Would the raytracing and/or path tracing image quality not be as sharp as the raster only image quality if DLSS would be turned off? (providing the hardware is strong enough to pull it's weight without DLSS). I believe that DLSS or (FSR for amd) needs extra sharpening on itself.
Yes if both DLSS and frame generation could be turned off with a playable frame rate it would have equal sharpness. I took some screen shots with both off and they were sharp and beautiful. Both techniques soften the image but are pretty ignorable on their own but I find combined the effect is quite noticeable especially at vertical resolutions below 2160p
The higher the resolution you start with the more info that DLSS/FSR have to make their guess as the what the frame should look like resulting in a sharper presentation. It why you could run an 8k screen using ultra performance and it will be sharper than 4k using Quality.
Path tracing only overworked your GPU as well as hurts your gaming experiences because of low FPS, while making your expensive card mediocre, in short it is not a good investment for game devs visually it is stunning but it will hurt the gamer's pocket in the end how will they profit on that if gamers cannot afford to buy 4090? So raster still a the best choice for now and the foreseeable future. AMD understood this, that is why they will not go down that path because they are trying their best to have their cards be sold upto $999 only.
Path tracing is definitely still squarely in the future tech bucket. I think some smart implementations of the standard ray tracing model can provide a great experience without being too penalizing. I think by the time the full next gen of consoles comes out, Path racing might be the primary way of lighting.
Thanks for another great vid
thanks, glad you liked it.
I'm interested in the 3440x1440 and 3840x1600. Keep up the good work 👏
Thanks
Great work, as always! Thank you for doing these!
Thanks, it's my pleasure.
Great comparison video. I really appreciate it.
Thanks
Yay… he’s back!
Back from my trip and ready to get some videos done.
Try the Ray Tracing mod on Nexus Mods - big frame rate boost on both Nvidia and AMD cards
if I have some time later I'll give it a look.

@@ultrawidetechchannel Interesting, I did not know that the sharpness with DLSS/FSR would be so much different at lower resolutions.
