    I bought the pro version MP2 and thought i was a bit jerky so i went to B@q [home depo] and bought 20mt of bungee rope and wrapped it around frame and motion frame both ends and now it pretty smooth. to try to work out what springs to get would have being impossible. but bungee has 18kg of strength so keep wrapping or un wrapping to your desire. and tie wrap it up and looks very tidy.

    Hey man, thanks for the review. I already own the SRS Shakers and some button boxes. I have a couple questions if you have the answers. :)
    1-Does it gets tiring in longs oval where where the turns are banked?
    2-Did you try with the shakers at the same time? Does it make using the shakers useless?
    3-Did you try in VR? Does it tend to make you sick more than without the motion platform? Does it feel realistic?

      That was a good choise, I just got the M2 and there is a lot of slack in the gearboks, most in the left one. This is also when it is powerd on : -( so my seat is very loose and i can move it about 2.5 cm from side to side and the same forwards og backwards. The right side can move about half. Dof are trying to help, but i think that the gearboks are made all to loose.

  • @JnAPhotography

    From this review and through others and some reading it seems to me that this product (and possibly the others in their portfolio) offer great potential in terms of hardware but are kind of let down by the software. With some dampening the unit itself seems like it would perform near the level of the NLR MP V3 hardware-wise. The critical part though is how the motion commands are calculated and executed and this is where the DOF Reality seems to be lagging behind. The jerkiness, and how the motion looks unrefined, and mechanical is probably a combination of the Arduino boards, their firmware and how those are used by Simtools/SRS.
    Another important hit from the software angle is the lack of VR motion compensation. DOF Reality currently seems to be relying on third-party software or hardware hacks to do VR motion compensation. The competition provides this out of the box. It's actually quite straightforward to implement as the system can easily calculate the position/orientation offset (given seat and height parameters). Probably the only challenging part is to integrate it into Stream VR, etc. Nevertheless, it's a big missed opportunity.
    I think I will have to go with the NLR one, because of the above, which sucks because I usually prefer to support the brave, ambitious products like these which offer great value.

    Should build some sort of L-mount to attach the steering wheel directly to chair base. It is not realistic for the distance from steering wheel to change on pitch going up/down hills. Would be easy enough to do and make it much better.

I believe the GTM motion simulator is also a full motion simulator not just a seat mover at or around the same price point as the next level motion simulator . Nice thorough review! I do have a question for you. Why do you use Sim Racing Studio vs Simtools that comes with the DOF reality systems? Currently I'm running the P3 and soon upgrade to P6 but want to know why you are using the SRS instead of simtools. thx!

    • @simracinggarage3026
      @simracinggarage3026  5 років тому +2

      I did use Simtools and it was a bit smoother than when using SRS. SRS is just a much more user friendly GUI. I know they are working together with DOFReality to improve the motion platform control characteristics of the app. If they can get it to work as well as Simtools when controlling DOFReality's motion units, it will be what most would want to use I think. Time will tell.

    I bet that would eliminate the movement of the shoulders/arms vs the steering wheel (which does happen in real-life) while still giving the important information to your butt about the lateral and longitudinal G-Forces.
    I bet that would create a much better illusion of G-Forces, especially with a VR-headset

    Barry, Correct me if I am wrong, but weren't you using a SimXperience stage 4 or 5 cockpit a while back? You seem to have changed cockpit and motion simulator. Would you mind commenting why you changed? Is it to satisfy a vendor commitment or because you like the motion seat better? One item I noticed in this review was lack of noise from the M2 motion platform. I have watched a couple other UA-cam videos that had the speakers turned way down or nearly off. Other motion simulators seemed to make a lot of noise or chatter. It seemed to me that the dampening springs you mentioned were making the noise. Perhaps you could consider saying a bit more in your videos about the noise from the motion simulator. I really enjoy your videos !

    From every video I've seen of DOFReality seat-movers (the little amount there are), the movements not only seem laggy but as if they don't have fidelity and accuracy. It'a like they either fully move or don't move at all. The movements also don't seem to be able to handle the depth and fidelity of all sorts of different g-forces, body movements, bumps, etc. The movements seem very vague and sort-of generic or gimmicky whereas the NLM v3 seems much more truly connected to the car's physics/telemetry.
