Loudness level is such a frustration point for me because I want to compete commercially. I’ve spent countless hours compressing, playing with Ozone 9 settings, and trying different bounce settings/outputs. Thank you so much Devvon for this insight! Please keep making videos on how we can bring our music as close to a commercial level as possible, when it comes to volume, clarity reverb and eq. The devil is truly in the details and one wrong move here brings our mixes back to an amateur level 😔
Bro...instant level up.... this was theeeeeeee biggest thing i was doing wrong for real.... tried it on a mix and it instantly made me sound more loud and professional...Thanks a million
Literally had this problem last night. I was able to figure it out though after turning off the limiter. The kick sounded way louder than the entire mix. Mad how much it can actually improve your mix just by doing this!
Its so insane u posted this video because Ive been mixing for almost 10 years at home and I legitly just figured out... on my own... that bass was eating up my headroom and since I did find that out my mixes have been exceptionally cleaner at the loud volumes I master my tracks to (-13 lufs). This channel is so dope just wish you dropped this video a few years earlier haha!
bro, this like the 20th video ive watched of yours and its time that i really give you some big credit and genuinely want to say thank you for all this education and gems homie...i really appreciate the sharing of knowledge and you have helped me tremendously- i cant wait to start dropping my tracks!! shout out to the boy William Singe too, i seen you linked wit him and put in work...William is my #1 singer inspiration when im tryna execute some R&B hits, im thinkin of Will. and thanks to YOU, now i know how to carve out my vocal and get everything sounding sexy AF!! thx bro bro, ill see you when i get up there!!!
I was taking an hour break from mixing and saw you posted this vid so I watched it. I applied it after and it helped absolutely tremendously. My brotha thank you so damn much this helped me so much
Great video! I love how the mix goes from sounding like a soundcloud demo to nice and polished just by lowering the volume of the kick. Loudness aside, it just sounds so much better actually. This is one of those small tips that I wish someone would've told me a loooong time ago.
I was wondering why this happens to me in my mixes and whala, the answer as a fall from the sky, thanks for your contributions are fantastic and very professional, there are not many like you on youtube. I thought it was something wrong with my daw, what a fool I was.
this is what i needed to see. my kicks was killing the mix for sure. right after this video went off i went to one of my mixes and just lower the kick a little i think like 2.1 dp lower and man it made every thing blend to gather better. i threw a nls bus on the master and raise the trim up like 2.1db and damn every thing still sounded so good to gather. to me u are a god for this video here man
Bro you are great at breaking this stuff down in a short amount of time. I have been listening to various tips from your videos. And I am pretty good at mixing working on getting even better at Mastering. Always can use tips I learn something every day in this music. Salute Peace Outtttttt
Wow , I realized this a week ago in one of my mixes, it sounded so loud but the limiter was no engaged that much... After watching this I went back to the mix and realised my kick was not that loud this time but still hits hard...great tip...thanks bro
Man subscribe to this man! Nobody on UA-cam explained this like in this video, wow, finally. This is info institutions make you pay for, THANK YOU, SALUTE!!!!
devvon i liked the videos youve done over the vocal effects roddy rich and drake used but nobody as experienced as you has done a video about the rapper lil peep ,the vocal brightness is so strange because its not sharp but its soft while super bright at the same time while many vocals are stacked over eachother this is probably how marilyn manson used to do his vocals i think this would be a great video idea for us new to mixing thank u!~ rest in peace lil peep
Gain staging is 80% of the battle, this is important, your fader should be your first eq, eq and compression, should just help it sit better, assuming that's it'll already good.
cool video thanks, but I feel like you explained it in the first 3 minutes and the rest was just the same thing, like it could have been explained in 30-60 seconds. But this helps a lot thanks, great video!
hey Devon! sick video as usual. got a question a bit unrelated. Im using a Mac air 1.8ghz Dual-Core i5, 8gb of ram, 128gb ssd and get crackles and pops (Apollo interface and Neumann) would you reccomend upgrading maybe to a pro? and if so what specs thanks !!
I really appreciate you and your knowledge bro.. I don’t think you get enough thanks. Thinkin bout gettin one of your templates bro.. but I got blue mic straight into a scarlet solo studio.. you think I can achieve a listenable mix or is it just a major uphill battle?
@@HelpMeDevvon okay, yeah man I would love too. And might be a good video topic one day if you used your template on a super minimal setup, maybe reference a track with the hardware or somn. I’ve went ham on your videos the past like week or so I’m getting hip
How are you deal with that issue if you have a two track from UA-cam? I know eq or multiband compression but it’ll be dope of you did a demonstrations. 💪🏽
Hey Devon.. I am digging your channel man.. You are absolutely incredible.. I also checked out your videos too. Dude is mad legit.. I appreciate you brother. I want to get in the discord.. I am not good though.. lol

Im A Loyal Student From Nigeria. Youre Too Good To Be True
Nice info devon
you can also EQ the kick to carve out space for 808, sub, bassline and other instruments (sidechaining also solves a lot of these issues)
Man, this dude is FREAKING INCREDIBLE........ This makes so much sense.. Love it.. I need to join discord.. lol
