In a few generations his great grandson became the Mad King and plunged house Targaryen to the point of extinction. Ironic an unlikely king would play a part in their demise.
I saw one comment somewhere that proposed Maekar's wife, Dyanna, died in a carriage accident, and Queen Myriah Martell faced criticism for how long it took her to publicly comment on her daughter-in-law's death. I choose to believe Maekar loved Dyanna very much.
My first thought is that Maekar was a meh king but when you think about it he is probably the 4th or 5th best. 1. Jaehaerys I 2. Daeron II 3. Aegon I 4. Aegon III 5. Maekar or Aegon V As Tyrion pointed out Viserys II could've been as good as Jaehaerys I but he died too soon
I'd swap Aegon the 3rd for Aegon the 5th's successor, Jaehaerys the 2nd. Although he only ruled for 3 years and had frail health. He did not lack for spirit or will. He repealed the more excessive of his father's reforms to grant power to the small folk, which pleased the nobles without costing the love of the small folk. And although he did not fight in the 5th Blackfyre Rebellion. He did want to command it himself but was counseled against it.
@@philippeblais8594 I put Aegon III because he basically sorta did what Jaehaerys II did for longer. He rebuilt the country and things more or less ran smoothly under him. Whereas Jaehaerys II was a lite version of that
@@Spongebrain97 I would say Aegon would be a top contender if he were actively involved with governing the realm. Cause if I recall correctly, he did nothing to really make himself be liked as a king and never left the red keep at all. He spent much of his time brooding over the traumatic things he saw as a boy during the dance of the dragons.
It’s kinda nuts how everyone was fine with Aerion who they knew was nuts, becoming king, but once he died, they couldn’t chose over Maegor who’s only fault was that he was 1 and Aegon who was a perfectly healthy man, just grew up with peasants
Maekar was probably doing something right as king if the Blackfyres didn’t want to fuck around because they knew they were gonna find out 😂. As the Peake’s were their most loyal ally it’s even possible the rebellion was intended to kill Maekar to make way for the fourth Blackfyre rebellion.

I don't believe that he killed Baelor on purpose. He loved all his brothers and served Aerys faithfully while Aerys was king. And Maekar himself was a good king, too. His reign was peaceful and prosperous. And he died protecting his kingdom and family. Died a little bit stupid death, but nonetheless.
Maekar is such a kingly name, i love it lol

Not Aegon but his children
@@sandragik5595 If I remember correctly Aegon V The Unlikely successor was his son Jaehaerys II and his successor was Aerys II known as The Mad King.
@gonzaloarroyo4262 Yes, Aegon's children, Jaehaerys and Shaera, ran away together and secretly got married. That resulted in Aerys II "the Mad King."
12 years of peace but still has a lot dark spot ouch show that peace can come at cost for the foreseeing future.

I like to think he softened up in her presence

Replace Aegon 3 with Veserys 2
Meanwhile Bloodraven in the background rubbing his fingers together at the amount of Targaryens who “randomly” start dying
First to take the Black 🖤

1st to take the Black for House Blackfyre🗡

You could say that Aegon V is Baelor's legacy. Aegon has some of his traits
