This poor young man was mentally and emotionally so used by his mom that he just wanted to fullfiĺ her commands at all costs .He doesn't have the courage to differ about anything that he is told even from the lawyer . He trusted that his mom was right with everything she commanded him to do up to his poor brothers privates then he knew that wont be right .He should come free and get severe counselling an d his mom should pay with her life.

@@susanl5682 I don't agree, he had the conscience to work a job and keep it without being fired. He had the conscience to reduce his involvement by testifying against her. He knew what he was doing was wrong but he did it anyway. I think the prosecutor's questions prove that very clearly. Yes, he is probably disturbed by all of this after the fact but while it was going on, he could have done something to help his mentally challenged brother. He even admitted it was wrong to look up to his monster of a "Mother". He knew what he was doing and he doesn't want to go to prison, that's the issue right there. Yes his monster should pay with her life but he was 19 able to work daily and knew right from wrong.

@sherrieadams1253 it's true, and he doesn't deserve to go free even though I know he was manipulated. You see, siblings do this in abusive homes sometimes. I know that in my family, even under the threat of my mother, I would not hurt my little brother. I wouldn't. I am bigger than my Mom, and the older brother in this scenario is bigger than his mom, too. He had the consciousness of mind to tell her they needed to feed him..? Why not get an Uber and drive to the police station? There are so many questions, and sadly, him admitting fault should not earn him a "get out of jail free" card. I think people are divided on this. I am, too, but the law is there for a reason. I'd feel different if he had come forth before he died, but sadly, he did not. He didn't.

So basically the mother’s defense is to blame her oldest son for this. She killed one and now she trying to force a life sentence on another to save herself. This woman….I mean this monster deserves to spend her life in prison with access only to hot sauce soaked bread and cold water. The evil that exists in some homes is just unimaginable.

This Defense lawyer managed to remove any doubt I had about the honesty of this kid. This young man has been abused and psychologically he is traumatized. He is clearly pained by the realities of his own actions and is remorseful and horrified at the outcome. His mother makes me wonder how someone so depraved and cruel and without empathy, would think that throwing up and having a panic attack in court, will buy her sympathy. No ma'am. We are ready to vomit also. This young man needs intense counseling and a safe place to heal. This woman ...I'll leave her to God.

@@zoep.2891I certainly understand that at times in our lives it SEEMS that God doesn't exist, and we are on our own but after finding a loving Christian church Congregation and teaching their children for years, it's very plain there is a God and we are given the free will to either accept the fact there is a Creator God that we have obligations to, or alternatively we can live like there is no God and no accountability.
There are many, many arguments for the existence of God and ai urge you to seek them if your open to it. The Universe with its natural laws of Physics (I completed my PhD Physics coursework at Purdue University) screams for the Creator God! The constants that bound the various forces in nature (gravity, electricity and magnetism, strong and weak nuclear forces) are so fine-turned that if we were a tiny but stronger or weaker we don't have the Universe and we don't have the 92 elements. There are many, many other compelling arguments and they ALL point the same direction (toward a GOD). The one ultimate proof there is a God and God is loving and just, is that God sent us GOD in human form (Jesus) to help teach us the way to live and love each other and mankind nailed Jesus to a Cross and killed him as a loving act of contrition. God then brought Jesus back to life through RESSURECTION and this even was recorded on his burial cloth known as the SHROUD of TURIN.
I'm an expert in ionizing radiation detection and measuring nuclear weapons in my 34 year National Laboratory career, and the SHROUD image of a Crucifed man validates all the GOSPEL accounts and the only way to create the image TODAY is with a high energy particle accelerator not available till 1980!!
Either the SHROUD was made by ALIENS, or it's actually the genuine burial cloth of Jesus and the image was formed miraculously as Jesus was brought back from RIGOR MORTIS death to life!

Her case can get overturned and even thrown out if he doesn't do a good job. And frankly a lot of attorneys don't do a good job but you're never going to see it because the ones that actually try to do a good job are for huge cases like this so they don't get thrown out a lot of the rest of the small cases it's pretty much terrible court appointed attorneys.

She sounds like she enjoyed traumatizing her children, because this young man seems like he has been abused as well.

I am both a special educator and a survivor of child abuse. My family had a similar dynamic to this one, though it did not reach these extremes. This young man needs an evaluation. While exceptional ed professionals cannot diagnose, I am seeing signs of exceptionalities. I would refer him for an Autism screening. He seems to have high cognitive functioning, but there seem to be some auditory processing inconsistencies. I am positive that he has extreme emotional and behavioral needs resulting from trauma. I would want this young man to receive every bit of treatment and therapy possible to support his further development and recovery. What an awful situation for all of those children!

His lawyer did an injustice to him/ probably wanted to be able to say he was apart of this tragic trial. Paul has emotional and intellectual deficiencies; it’s clear as day. He will say what he has to but he has been programmed as a Stockholm Syndrome victim: Yes , times he spoke of concern for his brother but he is not evil/ his mind is fd up and his mother will have him take the fall.
Justice for Timothy should’ve included a fair psych evaluation for further assessment for punishment regarding Pauls arrested development / They failed Paul.

I grew up with a mother who is similar to his. My heart breaks for this young man. Once I was old enough I realized that my mother couldn’t love all of us kids at the same time. One of us was always targeted and hated. We would be pitted against the “bad” child. We would be rewarded for agreeing with her and being unkind to the current targeted child.
This never stopped. Even into adulthood it remained. She just can’t love all of us at the same time. My mother is very elderly now and I see how messed up we all are. She still tries to pull the typical theatrics but we don’t allow it. We don’t have any family gatherings or holidays together. Everyone has broken off into their own family and everyone does their own thing now. My older siblings have their own grandchildren so they have holidays for their immediate families, my mother isn’t invited or included. Which on one hand seems so very sad but it’s actually for the best. Holidays and birthdays were never focused on that, the focus and energy was on who was hated at the time. Angry attitude, cussing, yelling, name calling or just flipping off the target. Always stressful and heartbreaking.
I know many people are blaming this young man as much as the mother. He is partially to blame, yes absolutely. But he clearly seems to be intellectually delayed a bit. He may also have autism or other mental disorders. I can understand how he was manipulated by his mother. Manipulated and brainwashed into going along with her punishments. I can bet he was rewarded for being cruel to his brother. Those may have been the only times he was ever shown love and acceptance by his mom. It’s hard to understand being raised by someone like that. It warps you. Warps your reality. This young man can see clearly now. He will have to live with the guilt and shame of what he’s done under the control of his mother. Even as an adult you can feel trapped, alone, afraid and can’t stand up to your abusive parent.

I don't think he knew his brother would die from what he was told to do. And all the text proved he was being brainwashed. And told what to think. He knew he was skinny that's what triggered the picture and him sneaking him food but it doesn't prove he knew he would die from it. And I'm sure his mother was telling him he was okay. All the text proved he was being brainwashed so why would he think any different than what she told him. He risked sneaking him food. He still needs some sort of punishment and he knows that. He said he didn't love him enough, so he can see what was happening since he got away from the situation.

@@ShandeleReynolds I believe he is verbalizing something someone said to him, maybe during an interrogation. They must have asked if he loved his brother and when he answered "yes" they probably went on saying he didn't love his brother enough because he didn't help him. Then when the lawyer asked he repeated what that person told him. That sounded like a repetitive script. He obviously feels guilt over, so he agrees with it and is now telling the court basically saying "I realized I was a bad brother because I didn't notice the danger he was in and I must not have loved him enough because I didn't save him but I want to bring him justice now." If he had better ability to communicate, this is what I see from his honesty, actions and speech. I think he did love his brother. But other people are explaining to him that that's not how love is. As someone on the spectrum and with a child on these types of things happen to us a lot and because we don't verbally speak what's actually in our mind well, we have words that we pick from other people and past situations to help us get our thoughts and points out better. If you go back and listen, you can tell what he's trying to say. But you've got to listen with logic and not anger and emotions. The way he says it is not how a typical person would say something like that.

NO WAY, AND HERE IS WHY...I once had an argument with a defense attorney, because I didn't know how he could live with himself defending the indefensible. Through the conversation I realized a few things. We are entitled to a rigorous defense. Would you not want one? Would you want him to leave out some key info, and her be able to get a mistrial, or not be able to be prosecuted because of it (DOUBLE JEOPARDY)? He did his job.
He knew she would be found guilty, but he had to do his job. He did it well enough, so the truth would be shown to the jury, and no one could say her defense was inadequate. Notice the prosecution didn't come to Paul's rescue? What was said, needed to be said.
The ridiculousness of her defense had to be highlighted by a participating witness and well-crafted questions. No appeals here, he did a good job. She will be in jail for the rest of her life, as she should.
Don't judge him negatively for being good at his job. The prosecution and defense did good work here, and because of that, she should have zero basis to get out of jail. Focus your disgust on her, not the attorney. I don't know in this case, but often times defense attorneys are assigned to cases, they don't have room to choose.
Further, there are some videos I've seen where he completely turns his back to her while they are next to each other. I don't think this is the client he would want to represent based on that and the questioning.

The most telling part of all of that, the one that REALLY reinforced the fact that he was being honest, is when he mentioned giving his brother a PB&J and some eggs with cheese. He didn't look towards the jury. He looked, with panic, at his mother. For revealing that he gave Timothy food... I understand that Paul needs to be punished, but I hope that mitigating factors are looked at and that he gets some serious, serious help. I don't believe he would've hurt anyone on his own... Yet another life impacted by the mother's actions. I cannot excuse his role, but I can almost understand how he got there. @zoep.2891 anyone that can willingly carry out the type of abuse and neglected his mother was "forcing" him to do needs to be locked away. Normal people would refuse. Normal people would call for help

This Attorney basically put his client in jail. Besides her own vile actions, he literally directed him keep mentioning the fact that he was in fear as well. I can’t imagine the despair that Timothy felt, while the rest of the family slept in a cozy warm bed, he slept and died on a tarp in a cold basement room. That’s a vile woman.

Not only that but he fully disclosed the name of the youngest child (G) they were supposed to not be naming. He was a horrible attorney.. he couldn't even remember her husband's name..

He was a terrible attorney and should be ashamed of himself

      @WrightNowWrightAway:
I agree. When he talked to the coroner. He stumbled over his own words, said he forgot his question, when she asked to repeat it and then he laughed weirdly. It seemed, they had took a random weird off the streets and just appointed him defense attorney.

@@fuller8705Well what possible defense do you think he had to come up with when the text msgs say it all. He is a public defender, he doesn't get to pick and choose who he has to represent. He was interviewed after the trial and said the circumstances were the worst he had seen. Would you prefer that he came up with some fantastic legal loophole and got her off? B*tching about him not defending her adequately, but if he had gotten her acquitted, you would be b*tching about that. Pretty easy to sit at your computer and spew your judgemental insults, but I would love to know what legal maneuvering you would have done in his situation... smh. You should be ashamed of yourself, not him

@@jillijane9793 That part. I had a sense that in a weird way he tried to help Paul by asking him certain questions.

His testimony breaks my heart. As someone raised by domineering, narcissistic, abusive parents, it breaks you down. The term he was searching for was “trauma bond”… not trauma over his brother, the trauma from his own abuse and constant seeking for approval. To have made the realizations he has at such a young age and then to take complete ownership of his actions, in spite of the fact that he was also a victim, it shows he never would have done such things on his own. Where his mother is faking all of her emotions about Timothy, it is clear Paul is not. I hope he gets time served and a good therapist.
