Can u do that with the slo mo guys that would be awesome
Talie Mcculloch yeah would love to see that
Awesome idea!
Burst the balloon just inches above the Borax.
Tony Connolly Finally a decent idea.
They kinda like like ice when they get in the water
at least we know that it does not turn into slime.
Shawn Orillosa he used " super glue" not " elimers or adhesive glue"
Shawn Orillosa i made slime but because it was my first time it wasn't so successful. It was but after some time it was harden down
😜😝
Shawn Orillosa it will make slime if you only add a little bit of super glue but they ‘over activated’ it cos the pot was full of borax solution
Elizabeth Riak it won't work
Astounding. This guy knows that superglue is cyanoacrylate, knows that it's catalyzing withe the boric acid in borax... and yet doesn't understand how water balloons need to be full in order to pop.
I wonder what Gallium does when mixed with superglue during its liquid state. Would the metal still melt? Or would it forever stay a solid? Maybe the King Of Random should try it.
humm, i'd do it with some gallium arsenide then expose the cyanoacrilate to ultraviolet... you might get some interesting colors.
wouldn't be nicer to have some fluorescent plastic.....
2 next steps. 1: adding the hot borax solution to the glue... essentially reverse what your doing. 2: a supersoaker full of the glue squiring into the borax solution.
put the borax inside an egg inside the superglue, let cure and remove the eggshell using vinegar or a strong acid... then cut it in half....
Hammerslap or take two separate nozzles and make them combined an impact has like a projectile web
That gives me another idea. have alternating tubes of the 2 compounds built into the hull of a boat, float boat out into water. slice side of boat and see if it "instant-repairs" the hull of the boat.
Hammerslap or pressure tube systems
Hammerslap has
I can imagine someone creating a foam-glue trap with that, like you step on a mine thing, and then it surrounds your foot in a sticky foam, trapping you there.
"Catalyzing" means dropping the activation energy required for a chemical reaction to happen faster. Every exergonic reaction happens spontaneously, but this doesn't mean they all happen fast. The polymerisation of cyanoacrylate without Borax happens in a few seconds to minutes if exposed to air (our standard super glue reaction). But if Borax is added, the polymerisation happens much faster (note: assumingly. Did you try it without Borax?), because the Borax reduces the activation energy of the polymerisation reaction. The Borax catalyzes (accelerates) the polymerisation (chain building) of the cyanoacrylate (hardened glue). If the Borax isn't being consumed in the process of the reaction, we can call the Borax a catalyst. But pls don't say "The superglue catalyzes immediately on contact with the boric acid" or "The super glue is catalyzing catastrophically and immediately with the Borax solution". Correct would be "The superglue polymerizes immediately on contact with the boric acid" and so on.
try mixing superglue directly with borax, without addinging water, and try pouring superglue to water without borax as a test
ihavE noideafornamE first of all, great name! And second, that would be using the scientific method to determine the cause of the reaction, so yes that is exactly what they should do. Another thing that they should do is to glue several duplicate joints together and spray half of them with a borax solution to see if it will work as an accelerant to cure the glue deeper in the joint, or if it only works on the surface. By applying it to half of the joints, they could also determine how it affects the strength of the joints after all the joints are cured.
David Scott it’s just going to harden instantly again but will actually hold instead of being brittle from being diluted.
You can do the same and get better results with baking soda. I’m betting they only used borax to try and make the video idea seem unique, when it’s in fact just disguised as new by using the less common borax instead of baking soda.
My thoughts exactly. The chemistry behind why superglue works is that the hydroxide ions in water present in air catalyze the polymerization of the CA to form a hard resin. My guess is that this was actually the reaction with water and that borax had nothing to do with it.
EDIT: So I just tried it. You see the same result in plain water (although it spreads out, but I imagine it's because I'm only using drop sized amounts that don't break the surface of the water, rather than spraying large streams into water). Which is frustrating cause my idea I posted in the last video was to put it directly in water like they did here.
Brady Anderson it’s mostly the borax, water only makes it harden slightly but won’t make it expand with gasses like borax, baking soda makes it harden almost instantly into a rock and is actually used in small aviation filling repairs
Mom:what r u watching its bed time

Ok i know, i know im late but can you put food coloring in liquid nitrogen? To see if the food coloring freezes or it makes the liquid nitrogen colored
Edit: or can you try to make colored liquid nitrogen?.... plssssssss plssssss do this plssss
Rienvel De Los Santos it will just freeze
They've done this before
Colour*
Mindy B In America we say “color” instead of “colour.”
Mindy B *color we are American
in chemistry we did a experiment and we put styrofoam in acetone and it melted. I want to know why and what is it
Because acetone is an acid and so the acetone burns the styrofoam and then turns it into liquid
If you put acetone on polypropylene it will melt it. Then you can put into a mold and it will solidify again into a new shape.
yashwant joshi No it’s not an acid- it’s a ketone. The reason why the styrofoam “melted” was it actually dissolved into solution because both styrofoam and liquid acetone are non-polar, making styrofoam soluble in it.
It creates a form of Napalm.
Acetone is a solvent
I guess super glue can do anything
Hi mate
OMG you are everywhere.

What happens when you have a bucket of superglue and put a drop of borox in it
Donovan Tohill SLIME???
OskarxTv55 YasuoMain noooo.....
Donovan Tohill it will harden in a few seconds
OskarxTv55 YasuoMain super glue and Pva glue is a different mixture :3
Not -BOROX- you spelled wrong *_BORAX_*
You should make like little bombs that are compartmentalized in to two halofs one with super glue and one with war borax water then when you throw it the two mix sticking your target in plastic stuff
Sloughyzero 15 The borax solution can be cold and it will still work.
So it'd be like the canons used on mr incredible in syndrome's secret lair?
AndrewCTV that's exactly what I was thinking
I think this is just a simple polymerization using a borate ion (from the borax) as a nucleophile. From what I can tell there is no catalyst and its just a reaction between the cyanoacrylate and borax
David Lee I thought that it was anionic polymerization
this drove me nuts too. Every time he said catalyze I think he meant to say polymerize
I came looking in the comments for the smart people I found them but I don't have anything to add

Wow! Super Glue + Borax == a mattress commercial! I NEVER would have expected that!
Ok, got do this in a Vacuum.
I was gonna suggest this, but you did it for me!
Then hit it with molten salt
sadly boric acid solution will just evaporate
david tappe v
No
Dip your hand in the superglue then put it in the solution
That would be amazing
Olivia Lam they probably assumed that he would do it with a glove
Yes, but I assume he is referring to the fact that the reaction releases a lot of energy in the form of heat, which can burn him through the glove.
What if you have a large balloon full of the superglue and a smaller balloon filled with the borax solution that is placed inside the larger balloon. Then you pop the borax balloon. Will the expanding reaction pop the superglue balloon? I am not sure how you would pull this off but the result would be super interesting :)
Notice how it floats when interacted with borax or comes to my mind that this stuff could be manipulated into a life jacket or a emergency boat float or traps etc . He should see how much weight it can hold at the quantities of usage
Keondin Perry where ya going to get super hot dissolved borax from though?
Masher ,and also it’s glue, so you’ll also would need to have some type of protection to don’t get sticky
Masher Boats have engines right and that engine is powered by a component that has ignited fire . So it could be some type of emergency bag with borax that can handle heat on bottom of a emergency container with glue and when both reach their limited temperatures they can mix with each other after the mechanism for the emergency borax float is pulled
I can’t really explain it but I know their is a way
Keondin Perry this is actually a very smart and cool idea cause they would take up so much less space. Also it doesn’t need to be super hot borax water it can just be any water with borax but itll be a bit slower
Wouldn't it be dangerous if the glue went into contact with a fire? Doesnt that just make a fire hazard on every seat on a plane if it is used for a life vest?
Glow Stick Fluid + Borax + Water + Super Glue. That would be cool.
King or anyone else that can help...
This is absolutely AWESOME. I do a lot of Diorama art and the random textures of doing this are off the hook.
However, I need it to be rock solid rigid.
Is there an additive or trick I can use to help with that? Thank you all SO very much! Thank you!
Imagine the tentacles reaching out from a monster... O.O So awesome!
Baking soda makes Krazy glue into like a two part epoxy
YOU WILL NOT BELIVE WHAT SUPER GLUE WILL DO IN BORAX!! Insert ali-A intro here
You should have told why this happened. We want to know the science behind it.
D C he told that in the video just not clearly enough he said the super glue catalyses when in contact with the borax hot water solution but he didn't say how the reaction works or why. So yeah it's half told. And i realize while writing this that how less he actually told us lol.
Borax catalyses super glue ultra fast as it leaks. It's very little information, but you can get what happens from here.
you cringey indian kids...
JEZEN,
ME? 😕
He's trying so hard to sound "sciencey" if you will as is lmao
Its Oddly satisfying watching it expand..
I'm kinda disappointed that you didn't cover your glove with it, then stick it in the solution
Seriousley?
Read my first post.
If he did his hand would be stuck
Netts uhhh... not really it was before this... literally
it would've burnt his hand pretty badly
TheMarlaskoMeta - Not if he takes his glove off, covers it, and drops it into the solution. Then he can get another glove to take it out with.
This could make a cool practical effect for alien guts lol
What if there were a gun that shot super glue at a target, and then shot borax to cure the super glue in place!? That could possibly result in an awesome spy weapon!
Use 2 gloves and in the middle, fill it with supoer glue and then sumerge it in the borax solution and poke it to make a super glue Glove.
Borax=Lorax=trees=ducks Thekingofrandom LOGIcS ^^
You should do a version 2 of this where it's an underwater explosion with that in it. Like a firework inside the superglue balloon, you could use an electric match to light it, should be pretty cool
What if you froze the superglue and put it in the borax solution?
Tomato Face Delayed reaction?
It looks like Tissue
The orange one looks like Calamari
Instant snow in a vacuum chamber!!! Please Do For a Video! I hope it has an awesome reaction! Can’t wait!
My wife asked me to pass her lipstick but I accidentally passed her a glue stick.
She still isn’t talking to me.
OOOOOOOOOOOF
Now put super glue in liquid nitrogen
Great idea
That was very cool and unexpected! I liked the leaking balloon better! GREAT VIDEO! THANKS
Now i just want to see if you can make Oobleck with Super Glue
Ilya Zharkov Not Possible because it doesn't make things thicken and fall to the bottom of the bowl, thats why u need cornstarch.
Yeah, maybe don't breathe in the fumes of ant poison and glue mixed together. Maybe
No... it's ok. He's got gloves on. 👍

Borax is used as flux
It's not a threat to people
Borax and boric acid is not the same
Fill a bucket with water and borax mixture and pour a gallon of super glue in and make a sculpture!
Coat your glove in it and dip it in the borax.
Superglue curing is highly exothermic, he WILL burn himself.
Wupme use the ove glove
His hand would be stuck
Ahem,he could hurt himself badly
Fiona Embleton - He can take his glove off, over it, and then drop his glove in the solution. Then he can get another glove.
Could you do that in a mold?
that would be amazing
Fill the balloon with super glue, attach an air hose. Insert balloon in borax solution, inflate balloon till it pops
For me it looks like chicken nuggets/stripes
same xD
Man! I am a graphic desiner and I found the glue-borax logo crown just amazing!
...This is what happens inside of your intestines when you eat McDonalds..
This could be some kind of art(ish) Challenge
What happens when you put super glue in liquid glass or can you still light gun powder if its mixed with super glue.??? 🤔🤔🙂🤗🙂
Zion Ricks what is liquid gas. its either a liquid or a gas
alex rodic i think he means that the gas is liquid
alex rodic you mean liquid nitrogen?
alex rodic
Unless the chemical has reached a Supercritical state, then it's pretty much a liquid and a gas.
Omg guys, I'd think he meant liquid gasoline. You know, the stuff you fill your cars with
yes this is 2 years later but the impressive no knock and run delivery of a expensive item at 3:40 is very reassuring (ups judging by the brown uniform so not unexpected )

Catalysing used incorrectly so many times it hurts
blame companies for it. Because CA activator is also sometimes sold as catalyst.
Ben clark finally someone mentions it!
I was thinking the same thing...
Joseph Fowden yeah he needs to pick up a dictionary
Lmao I was thinking that too
2 more experiments : 1) use it in a mold. 2) make a machine that mixes a whole bunch of it instantaneously.
You have to let them harden. Then:
Set on fire
Vacuum chamber
Hydraulic press
Microwave
Don't forget liquid nitrogen and metal casting
You forgot slicing it with a 1000°c knife
You should fill a balloon with super glue then pure borax to fill up the balloon
Kinda like coke and mentos
I'd swap in the word 'precipitate' for 'catalyze' for more nerdy chem points. Catalysts make a reaction easier/faster/more thorough but are not themselves involved in the final product. Precipitates are the solids that form in a reaction of liquids, or liquid that forms in a reaction of gases (clouds precipitate rainwater)!
Mix cotton and syrup than add a drop of water and then add baking soda
That's one awkward combination to read. Do it TKOR.
What’s that supposed to do?
you should cover something with super glue and then make a mold and see how well it works.
btw could you make a turtle if you do?
If wouldn't come off :/

What would happen if you were to melt that "plastic"? Would you be able to get a smoother plastic in the end? I would be very excited to see something like that!
Did they hire a animator recently or something?
an animator*
Try melting it and doing some other experiments with it like microwaving it or lighting it on fire!
Daniel Rose check mine as well as comment also
Oh, sorry I cant find it but did I do the same idea as you?
I would hardly call any of those dangerous ideas experiments. An experiment is a test to see if a hypothesis is true or not. If there is no hypothesis, it is not an experiment. You are just asking for a dangerous video. Super glue, or cyanoacrylate is highly flammable and produces toxic fumes.
Of course but that's what "The Dome!" is for. :)

Any idea what gas was released with the reaction. Cyanide being the primary ingredient?
ScubaTony Anschutz idk
Likely just vaporized cyanoacrylate or water. There's no side products in this polymerization, but this is a pretty exothermic reaction so there's a bunch of heat evolved which could vaporize the unreacted monomer.
Actually, it's pretty interesting because you can mix Elmer's Glue and Super Glue to get a similar effect. Another thing that's quite weird is that you can put Super Glue on styrofoam, melt it, and then add Elmer's Glue to that mixture of styrofoam + Super Glue. You're definitely correct about the exothermic reaction since the reaction can get rather toasty.
That does have an amazing resemblance to coral. I wonder how long it can hold up under water. IE: as a decoration in a fish tank. Will it break down after a time in regular water? Or, can a cast be made using the outline of the superglue+borax solution so that another material can be used to form a coral-like structure for decoration?
It seems that your videos target demographic is changing lately. They seem to be for a much younger population 😑

Well dont blame them they usually get ideas from other people too
What happens if you put chocolate mousse in a vacuum chamber
You know when you buy some salt water taffy, and find a bunch of them stuck together... That's what this reminds me of.
This is like the instant cure spray you can buy for super glue
2fastHarley it probably is the exact the thing they sell or an extremely similar variation
Bertdell Estep I know most of them are made from an acetone base. When you spray CA glue with the instant cure it remains shinny & clear and doesn’t cloud up, expand or turn extremely brittle like it does in the video.
Sorry but using the instant cure sprays usually is the reason CA turns cloudy and white when curing.
Thats why a lot of people try to avoid activator sprays when its a visible glue joint.
2fastHarley I was thinking silly string myself.
Since super glue cures from the presence of hydroxide ions, i wonder if this effect is specific to borax or would it work with any other strongly basic solution like sodium hydroxide?
Cool video sorry that your hands fell off bro :] QC
What do you mean
What would happen if you mix superglue and liquid metal?
super glue is highly flammable so idk an explosion?
Grunkle Stan Lee what about a metal that is liquid at, or around room temperature? Mercury? Gallium? Indium/gallium alloy?
i guess thats fair but mercury is super dangerous and those other metals are pretty expensive
Do more of this guys! In different ways :)

Can you start a motor and when it’s started pour super glue into it and see what happens ?!
The first balloon didn’t pop because the hole kept getting immediately filled with glue, holding the edges of the hole together. The second one had air in it so the hole you made with the needle didn’t get filled with glue allowing the balloon to rupture, instead of leak.

wait ...you say ...when we ever arrive on a planet that is covered in a hot borax / water solution we can safely travel in boats and submarines they will never leak as long as they have a hull filled with superglue ....

What would happen if you put dry ice in lava
He already put dry ice in molten aluminum, which pretty much is the same thing (I guess). It didnt melt as fast because of the liedenfrost effect. That is when the dry ice slowly melts, creating a gas barrier between the ice itself and the molten aluminum, slowing the meltimg process.
There are videos somewhere on UA-cam of people throwing a large jug of water into the top of a live volcano. The lava was so dense that it actually trapped the steam under the surface for quite a while. Same story with a propane tank that they threw into the volcano.
Cobblestone, duh :V
