I notice you have the slight cam tick did you ever fix that noise,my veloster developed it after a engine flush i thinks it because the carbon build has been removed and tolerances has changed, I've got a 2012 marmalade Sr turbo the colour is amazing
I never noticed a cam tick. The injectors on these cars are quite loud themselves and always attributed it to that. Maybe i'm wrong but I never got anything done because the car sounded like this day 1. And as you may know, I bought the car new with 13 miles on it.
@@Chayness I'm going off 19:53 in the video but after watching it agian it sounds Normal my bad I've just got a slight tick more noticeable when the revs drop from a slight hit of the gas, I like the way you set your veloster up and really appreciate the videos it's a good guide to go off for small mods and fixing things like the rubber trim which i was gonna replace that saved me abit of money using the products u used also installing two catch cans, one thing I'm testing out is trying to keep the ignition coils cool by using exhaust tape to protect them abit they seem to get over cooked with out it next mods are exhaust, body kit and a slightly power tune as it's a 2012 don't know when but it will implode one day

yo dawg how do I turn off the AC/Heat setting. I know you can just turn the setting knob to Zero. But I dont like the fact that the light doesnt turn off, or can you turn it off? Like its either turned on for hands, hands and feet, etc but never just off
super late to this Vid. i have a 2013 Remix. Can you tell me about that hood. please? i will look through your other videos to see if i can find one that talks about it.
I do have a video on the hood but it's essentially a replica of the Vis Design Hood. This one was made by Carbon Creations (or was it Carbon Dimensions? lol) and it's essentially a easy bolt on replacement. The only things are that you need to either buy an aftermarket hood prop kit or somehow modify the underside of the hood for the OE shocks to mount to. Also, you have to unplug the "hood latch sensor" in order for the alarm to function properly or else it won't lock. Minor things really but the hood was great. It even comes with an under tray so if it rained, water wouldn't directly land on the engine but rather it would be diverted to two holes towards the front of the hood where no harm would be done.
Any suggestion for changing out the exterior pillar windshield trim? Got the new ones, and cannot pop them on? Any specifics I need to do? Pls help. 2014 HV
Thank you for your attention to detail😊 one thing I really love is the floor board light , in mine it’s blue I love it and the switch for it is in the lower part of the arm glove box ❣️ I didn’t catch that in your video but was wondering do you have it in the 2016? I have in the 2015. 😊
Question I have a 13 Veloster can I buy a 2016 2017 OEM head Unit with Nav and be able to use it like plug and play and then upload android auto and Apple CarPlay
That's hard to say because I've seen some of the early media units have different plugs from the 2016+ models. There are even some EARLY 2016 models that can't get the upgrade because they barely missed the production window. I'd probably first take out your head unit and take a picture of the connectors and compare to a 2017 Navigation unit to see if it would be an easy "plug and play" situation or if you'd be stuck doing some re-wiring.
Here I thought I knew a decent amount about my car, Chay over here proved me wrong, thanks for the tips and tricks, especially with the android auto download, I didnt know it could have android auto! Just need to download it and no more "incompatible software" notification everytime I charge my phone
5:43 If you get tired of always having to hold that button down every time you start the car you can take that switch out and put a jumper across the back connector of the switch so it does it automatically when you start the car. You have to know how to use a meter and determine which 2 wires are the switch signal and which are the power wires. There are 4 wires on the rear but you only jumper the 2 signal wires. Use the continuity checker on the meter, unplug the switch and connect to 2 wires at a time and press the button. When you have continuity then jumper those two wires. I used a small piece of a paperclip so I can remove it later if I want to sell the car. When you jumper the wires the switch no longer works but it will automatically turn off traction and stability controls.
@@Chayness it wasnt too bad, just pop the panel off and bridge the pins. It's so nice to just start the car and it automatically turns all that off for me. I used to have to do it every time I get in and found it annoying. LOL
There used to be if you enrolled onto their "myhyundai" website. Now even through that site I believe there's a charge. May be worth looking into thought cuz it may still be cheaper that way than taking it into the dealership.

I just got my 2020 Veloster turbo ultimate, definitely need more horse power . I need your advice pls at least 50 horses more .. what I need to get it done ? Looking forward to hear from you
The one thing that is required from the newer models is a tune. You won't get much benefit out of even simple mods like an exhaust without a tune as it seems the 2nd Gen doesn't accommodate for minor changes. It's almost fixed to a specific setting. The other issue is that the newer models are equipped with smaller turbos. The 1st Gen was limited with it's turbo so if you plan on getting 50 more horses, you'll need quite an aggressive tune. Even then there's a possibility you won't reach the 50 extra horses due to the smaller turbo.
Great video! Very helpful tips. I just picked up a 2014 VT for my daughter. Low beam headlights seem pretty dim. What replacement bulbs do you recommend? BTW, I love the animation of your LEDs. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks!
The blinking is actually how cameras pick up LEDs. They're just solid lit. No animation. Sorry for the confusion. For headlights, I was using SaberPro's by DDM Tuning but more common would be Lasfit headlight bulbs. I use Lasfit on other vehicles now.
You mentioned being able to install the instrument speedometer cluster like yours being able to be retrofitted into a 2015 base model. What is the additional connector that I would need to purchase?
No worries. You can not. As it's part of a turbo system, a BOV wouldn't be needed and may even have a negative effect if somehow placed due to the lack of high pressure air.
So, you said something about upgrading the AV system to Android car play. You mentioned an SD card slot. And, you mentioned the USB. Just curious...in order to upgrade, do you have to have the SD card or can you use the USB? Thanks and great video.
So there's a specific media player that came equipped on the 2016+ Tech Package that had all the navigation maps on an SD card slot in the front of the player (covered by a door that looks like a button). Sadly, previous tech package units don't have this available to them. Anyway, it's no longer free but I believe you pay like $125 and you can download the update file from the MyHyundai website, you put this file on a USB flash drive, plug it into the USB port at the bottom of the center console and it will upgrade/update the media player of the 2016+ Tech Units (assuming they have the media player with the Memory Card as there were some early 2016 models that sadly didn't get the newer media player). Hope this helps.
I know nth about cars and I FEEL so bad for my Veloster when driving over speed bump or entering drive way😭. Stock height but I feel like sometime the bumper it’s scraping, maybe it just the mudflap🥹
Awesome video! As for the headlights, do the Turbo and the RE:FLEX both use H11B bulbs? I have a 2015 Veloster RE:FLEX and the headlights look just like yours in the video. My driver's side main bulb is out and I want to make sure I know the right type before I purchase a new one. Also, do you know if they're typically LED or not? I want to make sure the old bulb and new bulb will match one another. I'd appreciate any tips!

I have a 2013 non-turbo. Every once in a while the touch screen does not respond and I have found that it corresponds to when the screen is hot. Touch screens normally respond to heat, not pressure. Once the screen cools off it responds normally again. Hope this helps.

I wouldn't say it's super hard but it isn't a beginner task in the sense that it's something the average person doesn't usually want to delve in. But if you're ok with a bit of hands on learning, you should be fine.
Hey! So I haven't had issues because the bottom layer of this hood has a way of rerouting any water to be poured out at the front and this same mechanic block debris from easily getting under the hood

Is it related to transmission oil or sensors!!
I hear you can and I've been hunting for a 2016+ Tech package stereo for awhile. I even have Missy Kitty searching for me haha and no luck yet.... at least, not at a decent price.
Chayness most of them wont be cheap, the blue note transition no matter the car will run u at least a thousand dollars, wont be easy to find anyone doing it for cheap. If u really want u can keep your interface and buy the chip/motherboard and do it yourself for about 400$ but then u run the risk of having something go faulty
@@KrustyyyG Yea, the main issue I have with aftermarket kits is how deep in they sit.... I may have found a kit that fixes this issue but it's so new that it costs $1000 lol so i'm waiting
Hey guys, I found out how to get apple carplay on your Veloster. I have a 2016 Veloster turbo. I uploaded a video where To show that my car does have the CarPlay. If you guys are still interested on getting the software in your entertainment system let me know so I could upload the tutorial.
That depends on preference and your wallet. Most of the exhausts are your typical "loud" type so you can go with the OG which is Magnaflow at about $600 or you can opt for a "clone" which is MBRP at about $300+ depending on metal type and other options. Mine is the Greddy unit which is super quiet and clean (only opens up when high RPM) but will run you $800. And there are other options like from Korean companies that cost even more due to design and shipping.
I have a Veloster 2013 Base and the touchscreen doesn't respond. I would like to purchase an aftermarket Head Unit for it. What brands do you recommend that has the latest features in the market for head units?
I have not upgraded my throttle body or used a TB Plate but as for the intake, I haven't had any issues at all as my intake maintains the hose for recirculation and my BOV is not full vent but a Hybrid so it partially vents and it partially recirculates.
Ah, understood. Mine only recirculates. The issue is stating too high pressure in the manifold, would you possibly think that having a hybrid set up would help?
@@akeemdavis5361 It's worth a try but I would take it to get diagnosed at least because I feel that unless your BPV or BOV is failing, it could be something else.
@@robertdetwieler1631 The bolt pattern is 5×114.3 (which is the same as 5x4.5 but I don't think we go by that measurement here in America) with a bore size of 67.1mm and the thread size for bolts is M12x1.5.
You should be able to but depending on the model of the car and the model of the media unit, you may have to do a little bit of work. I've heard some headunits are locked to a car VIN and i've literally seen some whose wires are just different. I'm trying to do something similar if i'm honest
When you got your rims, I’ve read a couple forums regarding the tire pressure monitoring system (TPS) always being on with aftermarket wheels, did you run into this issue at all?

I have a 2015 Veloster rspec where do I get the 2016 gauge cluster and make it work?!
It requires the gauge cluster and one extra adapter but it's pretty much plug and play. Last I checked, SoCal Garage Works sold both.
Thank you! I'm entering the Veloster community and really appreciate this. Wish I would have gotten a 2016 model now with the Apple Car Play tech package you mentioned
@@Chayness I'm going off 19:53 in the video but after watching it agian it sounds Normal my bad I've just got a slight tick more noticeable when the revs drop from a slight hit of the gas, I like the way you set your veloster up and really appreciate the videos it's a good guide to go off for small mods and fixing things like the rubber trim which i was gonna replace that saved me abit of money using the products u used also installing two catch cans, one thing I'm testing out is trying to keep the ignition coils cool by using exhaust tape to protect them abit they seem to get over cooked with out it next mods are exhaust, body kit and a slightly power tune as it's a 2012 don't know when but it will implode one day
@@jeremynakat5469 You seem to be on top of things and taking care of your ride is always a must for longevity. I appreciate the concern, no worries. Let me know how your ignition coil hack goes.

Thank you, I appreciate it!
This was a great help!!! I’m now a follower!! I just got my Turbo!!! Super stoked to play around with it!! 🤙🏽
Can I also have a screen wallpaper in a 2017 V Turbo, or is it a completely different tech system?
It should be an identical process. The only exception is the models with the Tech Package as those systems had different UI's
Amazing video! I’ve had my 14 Veloster for 4 years and didn’t know about 1/2 the stuff you showed. Great video and explanation! I’m a subscriber now! Keep them up
Thanks! I greatly appreciate the support!
yo dawg how do I turn off the AC/Heat setting. I know you can just turn the setting knob to Zero. But I dont like the fact that the light doesnt turn off, or can you turn it off? Like its either turned on for hands, hands and feet, etc but never just off
Oh I get what you're saying. I don't think it'll work on this as the buttons are digital and it'll always be on one setting. Sorry.
super late to this Vid. i have a 2013 Remix.
Late comment, but I’m thinking of getting a 16 VT how is it on maintenance and reliability in the long run?
Maintenance is normal. Nothing major and I've had no reliability issues
The USB doesn't work with mine unless it's like a iphone charger. Is it because it's not a turbo? I tried 3 different USB
By "the usb doesn't work" what exactly do you mean? Like, it won't read it at all?
@@Chayness yes, it won't read at all

Any suggestion for changing out the exterior pillar windshield trim? Got the new ones, and cannot pop them on? Any specifics I need to do? Pls help. 2014 HV

Thank you for your attention to detail😊 one thing I really love is the floor board light , in mine it’s blue I love it and the switch for it is in the lower part of the arm glove box ❣️ I didn’t catch that in your video but was wondering do you have it in the 2016? I have in the 2015. 😊
i got mine and it’s blue too i didn’t know you can do that. i’m in love with my car. it also has blue ceiling lights in the back
Does anyone know how to fix the touch of the screen? In my 2015 Veloster sometimes it works and others don't. 😔😔
I just bought a 2017 Veloster do you think it was worth it?
Question I have a 13 Veloster can I buy a 2016 2017 OEM head Unit with Nav and be able to use it like plug and play and then upload android auto and Apple CarPlay
That's hard to say because I've seen some of the early media units have different plugs from the 2016+ models. There are even some EARLY 2016 models that can't get the upgrade because they barely missed the production window. I'd probably first take out your head unit and take a picture of the connectors and compare to a 2017 Navigation unit to see if it would be an easy "plug and play" situation or if you'd be stuck doing some re-wiring.
Can those head lights fit on a 2012
As long as you have a VT, yes. NAV's have a different bulb size.
Let’s go!! I’m not the only one with a 2012
Here I thought I knew a decent amount about my car, Chay over here proved me wrong, thanks for the tips and tricks, especially with the android auto download, I didnt know it could have android auto! Just need to download it and no more "incompatible software" notification everytime I charge my phone
Oh hope it helps!
Oh nice tip! a bit more work but I get it
@@Chayness it wasnt too bad, just pop the panel off and bridge the pins. It's so nice to just start the car and it automatically turns all that off for me. I used to have to do it every time I get in and found it annoying. LOL
@@Chayness BTY, I love your videos.
@@dreamweaver961 Thanks bro! Means a lot :)
So I have a 2014 VT in Australia, is there a way to update the maps without having to take it into a Hyundai dealer and forking out $$ for an update?
There used to be if you enrolled onto their "myhyundai" website. Now even through that site I believe there's a charge. May be worth looking into thought cuz it may still be cheaper that way than taking it into the dealership.
Bro I tried connecting my Nintendo Switch with the aux cable (I just got an hdmi adapter today) and it doesn’t appear on the screen, but the Switch is in tv mode that is supposed to appear on the screen :(
Hmmm, i mean either the adaptor is the issue or the other adapter is faulty. Switch shouldn't be the issue
Just bought a 2016 non-turbo version and didn’t realize there was a decent sized scene for this car. Great stuff. Didn’t realize the game console cord was a thing so now I’ve gotta hunt that down lol
Lol yea its a nice little car with lots of support
@@Chayness gotta get a converter for it, but my NES classic will have a nice little home in that center console
@@theretrosunset You know i've also seen people build Rasberry Pi's with emulators. It's much smaller than the Mini consoles and can carry more games and support for wireless controllers. You should check it out lol
Have you ever thought about adding navigation?

Yea thats awesome! Congrats!
Is there any way to connect your Nintendo switch? Maybe through a separate adapter, anyone figure it out? I have a 2016 Turbo
I've always wanted to work on my 2017 veloster value edition. Is it normal for the car to have high rpm when you accel? Even from 0-40?
Mine does
This car sits happily in the 3k RPM range but boost really kicks in at 3k and continues to 4k so it's not too uncommon
Just bought mine today and was wondering the same thing. Same year as well
For the image screen, do you need to keep the usb in at all times?

Can the base trim 2016 veloster have CarPlay installed into it
Not the base unless it came with the Tech Package. The Navigation unit is required for the upgrade.
@@Chayness and is there no way to upgrade to it?
@@c0llinPM You can try to find a navigation unit but it has to be strictly one from a 2016+ model or get an aftermarket stereo
@@Chayness eh I don’t think it’s too big of a deal tbh. I’m gonna be broke after I buy it and the normal infotainment seems pretty okay. Thanks for the answers man. Love the car
@@c0llinPM The normal media player is pretty decent. Still has iPod/iPhone integration, Pandora and Bluetooth so you should be good. Oh also HD Radio and XM/Sirius if you're into that lol
Anyone know why my photos keep saying they are not able to be read. They are JPEG and range from 70kb to 1mb.
You mentioned being able to install the instrument speedometer cluster like yours being able to be retrofitted into a 2015 base model. What is the additional connector that I would need to purchase?
This may be a dumb question, but can you put a blow off valve on a non turbo?
No worries. You can not. As it's part of a turbo system, a BOV wouldn't be needed and may even have a negative effect if somehow placed due to the lack of high pressure air.
Chayness thank you!
@@andrew5383 No problem
@@Chayness appreciate the information, but it looks like I'm just out of luck on this one. Mine doesn't have the SD card slot

I do get the screen itself but no touch screen sensitivity
@@rstylist1 Hey so i've looked and done some research but sadly I came up with nothing. Most things require the touch to work.

I like the longer videos bro. Keep up the good work! Also, I love the hood. You ever have any issues with your intake and the vents on the hood?
Hey! So I haven't had issues because the bottom layer of this hood has a way of rerouting any water to be poured out at the front and this same mechanic block debris from easily getting under the hood

I have a rally edition do you think I could change out the radio interface from one that was in a tech package and get Apple CarPlay?
I thought about getting a badass muffler but what brand do I go with
That depends on preference and your wallet.
You have the best videos, very informative.
Thank you.
Thank you! I appreciate the kind words!
Have you ever had a turbo recirculation issue after an intake and throttle body upgrade?
I have not upgraded my throttle body or used a TB Plate but as for the intake, I haven't had any issues at all as my intake maintains the hose for recirculation and my BOV is not full vent but a Hybrid so it partially vents and it partially recirculates.
Ah, understood. Mine only recirculates. The issue is stating too high pressure in the manifold, would you possibly think that having a hybrid set up would help?
@@akeemdavis5361 It's worth a try but I would take it to get diagnosed at least because I feel that unless your BPV or BOV is failing, it could be something else.
