    Thanks for the great review, I noticed that in the DOF
    Reality site that the upgrade and the Consumer and Professional H3 models don’t
    show the urethane wheels as part of the yaw mechanism. It would be a shame if
    this feature is not available, it would seem that the wheels in combination
    with th dampers offered would be key factors to smoothing the overall motion of
    the unit.

    As always, excellent content Barry! I recently purchased the DOF Reality H3 following your review. It was quite a process to put it together. I had to adjust a total of 7 mismatched holes in many of the steel beams and sections with a file. They were off up to 5mm, and thus impossible to be assembled without adjustments. Even at this low price point I was quite disappointed. It’s done now, and I’m looking forward to trying it out when my OMP Champ seat finally arrives.

      I highly recommend to replace the original wheelstand as it is much too weak and has too much flex, especially with a heavy wheelbase. It has also very limited for positioning the base to your demands. I replaced mine with a set of aluminium profiles (around 80$)... much more sturdy and infinite possibilities for setting the right height/angle etc. Also, the pedal plate has flex as well (@scott: certainly NOT solid as a rock, my previous RS1 seat was much more robust). That could be solved with attaching wires between the plate-wheelstand-seatframe.

    Been running my H3 for about 2 weeks now. This thing truly is awesome once properly tuned. Just added a couple bass shakers to it yesterday which really ups the immersion. Combined with VR, I'm at a level of realism I never expected to reach. Couldn't be happier.
    The profile is thin though, so expect flex, especially at the wheel deck. I added a few supports to it and it's now handling my 12nm DD just fine. I've actually seen a guy mount a full 8020 rig on top of it too! That said, I'd certainly recommend buying if considering.

      Paul Riccobene did you consider the h6? Do you think you are happy with h3 or will you consider upgrading?

    • @paulriccobene
      @paulriccobene 4 роки тому +4

      @@macarollo I seriously considered the H6. My thought was to just go all in as I really wanted the full 6 dof, plus it's like a $600 savings over upgrading later. But after talking with some existing owners, most feel 6 dof was ideal for flight, while 3 dof for driving. Based on those discussions, and my wallet, I went H3. Now that I have it, I don't regret my decision at all. I don't know how different the 6 feels compared to this, and I know you lose out on true surge/heave, but I don't think it's something I'll ever worry about upgrading to anymore. Inside VR this is super impressive, and I'm gonna agree with others that the rear traction loss of the H3 might be the ideal setup for driving. If you don't have the cash for the 6, I wouldn't even hesitate to go for the 3. It's beyond good. ;)
      Feel free to ask any other questions. I have a few short videos of it up on my sim channel too.

  • @ueehurstonsecurity8887
    @ueehurstonsecurity8887 4 роки тому +1

    Barry are your arms that strong/defined from working out with weights? or is that just a side effect from using a direct drive wheel? i feel like the power of the strong wheels would really strengthen your arms over time. is that how you got so much definition in your arms? If your wheel is responsible for it, that is just an awesome bonus to getting a DD wheel that i never considered.
    Edit: sorry for asking such a basic and pointless question after you put so much time into this video; and that's all i can say for it at the end, i really really loved the content and i watch every minute of it. but that was just something i noticed, and it seems every youtuber with a DD has that muscular Definition in their arms, even jimmy broadbent. so I'm curious if those wheels are doing that, my CSW 2.5 just doesn't have enough strength to do that. it has increased my grip strength tremendously but that's about it. My hands used to ache on long sessions and now they do not. I have the money for a DD wheel but my chassis isn't strong enough for one so every little thing matters right now in making my decision to buy a DD and new chassis. I would be purchasing equipment that has the SRG approval only, and generally speaking you get what you pay for and SRG has proved that time and time again. so this investment wouldn't be a budget build that ide be doing.
    If it will make my arms stronger that's a big positive aspect. i never enjoy working out but i love sim racing from beginning to end, so it might make arm day a fun day rather than a chore. if DD wheel=Stronger arms then that means DD wheel=better health and that's a huge buying point for a guy like me. Anyway i know you cant respond or even read every comment, there simply is too many. So if you read this Barry or anyone, thank you for your time. Perhaps another DD wheel owner will read this and tell me their experience with their arm strength in relation to getting the new DD wheel and ill get to the bottom of this question!
    Thanks! - your subscriber Mike. Y

    Seems like a nice compact solution although it would be hard for me to go for such a fixed rig from a 80/20 profile rig that's very flexible and sturdy. One thing that rig still misses is a GS5 seat for the longer duration G-Force effects.
    A good sim racing setup is basically like having a good 4-way speaker with proper separation of frequency ranged effects...
    Tactile = Tweeter
    FFB Wheel = High-Mids
    Motion rig = Low-Mids

    I'm really looking forward to buy either the H3 or P3, but can't decide if its worth spending the $ plus. In the sheet on the website it says P3 has 40° motion and the h3 only 20°. What does that mean? Since that is a big difference, it might be the point to make a final decision.
    The rig might gets used at maximum of 2 to 3 hours a day, since it is a shared project. Is that enough to go for the better durability of the p3 motors? As far as I found info, the motors don't make a noticavle difference during use. Its just they're supposed to last longer.
    Thank you and sorry for the long post 😅

    Question for any motion platform users...
    Is the real motion synced to the visuals on screen? For example, in this video, it appeared that the real life motion didn't correspond to the cockpit graphics. And would vr be the same?

  • @bupamania
    @bupamania 2 роки тому

    Hi and thank you for the video! Do you have experience between de h3 and p3? It says on the website, that the p3 has 40°motion while the h3 only has 20°. I wonder if you notice that difference during racing since the p3 gives you the double rom when I understand it right.

    The P3 has higher range of motion, speed, and torque for not much more money. Do you plan to review that unit and can you make a recommendation of pedals and steering wheel units to make that the best rig? Really appreciate your feedback and testing and am leaning toward this unit ( 6’2” 250) and would like your opinion.

    Barry; how would you compare something like this H3 setup against a four-post motion such as the SRTmotion, which comes in at a really decent price point for 250mm/s. In looking at 'cheaper' systems, where does the most benefit lie - in more inputs (albeit lower quality) or more accurate, smoother responses.

    I'm thinking about going with the H3 but I'm not sure if I want to bite the bullet and just go with the P3 system. I know the bigger motors would be good but not sure if it's worth the extra money. 🤔

    Thanks for the review Barry. With some moderate fabrication skills, do you think it'd be easy to make some adjustments to the rig to make the pedals adjustable for leg length and a tilt axis for the steering wheel? I know you only review the stock setups, but just to gauge your thoughts for those seeking flexibility.

    Did you have to make new threads for those holes that got powder-coating on them? We see you using the tap by hand during the video, but then there's a clip where you're using a cordless drill and what looks like the same kind of tap. I don't know anything about machining so I can't figure out what you do with a drill and a tap. I thought you had to do it all pretty slowly. I love your videos. I don't know what kind of preamp or filter you're using, but the fuzzy sound is great.

    Hi Barry!
    I am going to be taking delivery of my HPP-JBV pedals in the next few weeks. Could you make a "five-minute-quickie" video of your 1010 pedal mounting solution, please? I am not sure of all of the brackets you are using and the required lengths of 1010 to use. I am considering using 1530 on the front and back and 1515 on the sides (just one layer of extrusion) and that will be sufficient to give the pedals a strong enough base so that they do not move on me. Thanks in advance if you can respond to this request (written or a video).

First time I tried a car like a ferrari or other car I was stunned in the way I thought I was goin to lose control of the car especially in vr ur mind can be easier to trick in vr as ur senses are heightened. I'd say for single monitor the motion isn't as immersive but not tried triples screen. Honestly for how much the h3 costs its not a toy even tho it's in the lowest bracket of motion technology well worth £2000 all day long.

    I think 2DOF motion platforms for sure may add immersion to sim but are not providing information for driving; the 3rd DOF shall make the difference in understanding when you lose the rear that is really what you get too late relying only on screen and wheel (at least me) . Said so, can be used solely this 1DOF making your seat or rig yaw? Never saw such application, but I think I'd definitively give it a try.
