@Mark Fox because these videos help you get a better understanding of what each setting does, differences in graphics, and how it impacts performance, all in a video format. And it's quicker to watch a 10 minute video than testing every single setting yourself. Not everyone has the time for that. I'll happily pay him a little bit of money to test more games and at the same time support the creator for what he does. This isn't easy work
The fact you can give examples between different hardware-bound scenarios is extremely useful for someone like me. And also gives me confidence in your testing methodology that you can say and show that.
Just a small heads-up, settings that increase the resolution of shadows or textures, might not seem to have an impact on performance at first, but these settings will increase the amount of VRAM used, so if you're running low on VRAM (On a GPU with 4GB or 6GB for instance), you'll get more stutters while playing if you're capping the VRAM usage. RT Shadows will also add Variable Penumbra to directional shadows. This means that the shadow of an object that is far away from the point where the shadow is being casted into will look soft, while objects that are near the point where the shadow is being casted will look sharp. This makes a big difference in most areas in the game, specially around skyscrapers. There's a similar rasterization technique for that called PCSS (Percentage-Closer Soft Shadows) which doesn't requires Ray-tracing, but sadly CDPR never implemented this.
Yeah, and I believe AMD has PCHS but I’m not sure if that’s better / worse. The last game I remember seeing both in was GTA V. Great port IMO, and I think holds up for being a port compared to a native PC/Console development.
Very helpful, although I've usually found I've been able to turn textures up as high as I want in basically any game with only 6 GB of vram. I wonder if maybe they just load fast enough that I don't notice at 60 fps.
Really appreciate the hard work and the long hours that this took. Thank you so much. BTW, really love how you separated everything into groups. Works well that way and all Benchmark videos from everyone should be like that going forward. You have revolutionized the genre.
In this game, I updated DLSS from 2.4.3 to 2.5.1, use the NVIDIA Image Scaling sharpness filter and downloaded a texture mod from Hulk Hogan, now thanks to your settings I have raised the DLSS (4K) level from performance to balance and the picture has become even cleaner, without significant loss of quality! Thank you for what you are doing!
What GPU are you using to play this in 4k? I waited to play this game cause I want to play it in 4k RT. Which is one reason why I waited to play this game, plus bug fixes from launch.
@@Xilent1 I have a laptop based on the 3080, it is similar in performance to the dextopic 3070, but with 16GB of video memory. There can be no question of any RT. All I can hope for is a smooth 60 FPS with these optimized settings + DLSS on balance, without RT. I have seen tests where even 4090 on ULTRA+RT PSYCHO without using DLSS gives ~45 FPS. I recommend waiting for Overdrive Mode for Cyberpunk 2077, buy 4090 (if the budget allows), use these optimized settings + DLSS.
@@Xilent1 For RT 4K you can only play with a nvidia card. And you gonna need a lot of VRAM (at least 16 GB imo). There is only the 4080 or 4090 to consider as of today (3090 and 3090 ti need to lower settings and RT too much). You gonna have to play with DLSS even with a 4090, DLSS + Frame Generation with a 4080, buy a 144hz 4K Monitor and optimize a bit.
Awesome! This is what the developers should disclose to the players. Thank you. Just one thing, you say sometimes 4% drop in frames when it should be 4 frames dropped. Like at 5:40, it's 4 frames difference, so the math is 4/64, which is 6.25% drop frame percentage.
Yes, man! Please continue to do such videos! I recently bought 3060ti and your guides (for Hogwarts for example) helped me to play games at full potential of my gpu. You got my thanks, subscription and like!)
literally yesterday I was checking if you made a video about optimizing cyberpunk xD after your atomic heart optimization video only you could save me on this issue, thanks!
This was a perfect way of explaining settings (considering there are so many different variables of hardware). When people know which are the big performance hitters, people can adjust accordingly. Please keep it up. (Subscribed)
You already said it but it's very important, this game can go from GPU to CPU bound territory really quick depending of where you're located on the map. With my 5600x and 3080 I see only 10 fps of difference with all rtx stuff cranked up VS off when I'm in cpu bound place like outside V appartement, if I do the same test in less crowded street the fps difference go up to like 40 fps. I suggest everyone to really take this into account while tuning your settings, don't tune them in busy place, find a spot where you get GPU bound and only then go to a crowded place to fine tune
5:32 One thing you might point out if you do other videos on settings with field of view. Wider field of view does allow you to see more of what's going on to the left and right...BUT there is a cost. The higher you set your field of view, the further away objects directly in front of you appear. Personally, I like 80-85% is where I like it best. 100% is far too warped. LOVE your guide, and it's been a great tool for me to optimize the settings to my hardware.
Here is someone who has an rx 6600 and a ryzen 7 5700g, with this configuration I was able to achieve stability at 70 or 85 maximum fps, before in areas with a lot of load it dropped to 55 fps, it is a change and a quite satisfactory configuration, thank you very much
brother. ive followed your steps in gta 5 now cyberpunk. i will say it proudly. you are the best in when it comes to optimizations. habibi .. you are so frkn under-rated. salam.
Looked for this, because the Digital Foundry video is a bit outdated. You did an amazing job! The only thing that would make it even better is, if you put your optimized settings into the video description 😁
Dude, thanks. I had been looking for a way to optimize this game. At first it was buggy. But now it's super smooth. These settings work great, especially with dlss.
Thanks a lot, I was searching for videos like this. You are the best. You helped me with using my 8GB vram 3070Ti for the time I have to wait till I can buy a new GPU. Now I can enjoy my games with more fps without losing to much visual quality.
Thanks, one of the best tuts for settings. One recommendation, on the comparison screens, could you add the name of the setting? For example for the Hard hitters, a person could look at the different settings and what they are getting , but forgot which setting it was. Hope this makes sense. Basically the name of the setting on same screen shot
Awesome guide, thank you for making it. I had to turn down my textures to low with ray tracing on in order to fit under the 8 gigabyte memory on my video card.
Great guide! I'd like to add that running the game in borderless instead of fullscreen seemed to make a huge difference in performance for me. Much less stuttering, especially while driving through the city as the game loads in new assets.
Bro i just discovered your channel by your witcher 3 optimisation vid. And I absolutely love your work! I cannot imagine how many hours of testing every one of us would do or even give up if we didnt have you in our gaming community
I agree with everything except the DLSS. On Native resolution I found the TAA is better especially for far distance objects and I don't know why but the frame rate seems to be more stable.
Was waiting for this, thanks a lot I really wish you do more Optimization Guides for other games like (hitman, Horizon Zero Dawn, Jedi Fallen Order…) while waiting for new games to come out.
