Now when I watch videos like this the Ford Focus ST is no longer in the conversation. Ford made a HUGE MISTAKE by killing all of those car lines especially the Focus & Fusion. These were great cars. The Focus was just completely redone and once again Americans just get to watch from a distance what the rest of the world gets. I can’t stand Americans obsession with SUV’S and crossovers.
Let my girl trade my '13 towards her Cayman, instantly regretted it. I had no idea how much I loved that little beater until it was gone. Im first on the list at my local Hyundai for an N.
I watched a video where the Hyundai rep said Veloster R spec is the base for the N version. Take the R and add all the N Performance changes and you'll have the N. Basically it will have similar options, not Ultimate options, R spec options. No head up, radar cruise etc. A way to keep the $ down. Hyundai is currently developing a 8spd DCT for N model vehicles. Hopefully Veloster N will offer it as well for those wanting one.
👍can't believe I missed this video! Good review! For about 25k I would consider the N if I could get good discount. Lots of options for $25k . CIVIC SI, MUSTANG, Camaro, Challenger, Miata, ect...
Sam Sheth apparently it’s because they test their cars for the Nuremberg or something, their two people in charge of the N division are former M division guys too
They need to bring that exhaust and shifter to the GT Sport. It sounds so much deeper and better. Would love to see some of these higher options available for the manual versions. Thanks for really showing the rear seat room and cargo areas. Glad to see it's a little bigger than I thought.
Great review sir. My 2 dislikes- screen just stuck on the dash and still needs higher power numbers in my opinion. 230hp at least for a turbo “sport” model. Love the looks though
I have a 2015 Veloster turbo. I’ve had it 3 years and put 140k miles on it. Been a great car. I like the look except how the passenger side with 2 doors looks. It’s just awkward looking from that side. Just make it a two door coupe. My only other gripes are the stock tires suck and the tortion beam suspension is garbage.
Hey Matt, is the rattling sound when you're driving from your camera/mount or could you hear that yourself from interior rattling of the hard plastics or something?
How does this compare in terms of acceleration to a 2011 GTI? I test drove a 10th gen civic si today and it didn't feel as quick as my GTI to my disappointment
Matt: What is that strange thing you keep doing with your right hand while accelerating? It looks almost as if your *gasp* SHIFTING GEARS!!! Good to see Hyundai in the "save the manuals" club.
There are some questionable decisions on this car. Especially not offering the Michelin Sport 4 tires on the Auto at all. Could have been an optional charge if they really wanted to go that route. Hopefully the interior isnt as bad as it looks with the hard plastics as mentioned. Waiting for the N! I wish I could attend some of these Hyundai events also ;) I will say the DCT in our EGT Sport has gotten better with a seemingly little learning curve.
crankypipo Ok you can buy an tires separate for full price. Thats upwards of 1,000 dollars which they could easily have as an option for a lesser price.
So looking on the Hyundai website I am building an R spec turbo, yet there's only three color options, there's no red such as the one in this video. Why is that??
To rid factory turbo released vehicles of "Lag", just drop in a K&N Free Flow filter. For the enthusiasts, they aren't interested in the 1.6L - they are awaiting the 2.0L versions ("N"). Far more upgradability with those than the 1.6s.
In your Kia Forte5 SX review (or maybe it was the Hyundai Elantra GT Sport review; cars are so similar), you mentioned that at highways speeds (about 70mph) in 6th gear the car was at 3000rpm which is pretty high considering redline is like 6800rpm. Is it the same situation with this 2019 Hyundai Veloster Turbo or have they improved the gearing?
I might end up trading in my 14 elantra GT 6mt for this. I wish Hyundai would have offered the 173hp 2L as the base engine on this car and the new GT. I really love that engine. Or they could have at least give the veloster the 160hp engine from the new GT
I like the good things I'm hearing about the updates. I hope it ends up being quite a bit quicker than the 7.2s 0-60 first gen VT. I bought a 2014 thinking itd be a quick car. It was a total dog. Keeping my eye on the N model for sure.
Should have bought a Fiesta ST. I compared the two and was far more impressed than the driving dynamics of the Ford. Weight is the enemy, and 200 horsepower in the FiST will get it in the mid sixes. Plus to me the velociter passenger side has never looked right because of that stupid door. Great concept, poorly executed
@@lancemannion4113 The Fiesta ST was way too small for what I needed out of a hatch. It would be a great second vehicle for weekend autocross stuff, but not a daily.
@@TheAdventureAuto I guess it depends how much room you need. I've had mine now for some time and I stick two mountain bikes in the hatch with the seats down so I find there's more than enough room as a daily driver. Combined with the incredible gas mileage you get considering the power and the performance. I just don't think anything in its day competes and even to this day especially given what these sell for now these are incredibly well sorted cars for the price.
Matt, Thank you for doing this, Question! What do you think 2019 Toyota Corolla Hatch( Manual) vs 2019 Hyundai Veloster Turbo(Manual), Can you compare these two cars, and tell me what's your impression? Which one you like more and which one is drive easier and handling better? Thanks
Great review. I had a 2013 VT. The slight updates theyve made are good, except no extra power and that front end was a step back. I know its a brand image but they seem to be literally trying to make it look like a dead fish. The original VT front end looked better. The wider tires are good because the old first gear was nothing but wheel spin. Hitting 7s 0-60 was pretty norm. So glad they fixed the rear end suspension...was so bouncy before. I look forward to the N model review.
The charger you can get it cheaper and it's more aggressive, Luxurious, spacious and also faster and RWD or AWD with the v6 293hp . In my opinion the older veloster turbo looked better and was mor affordable now it's acar that you will say "nah it's not worth it"
I’m not sure people who are interested in the Veloster turbo are cross-shopping a Charger, which is a much heavier vehicle (at least 1000 lbs) than the Veloster and isn’t even in the same category of vehicle. Though it is faster in a straight line, there is no way the Charger can deliver the same type of feel when cornering due to its weight, among other factors.
I had to take in the rear hard by the dealer to get the last one in my area. Value loss is close to $3000 a year. Not what I was hoping for. So many mixed reviews. So cheap in so many ways just look at the lug nut's. I like the plastic interior but trying to add a protective coating is a bitch. Need some heat for full review. Careful with reverse lock.

And the pickup truck obsession 🤢

Hyundai is DEFINITELY stepping up their game compared to what it was 10 years ago
Omar Rubio right? To go from 7k throwaway cars to cars like this and the Genesis is quite the change!
Animated86 they are doing to the Germans and Japanese that those same cars did to the Amerixnas
Matt ur videos make my nights.
Honestly put a smile on my face.

Jq seen alot of cases of dyslexia but this is the most severe.
Great review as always, I'm glad Hyundai went for generation two! Seems all cool cars are being discontinued for crossovers :/
Claire Kennedy hope you like priuses 🙄
Rev To Redline not a fan of the 16+ styling but I enjoy the car and technology. What's that have to do w/ this?
you can ride my veloster any day cutie
I LOVE that exhaust note!! Great review as always!
I purchased the 2020 Veloster Turbo R Spec Manual transmission, great daily driver!
4 mins after embargo? my man!
I watched a video where the Hyundai rep said Veloster R spec is the base for the N version. Take the R and add all the N Performance changes and you'll have the N.

Some of the best reviews that there are out there. Manual and automatic. Full of info. Awesome!
Always though the Veloster had so much potential. Glad to see Hyundai putting more into this car for the next generation!
This looks like what the crz should've been.
tom9154 dude no.....just no.
no what?
tom9154 agreed! .... Honda has lost their way.
Wasn't that a hybrid? What are you talking about dude?
Matt, I'm high AF and was wondering how to put on my seltbeat before the test drive.
I just got one and can't believe how sporty this thing is. Lovin' it!!
👍can't believe I missed this video! Good review! For about 25k I would consider the N if I could get good discount. Lots of options for $25k . CIVIC SI, MUSTANG, Camaro, Challenger, Miata, ect...
Thank you for mentioning starting with the DCT. Its driving me crazy in mine and I was starting to wonder if I was crazy.
This late upload was like bed time story before falling asleep! Always doing your best for great quality content. 👍🏻
Thank you!
Nice review for a Pittsburgh kid in Texas. Glad to see the roads are as “smooth” as around the Burgh.
This car reminds me a lot of the Scion tC. Unique coupe-hatch but this has the performance and quality that the tc didn’t.
Very attractive small car. Interior design is better than I could have guessed. Good job reporting.
Is it me or does the front end resemble the 2018 mustang in some wierd way?
Once you see it.
I think that is why I like it, muscular and sort of animalistic.
I love how you always note the map pockets on these cars that 99.9% of the time have built in GPS.
Thanks, good review. I think the Veloster is a highly versatile car with a lot of feature content. Appreciate its small size.
This makes me excited for you to try the veloster N !
what does the N mean
Sam Sheth nanyang or Nuremberg
Nuremberg sounds weird for hyundai. isn't that more of a german car thing?
Sam Sheth apparently it’s because they test their cars for the Nuremberg or something, their two people in charge of the N division are former M division guys too
Samus Aran It means Nanyang or I may have mispelled but it was developed in the R&D Racing and Development department facility that is located there.
This one looks much better than the previous gen
Another detailed review. Awesome job man. Also thanks for using our song Elevate in your video.
Sweet didnt realize you was dropping it on the dot! Yay!
Can't be beat for $21,400 which is what I just paid for my R-spec. Good luck getting a GTI for that.
Gary Crispin Out the door?
@@jacebrooklyn Not including state sales tax, but yes, out the door. Got it for invoice and then $1750 more factory incentive.
Gary Crispin I just bought one, 22,245 OTD. I paid a little more for the space gray I wanted. Only 2 within 500 miles of me.
i live for the map pockets, bottle holders and cubbies lol ;)
Me 2!

These have always been neat little cars. Looks like they stepped up the performance a bit, a DCT in a Hyundai? Who would have thought haha.
There's a nice red Veloster turbo at my work place...It's AN AUTOMATIC, Strike1, 2 and 3.
Dont ever stop your youtube channel love the content
I feel like the Veloster wouldn't confuse me in some way, because of the three doors
not a bad car...like it better than the old version.
will a regal GS review be coming soon??
Hey Matt I've been watching your reviews for years and always entertaining!!! Giving you a shout out from iraq!!
Great review sir. My 2 dislikes- screen just stuck on the dash and still needs higher power numbers in my opinion. 230hp at least for a turbo “sport” model. Love the looks though
Keep in mind that 200 hp on such a small car ip pretty good. If you want more power just wait for the N version.
Idk why but the A/C noise is so soothing for me.
I dont necciseraly think cheaper materials is a negative to the car. I mean it starts at 18k so you shouldnt expect Mercedes level of interiors.
“Piping in some V8 sound” 😂 idk why that made me laugh. I can see some car companies doing that.
I have a 2015 Veloster turbo. I’ve had it 3 years and put 140k miles on it. Been a great car. I like the look except how the passenger side with 2 doors looks. It’s just awkward looking from that side. Just make it a two door coupe.

This car would probably look nice with a rally look white on white 👌 like a ken block look
Matt Maran BACK AT IT WITH THE WHITTIE REVIEWS. Lol i swear you my dawg i love your reviews. Im a day 1, your my day 1.
They took those rear lights from an aventador...
I’m really digging this design.
That's a good looking car.
I always liked the Velostar. Can't wait for the Velostar N
Uploaded right when the embargo ended lol still nice review as always :)

It's a nicer ricer! I love it! Good review!
I’m really hopiNg to see a review of the N! Did they give any hints as to pricing while you were there?
Best way to take care of the intake situation....get an actual intake🛎
It is not a diffuser, it is a vortex generator. Get it right next time ok? I was worried you would forget.

Very good review !
I bet if Honda sold this as a CRX or CRZ Honda would sell a boatload of these.
Rain Santiago oh fuck yea
Rain Santiago it would have a better engine if Honda built this.
RS1 they still have a new crz on a lot up here lol they still can't sell them
RS1 no not like the crz

Between r-spec or an si which would you choose?

How long till they start making performance parts for this Veloster?

How is vision good out that back window?

That's winter for Australia
Still would rather take the Elantra Sport
Was there change or something rolling around? When you took curves or accelerated I heard a scraping noise
It was my name badge that was on a chain in the cup holder. I should have put it somewhere else but didn't think about it for some reason.

COOL Review: 2019 Hyundai Veloster Turbo
