Just love the finished bowl. My mum, sister, brother and I love how you finish the bark. A lot of other woodturners don't sand the bark. We Love your Howdy
What a lovely elephant foot bowl. It’s beautiful and reminds me of my mom. She collected elephants and since her passing I now collect them. Beautiful job!
Hey Phil, look straight into the bottom of the bowl with the gap at the bottom. You have a smiling face with the left eye giving a great big wink!! This is the best bowl so far in 2023. Finally a bowl with inclusions, gaps and real character. Keep up the good work and soldier on!
At the start of the show you turned the wood and I saw twice an elephant foot. So for me this beautiful bowl will be know to me as the Elephant Foot Bowl. This name is fitting as I watch a lot of dirt and dust come off this elephant foot 😀. This bowl is lovely Phil. Thanks for the show. Joel
Hi Phil from Phil. A great looking please of wood 🪵. Turned into a lovely looking bowl. I thought it looks like a elephants foot When you first started with it, A great job 👏 Phil. I look forward to seeing your next project, I have a large tree down in the garden, there could be some lovely wood for turning on it . I hope you are keeping safe and well, I look forward to your next project, PHIL FROM THE DARK SIDE OF THE MOULIN FRANCE.
Hey Phil, Nice job. Yes it was dirt. Dirt often builds up where a limb was cut off like that one. I seen it often when cutting wood for the fire as a child. Yall have a wonderful day.
When I first saw the piece, I thought he's going to make a vase. Then you said you were going to make a bowl, I thought, but what about the vase........I love that bowl. Absolutely a beautiful piece of work. You were right, it was supposed to be a bowl.
Phil this bowl though hard to turn came out beautiful. I always love the fact you keep alot of it's natural beauty. That for sure shows the true mind of an artist like yourself. Be well
Boy Phil you really know how to keep me on the edge of my seat. I admire your perseverance to the end. The lady in the bowl is almost spiritual. There really no one like you and your art. This is my new favorite live edge bowl. Thank you.
...wow...was that a lot of work!!!...we'll have to start calling him Toughy Martinez if he keeps sending projects like this...😉 It came out gorgeous...very well done! Matt
That turned out to be a nice character piece. The patch in the middle was certainly hard - that's the first time I've seen wood polished by a carbide bit!
Carbides ! Next it will be resin Phil ! 😂🤣😂 I remember Jim Sprague saying in his videos he had no interest in resin , now look 🤣 But seriously a lovely hard fought for bowl . Lots of interest in that wood . Pleasure as always . 👍
I love Oak. I turn mostly Oak and Pecan. Sometimes for a piece to turn out as nice as this one, you have to work your butt off. But it's worth it in the end. As always, another great video.
🙋♂️🏴 Hi Phil what a brilliant bowl, I liked how you managed to cut it so as to mount it in the lathe with the bark forming the top of the bowl. Beautiful end result worth all your efforts and you certainly earned your dinner after. Thanks Phil. See you next time.
What a hidden treasure you found! Glad that you were more persistent than the tree. It looks like the deadwood branch was composting itself and showing you the different stages. You exposed the beauty just in time.
EXCELLENT Video, Phil. After watching you work so Professionally and Patiently I now know, at 81 years of age, I would never have made it in wood-turning. As beautiful as I could see that log was, I know it would have finished up on my Fire Log pile very early on. Well Done, Phil, Keep it up, I'll be happy to just sit and watch a Craftsman at work.
Wow! That's exquisite. I think you are right when you say it's not a root. Depending on where it was and how it sat on the tree, dirt could have accumulated in residual water and slowly seeped into the wood over the years.
I kept grinding my teeth every time you cut at the top I was certain the cap was going to come off thanks to your experience and patience you created a charm from what was destined to be firewood to others
This bowl is absolutely stunning, Phil! The bark rim, the complex colors, the grain, and all the inclusions make this one a stand-out turning for sure. A new favorite! Thanks!
Phil, very nice bowl!!! At first I had my doubts, because the wood was so pitted. I didn't think you would get past it, but it turned out awesome!! Very nice 👌!!! Well done 👏!!!
Howdy Phil love watching your videos. I only started turning a couple of years ago when I retired after 53 years being a carpenter. Your turning is a inspiration I love your live edge turning. Thanks for sharing it with us. Mask and face shield on. Hope the pot roast was OK stay safe and keep up the beautiful work 🇬🇧👍👍
The grain of red oak is beautiful, having said that I hated working with it. I burn red oak exclusively for heat. I prefer yellow birch, mahogany, cherry and maple. Enjoyed watching you give oak a spin.👍🏻
Love the end result. I had a plum tree in my front yard that I had to dig up because ants ate most of the hart out and took up residence in it. I hoped to turn the trunk but when I cut a blank from that it was all dirt nothing left to turn. I did a few small turning from some of the branches it’s a pretty wood. Enjoyed the video. Dan
Very entertaining Phil. I do not enjoy turning oak at all. The inside of that bowl turned out really pretty. Thank you for sharing. I hope I see you next week. Be safe
I just realized that I didn’t comment. Sad! This was truly a beautiful piece! Sorry it was such work, but I think it’s gorgeous! The wife saw faces inside of it. Please keep it up!
Ooof da! That was hard. Kind of like a suspense novel with loads of dirt on everybody. You worked your way through it and the ending was never in doubt. Well done! One of your best.
LOVE IT. Almost looks like an owl head. Like you said, so much going on. A great looking bowl. I could almost smell the dirt when you were working on that part. 💗
Wow I wouldn't know where to start. As usual you made the best decision. Absolutely gorgeous 🥰. I met a man today who has a tree service,he promised to being me some pieces tomorrow . If they are good maybe I will share with you 🙂
Good evening, Phil.
Good things take time. Your bowl this week is an excellent example. Stay warm and enjoy the pot roast.
Thanks, Ray! 😊
What a masterpiece of nature! "Out of the strong, came forth sweetness" or something like that 😄
😊

I'll take another look, Jerry, thanks! 😊
At the start of the show you turned the wood and I saw twice an elephant foot. So for me this beautiful bowl will be know to me as the Elephant Foot Bowl. This name is fitting as I watch a lot of dirt and dust come off this elephant foot 😀. This bowl is lovely Phil.

I was thinking the same thing about the elephant foot.

Beautiful job! Very challening and we were rewarded with your genius. Thank you.
😊
That bowl really has character. Consider that a compliment of the highest order. Handsome.
Thanks, Brock! 😊
The grain is beautiful, but the bark really sets the piece off. Another great piece Phil. The dirt is the wood rotting back into dirt.
😊
Cor blimey Phil, that was a war of attrition, well done. Looks beautiful. Thanks for sharing, stay safe, Jules, Droitwich, England
Haha, it was! Thank you, Jules! 😊

Dang ants! 😊
Live Oak is such a difficult wood to work. It’s got a lot of mineralization and it just dulls tools so fast.
Beautiful result!
Yes. Luckily, sharpening takes less than a minute. 😊
It looked like an elephant foot before it was altered. Beautiful bowl love every thing about it❤
😊
I've watched you turn a lot of bowls but this one has to be one of my favorites. You out did yourself this time! Also overworked yourself! HA!
😊
Nature makes you work the hardest for its most beautiful gems. Looks awesome
Couldn't agree more! 😊
Wow there is a lot going on with this piece of wood. There are places that look like an old volcano lava run. Beautiful bowl Phil.
Thank you, Jean! 😊
That is awesome Mr. Phil. I'm absolutely loving how this one turned out.
Cool, thanks, Greg! 😊
Amazing results from the “Elephant foot log”! You always do a wonderful job with what ever you turn. Thanks for sharing.

Phil, the deeper you went the better the wood became, you did have to fight for a bit there but the end result is fantastic, well done
Well, I knew the bottom was OK because I'd already turned it. It was just a matter of getting through the crud! Thank you, Alan! 😊
Ooof da! That was hard. Kind of like a suspense novel with loads of dirt on everybody. You worked your way through it and the ending was never in doubt. Well done! One of your best.
