying so sorry I must have made another mistake BUT at least I'm consistent, ha. Sooo Phil that vase could have a dual use as a sock darning egg/vase.....TM
Oak grain is porous and this wood doesn't appear to be. First thing I noticed. Is it maybe fruit or nut wood of some sort?
PS- Thank you for sending this one Phil's way. Merry Christmas to you and yours! Ho ho ho!
Haha, my mom was the last to use a darning egg, I think. I always loved to hold it in my hands and feel the smoothness that years of use had given it. Yeah, not Oak but nice, nevertheless! Thanks, buddy! 😊
That's a little beauty Phil. Cheers Deno
😊
I've been turning Bradford Pear lately. Looks a lot like that 😊
😊
Very cute. Well done. ❤ 👍👍👍
Thank you 🤗
Super cute little vase, Phil! I’m sure your family member will love it!
I hope so, Marcia! 😊
This piece turned out amazing
😊
Nice small bud vase great job Phil
😊
Easy pezy lemon squizy . See you next week. Thank you for sharing
😊
Cor just got settled to watch, and you was done quick and easy, grand looking bud vase, it looks to dark to be oak. All the best from Lincolnshire UK
I'm hoping Tuffy signs in here to tell us what it is, Gary! 😊
Easy and Quick but sure looks very pleasing.
Funny how natural sawdust does not look as natural as coffee grounds for patching a crack like this one. Looks like it belongs there.
Sure is a great gift idea for sure. I should make a few to hand out since we are having Christmas here this year.
Lots of fun to watch my friend,
Gary
Oh, Christmas at home! What a treat! I will be at my daughters. At least I don't have to do the dishes! Agree about the coffee grounds, much more pleasing. Thanks, buddy! 😊
Super cute Phil thanks for sharing!
You are so welcome, Shannon, thanks! 😊
Like the sap wood and the crack, well done.
Thanks, Doc! 😊
Howdy Phil! Great timing! I needed an idea for Christmas gifts! This will work out perfectly.👍
Great, enjoy! 😊
I thought it was more like cherry from the bark and even more so from the grain. I agree though, everyone can get a branch and turn that. All the best Phil, cheers Dave
Yeah, I don't know what it is, Dave but it's cute! 😊
Nice little project, Phil! I'm thinking cherry.... Always look forward to your posts and videos. Glad the bird made a safe escape 😊 Cheers, my friend!
I think it's cherry. Thanks Phil
Gorgeous wood makes a simple bud vase !POP! Very nice and the perfect beautiful gift.
Thanks, Dave! 😊
Morning Dave... I guess I did make a boo boo with my identification of that "Oak" (I hate it when that happens). You have a far better eye than I have for wood types. My small woodpile is decades old, dry, protected in my dry garage. My woodworking projects are usually small so my knowledge of wood is also quite small. Over the years friends, neighbors have given me pieces of very hard wood and sometimes I need to guess about their origins. I live in the SF Bay Area and the variety of trees that grow in the nearby Berkeley hills is incredible. Trees from all over the world planted many decades ago. My newest fascination is with a small stump of "Italian Buckthorn" from my neighbor. The heartwood is hard, black like Ebony. Dave I have a fascination with wood but, as a practicing machinist, I do lack a lot of that third eye that comes from hands on experience like you have. Take care and have a healthy, happy New Year.... TM
Have a merry Christmas. This was a great little PJ for anyone to try. Thank you, Phil.😊
Glad you enjoyed it 😊
🙋♂️🏴 Hi Phil this is a little different from your normal pieces, but really nice petite bud vase.
Thanks, John! 😊
Very cute little bud vase Phil.
😊
Nice vase Phil, thanks for the vid, Dan.
Thanks for watching, Dan! 😊
Its a very pretty little vase! I like it a lot!❤
Cool, thanks, Texana! 😊
Howdy Phil
Nice ... don't think that was oak either
Like the Howards .... real nice on that .
I got a bunch of the bigger test tube , 3/4 round great gifts .
You heard me ... I said " the other way Phil " exactly when I finished you changed ...LOL
Yep your storm came over here ... windy and raining ....
keep on turnin'
Hang onto your hat, Bruce! 😊
I think this was the first time I didn't know where you were coming with this woodturning. However, it turnout to be a nice little bud vase. Love the crack with the coffee grounds.
Glad you liked it, Russ, thanks! 😊
Pretty little bud vase, Phil!
Thanks, Billy! 😊
Just love oak. What a cute vase!
Thank you! 😊
Great bud vase Phil...I have 5 of those glass tubes so I'll definitely be making some of them!!...🎅🎄👋😀

Great little vase Phil! Thx and take care.
😊
Lovely little vase. I’m not a wood expert, it’s beautiful though.. Beautiful little gift for anyone to appreciate ❤❤❤
Thanks so much, Maddie! 😊
A beauty Phil, e pleasure to watch as always.
To you and your loved ones, a Merry Christmas and a new year Philled with family and love my friend.
Thank you, John and the same for you! 😊
Beautiful bud vase, Phil. There will be lots of these under Christmas trees this year! Nicely done, my friend. 👏👏👏
Take care,
…..Gord
Oh, I hope so, Gord! Fun, easy and a nice treat for someone! Thank you, buddy! 😊
Very pretty nice little vase Phil! Hope you and family have a very Merry Christmas!
Thank you, John! 😊
Nice video Phil! These are really neat little projects and a good way to use up your branches. I made a bunch of these last summer out of Black Walnut and Mulberry. I mostly mounted mine slightly off center to keep some bark or bark remnants on for a little extra character
Thanks, David! 😊
A pretty little bud vase. I like the two toned colors of wood with the coffee filling. Question, can you smell the coffee when you are finishing it up?
Only the coffee in my cup, Kristi! 😊
I said leave the crack as is but the coffee fill works great. I agree it isn’t oak as it doesn’t have the grain look that you always see with oak. Nice vase. Your family member will be pleased I’m sure to receive it.
Thanks for the show.
Joel
Thanks, Joel, I hope she is! 😊
They make a very handy holder for pen or pencil
😊
What a darling little Vase Phil . You are so right saying they are fun and simple to make . Have great weekend ! And thanks for sharing the video .
Thanks, Jon! 😊
Great project, Phil. The bark of the wood didn’t look anything like the oak we have on the East Coast, so I initially thought it might be beech. The dark heartwood ruled that out. It might be cherry orchard, but I’m beginning to think Tuffy might have been right. Young red oak has similar dark heartwood around here.
Thanks, George! 😊
I have friends give me there Barocca tubes. Perfect for the bud vases. Merry Christmas to you and the family Phil.
Cool, thank you! 😊
Lovely little vase.
Thanks, Anthony! 😊
That’s the smallest turning I’ve ever seen. Sooooo cute! 💕
😊
Nice work Phil you are truly an artist 👍👏
Thank you, Tim! 😊
Beautiful, Phil. 😊😊😊
Thank you! 😊
Lovely wee piece, Maestro. Simple and pretty!
Will there be a video next week, or will you be having family time?
Jay
I'm working on next weeks video now, Jay! I try to have at least one video every week. 😊
Phil very cute little vase. Would look great setting on a shelf. Like your tip on using an oil filter wrench for tightening piece on the wood worm screw. Why do you like using coffee grounds over dust. I have saved several different types of wood dust for filling cracks
Coffee grounds, for me, just look more natural. Any piece of wood can have a dark line in the grain. I've found wood dust ends up looking like particle board when I use it. 😊
Box it up and send it to me, I love it!
😊
HI Phil the vase might b small but its so cute. lovely.
I think so too! 😊
Beautiful! Elegant!
😊
Great little vase!
😊
Very cute Phil!!!
😊
That is adorable i'll have to try that thanks Phil.
You will enjoy it, Joseph! So many possible shapes! 😊
