    The Hyundai Veloster is interesting - and that's an understatement. This in depth video review of the car shows the hardships of modifying one of these cars however. Expensive parts, low visibility, and a few other things. The car though, does has A TON of personality and makes a lot of fun sounds. The turbo motor is nothing short than talkative. Thanks for watching!

      I love Hyundai, been driving various models since 1995, i looked at the Veloster couple of years ago, but opted to go for the genesis coupe instead for a bit of more room in the back to take stuff with me. It`s just a shame there's so many BAD tunes and modifications on them, lots of peeps buying shitty aftermarket kits that say they're bolt-on but they're obviously not. They don't get installed properly by tuning shops that have no knowledge on Hyundai parts or cars or just don't fit and they rig it up to work, but not 100%. Also a lot of the peeps just don't do proper maintenance and bolt these kits onto a 50k mile driven car without even changing their oil or spark plugs. Like with any car just make sure if you do any modifications make sure you hook up with a tuner shop that knows what they're doing. I have most of my modifications from Seoul Full Racing (SFR) (check out their YT channel) and ImportShark, these guys have over 2 decades of experience with hyundai (and kia) and they're awesome and really know their business.

      @@ludog3677 hello, I’ve seen this video and it popped back up in my feed. I have a 2013 VT. I had the turbo replaced at 130k miles. It went out. Just before that, I had to replace engine oil cooler. Before that, normal, cheaper wear and tear. Sparks, battery, had a busted taillight and turn signal never worked and had to buy a housing (LEDS). Car has almost 150k. Right now, exhaust pipe has rusted into three pieces. Check engine light and I have become great friends. I can’t floor it for extreme hesitation, followed by flashing check engine light. Let off, it “hooks” and goes. I hated the 18’s. I went to 17’s and got a taller tire. I got wheels that sit further out (idk much about that, I just know that they slightly poke out now, compared to being slightly inside the wheel wells. I fucking love it. Latest issue has been that the steering wheel has an issue where when you turn, it clunks. It shakes when driving faster speeds. Not awfully, but enough to be concerning (was told it is a “Hyundai” thing?). I still love it. I will keep it. It really is a blast to drive. It can be surprising to some people with the little bit of go it has to it. But it’s nothing to write home about.

    I am an owner of the 2012 non turbo Veloster. I bought it preowned and I do agree that this is a fun to drive car. It had a little over 40K miles and now it has a little over 86K miles. I have driven it from Georgia to Delaware, New Jersey, Florida and Tennessee and back. It drove very good. They only down fall that I could see is when my battery went out on my in North Carolina and I had to purchase a new one. They car did not give me any type of warnings like my former vehicles about my battery having low issues. No battery light came on. Also, I had to get my hatchback hydrolics fixed due to leaks and squeaks, a motor mount and a replacement stereo speakers for the DS front and PS door speaker. They both went out at 2 separate times BUT the good thing about it was the repair was taken care of. Over $1,500 in repair and I had a maxcare plan on it and it was all repaired with no extra charge. That was a blessing! They only thing I did not understand is why did it need new hydrolics for the hatch door and motor mounts when the care had less than 100k miles. My other preowned vehicles did not need these things until they were pushing 200k miles. This car does move well. There has been times when I had to catch myself from riding 100mph. It handles curves well and it does have excellent brake stopping power. I don't like the fact that you can feel every bump when you hit one on the road. My drive in NJ where their roads are bad due to the salt intake in the winter months leave a lot of damage on the roads. The ride was NOT smooth at all. I was glad when I left that area. I was shocked when I took my car to Hyundai and had my alignment done and my alignment was not out of wack too bad. My daughter hates driving my car because it scares her due to the quick stopping power. I always tell her it is better to stop quick than to keep going and stop(Crash). I do find that the ECO is good on gas and it drives just like a manual transmission but when I go on road trips if I remember I turn it off to maximize the drive. The Veloster is a fun car to drive and I say make sure you use a good quality gas additive to keep your fuel injectors clean, Stay on top of your OLF changes, Be mindful of your tires wear and tear, and keep up with your vehicles maintenance plan and have an extended service plan on your vehicle. Also, the back trunk is very roomy when the seats are down. You can fit a lot back there. I have 3 large dogs and they fit back area comfortably both standing and lying down positions. Thanks for stepping up your game Hyundai and keep up the Good Work!!

      You haven’t hit 100,000miles yet. You’ll see more problems around 90k. I say sell it now. It was a quirky car, not a built to last car. You had fun with it, other give it a rest and buy a daily (honda/Toyota) or sell it before it costs more than it’s worth. My friends Veloster is taking a crap and burning 4 quarts ever 500 miles. She has taken extremely good care of it, oil changes every 3k miles, garage kept, daily driven. Hyundais aren’t designed to last longer then 100k miles. Hence why they have that perfectly timed warranty.
      Buy a Honda Civic SI next time. They hold value extremely well, they are the best daily driver, they are safe, and extremely easy to maintain and drive.

      This car has problems straight from the factory so you wind up modifying to try and correct the issues and hopefully increase reliability. This car is the biggest piece of shit. Worst car I’ve ever owned in the past 30 years of having all different types of vehicles. This car I’ve spent over 1.5 times what I paid for the car to repair it and it still has problems that no mechanic or Hyundai themselves can fix. All they want to do is throw parts at it and hope it corrects the problem. This specific vehicle has so many issues that diagnosing problems is most effectively done by replacing parts and that’s shitty. I have a 2014 Turbo model. There’s two different motors for that year which causes all kinds of issues when replacing parts. The 2014 model has similar issues that were recalled on the 2013 model but it’s not covered on the 2014 model. I could go on and on about this piece of shit. All factory, no mods.

      @@djcbanks i found a 2014 with 124k mi for $6k. Has a newly installed used turbo. Previous owner abandoned at a shop and shop is selling as lien sale. You think its a bad idea?

    • @djcbanks
      @djcbanks Рік тому

      @@JPancotti it’s hard to turn down this car with a new turbo for 6K, but I stand by my opinion of this car. I’ve heard some people get lucky and have no issues and then then there are countless stories like mine where you have endless problems. The fact this car was abandoned and someone had to have a new turbo put in is a red flag for me. If you have money to spare and don’t mind troubleshooting and working on your own vehicles, then go for it, but if you need it as a reliable everyday ride, I would say look elsewhere as there are much more reliable vehicles in that price range that won’t give you the hell this car possibly will. Like go for any Honda or Toyota. To be fair though, when this car is running optimally, it’s a fun little car with a very cool unique look that is fun to drive but the days it runs optimally are always short lived because as soon as you get everything fixed and running right, something else breaks, another issue rears it’s head and it’s right back to tracking down what the new issue is. And it seems every issue causes the same or similar symptoms. I bought mine as a daily driver that was to be a gas efficient but still sporty ride that was full of creature comfort but so far that hasn’t panned out for me and it’s been extremely costly. I bought mine used for $13K and I’ve already spent over twice that in tools, repairs and maintenance over the last 5 years and it still has issues I’m trying to figure out. So as a daily driver I would say it’s a bad idea, but as an investment, you could probably make some money parting it out, make back a good chunk of your money just selling that new turbo alone, but it really boils down to what your needs and intentions are. Hopefully my novel I wrote here had some semblance of an answer that helps you with your decision.

      I don't know if you have seen the spy shots of the Veloster N but I kinda don't like it. I feel like they are missing the curve of it in the rear. I could be wrong because I mean no one has seen it without "camo" on it but I guess we will see. I just hope it's a hot hatch and not warm hatch.

      What I'd do for a Veloster N RWD would be nasty! Apparently the i30 N drives like the Type R and that's already nice as hell. I imagine they are going to put as much work into the Veloster N as the i30N. I could be wrong for sure but I would guess that they would make more money of the Veloster N then the i30 N

    • @josephbonano9232
      @josephbonano9232 6 років тому

      Hyundai making a mid engine? Maybe you know something I don't but I don't think I could ever believe that. Don't get me wrong if that was true it would be insane. I'm pretty sure that is already disproven by the track days the car had. I mean I wasn't there obviously but I think the people watching the Veloster N would be able to tell if it was AWD or not. My Guess is it's just going to be the i30 N in a new body that's all really. Type R is way too flashy for me, but imo the i30 N beats the Golf R anyday.

And given the fact of how far Hyundai has come in so soon a time for an automobile company I think they have a very bright future and I hope they will have a very stout competitor for the BRZ/FRS in the near future that has more power and still just grips the road like it's on rails.

    There's a reason for 3 doors, makes the driver side look like a coupe, easy to get in on the passenger side without having to move the chair forward. The car itself is great and reliable, I kinda miss mine. But yeah, people who mod their car too much are bound to run into problems like the owner of that car. Keep it stock if you want a reliable car.

    3 year old video, but anyway, I have on of these. I think the most accurate description you said was "pulls ok on low revs, but on high revs it falls flat on its face". Very very accurate, and many tried to fixed this issue, but it's Hyundai that detuned the engine on this car to prevent detonation, because that little 1.6 can be easily killed by even that tiny turbo. I'd say serious buyers go for the new "N" and don't bother with the other models.

    I have a 2012 None Turbo manual trans. Im now at 78,000 miles. No mechanical failures other than wear parts like spark plugs. I hit some bad pot holes and had to replace a CV axle but i hit two massive pot holes here in San Antonio back to back. The 3 door makes the car a sedan instead of a sports car so insurance is less. Also, it makes it easy for my 11yr old son to get in and out. I did swap the exhaust to a magnaflow and did a short air intake myself. The car has lasted and I have done some small mUK nor mods. I can't afford anything more. Its fun, i have had it since 2012 and cost $16k total. It is super light and in wet weather, traction control is a must. I like the unique design because it stands out. I have tested actual mileage vs the one in the dash and its off by about 1.5 miles per gallon. But I'm getting 32mpg on the highway here in San Antonio with little traffic. I did have to update the Head unit twice myself because Hyundai NW here in town doesnt know what their doing. They forgot to put transmission fluid back in my car after they replaced the CV axle. Then tried to say i needed a new trans when i noticed a noise. I replaced the fluid myself and its been 6 months and no noise or problems. So i learned to do all the work myself. But the only parts or service other than normal has been due to me hitting massive potholes over and over and over again. I also added a nice audio system with a sub, capacitor, 2nd Amp and 2ndary battery to keep my lights from dimming. I don't want to replace it ever. But if i did. It would only be for the Veloster N model. But I aint got $30k. Lol 😭 So nope!

    I personally own one and love it.
    Mind you my past cars were the following:
    1999 Oldsmobile Intrigue
    2007 Chevy Cobalt
    2010 Honda Fit
    I drive a 2016 Hyundai Veloster Turbo.
    I love the sound stock sound system, I love the stock turbo but it could be bigger. I love the sound though it could be throatier, I love the speed though it could be faster.
    But for a lease at $355 a month no money down, it's amazing compared to financing or leasing a Honda in my opinion. You'll be paying at least $450 for anything faster.
    As the first owner of the car, once it's paid off I plan to rebuild it like the Rally version.
    It'd be my first car I modify, but I've had no issue with grip yet. I'd start with suspension, forged components, add another stock turbo, and a shortened EVO VIII differential.
    That's a lot of money after a tune but that puts the car with the STI, EVO, GTI, and Genesis type competitors.
    But yes as a stock car it reminds me of a tuned turbo Honda build. Except without the rough ride, without the bouncy suspension, without the torque steer, without all of the issues you have to modify to make it reliable on a curvy road with potholes.
    Though I do wish it was easier to buy snow tires for this vehicle. I live in Upstate NY

    People are going to trash talk it because its hyundai but havent been in one of these since the old sonatas. They have came a looong way. The veloster, and genesis coupe are good cars. As well as new sonatas. They all do well and can make power with tunes and simple mods, and i dont think you can say the genesis coupe bk1 or bk2 look bad. Not to mention their Genesis brand. The G80 is phenomenal in looks and luxury for price; and no, I dont own any car from this brand. I have been in every car stated in my comment though.

    • @HeavyMetalCowboy90
      @HeavyMetalCowboy90 5 років тому

      kurt nasse lol nah. The Magnaflow exhaust sounds amazing, and the MBRP is even better because it burbles and pops but it’s waaay too loud for a daily.

    • @HeavyMetalCowboy90
      @HeavyMetalCowboy90 5 років тому

      Michael Gallen your definitely right. Sounds like a muffler delete which sounds horrible on these cars. I am going to try a theory though and delete the muffler but keep the stock tail pipes with the built in resonators and keep the resonator after the cat and see if that mellows out the rasp. I have a feeling it will sound good. If not, just cut it all out and slap a Magnaflow muffler in; Problem solves.

      madmatt2024 well she's already selling the Elantra and ready to buy a brand new one... Eventually plans on doing the same whenever they release a new gen santa fe. As long as it last a good 5 - 7 years without needing unusual maintenance there's no problem.

    My 2014 Mazda 3 also has a push-start, and I decided to check out how it dealt with driving it without the key fob. Can definitely still drive off with it after it's initially turned on with the key in the car. I like to warm my car up (as most others), and I'll just have to continue hoping that nobody randomly comes by and snatches it, even though I have the key in my pocket while in my house. I can only hope that higher end cars with the same technology at least prevent you from going anywhere if it doesn't sense the key in it, even if it was turned on while the key was in it at some point.
