Hey mate , I too live in a van , do exactly the same as you and try to move around and not piss people off , just an idea but if van people remember to keep the area clean and tidy and leave no bags of rubbish is a good tip to keep the public on side , respect costs nothing ;-)

Hi Simon I live in the Lake District and to be quite honest a lot of your counterparts are doing you no favours. They are leaving rubbish lighting fires tipping their toilets out in lay bays and car parking areas leaving places in a disgraceful mess. These mindless idiots are ruining it for us all and are sure to get harsh restrictions placed in some great park ups. Local residents myself included are sick of this and are being forced to push for tough restrictions on van lifers. I am a van person myself and I find this most annoying that our beautiful Lake district is being destroyed by these mindless scum bags.

@@robinbanks183 I agree totally and could talk for hours about this , have been a long distance lorry driver for 26 I have seen the exact same thing for where we park lorries , the massive rise of lorries in this country has caused the same problem , we are sometimes being forced to pay up to £40 per night just to stop for 9 hours . Also apps like park for night and search for site to name but 2 are kind of filtering people to the same spots therefore compounding the problem more . It was my retirement plan to bank as much cash as I could then tour the uk at my speed , But like you I can already see it being not feasible in the future . And for the record I side with you on this one and all local people .

Thanks a lot for taking the trouble to film your searches for a park up, I find it really helpful and seeing you do it gives me extra confidence that I'll be able to do the same when my time comes.
I find your vids really helpful and you come across as a really decent guy. The safefill gas bottle is a brilliant shout, I didn't even know they existed, and also those extra taps in petrol stations.
One thing that I wanted to ask you (and anyone else) about is whether you would consider a van conversion, so that you wouldn't be quite so obvious.
I still haven't fully decided whether to get a van conversion rather than coachbuilt. I don't need a full-on stealth van as such, but a big coachbuilt seems to me like a bit of a magnet for the wrong kind of attention. Eg a pair of passing drunks might think it funny to knock on your window at 2am and spoil your nights sleep, whereas a van conversion wouldnt really come on their radar.
I have a theory that because you sleep during the day on most weekdays, you miss out on a lot of the late night mischief makers and drunks, but thats just a guess of course.
You've been fine and it suits your current needs, but my personal preference might be to sacrifice some living space to gain more anonymity and less attention.

Hi Darren. Great video again mate. I'm thinking when I'm doing this later on in the year I'll prefer more countryside stops, ie lay-by's, like you mention. I'll have a dog with me so that would make more sense. If you were getting desperate for a spot I would think an industrial estate would be a good bet as they tend to be pretty flat. Use Google maps to find your places and save fuel/time. Hope you're enjoying Thailand bud. Cheers, Ian.

Enjoy the vids I’ve done off grid Uk stealth overnighting fit up to a month at a time . It’s all about confidence . I use a van so it’s more stealth . Observations for me are . Ppl in the Uk don’t get the rv street parking thing like in the us and Europe . They think it’s campsites or nothing , pp in the Uk think they own the road outside thier house . My big two things are not in residential areas and one night one place and not return for one week so if you work local you just have 7 locations . It’s keeps the vehicle moving as you go work it allows you charge batteries full water etc

This life's good, with not many bills, but just not easy to get parked up in peace, one way or another, getting away from noisy traffic, and not drawing attention to yourself, if youv got lights on, and loud music, people will notice, the best chance of not getting hassled is being in the back, curtains closed, and people don't know if anyone's in the van, so not worth bothering with, again if they know someone's in, big chance of hassle.

@@TheUrbanMotorhome are you mainly down south, I'll be honest I'm skilled at it been doing it on and off for 25 yrs, and had all kinds of hassle, from a roadworks cone put under my gearbox, after a few days somewhere, and mostly hassle from younguns if I've even searched out places back of beyond, sometimes I've just got up and moved, rather than start a war with them, the best one i ever had for bizzare was when i first split up with an old girlfriend in Birmingham, i searched out a great place down a lane, an actual parking space dead end, to a little bridge over a river, a walled and gated Manor, and nobody could do anything because it was a public, car park, bin and everything, till the Lord of the Manor got on it, he brought a cannon by the gate of Manor near me, and said this will go off, all night till your gone, and it will keep half of Solihull up too, lol, obviously i went, there was no chance of sleep, lol. Youv been lucky, extremely, but i don't know your full strategy how many days you stay in one place, but again, i find it very hard, like also round Blackpool the council have been very clever, boxing off a lot of places, near hotels, a bye law, with a car sign, only cars park round here, and on prom it's 24 hr charging, and lots of car parking restrictions, make it hard, I've parked in that area at the end of a normal road and the two old people at the end of the road, both gave me daggers, when I moved open blinds at night watching, I've been past since, and always closed, I've even been hassled by police, and though they can't do too much, they did try and threaten me with my motors sposed to be parked at home overnight for ins purposes, and there nearly rite, but I've got business go to work anywhere ins.

I see a motorhome the other day with hydraulic legs that came down from underneath to level it out... Could hardly notice them..
Don't know how much they are but reckon they'll be perfect for stealth camping...
    Thinking about it. 💭
. I'm going to look into it wouldn't mind them on mine.

Hi I have them at the rear on my morphine they were rotten when I tried them out so had them replaced with caravan legs which you can buy of eBay need height from under the van to the rd I got mine welded on to chassis but i Think you can get bolt on ones for through the floor other option you could use axle stands all the best

The ones I see where operated from inside.. Push a button and up you go. Possibly electric and hydraulic Jack's/ Rams... Could make a lot more hilly roads more usable...

They can do you for drunk in charge, Never have the keys on you, hide them away from van, if they tell you to move on you can't. Its a real grey area

@@Superfandangoo no it's not a grey area, i used to tour with football crew on the piss, in my camper, even stayed on nightclub car parks, never had trouble with police, i checked with a Sargeant in a nick, and he said as long as keys arnt in ignition, and as long as your in the leasure part of the van, behind curtain or whatever, you could Google the question.

If a person, you in this case, or me in a future time, lives in a vehicle,( motorhome, van), and not a building (house), then that person does not have an address. So how does the DVLA have you registered if there isnt an address? What prompted me to ask was that I saw you pass by a Speed Camera sign, and I thought if you were speeding where would they send the fine to? there's no address!! It was quite funny once on a 'Carolyn's RV life' video, she had to sign in at a public building and she put name as 'Carolyn' and her address as 'Everywhere'. Seriously tho, how can you register your vehicle if you don't live at an address? Alan, UK.

Why do you need it to be flat surface ?

    • @Sarge084
      @Sarge084 5 років тому +2

So everything is level inside the motorhome and the water runs to the plughole instead of gathering in the corner. Water heater and fridge need to be level for the gas flame to work efficiently.
