Dude, I think you might be right on there with Grapploct's inspirations, especially with that last bit with the British Empire. It fits too much not to be an inspiration, it's probably not even a stretch, given how deep the Pokemon team dives into history and local lore of what inspired the designs of the creatures. It just makes all the sense in the world, natural sense at that.
I've been watching this channel for about 2 years now and with every video I learn something new. I just wanna say thank you for teaching me so much over these 2 years and for all the things I'm sure I'll learn here in the future!
i actually like the headcanon that Grapploct is not actually of an octopus descent, but rather a human that lost to an octopus in an octopus wrestling match, was dragged down to sea, and evolved over time to be a part octopus, part wrestler hybrid. This would explain why they have the mexican wrestling masks, prefer fighting on land most of the time, and usually always return to the sea after a fight. Just my headcanon tho haha
I'm a fan of Crabominable, personally. I used it on my team during my first playthrough of Sun and it served pretty well in the E4 when it finally evolved (even if it fainted the most out of anyone on my team)
And why Eiscue is not ice/water type but mono-ice type? Edit: but water-type also makes sense for Eiscue and Grapploct because they learn a plenty of water-type moves (also with TMs and TRs)

Also Kubfu/Urshifu?
He did another vid on those two.
I'm kinda loving the fact he did the whole "FINALLY A WORTHY OPPONENT!" Thing on machoke and ran up on him at the beach. Kinds made me like him more.
I cought one earlier today and have yet to try them out but they seem cook
Dude, I think you might be right on there with Grapploct's inspirations, especially with that last bit with the British Empire. It fits too much not to be an inspiration, it's probably not even a stretch, given how deep the Pokemon team dives into history and local lore of what inspired the designs of the creatures. It just makes all the sense in the world, natural sense at that.
Also because it’s fighting style is based off of tai chi which water bending from avatar is also based on
2:50 I can't believe he wrote dyslexia in Nepali/Indian word
I think graploct experienced octopus wrestling and adapted to it
Game Freak: "Yup this guy is totally right its not like we just forgot to add those secondary types or anything like that...."
I've been watching this channel for about 2 years now and with every video I learn something new. I just wanna say thank you for teaching me so much over these 2 years and for all the things I'm sure I'll learn here in the future!
Pincurchin: "Am I a joke to you?"
i actually like the headcanon that Grapploct is not actually of an octopus descent, but rather a human that lost to an octopus in an octopus wrestling match, was dragged down to sea, and evolved over time to be a part octopus, part wrestler hybrid. This would explain why they have the mexican wrestling masks, prefer fighting on land most of the time, and usually always return to the sea after a fight. Just my headcanon tho haha
The Crabrawler explanation makes sense (too bad it can learn Bubble...)
Well, Grapploct's mouth is kind of in the anatomically correct position
I'm a fan of Crabominable, personally. I used it on my team during my first playthrough of Sun and it served pretty well in the E4 when it finally evolved (even if it fainted the most out of anyone on my team)
I’m lucky to be in a different time zone
Lockstin:every Pokémon in Galar is British
Me:Pikachu is British now
Lockstin: “Octopi represent countries overstepping their bounds.”
Me: (immediately thinks of H.Y.D.R.A.)
Octopi isn't an accurate term
@@BlueMageDaisen why
@@bananaforscale1283 Refer to the plural comment above.
@@GeorgeDCowley I mean why octopi isn't an accurate form?
And why Eiscue is not ice/water type but mono-ice type?
Edit: but water-type also makes sense for Eiscue and Grapploct because they learn a plenty of water-type moves (also with TMs and TRs)
Octopus representing Japan is just perfect
Yes.
Why is it not water type?
Lockstin: Grapploct is a filthy colonizer
Yay 3!!!! I literally refreshed my page45 seconds after he posted this man, dammmm.
Kinda sounds like a missed opportunity for a sweet rivalry between grapploct and poliwrath o.o
I just realised that grapaloct is the crabrawler of gen 8
But better, and I even missed out on using it, so my opinion isn't crazy good, but it might as well be.
So then what's the Crabrawler of gen 6?
Lady Azurafied I don’t know
@@threecheeseburrito Clawitzer?
@@runningoncylinders3829 Clawitzer is actually part water type I believe
Grapploct: tries to control land with no water typing.
Groudon: this boi going down.
Why is it stupid that there not water type? Dragonair and Dratini are found in water but no one cries about them not being water type. So like what the hell?
Sea Serpents are mythological and can be whatever they want.
Octopus is a real thing that exists in waters way better than above it.
*that they’re
Dratini
Cries or cares?
Grammar police here.
You’ve been arrested for bad grammar.
They're resistant to water-type attacks? maybe?
@@MagicalBread Mine was worse. Existing better? Maybe I should learn how to phrase better, bread person. :P
I’m going to be honest. I screamed when I saw Grapploct crawling towards me...
No one:
Literally no one:
Not even the people watching this in 3am:
Smoof: *"NO! It's beautiful!
Also me. I think its cute, not beautiful
I don't have anything againts it so yeah im not gonna judge that
@@DarkRade Yeah. It is totally fine. It is funny though. Have a like
It’s pretty beautiful.
The fact that the octopus also symbolised japan, has to be the best foreshadowing i have ever seen
That’s like saying whatever that *ICONIC* flying dragon from Gen 1 that breathes fire isn’t dragon
Charizard
Yeah. Almost like it has the characteristics of 3 types but can only be 2 of them...
@Mr Cheez66 his name is lucifer
I think it’s called Sausage
Grapploct's enemy is Golisopod, a bug and a water type Pokemon.
That is based on Golisopod's Pokedex entry. 😁
if poliwrath gets to be water type, why can't grapploct? what they hell is with this gen and mono fighting types?
In Gen 8, Gamefreak finally realized not every aquatic creature needs to be water type. That's why.
@@herowither12354 ...how does that make any sense?
@@gregorymirabella1423 Tell me. Does every land dwelling creature need to be grass, ground, or normal?
Man, this video lifted a question on the back of my mind... Now I'm believing you guys find lots of coincidences not even the creation team of the game ever imagined... LoL
“Sanskrit.” LOL
Not sure if you made this because of my suggestion or were already working on it when you brought up in another video the oddness of Grapploct not being water type, but I'm glad you did it either way. It was an interesting video. Grapploct is one of my favorite Gen8 designs.
That said, while the video was interesting and there is some reasoning there... I still think it should have been part water. It's a more unique type, and I don't think any of it's inspirations would fit less if it was part Water. Ah well.
Got anything on why Pincurchin isn't water type?
"uploaded 11 seconds ago"
😱
Grapploct is seen swimming around in the water. Should’ve been part water, like poliwrath
So it should be a Ground Fighting type 10:41
pretty sure even gamefreak couldn't stretch the idea of there being a ground/fighting octopus
@@connorradcliffe1769 I mean some Octopie bury themselves in the sea floor to hide from predators....so I mean if sanshrew can be ground type because armadillos dig in the dirt I can kind of see them stretch it for a octopus to be ground type too lol
Just because something lives in the water doesn’t make it a water type. Does every Pokémon that lives on land a ground type?
Urshifu is just based off of star platinum.
DUH
Heck ye xD
That makes so much sense!!!
Fighting Dark because Jotaro has an edgy aura and he punches stuff and Fighting Water because he becomes a marine biologist.
STAR PLATINUM
ZA WAAARUDOOOOO
@@Silancet I can only move in stopped time for 2 seconds
Oopsie
So it‘s the same type of Pokemon as Star Platinum.
Hey technically crabrawler could be a water type because coconut crabs a BORN in water and live there for a bit as placton they actually lose the ability to breathe under water so you could make a case for it as a water type then
Early Gnoggin SQUAD
02:48 what the hell is a Sandscrit? Lockstin, don't mess with my boy Surskit you will only get hurt
So it basically comes out to fight people then goes back to the water imagine your just walking next to the water and then it just jumps you
2:07 I get the sense that every (certain ice/fighting yeticrab-ish thing) would pat this you(Lockstin) on the back for at least explaining these things.
I’m honestly surprised it took this long to have another octopus Pokémon that isn’t octillery
Why not Nihilego? Nihilego might not be a fighting type but it's based off of a jellyfish/sea jelly/medusafish, a creature notorious for being 90-98% water.
Edit: Inkay and Malamar are squid as well, but I guess they don't need an explanation considering how they entrance their targets (psychic) and how people use them for evil and unspeakable deeds (dark).
This is me in my very first Pokémon game, Moon:
Me: *attacks Crabrawler with a Grass type move*
Crabrawler: *takes it well*
Me: *surprised Pikachu face*
You know it’s a serious threat when a octopus ditches aquatic life all together just to whoop your butt.
I've been learning about coconut crabs lately and those things could rip you in half with no problem, they immobilise prey by breaking all their limbs with their giant iron-grip claws. Pretty brutal.
They can also become poisonous depending on their diet, a poison/fighting type would be interesting..
theres croagunk and toxicroak
Nobody:
Literally nobody at all:
Every single being in existence:
Lockstin: *GRAPPLOCT'S M O U T H*
Lockstin: every gen 8 pokemon is Britisch ...
me: Eisceu is Britisch ????
They punch so hard that they remove their Water typing
I like all this talk on Grapaloct. I use him in my mono fighting team!
Lockstin: and this thing is fighting water
Me: WAIT! That’s illegal
I think Grapoloct uses its one tentacle around its middle tentacles because its supporting them for standing up.
You know I saw this as a meme and it bugged the hell out of me, but your video was actually really informative. And not just from a Pokémon standpoint. You earned this Like.
Fun fact: Octopuses have been observed punching or slapping nearby fish seemingly out of spite. This may be to keep them in line whenever they team up to find prey and the fish is not letting the octopus get any.
Good to know the editor is a man of culture. Crabominable is great and I don't care what the haters say.
