Could you do a video on the pro and cons on the differences between motorhomes and campervan and which ones you think are a good buy. Thanks Darren. PS hope you had a good holiday
Another tip for everyone, please always pull as far forward in a layby as possible and not park in the middle of it. Edit, you just mentioned that very thing😂😂
Those lay-bys are so dangerous especially the ones on the side of the carriageway there is always the risk that someone will plough into the back of you. I’ve seen the aftermath of this and it wasn’t nice. The other safety element is as you said the person security bit. This is where the continent is years ahead the services are brilliant. Come on uk get your act together. Great video thanks
Hi, you are so right about listening to your gut, it’s there for a reason. In my younger days I hitchhiked, worked and camped throughout out Europe. I have slept on the floor in Thessaloniki railway station, behind hedges on the side of the road, on a massive traffic island in Italy to name a few. I always had the same process, get comfortable take 30 minutes or so to acclimatise to the ebb and flow around me. I would only ever wake up when something out of the ordinary occurred, screeching brakes most commonly.
Happy Days, I do the self same thing for several days sometimes weeks at a time. There's a sense of achievement finding a good place and not disturb anyone or indeed be disturbed. Enjoy!
I haven't seen it mentioned and you probably know but many pubs now do motorhome stop overs a lot of which are free if you have a meal in the pub. If you go on the website searchforsites they are shown on their search
mate thank you so much for this !!!! I was going nuts trying to get my head around this (finding parkups) this is great info and solves a couple of probs I'm guessing you could alternate within this area?
Hi Matey My wife and I have a same size ducato motorhome and we love wild camping we did a tour of south Wales for 19 days in August and only stayed on 2 sites . Keep up the great videos take care Dave&Jo
good video. The noise would not worry me too much. But I'd stay away from busy roads like that because of sleeping in the air pollution. If I have to use lay-bys I stick to quieter roads.
We call those "rest stops" in Australia, however, they are a little more off the highway than that one. I'd be worried one of those cars would lose control and slam into me!
We follow the tour de france and end up parking a lot in lay-bys or even on the grass verge and most of the time it's ok, you quickly get used to the traffic noise, or even the motion of the van as the traffic rushes past. We've only had one occasion when someone knocked on the van door in the night, the police, as they wanted to park where we were - the French police eh!
I would never, never stop on this kind of roads, unless in a emergency. Way to dangerous, it just take one car or lorry driver to fell a sleep and it ruines your existence.
Chris Tee ....the problem is that, after you have been driving for hours, if you need to stop to get some kip, and instead take some off ramp into the middle of nowhere....and then have to find somewhere to park and all other kinds of hassle.
I think parking in a layby would scare me a bit. Especially if it was one right next to the road. This one isn't quite so bad. Although for an emergency 'one nighter' it would do - take a chance. Thanks for going through it Darran. Maybe in the future I won't have to check it out myself now.
Useful video. Close the road side windows and open passenger side for air. Trucks are often refrigerated ones and run generators a lot. Trucks get going early so you’ll be woken early. Use earplugs at night or play asmr videos, haha!!
ive been doing uk and europe 25 years. the uk is one of the worst places now to park up .any where around birmingham luton northhampton are a no no theres gangs that just spend all night looking for goodies, and you cant tell the police exacly where you are ,they take ages to find you ,and if your phones been taken you cant even ring them .laybys hiden behind bushes are so bad even lit laybys are shit ,,i was in my bunk in my wagon on the a45 awake 10.30pm, once, and i could here this realy quiete drill drilling my passenger lock ,i put all the the lights on they drove off .i had to put a ratchet strap,,,from my drivers door too my passenger door ....
Mean meaning to ask you this for ages but keep forgetting. Can you park in Motorway services for the night in the hgv bays?. Love you channel, would love to do the same thing but I am married with 3 dogs and wife has 20 plus rabbits/guinea pigs, 2 hamsters and a tortoise so doubt we will be doing it soon 🙄.
Tow a trailer for the animals haha. Think you can sleep in services, i mean theres signs for tiredness kills, take a break. So just say you was tired lol.
hello services in europe are free and sdpottless , parking in hgv in services in the uk is 32 pound a night and dangerouse .and dirty and the srvices most close at midnight ,
Good idea for a future video would be to do a monthly or annual cost of living in a motor home. Your overheads for living sort of speak. Maybe compare it to renting a flat and work out how much your saving compare to those life styles.
Hiya fella subscribed to your channel as i am gonna be a newbie to this van life and i find yr vids insightful keep up the great work fella and well done not fulling arse over tit on that slope..have a cracking week fella

a nice lay-by on a B or minor road, some can be quite picturesque. even had the picnic table out on a nice day
i wish this series had 100 episodes. its pretty entertaining
I’m working on it 😆👏🏼
37 years of hgv driving , laybys were my nightmare of a place to park, the noise and the wind slipstream of other trucks drove me nuts
Its this kind of everyday detail that help make an interesting video, most folks don't include this nitty gritty workaday factual info, Thanks..!

Have you got any sound insulation fitted? I have Dynamat and closed cell foam sound insulation and helps reduce road noise.
Omg the noise 🙉🙉🙉

Awesome video thank you
Just found your channel, enjoying these videos 👍
get extra security for you doors and windows when parked up, slam looks for you front doors try Towsure for your windows and side door
I've parked in many laybys but I try to find one with a partition between me and the road.i don't get bothered by the noise
To me it would be a white noise so would not bother me. Useful tips mate.

Is this an average rest area in the UK!?!? What year is this? 1950? 😂
What's the spider situation like ? Do you get many big ones crawling in and are they difficult to find if they run for it ?
Lay-bys are noisy. Who knew?
How do you manage for water

The air quality would be terrible...
You should get a dog as companion

I am in Canada in a short bus, and have no problems with urban parking in ween USA and Canada
Roads far narrower here i Uk
Hiya fella subscribed to your channel as i am gonna be a newbie to this van life and i find yr vids insightful keep up the great work fella and well done not fulling arse over tit on that slope..have a cracking week fella
Sorry mate but that's not living, it's existing! Especially on your own.
What in a lay-by, yeah that’s not fun at all and I’ve only used lay-by a few times...most of them tend to suck haha
