This is amazing work! As a professional game designer, I really appreciate what you did. Some suggestions: - Consider the ergonomics of the controller - smoother edges, firmer grips, like in an Xbox or PS controller. This will enhance the gaming experience. - Consider 3D printing a small, lightweight steering wheel assembly for your desk with a quick release option. You can research quick release adapters from Thrustmaster or ones used for camera tripods. You can have the quick release system permanently attached to your desk - snap in the steering wheel, connect via USB and you're done! Just keep in mind this will be less durable than a normal attachment :)
Agree. This is amazing was my first thought but my second thought was, Carpal Tunnel. Along with the overall ergonomics, I'd suggest "R" and "L" buttons for the index fingers to be used for shifting, and maybe a repositioning of the camera joystick. Super cool work, well done!
it is quite uplifted, so it would definetly hurt the hand in the future due to height but also from ux-side - moving the 4 buttons somewhere to center would be way better, cuz people would probably missclick on them while playing also i would like to curve the pedals themselves to better fingerpositioning
I've always thought that the steering wheel was used for people who wanted to have the feeling of a real wheel in their hands. But it's pretty great to propose a more convenient solution. Now it needs the force feedback ! Keep up the good work man ! huge support from France !

well, you've got me blown away honestly, I love all racings games, that's the missing piece, I don't want to drag out the whole racing wheel setup for some arcade driving. Respect.
This guy solves us the most concerning problem we had ever faced having a steering wheel NINE HUNDRED DEGREES using materials which are indeed cheap. Great job man:) Fun fact u (could if you want) also add gear shifting like how on the Ps4 there is the R2 and R1 you could make something similar like that but the upper (R2) would change up a gear and the down (R1) will down one gear. And at the L1 you could have a button for handbrake. All of those are ideas that if they were possible I bet you would be the number 1 competitor against the other companies for racing products. *Anyways you just got a new subscriber*. I am looking forward to seeing where this project would be going.
this is sick. i'd love to see a manual version. could make the controller stand at an angle, add a third pedal and then use two of your fingers on the right hand to have more control over the 3 pedals while using your thumb to change speeds mapped on the smaller red buttons below. although the dimensions of the body would probably need to be slightly changed. idk how comfortable that would be, but just as an idea
ive seen really tiny manual gear shifters (as fidget toys) i dont see why you cant make them a bit bigger and add some sensors to each gear. sequential is probably easier though
There are some types of tow trucks and forklift that have a similar steering wheel to the one on the controller but they have knobs on them that freely rotate. Maybe that would also go well with larger pedals.
@@3dprinterart299hello, maybe try to add the force feedback for the wheel, and to like rotate the wheel maybe "pinch" it with two fingers, like a dj😂.

3:37 the realistic feel comes mostly from force feedback actually, no just the 900 degree range, and that it moves by itself depending on what the wheels are doing
it still makes a huge difference to have a 900 degree wheel vs an analog stick and having the steering wheel in this small handheld controller form is great. I might try to make one myself because I love to play games that could use it but not enough for me to own a steering wheel. I usually just break out the controller when I want to drive a vehicle on PC
this is awesome! I never knew I needed this. The pedals could need some texture like real ones. Probably will build one, try it out and gift to a friend who will appreciate this. Exactly the trouble of setting up a sim wheel is the reason I stick to the gamepad mostly. Very nice work, and video too. Thanks :)

for the 3d printer electricity issue consider getting a pure sine wave online mode UPS, i have a Riello Sentinel Pro 1000 and it's one of the best purchases i've ever made, also there are a lot of cheaper ones that you can find, just make sure that the output power is enough and that the brand is a good one.
@@Justgreen89925 WTF you need gasoline for??? You charge the car battery by mains grid while there is electricity. I think a 3D printer needs more power than an "UPS" for PC can deliver. At least the sort I know are used in offices only to safely shutdown the PC without data loss, so it has only enough power to run a desktop PC for perhaps 15 or 30 minutes. Of course also huge UPS battery cabinets for keeping a whole data center online during power fail exist. But I don't expect that this is stuff average people in Iraq have access to or can afford. Lead-acid car batteries from junkyard are most common where weight doesn't matter.
@@cyberyogicowindler2448 I thought you meant an old car battery with a generator. Also your method is pretty unreliable since a battery+inverter solution can't switch from Bypass to offgrid like an ups can, and a 3d printer like his won't use more than 300w which a pc ups can very well supply
@@Justgreen89925 For uninterrupted transition between mains and car battery, you may simply mix DC outputs of both power supplies through big diodes into the PC. Honestly this seems like a pretty great alternative for people who cant afford a whole expensive set up, and would rather purchase a smaller, less complicated controller!
Think ideas like this existed a long time ago problem is no big companies want to make a mass produced product as they don't know how much demand there would be.
The tooling and manufacturing of this wouldn't be expensive. Made of Simple shapes and common components. Wouldnt cost much to develop into a product thus it could be a niche item
Seeing someone finally reaching their goals step by step, getting better everyday is so cool. I can't imagine how hard it was and how much effort yop put in this thing, it's insane! I'm very proud of you, and maybe you should add gear box and clutch?
This concept is probably the best one I've seen for handheld alternatives to wheel setups, and far less convoluted than some other projects I've been keeping track of. If I could offer some advice, consider adding bumpers where your index finger sits so you can have manual transmission support. I don't know how you would intuitively add a clutch and ebrake but the core design is fantastic!
A scroll wheel for your index fingers to adjust view would probably be better than a joystick (Left wheel to look left/right, right wheel for up/down). Then you wouldn't need to take your thumb off the steering as much
Great work bro! We have electricity problems here too (a city with a population of 2 million+ in Turkey). In bad times, it goes out 2-3 times a day. Ohh that's amazing. So cool. Props on doing it with the power outages. If anyone else is dealing with it, try printing parts in pieces. Certain printers can remember where they were, but if the powera out too long youd probably need to preheat and maybe force extrude for a bit.
I am not a big fan of racing games but a big fan of weird controllers. I will build this just for fun and definitely try it and play racing games. This looks epic! Mash'Allah brother
Dude, YES ! yes ! That wheel-knob is all we ever needed for actual driving games. Keyboard/Gamepads are almost useless for precise steering. If I were them, I would make a modular gamepad. Where you could pluck a set of pads and replace with diverse control options (including this knob-wheel). Also make it infinitely easier to fix/replace broken parts.
Nice one. I have a suggestion: Put the pedals to the back as bumbers, just like we have in a normal controller. Right for accelerate and left for breaks. Put the wheel a little up to the middle of the controller. Then put the camre stick under the right thumb.
This is absolutely phenomenal, you bridged the gap between controllers and steering wheels and I'd love to see what other designs you can come up with, the old ridge racer controller esque would be amazing :) well done good sir!
I decided to look into the idea of this a long while ago, however slightly different. I used Mouse Steering for many PC racing games and really enjoyed it, so I wanted to attach 2 "pedals" to the mouse in place of the LMB and RMB buttons normally found on a mouse, so I could throttle and brake with analog control. This controller you made is pretty amazing!
Great project! Thanks a lot for sharing! Some ideas for the next iteration: put the joystick where you can reach it with your left (or right) index finger, so you don't have to take your thumb away from the controls. Also add a "camera reset" button.
Such a good way of getting all of the features you need for a racing game in such a small and easy to use controller - a few suggestions if you're thinking of making any future upgrades: Repositioning the joystick so you can steer and move the camera at the same time with different fingers Adding a few more buttons/triggers where peoples fingers will naturally rest for more options and controls Tweaking the form factor so its as ergonomic and good looking as possible
If you find that you're getting too much friction from your thumb when steering, try placing a small bearing under the thumb in the Disc with a joystick head on top. awesome work & design keep up the innovation.
That's an amazing piece of engineering right there. I can give you another idea off thw top of my head - make the camera joystick controlled by something else, like by our head rotation. If you move the head slightly right beyond 5°, then the camera rotates right at a fixed degree/second, the rotation speed increasing by the increase in your head's angle. once you move your head back to center, the view stops rotating. I suppose this will be revolutionary, as you would not need to lift your hands off the steering wheel or the accelerator just to look to the side!
Dude, this is awesome! If you could license this out to a big production company, this would be huge for disabled gamers as well as people who just don't have the space or money for a big simulator setup!

This is amazing, you're amazing, you should try making one that's more ergonomic and has shifter pedals by your index fingers! Again, absolutely love this, keep it going
I love it! I want to buy a 3D printer myself, I would make a few adjustments however. You know the bumpers on the controllers as a "look back" feature, maybe even change out the positioning of the joystick, and make the entire thing more comfortable to hold. I have too many things on my plate right now with an old motorcycle, browsing for cars, new job etc... But I am TAKING NOTES!

This is amazing work! As a professional game designer, I really appreciate what you did. Some suggestions:
- Consider the ergonomics of the controller - smoother edges, firmer grips, like in an Xbox or PS controller.
Super cool work, well done!
it is quite uplifted, so it would definetly hurt the hand in the future due to height
but also from ux-side - moving the 4 buttons somewhere to center would be way better, cuz people would probably missclick on them while playing
also i would like to curve the pedals themselves to better fingerpositioning
I've always thought that the steering wheel was used for people who wanted to have the feeling of a real wheel in their hands. But it's pretty great to propose a more convenient solution. Now it needs the force feedback ! Keep up the good work man !
huge support from France !
I'm a mechatronics engineer and must say that you did a really good job with this project! Keep it up and you will certainly make your dreams come true!
This is genius, stunning work. You put big companies to shame for barely cinsidering what people would love to use and have.
This looks really cool! You could also add some gear shifter buttons on the top where your index fingers sit or on the back
i had the SAME idea when watching it, omg
custom paddle shifters!!
R2 eBrake
Flappy paddle shifters are the only thing that's missing, and a clutch pedal for the super hardcore gamers.
Add a second joystick to act as a manual gear shifter
well, you've got me blown away honestly, I love all racings games, that's the missing piece, I don't want to drag out the whole racing wheel setup for some arcade driving.
Thank you for the idea
ive seen really tiny manual gear shifters (as fidget toys) i dont see why you cant make them a bit bigger and add some sensors to each gear. sequential is probably easier though
At first I thought this looked like poorly thought out idea. Now I see how's much better it is than a standard controller and think it just needs some fine tuning. Great job!! I hope to see more!
A seriously good 3D printer project that actually solves a problem. Looks great. Well done.

I'm not sure why the youtube algorithm took me here but I am glad it did.
Incredibly inspiring seeing a creation like this and especially so when considering the obstacles you faced. Amazing work!
Dude, this is SO smart! I would buy one of these, for sure! I stopped playing racing games, because I hate joypads, keyboards are unrealiable for this type of games and gaming steering wheel controllers are junky and I like to play on my couch, while relaxing. You're amazing, my friend! Best regards from a new brazilian fan of your work.

Or get an old car battery with power inverter.
@@cyberyogicowindler2448 nahh, you will need to use a good quality inverter while wasting gasoline. It will be much more expensive in my opinion
This is nothing elegant, but it is hard to imagine what is available at all at the end of the world. (I think of tinkers from German Democratic Republic, those also had to hack together all kind of strange stuff they couldn't buy anywhere.)
Wow... You've managed to go further than multimillionaire and billion dollar companies do... I commend you for your creativity. Hopefully you can make this worldwide because I REALLY WANT ONE!!
Then look for the Forza Horizon Xbox Controller with steering wheel
i m not an arduino specialist, but you don t need an ADC (analog to digital converter) for the joystick ?? (at 3:42)
Arduino has ADC built in
Some joystick modules come with ADC built-in and communicate via i2c/SPI to the Arduino.
Either way most Arduino boards come with a 12bit(?) ADC.
@@ND15X yeah. Here it’s a regular 5pins joystick. Requires a proper Adc. Good to know arduino has built in Adc (it can be tricky to setup). Unlike raspberry4.

Proud of you bro.
I'm glad we have such creative content creator from our country. Well done bro.
@ajman66 Yeah but do niche products bring in money?
Who needs off-the-shelf when you can custom-build the ultimate racing controller? Sounds like a win!
Then you wouldn't need to take your thumb off the steering as much
Thanks for your idea
I thought of h shifter on the front right side (face button)
Honestly I would suggest having a standard joystick for the right thumb, and moving the pedals to the back in a trigger position.

Dude, YES !
مبدع يا علاوي‼️‼️🔥🗣
This controller you made is pretty amazing!
very good idea too
Awesome build. Pedals on the top as triggers and i am sold.
Great project! Thanks a lot for sharing! Some ideas for the next iteration: put the joystick where you can reach it with your left (or right) index finger, so you don't have to take your thumb away from the controls. Also add a "camera reset" button.
Such a good way of getting all of the features you need for a racing game in such a small and easy to use controller - a few suggestions if you're thinking of making any future upgrades:
Repositioning the joystick so you can steer and move the camera at the same time with different fingers
Adding a few more buttons/triggers where peoples fingers will naturally rest for more options and controls
Tweaking the form factor so its as ergonomic and good looking as possible
If you find that you're getting too much friction from your thumb when steering, try placing a small bearing under the thumb in the Disc with a joystick head on top.
awesome work & design keep up the innovation.
This mans asking the real questions! We need more controllers like this
found this video randomly popped up, glad I watched it. Keep creating man this is pretty sick
I suppose this will be revolutionary, as you would not need to lift your hands off the steering wheel or the accelerator just to look to the side!
dude hear me out, this is nuts, if you keep improving this and making videos you are going biigg
