I think they were not intended to be skate shoes. Most seasoned skaters would look at them and just know they won’t skate well or last. Skate shoe companies do from time to time put out “chill shoe” models that are not typical skate shoe designs. I think this was one of them.
I just got the Hours Is Yours loafers, they feel like they would skate great actually. I think these are marketed to ride on grind skaters and those who do bonelesses everywhere and don't flip their boards.
Watched your Drywall videos for years and randomly stumbled onto your skate videos and it was shocking since I love skating... Now I stumble upon you on a Rose Anvil video. You are everywhere XD
In my experience the best skate shoes are the ones with thinner soles, side walls etc and softer compound out soles/midsoles because you get the best board feel. And the trade off is always that they wear through too quickly. I used to fine that Lakai Bristol’s were really good straight out of the box but would only last a few weeks of continuous skating. The Nike Janoski is probably the best middle ground I’ve found
I’ve noticed this too. Adidas uses a harder rubber which lasts longer but the grip is horrible for honestly almost a week (at least on my copas). I prefer Nike by a long shot. The softer rubber doesn’t last as long but grips and flexes much better. The flex helps with board feel. I’m actually skating some janoskis now and I think I’m finally found my go to skate shoe.
I can't speak to Rose Anvil belts but I have a really heavy duty leather belt that a leather worker friend made for me. I think I paid $90? I've had it for over a decade and it's only gotten better over time. The Rose Anvil belt looks pretty much just like my belt. At the time I bought it to support his new business, but if I had known how valuable a good leather belt is I would have bought it purely for selfish reasons. Leather is an absolutely crazy material. Everybody needs to upgrade their belt to something legit.
I like leather for boots and stuff, but literally anything will work fine for a belt, lol. I have a canvas belt from East Germany and it's also held up fine.
Nice! Definitely a more minimal shoe than the iPath Cats but hey, we got a moc-skate shoe in Moctober. That's what's up! Props for getting these from you local skate shop, Time Machine looks rad. Always best to support the homies 👍
Thanks for the review because I’ve been wondering how these things are constructed and if they’re even skatable. The VM003 and 004 feel better to skate in because they fix that stretching issue but still keep the same general shape. I’d love to see you do one of the New Balance Numeric cupsoles like the 440 V2 or the 600 because I know a lot of people who rave about those shoes.
best pair of skate shoes i've ever owned, and i've actually got to be approaching hundreds of different skate shoes i've gone through, the BEST pair came from a short lived company called dekline. the boardfeel out of the box was fantastic like a vulcanized pair of vans but it had significantly more padding to where my feet were never sore no matter what i was doing. most of the time you have to break in a new pair of skate shoes. make them conform to your feet. but with these ones, right out of the box, coming from a totally different style of shoes, there was no break in period. from day 1 they worked just as great as day 100 they nevere changed. i had to toss them eventually when there was no toe covering left that wasn't a mass of shoe goo. great shoes.
Those immediately remind me of iPath cats shoes I used to have in high school; they had a little stash pocket in the tongue 😎💨 they skated okay I guess.. but they were thicc
Hi, i really like the reviews on materials and construction, keep on making these videos from skate shoes. Im really curious about the new Jamie brand Warsaw, are you getting your hands into them? 🤘
I would love to see you guys cut apart some Vans wafflecup shoes. They are supposedly a cupsole/vulc combo, but I sort of suspect they are just a vulc with a thicker outsole. I got some Crockett highs recently and I love them, certainly thicker soles than half cabs and a good balance between cupsole/vulc feel.
Here's a little tip to use on non resoleable shoes and boots. When your sole starts to separate, apply gorilla glue as needed. I've done this for years. Warever you use it, it will not separate again before the rest of your footwear wares out. I have a two year old pair of Bellville tr102 minimalist boots currently, and they started to separate in the instep last week. No more. I injected it with glue and let it sit overnight. That simple.
A video comparing moc style shoes like this one might be really neat such as the Clarks as the granddaddy of the casual modern day moc shoe. There are two from Milwaukee boot Company in a more affordable range, a high top and a low top. There’s at least one from Craft and Glory that I know of . Some of these are Goodyear welted. some of them say they’re moccasin construction. It might be interesting to see some of the differences in affordable versus expensive ones, or if they’re all just gimmicks.
The Ipath has a cap under the toe. It's a cup sole, the sole last longer. The heal and tongue are padded. I skated so many pairs of Cats and Grasshoppers back in the day and I would ride them until there was nothing left to glue and goo.
I like the skate shoe series, not because I skate, ruined enough shin skin in the 00s, but they're often more interesting design wise. Half cabs with fluffy quarter panels, im in.
don't think anyone expected these to hold up long or are even really buying them to skate in. kind of a weird review to make but i do like the information about the construction and materials
Please review the Nike PS8! It’s Nike’s most tech focused skate shoe they’ve released and I’m super curious what it’s like cut in half. It’s got a big zoom air unit in it and a full carbon fiber shank/flyplate. Flyknit and suede upper, just a lot of cool little tech features. I maaaay buy a second pair to skate because they are too cool to destroy imo
In the 90s, I skated in Simples. They were bought out, became a vegan shoe company, and lost their durability. They repurchased themselves a few years ago. I'd be curious to see how they hold up and compare.
Gimmicky............ Pretty much Vans tennis figured out what makes a good skate shoe, and why we used vans if we had $ and Converse C.T's for feel of the board, duct tape longevity and they didn't break the bank.(until they got popular that is) Skating is kind of bougie along with surfing and snowboarding all of those things used to be inexpensive fun, it's all sold out to Big Business........... Gone back to buying stuff from thrift stores. 🤙 Aloha
Any idea what the shore A is on a Vans pop cush? I don't think your channel has reviewed anything with that insole but I do believe that is what LR is working towards with their new squishier insole.
do a vintage pair of Es Accels or Emerica Reynolds or something and compare it to the modern equivalent. Also, I usually use Foys or Joslins. I kind of like the look of the Last resort mocs though.
Isn´t it weird that skateshoes gets narrower and pointier every day? In an activity were the feets are your most importand part, feeling and injury-wise, shoes are the worst in terms of fit! I can´t wear "skatebrands" on an everyday basis anymore. I put them on when I skate and take them of as fast as possible after. Was looking at a pair of Vans AVE in a store and it is actually ridiculouse how narrow they are!
on the other hand, i saw a "new" brand called meeko. They're selling sneakers that are marketed as "waterproof" "resilient" "comfortable" and "all-terrain", with a tearproof patent and 100% vegan. i reallly would like to see you cut them in half to really see what's inside, i'm more of a real leather guy but technology are evolving so maybe it's worth something
Trust me a lot of these issues differ from person to person, also they where definitely still skatable, I don’t think you can talk for durability until they’re unwearable because that’s the whole life of the shoe
A lot of new skate shoes are fashion first, function second. They expect more people will wear them casually than skate them, so they don't build them to withstand skateboarding. Just my opinion, and I haven't skated since I was a kid in the 80s & early 90s, but I never remember my skate shoes failing after 5 hours back then.
I just cannot pick the right shoe to protect my feet. Might get the all white sb dunks, maybe? No exposed foam underneath. I haven't skated in like 2 weeks because, a. my neck hurts because it's all messed up and I land on my ass like a bobblehead sometimes, and b. I keep landing primo trying to progress my kickflips over small gaps, and then I start growing a lump on my plantar fascia (I skate very flat-footed and back foot heavy so it's always my right foot) and it only goes away if I put some shit called triamcinolone on it twice a day. I wish they'd made an air force skate shoe sometimes. All they'd have to do is tighten the toebox up a little bit, widen the lace section by like 10mm and stick a fatter tongue in there to lock in the foot, and it also has to be high top, though. Just give me the frankenstein shoe sneaker, and let me skate it. The only test I actually need is to stand on the knife edge of the board and see how badly the shoe bends in half, or doesn't bend, preferably. Also, I would wear these just to chill. I love the clean look of the low clarks shoes. I always wanted the black low tops. I have some brown leather high top ones. They stain my socks like if I'd been walking through a baseball field, shoeless, in the rain. But they're comfy, and kinda grippy. The suede clark lows were very popular also among jamaicans; rasta, rudeboys and stuff like that. ps. Shoe goo tip; use an ice cube to spread it without any peaks. It also works for spreading it very thin and pushing it into the fibers of canvas (and suede) a little better. It'll get a little watery on the surface, so give it some extra cure time to fully dry. you're welcome... but you guys should start talking about using composite materials as thread specifically for toebox stitching. If they sewed it up with like carbon fiber it would make the shoe that much better. The industry is concerned about their profit margin, but we need to tell them what we want sometimes, and they'll probably do it. And we don't get these for free! We need to like the technology in the products they sell or we just won't buy it. If you look at like some dvs shoes on amazon, everyone says "these shoes have hard rubber, feels slick in wet floor and are overall not grippy enough" etc. People aren't always stupid.
I’m pretty sure ipath makes this exact same shoe with a strobel stitch. Fallen and ipath coming back out of nowhere might be the only good thing to happen in whatever year this is.

Can you do a luxury skate shoe series - ie. The Lanvin Curbs, etc?
Since it’s still Moctober, you should do the Thursday boots diplomat tobacco lug sole and find out how it’s different with the challenger last

I Path, we're the absolutely best and most durable shoes I have ever worn to my feet.
Thank you and Godspeed.

They have recently come back!!
I had a pair of Ipath caterpillars, they were so good. Especially when I was coming back from blowing an ankle out, loads of support

I've been waiting on a DC shoe cut for so long they must fund this channel 😂
Compare it to the new IPATH moc toe skate shoe!! I have both and the IPATH is waaay beefier

Ipath has just come back and is having a resurgence. They have a skate mock toe that is dope!!
They appear to be a perfectly good $19.99 shoe 😁
But they ain't that price?
I don’t skate(haven’t since I was in my teens, now 40) but I’m all for more skate shoe review videos 👍🏻👍🏻
Same. I remember when Airwalks grabbed my attention on other guys in highschool...I wonder how the quality has changed now that I see them at PayLess?
@@unclegrandfather1 I’m sure they aren’t very good. Use to wear air walks a lot back then. Def durable with a lot of suede from what I remember
@JeremyGiese Wearing those with a big baggy pair of corduroy pants, that was quite a fashion statement back then
Last resorts had the Mocs for awhile now. These black ones are the 2nd drop. Original Moc a year maybe half a year ago.
I loved my ipaths.. They had a little storage pocket inside the tongue to stash your bud in.. Totally epic.

I had a pair of the I-Path Cats when they first came out. I skated them and they lasted for months before I retired them to just casual wear.

I loved Simples! I hated big branding on shoes, I skated lots of Emerica shoes too for the same reason, tiny little logo.
Thanks for making these vids. It sucks a company that's supposed to be all about being skater owned and for skaters is such a buster.
love the silhouette, but doubt i'd skate them. they make for a good chill shoe, like their loafers.
Try the Tom Penny Route....... Clarks vs. iPath..... vs Last Resort......
Would be interested in wide versions of Skate Shoes which is hard to find.
