      @@suzyrebelo they came out beautiful! I can’t thank you enough for the excellent video! I have one question though, one of my poinsettia flowers petals are too heavy to stay up. Do you know of a way to prop them up and still be pretty?

    • @suzyrebelo
      @suzyrebelo  Рік тому +1

      I know what you mean, they are even nicer in real life. I would try and hot glue a thin wire to the back of the petal for support , leave a a bit of wire to wrap and secure it to the stem...or, use heavy craft paper, green, cut a circle big enough to attach to the underside of the flower without showing...a couple of inches wide...make a cut into the centre of the circle. Slide the circle under the flower, it should create a support for all the petals , if it does, hot glue it in place. I hope this makes sense and helps...happy flower making

    If you try using a adhesive spray and spray it on the flowers first then kind of dip it in the borax powder that’s been sifted in a bowl then dip it in your solution you might get better results.. Thank you for your video you’ve been a big help.

      Adding fine white glitter and crushed glass brings them up to a different level. Also if you squeeze the left over borax together and leave to dry you get a wonderful crystal to use on other products.

      Oh great. So glad you liked this. If you use the clear spray to seal them , test one flower with just a very light mist or it will dull the crystals and turn them white. I had another viewer mention this so I just wanted to share that. Happy flower making and thanks for watching.

    • @suzyrebelo
      @suzyrebelo  Рік тому +2

      Hello. The flowers take a good 4 hours or so to dry. This depends on how warm and dry the house is. I actually allowed all the flowers to dry overnight. I did them in batches. This helped when I spray sealed them because they were really nicely set and dry, easy to handle. I’m sure you’ll create wonderful arrangements that your family and friends will love. Happy holidays. Thanks for watching.

    Is it fair to assume that the more porous the material, the better it works?

    • @suzyrebelo
      @suzyrebelo  Місяць тому +1

      Hi there. Porous ,yes, but also textured. Pipe cleaners work excellent at creating crystals because they both absorb the borax water and they have texture for the crystals to grab on to. Hope this helps and happy crafting.

      Wonderful. If you decide to spray them , do the lightest spray from a distance. If you spray too much, the crystals become dull. You don’t need to spray, they keep very well. Me be still look great after a year of sitting on display. Enjoy.

    Hi Suzy! Can this be done with fresh juniper or spruce cuttings?

    • @suzyrebelo
      @suzyrebelo  2 місяці тому +2

      Hi there. That would be gorgeous but I don’t know if it would work. The borax crystals may not adhere to fresh plant matter surface…like I tried with the tangerine. Also, the crystals may drop off as the plant dries out. I believe the borax needs something that is somewhat porous to grab on to. I say that because the leaves I used that had a plasticized surface did not create as many crystals. Having said that , it’s fun to experiment. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching.

    • @suzyrebelo
      @suzyrebelo  3 місяці тому +1

      Hello. It works well on fabrics like silk or polyester flower petals and leaves. It didn’t work as well on materials that weren’t as absorbent. Some of my leaves had a plastic like finish and the crystals didn’t form as much. Therefore, it depends on the material you’re working with. Definitely worth testing it. If it work the tree would be beautiful. Hope this helps and thanks for watching.

    My crystals are going chalky white. I sprayed them with lacquer and yhey are still turning? Solution please!

    • @suzyrebelo
      @suzyrebelo  9 місяців тому

      Hi there. Hmmm. I’m not sure why they are turning chalky. They do turn more opaque white with time. I used a very light coat of clear acrylic spray… a mist you could say, not direct spray. Perhaps the lacquer spray you used had a reaction to the borax or perhaps there was too much spray. Were your flowers covered with sparingly crystals before you sprayed? You can always skip spraying and just make sure the flowers are kept in a dry place. I still have my branch flowers on display and they have maintained their sparkle.

      @@suzyrebelo hey Susie. I made crystals and sprayed them with clear lacquer. What is acrylic spray?

    • @suzyrebelo
      @suzyrebelo  9 місяців тому +1

      Lacquer is solvent based and acrylic is water based. I don’t know the chemical composition. I’m only guessing it’s the spray if the flowers were sparkly before you used it. Also, I literally sprayed in the air and let it mist the flowers. I used very little.

      If you don’t like your flowers and you think they are ruined, test one flower by soaking it in water to see if the crystals dissolve , then try soaking in borax again. I know it’s discouraging when projects don’t turn out... It does work , just like you see in the video.
