I’m 25 years old and I have a crippling fear of needles. When I was a small child I would be pinned down for my immunizations and I carry that trauma with me 20 years later… I got bloodwork done today and I did okay with the first blood draw. But when they told me they had to draw more blood from my other arm, I broke down crying. I was not mentally prepared to get stuck twice, and one of the nurses were so rude and fed up with me. She really embarrassed me and made me feel like i was wasting their time for being as upset and scared as I was. Terrible experience and even 2 hours later I’m still on the verge of tears from that experience.
I feel you I have to get my blood drawn tomorrow and I am crying becasue i am really terrified of needles and being 13yo my mum is just acting like she is done with me
I had the exact same experience as a kid. I am absolutely terrified of IV and blood draws as a result. Shots for the vaccine etc don’t bother me. But I freak out when I have to be tapped for an IV or get blood draws. I want to run out of the building the second a doctor orders a blood draw or calls for an IV. Once the IV has been set in place I can usually calm down a bit. It’s so embarrassing and flat out ridiculous but this phobia is preventing me from seeking help when I should. I think I have kidney stones or an infection and now I am sitting here trying to psych myself out for the upcoming tests I’ll need. I can’t seem to bring myself to make an appointment so I’m going to go to urgent care in the morning. My only defense is to wear a long sleeve shirt so I can cover my arms up as soon as they are done. Other than that I try not to look at needle. My last few blood Draws went pretty well so I’m trying not to get to worked up. But my last two IVs did not go well at all. Wish they could give patients like me Nitrous or something to relax them before the blood draw or IV like they do at the dentist before you get an injection in mouth
Tip #1: Do NOT look at the needle Tip #2: Try Box Breathing Tip #3: Take a friend along Tip #4: Let your friend go first (maybe make plans for something fun after) Tip #5: Become familiar with the needle itself Tip #6: Watch someone else get a vaccine Tip #7: Think about the positive results of vaccination Tip #8: Applied Tension Approach (reduces fainting) Thank-you. I'm going to make use of this to help someone close.
Life-long needle phobic … I cried for 30 minutes AFTER my last injection. I think I even traumatized the person giving it to me. Health care personnel lose patience with me pretty quickly because I act like such a baby. It’s embarrassing. I wish more than anything I could overcome it!
Don’t call yourself a baby - phobias are not childish, they’re serious problems and you deserve the proper emotional care to get yourself through them. I have to go through a surgery later that will involve needles and I’m freaking out so, so much even though I logically know that it will be fine. I’ll be using a lot of methods (person there for support, headphones w/ music to distract me, etc.) to try and make it easier for me, and you should, too. Your needs aren’t silly or childish, and I really hope you can recognize that ❤
Haha. I had to have fillings done. Actual useful advice - I communicated with the dentist to let him know how much anxiety I have with injections and I then asked him if he could give me a full play by play of what he was doing and what was going on. Once we started he told me when he was going to start one, when it was halfway through, and when it was done. There were four points to numb and he did this for each one. Knowing where we were in the process made it so much easier to handle and we were able to almost breeze through the rest. He had an incredibly calm demeanor and was by far the most helpful a physician has ever been with my anxiety. Clear communication is key - let people know what you are struggling with, but most importantly, let them know what they can do to help make it easier for you. It makes it better for everyone!
I have a needle phobia but it’s not as bad as it used to be. Some tips and tricks that help me are to communicate clearly and honestly with the person giving the injection immediately and think beforehand of ways they can help you. For me, that might include massaging the area and asking them to wait until I tell them I’m ready for the needle. As a totally blind person, I also ask them to let me know when it’s coming, as well as when they take it out. Also, I make sure I’m lying down as I don’t faint then. I ask for plenty of water afterwards too and I wait until I’m absolutely sure I’m ok before leaving - I learnt this lesson the hard way and have fainted in the street because i was too embarrassed to admit I needed some time. I also use a numbing cream, as mentioned in the video, and have found it really helps.
@@chillieboi2145 Tell the people at the place of vaccination that you have this phobia. They can help you. Make sure you have eaten adequately before hand. Remember the muscle tension technique and/or ask to lie down for the shot. It will be over before you know it. Think about something enjoyable you can do after so you have that to look forward to.
@@FriendlyPharmacy5 I've had it done. I was treated very well. They put me on a bed as I was hyperventilating and white dizzy. 3 medics were with me one holding my hand another talking to me then the 3rd person gave me the shot. It was over in seconds I was hysterical at 1st.
I do two things: I use the arm that’s not getting the needle to pinch my leg (to distract the brain) or to pull up on the arm of the chair. I also tap my foot once on the floor as soon as the needle goes in (I’m not sure how it helps, but it does).
Thank you very much for this very friendly and supportive video 🙏🏻 I have an absolutely horrific fear of needles and today's the day to get my Covid vaccine. I'm an anxious ball of fear right now
Update: just had a panic attack and tried the box breathing, it helped get me down quickly! Thanks for that. I'm now off to my appointment as i know the vaccine is the only way out of this
Im about to get the booster shot tomorrow and im kind of freaking out, but im really trying to think about how short and painless the two vaccines were. I really appreciate that you say there wont be needles in the video, a lot of others ive looked at show videos of people getting vaccinated and crying and that never helps. So thank you so much!
@@FriendlyPharmacy5 it went great! Im really glad to have it over with and thankful for the effects! However my two days after the shot were miserable from the usual sick
An extension on tip 6, my therapist is helping me with incremental desensitization! You very slowly introduce your phobia to yourself, maybe starting with a video like this, and slowly building up to actually taking the shot. It’s been really helpful, and this video is one of my steps!
I was 13 and earlier this week I had a crippling fear of needles. But after in the week I have done a shot and bloodwork and after me freaking out to the point where I barely could do it I have to say if you have a fear of pain the shots sting a little but don’t hurt and bkoodwork doesn’t hurt at all. If you have a fear of needles in general what I do is ask for a countdown but don’t look. Shot pain 3/10 bloodwork pain 2/10. Edit: I have to get allergy shots I am a little nervous because typically some shots hurt but I think it will be fine. I will keep you updated
That is a great video. I think about all the needle shy people in the community who are being subjected to endless vision in the news media, of needle after needle, being jabbed into arms for covid. Sensationalising something for the sake of it. Stupid and counter productive. I don't like blood being drawn but needles are so fine caliber now, that its not such an issue to me. I had dental phobia really bad. I watched endless videos on youtube of teeth being drilled, gum injections, and extractions. I no longer have any anxiety about the dentist, because I understand what is being done. You are a national treasure, Lindsay! I have never seen this topic discussed before.😍😍
I can't even get into the room where the needles are, let alone "not look at the needle." Just typing this is making me feel faint. I managed to get by without a Covid vaccination and last time my doctor said he wanted to do a blood test i just left the room there and then.
Vaccinations are way worse than bloodwork in my opinion. I had a crippling fear of needles until I got a vaccination and bloodwork in the same week. The bloodwork litterly didn’t hurt at all the shot was a 3/10 in pain though
Rubbing alcohol.....of course 😉 too funny. I have felt faint from anxiety over needles my whole life, so when I went to my CoVid vaccine appointment I told the Dr. at the clinic (ironically his name was Dr. Aw pronounced Ow) he suggested that I look at the clock I also did the box breath which I learned in a class for anxiety several years ago and it DOES truly help, I even use it if I can't get to sleep....it stops the racing thoughts. My experience with Dr. Aw was great, I honestly didn't feel the needle at all. Thank you for another informative video.
I look away, try to think calm thoughts, and control my breathing. I've found some people are much better administering the needle than others. Injections usually are no problem beyond the level of discomfort, but drawing blood can be a problem as my vein will close up, often involve several tries to draw a few milliliters. The covid vaccination (pfizer) was not bad at all. The older lady volunteer administered my first shot so well I literally did not even feel it. The younger middle-aged military volunteer who administered my second did a fine job (jab? 😉), but I still would have preferred the first lady. I had a friend claim getting tattooed cured her fear of needles.
It’s interesting how I got so used to vaccines but both subcutaneous and blood draws are the worst experiences. For a shot, it happens so fast and the pain is there but not terrible. The other two have such a long buildup and when they get the needle in, the sensation of it in my arm makes me freak out
I used to feel faint & occasionally faint when having needles. However, I was told by a nurse taking blood at a lab to lay down on their cot while having blood work & stay for 10 or 15 minutes after to ensure I am feeling OK. It does work. I have had no problem since. Apparently some people are wired to faint due to vasovagal reflex, or syncope causing a droop in blood pressure $ heart rate. This causes faintness and even nausea.
The same advice was given to me by a nurse years ago and it was a game changer. For many years now, I ask to lie down on an exam table (or cot) and it works fantastically. It not only takes away all of the fear/anxiety of the injection itself, but also relieves the anxiety leading up to the shot (time in the waiting room, etc). I have never had a nurse of lab tech refuse my request. I just tell them I could faint and they find a spot to lie down.
Even though I am almost 15, I still have phobia of injections. I was really scared for today’s appointment to get a COVID vaccine, but I think I am overwhelming because usually if you feel scared it probably wasn’t as bad as you thought. I am ready, wish me luck 😳
@@Fatmememan just do it don’t think about it. It will only hurt if you tense your arm. If you just relax your arm it goes through better. If you still scared, it usually comes with age… I was 12 when COVID began now I’m 17… Good luck 👍
A lot of people have this picture of vaccination years ago when needles were much bigger . It might be worth mentioning that the needle is so fine that some people didn't even feel it . Unfortunately often news items showing people squirming as if in pain when been vaccinated .
What I experience is a sizable contraction of the deltoid or gluteal muscle from a needle prick it is an exaggerated muscle reflex akin to the knee jerk that doctors test , I used to do that in my neurology residency training.
Thank you very much I have been looking for a video which gave me an answer to my phobia and since I have a flu shot appointment for tonight it made me feel very much better. Thank you very much for this video since I have had this phobia since I was just 1 or 2 years old
Hint EMBRACE pain! look forward to it as a test to prove yourself! A needle stick is such a pathetically low bar and yet it IS an accomplishment to even master that. I bet there are numerous folks afraid of needle stick pain that are not afraid of far more uncomfortable things idk maybe jumping into cold water? Or enduring painful work out? Various painful chores? Have to put things in perspective I think and set a goal to be some level of TOUGH
Thank you for starting this with saying you won't show them. I'm terrified of needles,it's beyond ridiculous I know but I just can't. I've had plenty in my life & never easy. Ever. I just freak out then they can't find a vein.... ok just I can't even. I'm having surgery in 3 days I'm so afraid of the IV I can't even think about the surgery! Sorry to ramble.....thank you for this video.
New diabetic type 1. I'm here following a chain of videos to try and help with injecting myself with insulin. The issue I have is the hesitation of applying it initially. The needle really doesn't hurt at all and once it's in, I can do the rest, but it feels like a literal barrier trying to initially apply it. Rn I have a family member doing it, but I'm trying to find a way to psych myself up so I can do it myself
I don’t like getting needles myself however I administer flu shots, Covid shots and other types of vaccinations. When I give a vaccination to a nervous patient, before I even prepare the needle, I have a 2 minute discussion with the patient explaining the process from start to finish and give the patient a chance to ask questions. I offer tips to help them relax and stress that a relaxed arm is much easier to receive a needle than a tensed muscle.
personally for me i have most anxiety when getting shots because i don't know whats happening well i know but i don't feel in control of whats happening so i like to stay up or awake for all day and night until i get my shot so i'm tired and less alert also i like to find out where the needle is and try not to look at it until the doctor or nurse picks it up and puts it in my arm then i'm looking closely but if your like me and get nervous on the way there and during the shot its not gonna be fun because your anticipating pain trying to prepare yourself for it and when trying your actually thinking about it even more I've tried UA-cam videos looking away and anything i can but for me all that really help is staying awake all day and night so i'm tired and not so energized and nervous.
I got over my phobia by seeking out various cosmetic needle procedures that result in immediate satisfaction. Getting lip fillers, getting piercings, getting a tattoo, getting my eyebrows microbladed, etc. Now I just view that needle as the very expensive vessel that delivers my beautiful lips. While the nurse is injecting me, I associate that pain with all that I gain! It has really worked but now I just need to work out a method to conquer my fear of the deeper venous procedures like starting IV’s. Touching veins still really freaks me out.
I am 18 years old but I get really anxious around finger prick and arm injections and I also have autism, I had the flu shot and my stomach dropped just riding up there, The way I make my anxiety go away is watching czrtoons about injections, It works for me
My tips are to: Breath normally Relax your arm Wiggle your fingers Concentrate on the details of a picture or a sign Dont look I had this nice doctor give me those tips, i honestly didnt even realize she was done
My method is don't look, brace my ankle and heel against a chair leg and push against it to create heel/ankle pain to focus on instead of the pain from the needle. Currently I'm at reduced needle experiences to every other month and it gets me through it. I've never had a 'did you do it' question, it hurts each and every time.
i feel like the biggest problem when it comes to fear of needles is overthinking. if you need to inject yourself, simply speed run it, don't put much thought too it. just do it as fast as possible whilst doing all the necessary precautions for a safe injection.
I have a really big fear of needles. Just looking at or hearing the word needle sends an unpleasant feeling going down my spine. People say it doesn't hurt at all, and you don't feel it as if that area was num. That is a big lie, as you do feel it and it hurts really really bad.
Long, long desensitization. My doctor's office has a phlebotomist who is working with me. She gives me a 'fake' blood test: I sit in the chair, she puts the tourniquet on my arm, she places the bare needle on my vein, and SHE DOES NOT PIERCE THE SKIN. After many times, the panic wanes.
I wish I had that kind of fear that makes you faint. But when im under pressure I just become angry and very VERY nervous as I am right now because I habe a vaccination tomorrow. But I have a plan for not making things go very badly. Ill'write a letter about my fear and that I prefer being arrogant than to hurt somebody so when I'll enter I'll give them this letter and meanwhile I'll already have full volume music in my ears so I'm very distracted. Hope this works
my entire life I’ve had crippling trypanophobia. I don’t even let people touch my arms in the spot I used to get shots and have walked around with my index fingers tucked in for years. I have a very detailed regimen and specific needs that nurses have been very patient with but I was supposed to have blood drawn today and despite the anti-anxiety meds and breathing exercises knowing just how much they were going to need to take would not let me calm down at all and I just couldn’t do it :(
So... some of these are CBT suggestions. The CBT methods of needle phobias is to create a hierarchy of exposure tasks and gradually face your fears. If you are prone to faint (not just feel like you are fainting) - use applied tension techniques to raise your blood pressure. Setting up conditional safety like breathing techniques will increase your fear over time. You can work well on a week or so on some tasks building your tolerance and do well.
I have ptsd from needles in the past, so much so, I even skipped 2 WHOLE DAMN VACCINES BY LITERALLY CRYING! (I am 13 years old btw, that just goes to show how quickly this fear developed…)
I think I'm a weird case. I have no problem with needles or blood. Getting injections or IVs is no problem, but having blood drawn is like a 50/50 on if I walk out smiling or end up on the floor with the tech waving me down with a clipboard. (this happened last time. 🤣). While I don't have a needle phobia, I now have a fear of passing out! 😄 My old GI told me that it's just a physiological reaction some people have to it and that it's not always an emotional or psychological response. He told me to always ask to be lying down for having blood drawn to help prevent the fainting feeling. Although, the lab at my current doctor's office doesn't have a bed, just a chair. I don't want to go to any other lab, because the folks there are SO friendly and it's never busy. I think I'll try the Applied Tension technique next time! Same as stunt and fighter pilots when pulling high Gs to prevent passing out! :)
I am bad luck of this planet, suffering by lung Emphysema and already i suffered 4 pneumothorax and worst than needles its drenage pipe introduced in the side of my body, that maded me strong, i am not fear of needles anymore, before i see this video, i will told my method: When i got local anesthesy, i closed my eyes and i imagined waves of ocean, like a beautiful picture with sea and beach, that works for me and i sing in my head favorite songs, like old american classic songs, like "Sweet home Alabama", bon jovi its my life and others.
I hate it when people suggest not looking at it like that wasn’t already obvious 🙄 it’s near impossible to even make the appointment knowing that needles are involved.
I used to be the best kid when I get vaccinated as a kid. But as I grew older I started getting this fear . When I was 14 I got vaccinated at school and remember fainting after that. Since then the fear has grown and today (21 years old) I got a blood test and I realized how it has grown to a literal phobia. What should I do 😭. As a female I’m just starting and I already have a phobia
Today I am going for 2nd dose of COVID vaccination and I am having needle phobia...From yesterday only I am getting negative thoughts and I am little bit panick now... I don't know why I am having this needle phobia but I will try my best to overcome this fear... I hope this time I won't react too much during vaccination...All the best to me..:-)
Take some deep breaths, tell your immunization nurse that you are nervous, try the tips in this video and it will be over before you know it. All the best.
@@FriendlyPharmacy5 Now I am fully vaccinated...I did it with my mother and father's support and I am happy 😊 now...I was nervous so today I read Hanuman Chalisa too and was taking deep breaths....Thank you...It was really a battle for me😂.....
Heres the thing. I was in the hospital 6 yrs ago with congestive heart failure and i still fought the drs tooth and nails even fighting through two adivan. I can see a needle, hold one but unfortunately have a hypee sensitivity to pain so that little pinch is excruciating
I actually have learned to manage my fear when OTHERS do the shot for me but im a 20 year old trans man who went on T last year and i havent been able to overcome the obstacle when doing it myself unfortunately
I used to be afraid as a child, because once I got a really painful injection. But nowadays I actually kind of like it, especially those really thick needles used for blood donation.
For me it’s all of it. Every time I go, I end up going to the same room, it’s always in the same area of the hospital. And then it’s the fact that it’s going into the vein. The vein is a tube. And the n e e d l e is also a tube. And things that are both tubes make me cringe. I don’t know how to explain it without showing you. So basically like when I put earrings in (the whole is a long tube) and then the earring is basically a tube shape going into that hole. So that makes me cringe. I got my belly button pierced on a whim because my friend said there’s a 2 for 1 on the piercings. So I had that done. They pierced my belly button and I passed out. And then I couldn’t change the bar by myself because I almost passed out again. So it’s more the fact that it’s a like object going into a like object shaped vein. Also I’m scared it’s get lost. Even though I know this won’t happen. And also when I was little I used to be in hospital a lot. So I feel like I have a lot of past trauma. But I hate having injections and b l o o d tests done. And also on top of all of that. They always say it doesn’t hurt. But you can feel it go in. And you can feel it come out. They have to squeeze your arm with the band thing. And that freaks me out. And that’s with the numbing cream. And also. Once they’ve done it I always pass out. So I freak out when I wake up, I go to the doctors, I sit and wait and freak out. I go in and freak out. And then I explain. And then they say I just sort of have to grow up. And then they start putting all of the stuff on me. And then they come at me with the needle. I freak out. And then I get light headed because I tense my whole body. I get light headed. Dizzy. And then when they say they are done it’s not as bad as I thought. But still dreadful. And then they say I’m free to go. I go to sit up and then I feel faint. I either get up and make it just out of the appointment room. Or I end up passing out in there and it takes me ages to get back to normal. I think it’s the build up to it. And I hate that part. So now I feel like I associate needles with all of that
this last time i got a finger prick at the doctors. i stayed calm, accepted the needle, breathed deeply. i got it and said "wow that wasnt bad at all" then immediately passed out☹️ i tried so hard to not pass out☹️
I have kind of overcame my fear as the person who gave me my first jab of covaxin ...the person was sooo good that he distracted me from the needle asking some questions to me like my name etc...i am gonna be getting my second dose of covaxin ..i hope it's gonna be a smooth experience as previous one ...hoping for best ...i am 15 yrs old..
I'm 13 and getting my second HPV but my biggest phobia is needles and sharp objects my last needle I passed out straight after and woke up and cried for 5 hours straight
I am fine with needles. I can look at it with no problem. Have injected myself with no probs, with Hydrocortisone in Addison's crisis. My husband and daughter's though hate them. I think my daughters picked up on my husband's phobia but he used to pass out everything. Now he just goes in without overthinking it and seems to be okay. My oldest daughter also gets her mind in the right place, gets herself in the right mind frame and looks firmly at me while they do the injection. She also puts her headphones on full blast and concentrates on the music. My youngest uses the emla cream.
I’m 21, and I’m going to go into nursing. The problem about that is my fear of needles. Is there any tips someone could give so I’m not so light headed or nervous around them or giving a shot?
I went through this myself and exposure therapy was what helped me. Once you go through your training, let the instructors know that you are nervous and they can likely help you through it. I'm certain you aren't the only person who has been through this - I was just like you. You can overcome this, you really can.
i convulse when i get blood drawn and it happens repeatedly i faint convulse wake up faint convulse wake up faint convulse wake up and then i’m okay i’ve tried blasting music in my earphones, laying down, sitting down, having a conversation, clenching my fist, crossing my arms and idk what to do this has happened all four times that i’ve gone to get blood work
My insurance will only cover my migraine medication in shot form only. It comes in nightly pills as well.(What i used to take and helped) My migraines have gotten worse because i refuse to need to use a shot every month. Its so embarrassing.
Yes I have tattoos, I've discovered my reasoning for not being afraid of them is because they pierce the top of my skin, no bigger than like half inch and is usually kind of bigger than just one long needle shot.
Hypnosis people! I had a major fear of needles! Pass out from them cry about them spent 44 years with hardly a prick Then I did hypnosis and I stopped drinking and I’m not afraid of needles anymore! My dr draws my blood without that heroine rubber band which is really what I don’t like the most So he doesn’t put the rubber on me and it feels like nothing at that point And hypnosis really worked for me
Every time I see a needele I start getting rlly light headed and sweaty and I watched a vid on getting a blood test because I have to take one soon for the first time and I found my self crying since I’m healthy so I never needed one so now idk what to do.
I've tried all of these and it never seems to help. Nothing ever works. My doctor cave me a pill to help calm my anxiety but still doesn't seem to help. I've tried ever option I can think of, thinking of worst fear, distracting myself, eating spearmint. It just doesn't work. I can only think of 4 times where I was able to get a vaccine without someone having to intervene. What should I do?
I’m getting he covid vaccine later and I’m so nervous. I’m not even sure why, I’ve never fainted getting one but even thinking about them makes me feel sick
Thank you For this helpfull video i feel more positive About my phobia now, I will be applying to Medical uni next week literally and i dont know if i should not because of my fear of needles and veins, should i still apply or the phobia will stay with me forever and its a waste of money💖😢 please share your opiniom Thx so much❤
I took my older friend Kayla Williamson and squeezed her hand and she just talked to me and said that I got it and I lay my head on her shoulder and started crying so bad and she said that I would be ok and she said that she was proud of me even though I got scared and I had to squeeze her hand and she said I got it and she was very supportive to me when I was scared about the shot and Kayla Williamson said that I would be ok and that I could get through it she said to look at me and I did and I still got scared for the shot and I did it and I did cry but I did it and she said that we could do something fun after I got done with my shot but I got worried and she said that I got it and she said that I would I could do it and she said to just relax my arm and look away from the shot and I did it and she said we get to go get ice cream and she said that I would be ok and I did it and she said that I could cry on her shoulder and then I started crying on her shoulder and she said that I was ok and Kayla Williamson said I would be alright but I did it
Some of the tips in this video could help. A Pharmacist or nurse may also help to give you some tips or help you do this. CBT therapy can also be helpful. If you are struggling I would suggest reaching out for help with a qualified healthcare professional. Many healthcare professionals have struggled with this themselves and are usually very helpful and empathic. I hope this helps!
I am ok with injections but taking blood is another thing it has to be my right arm they usually get the vein first time but my left arm that is another matter its jab jab jab until they give up and use the other arm.
I'm the exact same. I don't have a fear of needles, injections, and even IVs are fine for me, but any time I'm having blood drawn it's like a 50/50 chance I'll end up nearly passing out. lol.
Sorry this didn't work for me. My fear has increased year by year and it's now over 10 years since my last injection. I advised the doctors' staff that anyone who comes at me with a needle is going to get the cr*p beaten out of them. They now don't even ask me to have an injection even to take bloods. I'm fine with most other medical procedures, mind you I refuse to have any internal examinations e.g. prostate exam, etc.
Was around the 6 minute mark suppose to be helpful? You truly don't understand phobics at all. I respect your attempt at trying to help us, and I don't mean that as rude even though it cant be read any other way. Bringing up that more needles and IV's would be necessary is completely counterintuitive for a phobic.
I know right! Part of my phobia is the lack of feeling in control. When they twist my arm over it by pointing out that it could be worse so better hurry up, just makes me panic.
Some good advice. Not something I am particularly concerned with. I've had both my COVID vaccinations and no issues with either and barely even noticed the needle. I don't look at the injection site but I just think that the person giving the injections doesn't need any extra pressure.
I don't have a fear of needles but I do have a fear of the getting the vaccine for Covid because of the lack of aspirating back into the syringe anymore to ensure it does not enter a vein and go directly into the bloodstream. If I cannot find any clinician, Dr or Nurse to do this with who has experience and confidence I will not be getting the vaccine. I am thin with little muscle or fat ando I think in my case it has a stronger chance of happening and I am not willing to take that risk.
I can not look at the needle what triggers my phobia is when a Nurse or blood drawer says the words "Don't look" please do not say this to a patient it causes me to panic. I can take shots easier than blood draws. I have to always have my loving wife go with me.
Worst experience was double dose penicillin in the butt. Needle stick wasn't too bad, worst part was nurse injecting medication too fast, not mixing it with lidocaine and lying about where Needle was going. Said hip but that wasn't my hip. If she thought so, she needs to go back to nursing school.😂 Also think she injected it cold instead trying to warm it a little. Cold medication more painful. Also fact it was double dose undoubtedly made it more painful. Looking back, why not do two separate injections of single dose? Basically she didn't do anything to make it more comfortable but that was a long time ago and back then they didn't care as much as they do now.
I am pretty confident listening to Lindsay give this short talk would work wonders to Reduce Anxiety Associated with Injections and Bloodwork and even the calming of the legendary LONG TERM side effects of COVDI19 vaccine that are all over the social media by the Trump followers. (even though Trump did take his own while Trempling Trempmendously!)
depending on a vaccination I fear the AFTER pain WAY more than the couple seconds of little discomfort dang an instant immune response can ache for days! I would take dozens of injections in a row rather than that! lol just saying
I feel you I have to get my blood drawn tomorrow and I am crying becasue i am really terrified of needles and being 13yo my mum is just acting like she is done with me
Are you ok? My heart goes out to you! 😢
Grown woman here.
Yeah, dude, same. You’re not alone. And they suck for responding like that. I hope it gets better
I'm so sorry 😢 Just want to check in on you now and see how you're doing? But also, please pray for me - I'm getting an IV tomorrow oof
My last few blood
Draws went pretty well so I’m trying not to get to worked up. But my last two IVs did not go well at all. Wish they could give patients like me Nitrous or something to relax them before the blood draw or IV like they do at the dentist before you get an injection in mouth
I needed to hear “I won’t be showing you needles on this video” …. Only reason I watched. Thanks

Your needs aren’t silly or childish, and I really hope you can recognize that ❤
I'm just going to exhaust myself mentally with anxiety to the point where I can't care anymore 🙌
I break out in a sweat and panic just talking about it. I've hesitated going for the vaccine as my phobia is horrendous..
I was the same. I totally understand. Can you go with someone?
@@FriendlyPharmacy5 I've made an appointment for tomorrow for the covid vaccine. We are not allowed to take anyone with us unfortunately.
@@chillieboi2145 You did it! It’s not easy but you did it! I hope you can celebrate! Well done!🎉
I do two things:
I use the arm that’s not getting the needle to pinch my leg (to distract the brain) or to pull up on the arm of the chair. I also tap my foot once on the floor as soon as the needle goes in (I’m not sure how it helps, but it does).
That’s a great tip! If it works for you it could help others! Thank you for sharing😊
Thank you very much for this very friendly and supportive video 🙏🏻
I have an absolutely horrific fear of needles and today's the day to get my Covid vaccine. I'm an anxious ball of fear right now
Update: just had a panic attack and tried the box breathing, it helped get me down quickly! Thanks for that. I'm now off to my appointment as i know the vaccine is the only way out of this
I’m so glad this worked for you, thank you for sharing! I hope your appointment went well!
Me to im getting my covid shot in 12 hours....
Did you manage to get the vaccine? I failed to get my vaccine yesterday. I had a panic attack, the nurse got fed up with me, and I left in tears.
You are most welcome, how did it go?
@@FriendlyPharmacy5 it went great! Im really glad to have it over with and thankful for the effects! However my two days after the shot were miserable from the usual sick
Well done! Yes, there can be mild side effects after but shouldn’t last too long, better than getting Covid! Congrats!
An extension on tip 6, my therapist is helping me with incremental desensitization! You very slowly introduce your phobia to yourself, maybe starting with a video like this, and slowly building up to actually taking the shot. It’s been really helpful, and this video is one of my steps!
Excellent point!
I put my trust in the lord and take pressure off of myself, and let my body know it’s okay whatever it does.
I have never seen this topic discussed before.😍😍
this is definitely the video that helped me the most, thank you so much ❤️😭
I’m so glad! Thank you for letting me know!
@@FriendlyPharmacy5 i’m gonna get vaccinated this weekend i’ll update after!
I know someone who required a pacemaker for this condition.
Good luck!
I would ask how it went but that was 2 years ago. Are you still scared

Complete bullshit if anyone says they didnt feel it.

Thank you very much I have been looking for a video which gave me an answer to my phobia and since I have a flu shot appointment for tonight it made me feel very much better. Thank you very much for this video since I have had this phobia since I was just 1 or 2 years old
You are most welcome. I too struggled with needle phobia for many years and you CAN overcome it. It takes time, and patience. You can do it!🙌
Hint EMBRACE pain! look forward to it as a test to prove yourself!
You're most welcome, I hope this helped you!
It's hard to overcome this at first - asking an RN or diabetic educator to help you with a few consults early on might be helpful.
Love this approach!
personally for me i have most anxiety when getting shots because i don't know whats happening well i know but i don't feel in control of whats happening so i like to stay up or awake for all day and night until i get my shot so i'm tired and less alert also i like to find out where the needle is and try not to look at it until the doctor or nurse picks it up and puts it in my arm then i'm looking closely but if your like me and get nervous on the way there and during the shot its not gonna be fun because your anticipating pain trying to prepare yourself for it and when trying your actually thinking about it even more I've tried UA-cam videos looking away and anything i can but for me all that really help is staying awake all day and night so i'm tired and not so energized and nervous.
I am 18 years old but I get really anxious around finger prick and arm injections and I also have autism, I had the flu shot and my stomach dropped just riding up there, The way I make my anxiety go away is watching czrtoons about injections, It works for me
Thank you for this video. I am sharing it with a very needle phobic friend.
This has really helped me feel more positive about getting shots now and I’m more comfortable when getting it thanks so much 😊😊😊😊😊
I’m so happy to hear this. Thank you for letting me know you found it helpful!
My tips are to:
Breath normally
Relax your arm
Wiggle your fingers
Concentrate on the details of a picture or a sign
Dont look
I had this nice doctor give me those tips, i honestly didnt even realize she was done
Thank you for sharing this! I’m sure it will be encouraging for others. Also, congratulations on sticking to it and overcoming your fear! 🙌
I have a fear of needls because I have to do injections myself, its sk much worse when i have to push it in.
I’m only 12 years old but I have fear of needles and I’m gunna get one on November 20 and my parents are gunna. Force me to go and my sister
my entire life I’ve had crippling trypanophobia.
Excellent points, thank you for sharing this!

My old GI told me that it's just a physiological reaction some people have to it and that it's not always an emotional or psychological response. :)

Pass out from them cry about them spent 44 years with hardly a prick
Then I did hypnosis and I stopped drinking and I’m not afraid of needles anymore!
My dr draws my blood without that heroine rubber band which is really what I don’t like the most
So he doesn’t put the rubber on me and it feels like nothing at that point
And hypnosis really worked for me
talk to someone about something your really interested in it helps keep you distracted

These techniques work! Tell the people at the clinic you are nervous, they can help ease the process - it will be over so fast! Treat yourself after!

I always suck a candy when taking vaccine it helps for distraction
I took my older friend Kayla Williamson and squeezed her hand and she just talked to me and said that I got it and I lay my head on her shoulder and started crying so bad and she said that I would be ok and she said that she was proud of me even though I got scared and I had to squeeze her hand and she said I got it and she was very supportive to me when I was scared about the shot and Kayla Williamson said that I would be ok and that I could get through it she said to look at me and I did and I still got scared for the shot and I did it and I did cry but I did it and she said that we could do something fun after I got done with my shot but I got worried and she said that I got it and she said that I would I could do it and she said to just relax my arm and look away from the shot and I did it and she said we get to go get ice cream and she said that I would be ok and I did it and she said that I could cry on her shoulder and then I started crying on her shoulder and she said that I was ok and Kayla Williamson said I would be alright but I did it
Mam i am from Bangladesh 🇧🇩.The day after tomorrowi is my vaccination date.. I am very afraid of injection.Thats why i am watching the video..
I have needle phobia, how do i over come having to inject myself. I cant do it.
@@FriendlyPharmacy5 thank you so much … yes it is helpful. I will reach out tomorrow for further support. .
Nothing worked but my dad helps me
I am ok with injections but taking blood is another thing it has to be my right arm they usually get the vein first time but my left arm that is another matter its jab jab jab until they give up and use the other arm.
I'm the exact same. I don't have a fear of needles, injections, and even IVs are fine for me, but any time I'm having blood drawn it's like a 50/50 chance I'll end up nearly passing out. lol.
Jud keep looking at his eyes 👀 friction help
Tabby taking down ful shot 😊
2025 and hpv vaccine is coming up for me I’m petrified never had an injection since being a baby
I look away from the nedie and I think about happy thoughts)
why not to look? im such a moron that i wont know what u do if i dont see it or...?
Sorry this didn't work for me. My fear has increased year by year and it's now over 10 years since my last injection. I advised the doctors' staff that anyone who comes at me with a needle is going to get the cr*p beaten out of them. They now don't even ask me to have an injection even to take bloods. I'm fine with most other medical procedures, mind you I refuse to have any internal examinations e.g. prostate exam, etc.
Sorry to hear. Some people have found CBT to be helpful when other things have failed!
Yes, true. The thing I'm most worried about is that we may need this once every five months until the end of time.
I know right! Part of my phobia is the lack of feeling in control. When they twist my arm over it by pointing out that it could be worse so better hurry up, just makes me panic.
I took my friend Megan with me
Im 15 but still it dos not work i yust run or hit sombody and it feels sad
I have to always have my loving wife go with me.
i just dont get one
Deep breathing helps me
Me too!
If they faint you win...
i can try to overcome it but its too hard to overcome still iam fear of needles i'm just 16🤕🤕😅😅
depending on a vaccination I fear the AFTER pain WAY more than the couple seconds of little discomfort dang an instant immune response can ache for days! I would take dozens of injections in a row rather than that! lol just saying
Extra tip? Pun intended?
