Yo Rose anvil I think it would be epic if you could make a traction test for the shoes, maybe put weights in the shoe and place them on a sloped platform. Just an idea love the videos keep it up 😁
Hello Rose Anvil, have you consider cutting Mexican boots and sneakers brands next? Here in Mexico we have the Flexi brand, and their line of country outdoor boots earned a reputation for being quite durable, especially for their price ($80). It would be amazing to see how it square off to the famous American brands.
smart move having people with knowledge in different fields that still fit the anvil brand come in and help out with all the different footwear out there. keep up the good work dudes
i loved watching this guy cut boots in half for ages, and now with these skate shoes im blown away by how much i'm learning. they leave no company detail out either. these videos are so thorough!
Skate shoes I'd love to see reviewed: - SB Nyjah 3 - Nike SB Nyjah Free 2 - SB Dunk High Pro - Nike SB Air Jordan 1 - Adidas ADV Boost - Adidas Matchcourt - SB Hyperfeel Blue Yellow
@@YTwoKay I have a pair of the Matchcourt in black suede. U.S. 9.5. I hated the excessive rubber toe cap. Pulled a muscle in my ankle trying to kickflip and fakie fa flip several years ago.
props on the good introduction and calling NB out as still being a big corporation which is inherently negative to the market share of skater owned companies, but also acknowledging that they, at least, have managed to grow in the skate scene more organically and throuhg making good product rather than just slapping a logo on cheap shoes and spending the money on marketing
You guys should do a skate shoe series. I started watching your channel because I skate and as a skater you wear through shoes fast so I liked learning about the dissection of and material testing of all those boots and shoes. Doing something like this is awesome because it’s a different take than your typical “100 kickflip” wear test you see all the time. I honestly think you’ll start to get a lot of viewers (skaters) if you keep doing this
Love this skate shoes series! Can't wait for the og old skools to see how they compare with more modern shoes! Congrats on $100K destroyed Rose Anvil! You are my favorite channel!
I’ve been cutting shoes in half for over 20 years. So excited to find Rose Anvil a few years back, and now you’re doing skate shoes?! Amazing. Please keep it up. Good work Sam
My first New Balance shoe ever were skate shoes-the 331’s-and man! It sucks that line has long been discontinued, but the fresh foam insole was everything I wanted in a minimal design shoe.
I had been hoping for some skate shoe content for quite a while and you don’t disappoint. I’d like to see some Vans dissected. The skate slip~on or the Kyle Walkers. They both skate really well for different reasons. Keep up the great work!
a longer lasting bottom rubber and I would definitely buy these on sale. the pre-built crumple gaps make so much sense to me. please keep these skate shoe reviews coming! vans or emericas next?
Just started skating in the 306's about a year ago. Have become my favorite shoe to skate in. Used to skate in the Emerica Reynolds 3 until they stopped making them. Haven't been able to find a perfect skate shoe till the 306's.
Yo Rose anvil I think it would be epic if you could make a traction test for the shoes, maybe put weights in the shoe and place them on a sloped platform. Just an idea love the videos keep it up 😁
I bought the mustard yellow (brown) Jamie's at a New Balance outlet for $45. Great shoes, very comfortable. Not a skater, just love the look and love the feel.
Thanks Sam - really loving the educated thorough skate shoe reviews. I stumbled into Rose Anvil a long time ago, but I don't even wear boots or dress shoes haha
Fuck yeah!!!! More skate content, theres plenty of videos to make! Thank you for taking these apart, New Balance has been killing it for years and it’s great to see what’s in their products.
You are the only youtuber im hyped for to watch. Im so interested in the structure and build quality from the shoes and sneakers you review. Keep on going!!
The reason I think Rose Anvil would love cutting apart one of Tiago's Numerics, the 1010 or the 808, is because they take all the technology that NB is using in skate shoes and combines them logically. I have never had to Shoe Goo one in 3 years now of shredding them and they feel great on-board, even for a thick cupsole.
Holly crap! I checked my shoes and realized my kids got me these NB306 for a Christmas gift! I'm an old school 80-90's BMXer and Skateboarder so I didn't know about Jamie Foy , he's too recent. It's good to know my kids got me great board shoes! I'll definitely wear them with pride even though I can only cruise on a board now.
I wore a pair of 2019 306s through two Chicago winters and they worked surprisingly well. Can’t grip shit on ice but even when I would accidentally step in a slush puddle my feet never got wet. Great daily shoe. Good for skating too
Awesome series! I’ve wondered about durometers and materials for shoes, so this is an awesome deep dive into what makes a shoe work. Check out the Nike SB Ishod 2… it’s definitely my favorite skate shoe so far, about 3 years into skating.
Love the skate shoe content. Would love to see you guys do the Etnies Michelin Maranas. See if that tyre technology outsole makes any kind of difference.
I bought these a few years back and the fit so was so tight that I ended up with a toenail bleed the shoe just wouldn't break in, it definitely fits half a size down. On the plus side it's one of the nicest looking vulc shoes I've ever skated and the rubber outsole has just the right amount of grip. I might buy another pair after watching this review
While you'd see Jamie Foy and think "he needs impact protection" and you'd probably be right, but he's also what skaters call a rail-chomper, kind of a techy one at that, I'd imagine boardfeel goes a pretty long way when grinding stuff. It's not a super beefy or puffy shoe, heelflips would be more difficult in this shoe, that's just how it is. Need padded stuff near ankle for that. He's not throwing tricks down huge sets of stairs, what we call "hucking" it. That's more of a Chris Joslin, who's also not the most svelte skater out there, if that even matters much or at all. Suggestion: Cut in half og accels!
FOY doesn't HUCK IT???????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????? (I'm being a Dramatic Deborah a bit, maybe we're talking past each other and or you don't watch them as consistent?) Joslin has MASSIVELY calmed down the sucking but he was mostly ALL huck, that's a insane bar to pretend if it's not mostly hucking as he did then all else I guess is more or less indicative of someone who doesn't huck it? They both, especially Joslin have gone the opposite of what they did the most while maintaining it but also one flipping down things more and the other being insanely tech. Joslin for the past 5yrs at least been tech, flip in flip out SWITCH flip in flip out, switch flips into hubbas, all that. You can watch his little segment on the Berrics where he was starting of flip out and some of it looked sketchy like he was just really getting to it more but has again for years now been super tech. Do you not watch their Instagrams or something and just parts maybe? Or are we having an insane bar for what is hucking vs not and if you are not mostly hucking then you don't huck? Oddly enough he has one of the BEST damn Heelflips, Fake Heels in the game and SENDS them down big ass things. Watch his raw footage even on UA-cam and you see how much and how often Foy is hucking it, even if still more so he's doing rails. All else is spot on about wanting something thin for board feel as was intended PLUS he was super in his mostly rail phase when these were first made yearrrrrrrrs ago so wanting lots of board feel at the expense of it being thicker is a trade off made and a very intentional thing. And with bulky shoes or cupsoles, yeah heel flips tend to really HIT for a lot of people regardless but it's gonna be personal preference 🤣 OG Accels would be a great tear down but I don't think they really updated them with enough tech as it could to make one of the best iconic shoes even better.
There are/were multiple NB# vulcanized models in the 400s on up: Franky Villani 417, 420 (Marquis’ past shoe), 425, 574, etc. The 574 is a heritage model with a vulc sole, so they’re an outlier since the 440v2 (tech cupsole) and 480 (chunky 1983 basketball shoe) are notable cupsoles.
I love skating core shoes like sole tech, but nb are just the perfect shape for my feet and it feels so good to skate them. So far my favorite nb has been the villani 417 mids
Abzorb was NB's main insert cushioning material from the late 1980s through to the 2000s. I believe it's a polyurethane based material rather than an EVA foam which is why it's quite dense. The nearest equivalent is "sorbothane" which has been around a very long time.
At first, I thought “wow Nike 2.0” but I actually love the shoes. And they’ve helped push my skating. HOWEVER they wear out and feel floppy after 1-2 weeks of hard skating. Take that as you may, I’m about to buy a pair of the 440 v2 black colorway
love the skate shoe content! I skated the Foy's and really liked them, but my only beef was that the outsole wore through super fast. The construction of the upper is fantastic, but the toughness of that upper really is sort of moot if the insole gets a hole worn in it before the toe cap. I've been skating the 808 Tiago shoes for several months and they're just now getting worn out. its not an apples to apples comparison because the 808 is a cupsole. way less board feel than the foys, but I'm in my 40's and will gladly lose board feel to avoid heel bruises. I'd love to see more new balance deep dives, I feel like they're some of the best constructed shoes in the skate game with thoughtful design details.
Skate or die!! 🤘 keep giving us more skate shoe reviews, most of the dude on here are formerly skaters im sure, the nostalgia of just seeing skate shoes again is enough to keep me coming for more vids. 🤙🤘
i've been obsessed with PNW boots this past year... BUT.., skateboarding will always be my first passion : ) since 2002.., at like 12 years old..and i still love it all the same.., definitely don't keep up with it now though.. but i still watch it regularly.. maybe i should give it another go,, just to keep up with flip tricks on flat again,, i wanna learn slappys too
Haven't watched the video yet but I already have to say that New Balance makes the most durable skate shoes I've ever tried. On my 3rd pair and I plan on getting many more!
I found some No Boundries at WalMart for like $20 that work pretty damn well as some burner shoes.. they're entirely canvas but seem to have patches of extra layers right where you need them. They're definitely not a "Pro" shoe but for $20 they're a good, cheap, easy to find backup.
my navy issued runners were new balance, i liked them. comfortable and well-made. i haven't tried their skate shoes, but i would consider them. i especially like the look of the 508 westgates, 440, 480
Awesome video! I skated every single day growing up and almost into my 20s. Back then adidas Samba was the best value shoe I ever skated in. Loved the feel and for the price, they lasted… but they weren’t a “skate shoe” 😆. I know why they’re so tough tho cuz I watched your video on them a while back
Picked up my first pair of NB Numerics, the Thiago Lemos 808 model collab with Roland and their TR-808 drum machine. They remind me of the Nike SB Dunks
On my second pair of foys, definitely the bottoms wear out quicker than putting a hole thru the sides. But I think that’s a new balance vulcanize trait. Some more iconic skate shoes would be awesome to see like the Nike janoskis or Osiris d3’s
I love the skate series Can you guys cover brands like Globe and Es please? Ive skated with the Es Swift 1.5 and I thought they were amazing. Thank you
id love to see you guys cover vision suede his bc ive been eyeing them up, and would love to see them featured in the skatewear videos. also would love to see a vans shoe at some point, but thats a given if yall are gonna do more skate shoe videos
Alright guys, I give you my opinions. I usually wear the NB# 600 for skating, that shoe is as close to perfect as I could find in the last 2 years. The NB# 600 is a cupsole which gives you great protection and the right amount of board feel. I also own a pair of this NB# 306. This shoe is hella soft and great for cozy days at the beach. It also resembles a bit of a barefoot shoe shape and is good for people with wider feet. I skated them once but my fragile ankles didn't enjoyed the experience. 10/10 video keep it coming guys.
Wish i could skate them. Very wide at the toe which was perfect for me but the midfoot area tapers too slim and really hurt my arches. Tried different insoles but kept having pain and I can't size up half since i'm a size 12. Love the NB team and the shoes have good tech but i wish i could find some that fit me well. Alot of their shoes run a bit narrow.
@@spht9ng yo mate. I am not sure if you talk about the 306 or the 600. The 306 is not narrow around the mid foot. Another option for you could be the 480, which is on the roomier side. Some New Balance shoes don't seem to work with certain foot shapes. Maybe the 1010 would fit you well?
PJ Ladd got on NB after Es as well... i'm not a fan of Vulk soles for actually skating. walking is ok, but sole seam wears too fast and landing primo is generally more painful. cups are just better all around for impact and durability when street skating. no toe seams with a double layer can make a big difference, but can't make it look like a toecap with shoegoo as easily lol... Etnies' Joslin models are supposedly pretty good, and their Marana tire compound sole+ollie guard shoes are well liked as well.
I’ve had 2 pairs of these. They look and feel great, albeit too slim on the sole for me to actually skate in personally. No idea how Foy does what he does in these. I love the current Westgate, which is arguable a perfect skate shoe imo
Rose! Please check out the new IPATH GRASSHOPPERS! These were my favorite shoes of my younger years and i was so dissapointed when they stopped making them. They just got rereleased! I grabbed the rasta grasshoppers at zumies asap! They are awesome!
petitoning to be a trick model for the next skate shoe video. a proper flicked back foot caught kickflip is a thing of beauty. not hating on the floppy flip. skating aint easy. love you guys!
Just got back into skating and it just soo happens that you guys are doing skate shoot vids. I’ve been skating Jordan 1s and there not bad surprisingly, what do you think?
I just ordered a pair, I ended up getting white with some neon green and baby blue bullshit, I regretted my decision right away but couldn't cancel. The colors felt a bit racing-y then I realized that every single thing about this shoe would actually make for an amazing driving shoe. I'll go to the next open track day and try them out.

The Tyshawn low is my all-time favorite. Skates beautifully. Haven't tested the Tyshawn II yet.
How does the revamped Tyshawn fit compared to the OG Tyshawn Mid?
I prefer the Tyshawn Mid even though I'm literally wearing the low right now.

Like the shoe and love the series Sam. Lakai next please!
Picked up my first pair of NB Numerics, the Thiago Lemos 808 model collab with Roland and their TR-808 drum machine. They remind me of the Nike SB Dunks
keep em up, in my opinion best skate shoe in depth reviews
On my second pair of foys, definitely the bottoms wear out quicker than putting a hole thru the sides. But I think that’s a new balance vulcanize trait.
Some more iconic skate shoes would be awesome to see like the Nike janoskis or Osiris d3’s
‘Es accel og!!! Iconic in skate boarding
Keep doing skate shoes and I might subscribe :)
I'd love to see New Balance 991 vs. 992, UK vs. USA
i'd like to see some of the made in usa or uk new balances and/or collab pairs just to check if the materials are actually better
I love the skate series
Can you guys cover brands like Globe and Es please?
Ive skated with the Es Swift 1.5 and I thought they were amazing. Thank you
Love the new Skate Shoe series. Test the Walmart Airwalk Huntington or Grind
id love to see you guys cover vision suede his bc ive been eyeing them up, and would love to see them featured in the skatewear videos. also would love to see a vans shoe at some point, but thats a given if yall are gonna do more skate shoe videos
The Foy's are my favorite NB# I've had. Great shoes
@@flowterspace I think I’ll try the 1010. I was talking about the 306. Definitely a narrower midfoot area than the typical Vans shoe for example.
Would love to see the 1010 and the 808 cut
You should look into the ipath cats, they’re a skate shoe meant to look/be a moc toe and it’d be interesting to see if they actually are one
Love this review, Asics skate shoe review would be sick!!! I love the Japan S pro and the gel vikka pro
I'd like to see a review of the Etnies joslin shoe, my personal favorite skate shoe of all time
PJ Ladd got on NB after Es as well... i'm not a fan of Vulk soles for actually skating. walking is ok, but sole seam wears too fast and landing primo is generally more painful. cups are just better all around for impact and durability when street skating. no toe seams with a double layer can make a big difference, but can't make it look like a toecap with shoegoo as easily lol... Etnies' Joslin models are supposedly pretty good, and their Marana tire compound sole+ollie guard shoes are well liked as well.
Yes! Keep the skate shoes coming!
I’ve had 2 pairs of these. They look and feel great, albeit too slim on the sole for me to actually skate in personally. No idea how Foy does what he does in these. I love the current Westgate, which is arguable a perfect skate shoe imo
Would love some Lakai Cambridge or the Etnies Joslins
Nice review! 417 is the exception to the 399 rule, that’s also a Vulc.
Acid drop insoles from straye are amazing.
