Thanks for the video. I have a 2016 base model Veloster and I have put way too much money into mods for it, wish I had a turbo. I put a whole new exhaust, cold air intake, wheels, coilovers which lowered it 1 3/4 inches. Still super slow but she do be looking nice tho.

Its got the front grill like the blue veloster. the papers do not say Turbo anywhere, and it doesnt have the Turbo badge either, but the engine is a 1.6L, and it has the Tech package. So is it a turbo or not? if it is, why would they make it a "low-key" turbo? lol
There is one model I didn't mention in this video and that's the "ReMix" model. This was basically a NAV with elements from the Turbo model along with some other possible add ons like the tech package. It's very possible that's what you have.
I just came across your video and am looking forward to get the 2014 turbo automatic model. So my questions is that does the turbo comes with sunroof/panoramic and also does it come with keyless entry and foldable side mirrors? I’m confused because you didn’t talk about side mirror folding as opposed to other reviews i saw somewhere.
If you mean automatic side mirror folding, you may be looking at a Korean spec video because I have NEVER seen any auto side folding mirrors on this and my friend has a 2016 Turbo Premium with the Tech Package. As for what the Turbo model comes with, it CAN come with a panaromic sunroof but not all Turbo models do. Finally, I do believe every Turbo model aside from the R Spec/Rally Edition come with keyless entry and push to start. Hope this helps.

@@Chayness I’ve got one scheduled for June 4th but a buddy of mine had his done then it went down hill from there, they want him to pay $6000 for a new motor. So he’s going to try to have the “update “ reversed due to it running fine before.
I have a stupid question that possibly you may be able to answer. Do you know what type of fuel the Veloster Turbo takes? I’ve tried searching it up and I can’t find anything
It takes Regular Unleaded/ 87 Octane. It's said that adding Premium doesn't add horsepower but once you start adding mods to the Veloster Turbo (if you plan to go that route) it'll help keep things in check.
Chayness one question, can you add the push start button to the rspec? I’m looking to buy one 2017 rspec but would love the push button:( hope you can reply thanks!!
I'm sure you could but it wouldn't work the same as if it came with the push start. It would either require you re-key the whole car or have a separate key/sensor just for the push start.
It will bolt on but i hear some modification is required. it's not 100% plug and play but it's minor things. I'd advise looking at Veloster forums for this.
if you have fully loaded model, i'm going to assume it's for auto wipers? I don't have a sensor located where you mentioned so i'm guessing thats what that is
You load a USB flash drive with the image you want. Put it into the USB port on the car, Click the SETUP button and than DISPLAY. Make sure you SAVE the picture to the car. And than assign that as the wallpaper. It will only show up when you turn off the stereo but it will be there as long as you SAVED IT to the stereo. It will reset always if you only applied it from the USB.
Chayness kewl thanx bro Also, the R-Spec is a beast! Really needed this vid too so im glad you made on of it. Answered a lot of questions I had of the different versions 👌
Thanks for posting this video. I'm interested in this car, specifically a 2017 base version. How does the Turbo model change the cost of upkeep? Does the turbo tend to wear out faster than the base? What do you think? Thanks! :)
Honestly I don't think there would be a huge difference. Life wise however I do believe a non turbo might last you longer but thats arguable and depends how long you want to keep the car for. A turbo is a moving part and as all moving parts go, it will more than likely have to be fixed or replaced someday but probably not until you're way past the typical life of the car. Easily beyond 100k miles
Just bought a Vitamin C colored 2016 Veloster Turbo and I’m enjoying it. Sad about the no sunroof though. Also, you guys should check out the K&N intake upgrade if you haven’t already, has great reviews. That’s going to be my first add on along with the Veloster fuel door upgrade.

Yes sir. The R- Spec is basically the turbo without the extra fancy stuff. I replied with all the details in the other video you also commented on haha
None COME with it as it's considered part of the tech package. It used to be part of the "Ultimate" which was the fully loaded model (even in the 2nd Gen, thats what they call it). You'd be looking for either a Base model w/ Tech or a Turbo Model with Tech. The R Spec and Rally Edition can not have the Tech Package added just FYI
There are 3 different transmission options. Traditional Automatic in some of the older NAV's and supposedly early Turbo models. Manual Transmission, and Dual Cluth (Auto) in some of the newer NAVs and Turbo models.
I have a 16 veloster turbo, I use it as my daily driver. I bought it because I ended up putting 15k on my STI and I wanted something that I thought would be fun to drive. The Veloster that I bought came with 18 inch Rotiform wheels, no spare. It has push to start, my seats is black with orange trim on the side, with the interior panel being the same color and everything else on the outside and inside is the same as the R-Spec. One of my complaint is the seat is so uncomfortable, and it’s rough getting in and out of the car. It sits so low to the ground. Maybe it’s just me because I’m getting old.
no i get that i own a 16 veloster turbo as well and its annoying getting in and out of the car + i can never get the seating position right its always uncomfortable im only 20 years old and im 5'9 so height is not an issue
My son's 2016 turbo doesn't have apple car play. we checked with dealer if this is something that can be downloaded and we were told no. Does anyone have a 2016 Turbo with Apple car play? we'd really appreciate your help. thanks !!!!
Hey! It's actually something that was implemented on 2017 models from what i've heard. You CAN download a software update to add the functionality to older Velosters. Sadly though, the update only works on Velosters with the tech package as those come with a Navigation Media player which is required for the new features. The base Media Player doesn't have enough storage to be able to be upgraded (this info came from my local dealer).
Thank you very much for your response and feedback. Very kind of you. I'm disappointed, but at least we know why my son can't gave this in his 2016 turbo. (you did great job on the video too. We learned a lot.
Thank you guys! I greatly appreciate the kind words and feedback. I empathize with you both as it was something I wanted on mine as well. I got a great deal on mine but the 2017 model came out about 4 months after I purchased mine. What you could do is if you're lucky enough to have a local junk yard, some people have luck finding an OEM Navigation Player and just put that into their Veloster. It should be plug and play. If you have issues with "theft lock" tech. All you have to do is call Hyundai, explain you bought it at a junk yard and they help you remove the lock. Hope this helps as it's something i'm looking into doing as well and hopefully I can do a video on in the future.
Damn for the price I paid for my car I got all the little trinkets in fun stuff for less than $8,000. Here in 2021 a car that has everything that this has for less than $8,000 is a steal in my opinion.
You're right. It all depends on what you value. While in 2021 cars have much more tech involved including mandatory safety features, this car was a steal even back when it was new in 2016.
You mentioned the rear camera being standard on Turbo models, but that is incorrect. It is an upgrade that you can add, however it is not standard. Also, not all Turbo models have a sun roof.
I apologize but I later found out that first year (2013 Turbo Models) didn't come with the camera standard. It seems like they rolled that out around the 2015 models on up.
@@Chayness , I was offered the turbo for 10k , tinted windows with rims. It has about 115 000km on it. Looks great, I'm just concerned about the mileage. What do you think? Is it worth taking seriously? Thank you brotha
Hey bro, I own a 2012 turbo model imported from Korea but the weird thing is that it contains options for both of the the cars you're showing, I'll give some examples while referring to the cars in the video by the color: i have start up button, body kit (blue)with after market skirts, gauge cluster (blue), red leather seats (black), dimension sound system, head lights (black), tail lights (blue) and so on.. seems like a mess, ugh

@@Chayness OK. I know nothing at all about the N model. After watching your videos, I started looking at what's for sale locally, and an ad for the N popped up. So I just wanted to know why you didnt mention it. Well, that explains it. Thanks for your vids and comment.
@@skymiller530 I'm sure you're aware by now but in a nutshell, the N is two things. First, a second gen Veloster (as opposed to the ones on this video). But most importantly.... the "Hardcore" Performance model of the Veloster that forgoes luxury and features for performance goodies such as stiffer suspension, more control over drivetrain modes, and of course, it only comes in manual trans along with the bump from 201 (Veloster Turbo) to up to 275HP in the N Model. It's an amazing car but not for everyone and though affordable for what it is.... it's $28k+ price tag is quite a bit more as opposed to a Veloster R Spec (base turbo model) or even a non turbo model which typically goes for low $20k (and these prices are assuming you buy new.) Great car though haha
lol, good point. They sound similar. The exhaust isn't hugely different. But on the turbo you hear the turbo spool so there's that. Also the bypass valve makes a sound.
Honestly, that's all you really need to know. The biggest difference in parts is the difference between the Turbo and Non-Turbo models. Everything else was either style packages or those with a few extra perks depending on if you preffered tech and luxury or "performance".
I do understand the sentiment of having better looking lighting, but considering a good CAN BUS system with premium HID bulb crystals runs around $100, some people prefer spending that money on performance mods?
@@Chayness nope not possible in my country, all veloster model comes only in Automatic transmissions, and didn't know which version it is but it's advertised as 2015 model 186bhp Veloster turbo, the 'turbo' stitching in on the side edge of the seats, with rays wheels.

Yes you can. Fogs will be different but they more or less bolt on the same. I've also seen Turbo builds use the NAV bumper. It's possible with little work
Well it wasn't meant to be super detailed for the engines. It's simple. You have two options. a 1.6L Turbo, or a 2.0 Naturally Aspirated. This was to show the difference of equipment and aesthetics, not so much numbered specs.

I have a 2013 base and the wheels are 18”x7.5 or 8. I’ve never seen another 2013 base with the same type of wheels; the split 5 spoke. I’ve been very confused about it tbh.
Are you talking about the ones with the chrome inserts?
Chayness nah. They’re a symmetrical split 5 spoke design. Is there any way I can send a picture?
@@avlvelo2688 Yea! askchayness@gmail.com
So the turbo is included in the R spec?
Yes sir. The R- Spec is basically the turbo without the extra fancy stuff. I replied with all the details in the other video you also commented on haha
@@Chayness please lmk what video I can’t decide between an rspec and a turbo
@@diegobendana8927 Depends on you. Do you want automatic or or stick? Do you prefer creature comforts or more sport like feel?
My non turbo has the Dimension stereo system.
Yea you can get them on that model but it comes standard on turbo models. Sorry for the mistake
Which models come with navigation?
None COME with it as it's considered part of the tech package. It used to be part of the "Ultimate" which was the fully loaded model (even in the 2nd Gen, thats what they call it). You'd be looking for either a Base model w/ Tech or a Turbo Model with Tech. The R Spec and Rally Edition can not have the Tech Package added just FYI
I like the Hatsune Miku start screen that you can see at 9:10 - is that standard on the base model?
Yes, you can put an image on any of the models so long as you have a USB drive to export the photos.
So is the RSpec better then the one that just says turbo or is it the other way ?
It's not entirely better but it's more "enthusiast" aimed
Thanks bro perfect
Appreciate the kind words
My son’s FIRST CAR!!!
I'm sure he'll love it!
Are the transmissions the same ?
What do you get in the value edition?
Thats a model they released later and it's mainly a mix between the Basic NAV (GDi) and the NAV with a few add ons. Nothing major.
The tech and style package has the red leather and clothe seats
Damn for the price I paid for my car I got all the little trinkets in fun stuff for less than $8,000. Here in 2021 a car that has everything that this has for less than $8,000 is a steal in my opinion.
You're right. It all depends on what you value. While in 2021 cars have much more tech involved including mandatory safety features, this car was a steal even back when it was new in 2016.
Thanks for doing this. Helps a lot in buying decisions.
Yea no problem! Glad it helped!
What year is your VT
My VT is a 2016
You mentioned the rear camera being standard on Turbo models, but that is incorrect. It is an upgrade that you can add, however it is not standard. Also, not all Turbo models have a sun roof.
I apologize but I later found out that first year (2013 Turbo Models) didn't come with the camera standard. It seems like they rolled that out around the 2015 models on up.
How about the difference in performance? Apparently, base model is too slow
NAV or Non Turbo models are quite weak as opposed to the Turbo Models. NAV's make 132HP as opposed to the Turbo's 201HP
@@Chayness , I was offered the turbo for 10k , tinted windows with rims. It has about 115 000km on it. Looks great, I'm just concerned about the mileage. What do you think? Is it worth taking seriously? Thank you brotha
@@bzorro1 How much did you buy yours for and what year is the Turbo? Also, stick or Auto?
Hey bro, I own a 2012 turbo model imported from Korea but the weird thing is that it contains options for both of the the cars you're showing, I'll give some examples while referring to the cars in the video by the color: i have start up button, body kit (blue)with after market skirts, gauge cluster (blue), red leather seats (black), dimension sound system, head lights (black), tail lights (blue) and so on.. seems like a mess, ugh
Wow thats crazy. It almost sounds like a model I didn't disclose here (because I didn't know about it) called the "Re:Mix" model but i'm sure Korea had their own unique models.
Same for me. Car imported from South Korea. I seem to have all the options across all the models. It's weird. lol VIN says Turbo R-Spec though
I bought my first 2013 Hyundai Veloster
Congrats! That's awesome!
Thank you sir
My only problem that I have is when am reversing sometimes it’s low shake it’s kinda hard to explain
@@familyiseverything3725 It could be choking for air or fuel. Sometimes a good fuel cleaner to clean injectors or seafoam.... though be careful with seafoam as i'm not sure if it's ok for a turbo car lol
Chayness it’s not a turbo I will call car max to have them check it out
Awsome videos thank you. I want a rally because that blue is sexy. Just wish she had push to start
Yea seriously lol
WHY haven't you mentioned anything about the "N" model?
This video was recorded and released before the N model was ever out. I have plenty of other videos that discuss the N model, including the upcoming N Performance products and the N Line models.
@@Chayness
OK.
I have the 2015 r spec and it looks more like the base model gauges.
It was a change they did later after 2015 models. My car is a 2016 R Spec so I guess you missed the change by just a bit
I just bought a Veloster turbo. So sexy.
Glad you like it!
I got a base premium model its a 2013 it has the nicer pedals. Its a 6 speed
Thats awesome
Base model does have Led headlight strip but it's not individaul leds
Oh yea I recently found that out. Thanks man!
My 2013 (non-turbo) veloster has the r-spec interior 🧐
Yea it's for the special edition Re-Mix model I forgot to include lol
My base model has the led strip in the headlight
I also have push to start
you didnt do a rev camparison
lol, good point. They sound similar. The exhaust isn't hugely different. But on the turbo you hear the turbo spool so there's that. Also the bypass valve makes a sound.
My 2016 turbo doesn't have a sunroof
Not true
Still not sure what model I have i know it’s turbo though
Honestly, that's all you really need to know. The biggest difference in parts is the difference between the Turbo and Non-Turbo models. Everything else was either style packages or those with a few extra perks depending on if you preffered tech and luxury or "performance".
Ima put a turbo in my base.
You could. Sky is the limit!
The rspec has a 1.6 not 1.5
Did I say 1.5? My bad, I didn't catch that. I'm wondering if I was thinking Honda with their 1.5T's lol
I have a r-spec is very very fun car to drive
in my opinion, my r-Spec is better than the turbo. judge me if I'm wrong
It depends on your needs. For enthusiasts i'd agree but for people who like bells and whistles, the turbo ultimate is better lol
I just have the base model :( BUT I'm modifying it so I'm good lol :P
as long as you like your car thats all that matters. I respect both Turbo and NAV. You should send me a pic of your car sometime so I can see it :)
My premium didn't come with a sunroof 😐
Oh no way
first mod all Turbos need. HIDs . having Projector headlights with crappy halogen bulbs in them is stupid
I do understand the sentiment of having better looking lighting, but considering a good CAN BUS system with premium HID bulb crystals runs around $100, some people prefer spending that money on performance mods?
I got hids for mine dont regret spending money on them they are a must
3 doors is better than 2, I'm getting one in july 2015 turbo
Haha true.... I hope you love it! I love mine more and more every day.... even more so lately but you'll all see
@@Chayness nope not possible in my country, all veloster model comes only in Automatic transmissions, and didn't know which version it is but it's advertised as 2015 model 186bhp Veloster turbo, the 'turbo' stitching in on the side edge of the seats, with rays wheels.
@@ahmadfaris8044 Oh nice! Sounds interesting
Turbo model doesnt default with a sunroof
Sorry if it sounded that way. You're right, but it is much more common to find that on a normal Turbo model as opposed to the other two. Sorry for making it sound otherwise.

For Turbo's yea lol

Hey! I'll ask around to see if people know. Have you checked Veloster groups on FB by any chance? Veloster World and others like SoCal Veloster are very active and sometimes people sell quite a bit. I'll still ask for you though. Just in case, what state are you in?
Check Car-part.com
Lmao can you put a turbo front bumper on a base model
Yes you can. Fogs will be different but they more or less bolt on the same. I've also seen Turbo builds use the NAV bumper. It's possible with little work
But other then that its a great vedio
Thank you :)
you didnt even talk about the most important part of the car, the engine.
Well it wasn't meant to be super detailed for the engines. It's simple. You have two options. a 1.6L Turbo, or a 2.0 Naturally Aspirated. This was to show the difference of equipment and aesthetics, not so much numbered specs.
I like my veloster. Check out my UA-cam channel.. 2016 turbo.. now weight production. Cost.. and downgrade.
Nice check mine
Your worng on a few things
Yea I sadly was informed of a few things after making this video. I'd revise it but I feel I hate the major ones.
I have a Base premium i have the best stereo that hyundai makes an the push to start. An its the 6 speed manual. I have done a lot to it so it dont look a like a base premium.
