The irony about him being called paranoid for believing everyone around him was plotting to manipulate him is that… well, he was right. Tywin WAS trying to ingrain his family into the Targaryens.
The greatest mistake of Aerys is his appointment of the Master of Whisperers. That man was working to overthrow targaryn dynasty and secretly work for blackfyres.
Thank the old gods for this video. Made a good move appoint Tywin as Hand can't argue that. Never knew Brandon & and Robert were born at the same time or close interesting.
I see a lot of parallels or even warning signs between Aerys II’s early reign and Baelor’s. Both had grand and outlandish plans for the kingdom. Unlike Baelor, Aerys II didn’t have the focus to make those dreams a reality. Unfortunately as his reign continued, his manic personality would be twisted down a darker path.
I’m thinking about the old town theory I think it’s called and wondering if he might have been slowly poisoned over time with the intention of making him go crazy. There is also the bran time travel making him crazy theory. It could have also just been grief from loosing two of his children as babies.
Seven hells there was A Targaryen nicknamed the Wise!?!!? Gods be good that is something I never knew !!!! For the lord commander For the watch & all my brothers in black !!! Brother Bittersteel we have plenty of wine for all 3 of us!! I think we should arrange a Tourney at Harrenhall ! I didn’t know about this King !!
@lukebarroso449 true my friend if only there was a of age Blackfyre around this time. Great to see you again as always. Hope you are doing great. The The King and To You!!!!!
While Aerys II could have been a great king if given enough time to prepare for his ascension the death of Jaeherys II forced him into a role he was woefully unprepared for and worse his vanity led to questionable decisions that were only tempered by his hand Tywin who eventually ended with Aerys ultimately undermining him at every turn out of spite while the Hand's sound governance gave Westeros a brief period of prosperity Aerys became increasingly paranoid believing that Tywin meant to depose him and raise his heir Rhaegar to the Iron Throne while not completely unfounded the rumors only spurred Aerys' already erratic behavior
Only smart thing this man did was make Tywin Lannister his Hand of The King. Went downhill from there. I also believe that his son Rhaegar would have been a good king if he wasn't also a dimwit.
You could say it was the least wise thing he ever did when you consider how things ended up. Would he have been a better king if he had kept his fathers advisors and potentially not gone as mad.
On paper, Cersei was the best match. Pretty, rich, healthy and of a paramount family. The 'servant's daughter' idea was a made up insult from Aerys as queens came from much less prominent families before. But Aerys was wary of Tywin and not willing to give him any more power. And that woud come with being the father of a future queen and grandfather to future heirs. Had Tywin was more subtle and less 'Tywin' about his designs, and insted played up the resemblance between Cersei and Joanna, he might have gotten his wish. But I also don't think Cersei would stop her thing with Jaime completely, so Rhaegar, Cersei and Jaime would be is a wierd triangle... Of course, the very idea of how to keep Jaime close - making him a Kingsguard - became the straw that broke the camel's back. Tywin took a lot of insult and mortification from his King, but this stealing of his heir set the stage for his change in allegiance.

Pycelle too.

1st to take the Black for House Blackfyre 🗡 The Greatest King😄
Aerys literally is the worst king. I think rhaegar might have been decent if he didn't run off with lyanna.
To The King! 🍻

Rhaegar the raper

If duskendayle hadn't of happened Aerys would've never gone mad
Still would've been a terrible king though...
This is kinda the real start of ASOIAF
Hmm served the purpose well.
Cant wait til this series!!!! When we find out that the three dragons Cersei, Jaime, and Tyrion are his children.
If only aerys married rhaegar to cersei
You are my most able servant, Tywin, but a man does not marry his heir to his servant's daughter.
