Emailed him in highschool in 2008 and he responded. We chatted back and forth for a bit about photography. Great guy. Thank you Atiba, still shoot skating to this day.
Dude I did the same thing for my photography class! I did a report on him and asked if I had permission to use some of his photos for my presentation, super nice dude.
Met Atiba backstage with Turnstile in Portland a few years back. Nobody backstage with me knew who he was, I approached him and told him how big of a fan I was, that growing up I had so many of his pics on my wall etc..he was the nicest guy, and we talked old school post hard-core ( quicksand, orange 9mm) and he was just the coolest. He even took a picture of me and my homie with Turnstile..so I'm lucky enough to say I got my Pic taken by Atiba!! Again nicest guy out there. So important for skateboarding past /present and future!
Watching this was awesome. The late 80’s to late 90’s was my era of skateboarding. This reminds me of how authentic that era was. And how cool all these guys are. They stuck in it for so long and have five so good.
For someone like me who’s never heard of this man, this documentary captured (pun intended) his overwhelming impact on the culture. Welcome back, Vice-we’ve missed you tremendously!
This brought back a lot of good memories. I wanted to be a professional photographer/filmer like Atiba when I was in high school. Had my all my gear stolen twice which pretty much crushed that dream. But before that happened I managed to get two of my photos in Thrasher’s Photograffiti and was beyond stoked to have something published in the same magazine with all these dudes I looked up to. 🙌🏽 Thank you Atiba and thank you skateboarding. Also, Chomp on This is one of my favorite skate videos and I still have it on VHS.
this is awesome, for someone thats still trying to find the lan in photography always have looked up to atiba. shouts out to patrick for making this come to life!!
I'm a skateboarding photographer in my home country Nicaragua. Atiba has been one of my most influencial photographer in my photography, skateboarding wise. More photographers and videographers please from skateboarding. LOVED this episode! Greetings from Nicaragua
Such a must needed interview! I’ve always wanted to meet him and pick his brain. This will obviously be the closest to that happening! Love that this series is rollin!
When i was a little kid and had thps 4 with the photo at Alkatraz mission with Atiba, i checked out his photos in mags and he became one of my favorite photographers and skaters
I went to the one year anniversary of saint archer in San Diego and I got a chance to talk to him. He was coolest most down to earth guy. Long story short he told me to go after my dreams. Core memory right there.
Wow, thanks, I like this! I remember early 2000 at a demo in Stockholm. I went there to see my favorite skaters PJ Ladd and Eric Koston but when I got there I saw that Atiba was there taking photos. Haha, I probably watched him photograph more than the skating. When I left I ended up next to Koston and Atiba who were on their way to the tour bus. Totally star struck, of course I didn't dare to talk to them, but I was insanely happy to have walked a couple of hundred meters next to them. 😀
We saw turnstile a couple of years ago and I noticed Atiba was there taking pictures. I don’t know that I’ll tell my children about seeing Turnstile, but I will tell them I was once in the same room as Atiba.
I would always see that guy in LA at Cha Cha Lounge along a lot of great legends in skateboarding like Nuge. Finally got to say whatsup and he seems just like a true genuine person. Super talented photographer. Much respect.
Dope episode. Do one on Ocean Howell, or Satva Leung. Mysterious dudes we liked back in the days. Ocean skated to Cocteau Twins back in the days, so respect to him for that.

Will it be like the old vice mag or will it be the woke sellout cash grab version?
Jake darwen please
@@shnutzgangyou still on this page? Haven’t been paying much attention in the past year eh? Yawn
We need King of the Road back again 😮
If I stick to cool stuff like this... maybe they will make a comeback. Maybe drop the politics?
Overdue and well earned for the legend

Earned by ... pushing buttons on expensive cameras, which requires literally zero talent.

Atiba is the perfect example of how being genuine and humble can open so many doors for you.
