I'm 73 now, but when I was a little kid, mom would bring in weeds from the country ditches and dip them and they would be used in bouquets for Christmas decorations on the table and they glistened. I've been trying lately to remember what it was they used, so I appreciate this post. I don't think they went into so much detail back then. I think it was just put the weed in the liquid with the borax in it and let them cool.

Wow, your mom was resourceful yet kept things festive and magical. My mom did things like that, though not that- she dyed Easter eggs using boiled red onions & beet juice, stained linens in tea and/or coffee and decorated our Christmas trees with hand strung popcorn and strings of cranberries then added yellow calico bows to every other branch. I go in the ditch or meadow for plants and flowers all the time. Whose to say we can't enjoy the weeds? God made them after all-

We do this with our kids before Thanksgiving. We gather cattails, pinecones, Rye, Barley, Wheat, small tree limbs with dry leaves still attached, etc. Then we spray them with gold and silver and copper paint! We put the pinecones inside a big clear vase and then make our own arrangement with the rest. My kids are now 20 and 25 and we all do this every year still.

Just a little bit of advice especially if you do a lot of spray painting... Go to Kmart or another shop like it... Buy a fabric portable wardrobe and do all your spray can spraying in the wardrobe outside... This helps keep the fumes in the wardrobe and stops over spray ruining your garden space... Plus once you have finished spraying you just zip up the wardrobe and your project can dry safely and you don't have to worry about the wind or dust affecting the end result 😅😊. Hope this is helpful to everyone

Hello, I wanted to share a little secret I tried with the fabric flowers. Try not leaving them in the solution for a long time. I let mine steep in the solution for about 3 1/2 hours. When I took them out, I was still able to shape the middle of the rose so that you could see the middle. I still achieved all the crystals and glittery pedals. However, the pedals did not fall off, nor were they brittle. I thought I would pass this on.

Your memory of the railroad tracks brought back the memory of my great grandmother. My great grandmother Little Dove 🕊️ was a full blooded Eastern Band Cherokee Indian. My kin told me she would walk along the RR tracks, picking up coal that dropped off of the coal cars, in order to heat their home in a West Virginia holler.
Grandma Little Dove 🕊️ had surgery for a tooth extraction. Obviously it was extremely painful and no pain killers. Her head was heavily wrapped in cotton fabric. Unfortunately due to this she could not hear the train coming down the track and she was struck and killed by the coal carrying train. Her youngest was six years old.

Every fall my community has a huge 2 week long festival, where you can buy & sell everything you can think of. And, homemade crafts are a huge deal, especially the more unique craft items. So, along with my crochet blankets and shawls that I make throughout the year, I believe I'm going to get the ingredients and start making a ton of these. I mean, silk flowers are rather inexpensive, and a large box of Borax is quite cheap as well.
Now, your rose took approximately 7 hours to get to this state of crystalization, and it came out beautifully, although a tad bit thick. So, I'm thinking that maybe 5½ to 6 hours might be a more optimal time for a nice delicate coat of crystals.
Thank you for this idea. I still remember my grandmother used to make crystal landscapes in small fish bowls using borax, food coloring. She used to form the landscape shape using heavy aluminum foil, then add the liquid mixture into the bowl until it just covered the foil. I loved to sit and watch these strange alien landscapes come alive and start growing. The only downside was strong copper smell from the reaction between the borax and the foil.

I was thinking “I wonder what a sting of Ivy would look like???” Hmmmmm. AND the best part is you can use the cheapest and ugliest flowers from the dollar store and they will still look like a MILLION dollars!!!
I have been making beautiful silk flower bouquets using clear glass vases with NICER Silk flowers as part of the arrangement and I place them in a VERY slightly tinted resin in a clear vase and arrange them while the Resin settles and even put a bit of moss on top. People think they are REAL. I used a few Peonies in one and EVERY person that comes over asks how I can afford Peonies this time of year LOL.
ORCHIDS are the BEST and some little succulents in a shallow clear bowl that is supposed to be a vase, I did that with the plastic succulents in the resin as well as some drift wood and moss. GORGEOUS. Got the idea from a “shee shee” store and they were about $175 START for the SMALL ones!!!!
Good luck doll and I am going to try THIS with Ivy!!!

Adding the powder to the liquid and measuring a dissolved solid in a liquid while doing your measurement is combining a solid and a liquid with a total combination for a final measured weight. You will find if you measure the Borax when it is in its solid form, you will use less than attempting a proper measure while dissolving it.
Try it as a liquid and a solid, weighing each separately and then add them and look at the scale. Another kink in this is that the temperature of the water will fluctuate in weight depending on the temperature of the water.
500ml of H2O will weigh differently if it is frozen than it will if it is boiling…… 🤷🏼‍♀️
Best to always measure your ingredients in their purse state and THEN mix them once you have the amounts required for your “recipe”. You will have the best outcome if you are reconstituting/dissolving a solid into a liquid by doing it this way.

I made a flower after watching this video. Thanks for sharing what you've learned. I made some crystals a few years ago with my granddaughter but absolutely cannot remember what we used.

That turned out beautifully! My Aunt use to do roses like that for wedding table centerpieces. She dried hers just like you did but she used those floral blocks that you wet down. Julie my Aunt also used those Styrofoam shapes...like the egg ones & made absolutely stunning eggs & she did it layer by layer with colors like when you dye Easter eggs. She was absolutely a true artist. She made things that you thought were extremely expensive by how they turned out but spent pennies. It's just a idea. Maybe do what she did & try the Styrofoam eggs. Easter is coming. Something to think about. Watching you & how excited you get when they come out was just like my Aunt. ❤

    Absolutely Beautiful! I have
2 questions( that others have asked as well): after fully harden “Do the crystals gradually fall off? AND: does putting a sealer on, prevent this, if it does? Please answer, as we all want to know. Thank you & look forward to your other videos!!

Love this! I'm a huge fan of the Borax. Boron being the 5th element and one that helped to create life on earth has sooooo many huge benefits and healing abilities. Google injecting cancerous tumors with Boron, to get an idea of how awesome this stuff is. Now, because of this awesome video aI'm going to go play and make some crystals myself. I made some tiny resin birds a while back. I'm going to shape some pipe cleaners into a nest shape and grow crystals on them so my little birds will have a magical sparkling nest to lay in. Thank you 💛

Came out beautiful. Just a thought but, if you make a tiny hole in the pizza box and insert the stem - like you did with the Styrofoam - you could hold onto the stem with the flower on one side of the cardboard and your hand holding the stem on the other side and twirl the flower to meet the glue without getting glue on your hand. Then, if you put a peg on the stem to stop the flower slipping, you could invert the whole shebang and have the flower hang into the borax container withoutneeding the styrofoam part at all. You could move the peg along the stem to get the height right too. 😊
