Oh boy did you ever make the right choice on this one Phil! But your well tuned eagle eyes were not going to miss the beauty on the top half. Simply amazing looking Especial the compression grain WOW. Hard to improve on what nature left on the top side. So cool and I really love it. Now to dig through my pile where I know there is a piece of River Birch. I am afraid it will have to sit and wait. Hope it is not too long. Take care, Gary
Thank you, buddy! Yeah, I dang near turned all that away! Thank goodness I had just got a cup of coffee and was just standing there, studying it. Merry Christmas, my friend! 😃
Phil, I have been making my way through your back catalog, and I am thrilled to see you're still turning. You've likely heard it a thousand times, but your channel is great. Your attitude and enthusiasm are infectious. You're the Bob Ross of woodturning. Be well and have a great new year.
My vote is save the compressiin ridges and make it a hollow form! Its already a beautiful piece of wood! I LOVE how you listen to the wood about what it wants to be! You nearly had a catastrophe but saved it! I LOVE this beautiful bubble bowl!❤
I love it. This would have been pretty uninteresting as a regular bowl, but as a "bubble bowl" it really shows off the wonderful texture and colors of the wood!
Thank You Phil, Thank You Dave at Calmwood Creations.... Really NEAT-O turning today Phil!!! I enjoyed a LOT...Breaking out your Goose neck chisel, doing some undercutting was a treat and the end results were great!!! I really like this one. Until next Thursday... TM
A neighbor gave me a pile of river birch I stored on the lower deck for several months. When I finally got back to it I found some highly patterned spalting in the wood, best Ive ever seen. Maybe one day you will luck onto some.
Enjoyed the video. I was glad you decided to undercut the inside. As a side note, I watched one of your older videos where you gave a tour of your shop and found out that we are almost neighbors. I live in north Lake Tapps. (Your privacy will be respected.)
Cool, thanks for telling me that, Steven! I know people watch from all over the world but I've always been curious if anyone around here watches! Howdy, neighbor! 😃
Hi Phil... Another great success... Definitely the correct decision with the design... Entertaining and informative as always... Take care my friend...All the best.....Andy
It sort of reminds me of a turtle shell. I can also just imagine a bird family loving to nest in it while it hangs vertically somewhere. They could show off the "open floor" plan to all their friends. 😂 This one is really nice Phil. I think you did a great job.
Nice save on taking the nub off. Haven’t see you move that fast to shut it down. I really like this turning. Just a cool looking piece of art. I would place it on a shelf to enjoy. The compression grain is very unique. I like it. Thanks for the show. Joel
I love it so much!! I was screaming "hollow form!" Lol😅 You clearly heard me Phil! Thats just beautiful. And as far as usefullness, a shorter boquet or just a potpourri holder! I would love for that to be on display in my home. Thanks Phil!
Beautiful creation Phil. I really enjoy watching your work and seeing your positive attitude. I always get a laugh out of the way you talk to us like we are there with you. Again you do Beautiful work.
It's about time you did something different. Good to see something that challenged your mind. Love to see this. Keep up with the different things that shows your still thinking . Great turning!
Yay, it’s a Phil night. Just right for winding down to, this side of the pond. Glad you decided to hollow it out! Like a little spaceship - trying to take off!
Hi 👋, Phil from Phil, you nearly popped the bubble, right at the end, The compression , shell effect, linenfold, waterfall, quilted , feature looks amazing, I turned a very large winged bowl 70cm. X 46cm for somebody as a present 2- 3 months ago, I ended up hand carving, out the wings, sides had compression/quilted ,in the grain, great, looking piece of art, Phil, well done, luckily you caught it in the Nick of time, I wish you and your family, , all who watches a Merry Christmas and a happy New Year , 🥳, Phil from the moulin France ,
Hi Phil this River Birch piece of wood is gorgeous I really love the grain in it. I like the history of this piece of wood. Another very interesting project Phil, will have to get some goose neck hollowing tools, never done a hollow form but looks interesting. Thanks for sharing. All the best to you. Regards Jim
Beautiful bubble bowl, Phil ! Thank you for opening the audiences eyes for the natural beauty of the wood. The compression grain is defenitely gorgeous ! Greetings and a happy new years celebration- hope you are having some good friends at your place to welcome 2024 ! Cheers Stefan
I had to circle back to catch this one and man am I glad I did! This is in my top 3 favorites you've ever made. ❤ I've dubbed it the "Eye-Bowl".😁 It's a true beauty.
What a wonderful piece! So glad you listened to our vote and chose to do a hollow form to preserve that fantastic top grain instead of doing a regular bowl. 😉😄 That just turned out fantastic! The shape reminds me of some of the native American pieces one might see. Really appreciated your discussion of how to examine cracks. Thanks for the video and to Dave at Calmwood creations for sharing the piece of wood.
That turned out fantastic! It reminds me of a turtle shell. I make turtles out of concrete with a hold of the top for a plant and that would be gorgeous with a plant sit inside of it. I like that a lot great job.
Good evening, Phil. I like your bubble bowl. Hollowing it was a great choice. Definitely something I will try. Wishing you all the best this Christmas.
If I had to turn wood that didn't have a crack in it I wouldn't be turning much at all. I wish I had your vision because I have a couple of pieces that I really don't know what to do with. Nice project Phil!
Oh boy did you ever make the right choice on this one Phil! But your well tuned eagle eyes were not going to miss the beauty on the top half. Simply amazing looking Especial the compression grain WOW.

So cool and I really love it.
Now to dig through my pile where I know there is a piece of River Birch.

Merry Christmas my friend,

The battery ones are great too
Battery ones? 😃
Turtle shell bowl!

Hi Phil. I think it looks rather like a square home. Hanging on a wall with a stuffed toy square peaking out .
😃
