Due to the nature of this content, I'm unable to monetize these this series of videos, so anything you can do to help out will be greatly appreciated. I also want to apologize for the somewhat lackluster performance. I've been suffering severe back pain with two slipped disked. On the upside, since the content keeps these videos from monetization, I've left in the harsh language - which I know you'll all enjoy!

That really REALLY sucks to hear about the back issues, appreciate your continuing to make these even with the pain your likely in and even in spite of the lack of monetization no less, but please don't be afraid to take some time off if you need it, from what I understand they tend to take like a month and a half to heal. Maybe see if you can get you can get some guests to make videos for you so your youtube algorithm doesn't get messed up. I actually wouldn't mind seeing other youtubers like Paulogia, Prophet of Zod, etc. try to make videos in the WoTM style. Or maybe Pinecreek Doug doing a misterdeity roast video or something?
Regardless, I continue to VERY much appreciate you and all your work! As the saying goes, hope you get well soon!

I looked up Clay Jones in the Dissertation Abstracts. This is the database where, anyone who gets a PhD from an accredited institution in the US submits their thesis. My thesis is there. Martin Luthter King, Jr.'s thesis is there. So is Bill Cosby's and Laura Schlessinger, and Dale Allison's.
I did not find Clay Jones, so either he did not get his PhD in the US (like Bill Craig, whose PhD is from Birmingham and so is not in the database) or it's not from an accredited institution in the US.
Whoops, I was right. Professor Clay Jones has "Doctor of Ministry" degree from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School. Not a PhD.
Now, TEDS does have a PhD program. There are hundreds of TEDS PhD graduates. They have absolutely relevant PhD theses, like
"The rationality of religious belief in a postmodern age"
"The rise of the Parachurch Movement in American Protestant Christianity during the 1930s and 1940s: A detailed study of the beginnings of the Navigators, Young Life and Youth for Christ International"
"Covenantal ethics: A study in contrast. A comparison and evaluation of two contemporary models of Christian ethics that use "covenant" as a central theme"
"The Joseph Narrative: Genesis 37-39. An analysis of three modern textual approaches"
Notice the one thing about these PhD topics: they aren't apologetics. This is biblical and religious scholarship.
Clay Jones is a "Doctor of Ministry." He's not a scholar of history nor of the bible. As far as I can tell, he's a professional apologist. That's about it.

@@johnb2649 I have to admit, as one who has a PhD in the dissertation abstracts and is a Professor, I tend to be a little gatekeeping when it comes to claims of being a professional scholar. Fake degrees and attempts to equivocate degree credentials really bother me. It ranges from complete jokes like Kent Hovind and mail-order degrees to legitimate PhDs who try to use their credentials to speak outside their expertise (see Mayim Bialik). In that case, my response is, "I also have a PhD and say that person is full of crap" and so we're even.
I think that people with a PhD have a responsibility to apply ourselves properly, use our expertise where our expertise applies, and when it doesn't apply, defer to those who have it.
And I get mad when non-experts try to fool people by equivocating themselves with real experts.
As such, I keep tools like Dissertation Abstracts handy.

The apologists do exceptional intellectual backflips to dissociate their god from Jephthah, but nowhere in Judges 10 through 12 is Jephthah condemned or rebuked. The text has the daughter herself say that her father must do this (Judges 11 ; 36 KJV). Further, in Judges 12, it says Jephthah 'judged' Israel for six years afterwards and also defeated the Ephraimites, killing 42,000.

While the Jews on campus are literally being threatened with grape and unaliving without any regard for anything other than the fact that they belong to a particular group of people regardless of the relationship of those people to the State of Israel. But that's what is so intriguing about the biblical religions. They are based on the texts of the losers of history. The biblical and parabiblical literatures all attempt to explain how, although Yahweh did NOT protect His few, comparatively insignificant people--or His own Son?--from disasters of every kind, He is still the Man and will eventually vindicate them with a future final victory. The future victory is promised in every size and style, and sometimes it is said to be already shipped, but somehow the believers of every generation are left naked when all is said and done. Yet future believers will go on imagining the Bible as a fashion magazine that promises to make the ordinary readers beautiful someday.

I'll never forget getting into an argument with a Jehovah's Witness about the God-ordered genocide of the Canaanites. He offered to loan me a JW book not meant for reading by non-believers that would explain the story. When he returned the following week with the book, he had marked the relevant section, the chapter-heading of which was "The Justification For The Extermination Of The Canaanite People". Creepy.

  • @DeludedOne
    @DeludedOne 6 місяців тому +4

Low Bar Bill: "God commanded genocide but actually didn't command genocide if you look at his commands in EXACTLY this manner with your eyes crossed and your head cocked and..."
Yeah. This is what we called retroactive revision and it works like this:
1.) Start with the assumption that your god is benevolent and thus would not command ANYTHING h...YOU consider evil.
2.) So if the Bible says that your god did indeed command or do anything that YOU consider evil:
-Pretend that the passage is actually not saying what it clearly is saying. This is due to the above assumption. Since your god clearly is benevolent, he truly cannot have commanded or done what the Bible clearly says he commanded and does if that thing it says he commanded and did is, by your reckoning, evil. Hence no matter what the Bible says, it actually didn't say that, and anyone who says that it did is misunderstanding it, they HAVE to be!
-Say that your god commanded no such thing but the people under him thought he did, therefore it's THEIR fault not his. Of course this does have the problem of contravening what the Bible says, and we all know the Bible can NEVER be wrong about what your god is like, what he commanded or did, however this isn't anything that the above excuse can't handle.
3.) And remember kids, at the end of the day the Bible is the intractable and historically accurate record of the will of your god above all else.
