The Ford Escort RS1600i: Success or Failure?
Вставка

- Was the Ford Escort RS1600i repair a success or a failure?? The repair was certainly bigger than what it came in for but now the car is back to being solid again. We've replaced the full inner wing, half the bulkhead, battery tray and a section of scuttle....all while keeping the engine in! Phew! One more classic fast Ford lives to see another born again boy racer enjoying taking it out for shows and trips to the chip shop!

That was so ridiculously fun to watch. Excellent workmanship.
And frankly quite calming to watch too...
The Bob Ross of car restoration???... 👍
Bob Ross of car restoration! You're too kind! Really glad you enjoyed it!
Just a quick question when it comes to welding vehicles old steel grades vs new steel grades: when you source steel, and given the advances in (automotive) steel materials science, do you get issues with regard to welding different types or unknown grades. Do you use steel suppliers that provide you with specific steels to prevent problems appearing in the long run?
Another great restoration one car I would like in my garage👍 keep up the good work especially, on Fords.😉
Superb workmanship. Really enjoyed watching you putting this car back in roadworthy condition.
Great work, lovely Escort, thanks for sharing. 🐵
Well done on that ide of lost my head and ir welding is top noch art ide say mate
Wow what a job
A completely invisible repair even if it was on show and not hidden. Absolute perfection 😎👌
Really nice job! 👀👍
That corner is now way better than it was when new. Very nice.
Very impressive 🤙🏼🤙🏼
First class, thorough job. Highly recommend this series to anyone who hasn't seen all the videos. Very, very good watch.
Thank you very much David! Glad you enjoyed the series....more Ford crispy goodness coming soon!
The results speak for themselves
Amazing and saved another one 👍👍
Gret job, i can remeber back in the day fitting the headlamp and indicator was a pain. Also your colour match looks ok on camera the owner should be well happy with the result.
Stellar job on a dead in the water RSi
The quality of work done to the Escort is very impressive & a pleasure to watch.
Really glad you enjoyed!
Fantastic workmanship you have done to that rs .I can remember i went to see a xr3 w reg in 1999 it was moted the battery tray was rotten. bulk head as well the seams around inner wings was corroded at outer wings .. like that rs .i walked away from it.. he wanted 650 for that death trap ..it was a shame.the rest of the car was nice .i wish had the skills back then to weld it get off cuts from a scrap escort that were around back then in scrap yards i never got to own one. they were even hard to get back then in decent nick .keep up the good work mate
Excellent work guys, the Escort looks amazing, the work you've done puts the rest of the car to shame. The one slight gripe I do have is, I'd love to see more of your actual craftsmanship. The video often focuses on you explaining the problem and what needs to be done, then cuts to you having completed the task. I don't want this to sound critical, but it would be great if you could get more footage of you performing the work - I'd find that really engaging.. as the end product is absolutely flawless.
Amazing work.👍
Excellent job and videos on a legend of a car, great stuff.
Absolutely first class work. Great to see good workmanship great to watch.
Great job escort looks amazing 👍
Looks a great job I hope to see some more rusted fords get your magic 👍
Nice Job 👍 love those 1600i seats. 👍
Thanks! Are those seats unique to the 1600i?
@@WhitelandRestorations yep 👍
Made by scheel - think they did seats for other vehicles
@@mcjjordan 👍
We thought they looked a bit like seats we'd seen in a Lotus one time
As always great work..
Thank you!
Wowsers.
Fantastic work.
Thank you! Cheers!
Amazing work
Thank you!
So good to see you up and about :) Nice work on the Ford.
Full recovery thank goodness!
Great work guys 👏🏻👏🏻
Cheers!
Brilliant end result 👍👏
Thank you! Cheers!
I painted that colour a lot back when they was new ish I started just painting the whole side
Sometimes that's the only way to paint blue...blend it and send it! 😁
Brilliant, thank you
You're very welcome!
Great video yet again, also nice to see you've got your Mojo back.
Yeah us too!
Nice job guys you make it look easy but easy it ain’t 😜👍
Amazing work, impressive to watch you finalizing the work done on this Escort!
Glad you enjoyed it! Great to get another Escort all buttoned up!
Now it's an Escort again after being an Escrot.
Improvement can see your lovely work now gd job
Thank you so much 😀
Fine craftsmanship Lewis. Your meticulous work will outlast the rest of the car.
10 years time there will be half a bulkhead sat in someones garage 😂
@@WhitelandRestorations 😂😂😂
Weld on wings. What a pain but Ford eventually phased it out on their cars. The KA might have been the last one.
I really enjoyed watching this repair / restoration series, as an owner of one of these I 've now seen places of this model that I never want to see 😆
I have to say your fabrication skill are amazing ....... as was your meticulous attention to detail,
I know the values of these old Fords are ridiculously high but I would guess that the work you put into this must be pretty costly and close to becoming uneconomically viable? good to see another one live on though,
Got yourself a new subscriber here 👍
Another Quality job I see.
Thank you!
See you good at that as well as windscreens. Lol
Ayy up, Mk3 Escorts was made to rust, when a mate had his RS1600i,his scuttle and batterie tray went,he ended up rebuilding the whole car again and fitting a tilt and slide sunroof from an scrap XR3i.The car is in post office red and still doing rather well in the RS Owners club,I also think he had the Engine sorted to around 1700cc but it had a lot of torque steer, they would have been better made RWD imo. Great job by the way 😊
Very common for rust in that area aren't they! Glad your friend managed to save his...a lot didn't!
Not sure how true it is but when i was a apprentice mechanic i was told alot of fords that are d reg and older were made over here and e reg and newer were made in Germany and galvanized. Did seem believable as d reg and older fords really were rotboxes.
I had one of the first XR3i's to come into Huddersfield (EJX 744Y) in 1983. I was lucky to have a friend at the local Ford dealership, the car had to be ordered in with a few weeks wait time, and he gave me a heads up as soon as it arrived on the transporter. It was still in wax protection, all the stickers on it were in German, that particular car was made in Germany.
I sprayed a rear wheelarch on my Mk1 Focus with a can of Metropolis Blue I bought from Halfords. From one angle it's a perfect match, step back and it looks completely wrong and you can see where I sprayed up to a hard edge of masking because I was rushing. I haven't lacquered it yet though. Luckily it's a low-value car I can use to experiment on.
Keep practising, it's the only way to get better! Think we've got a video about how to do a soft edge mask if you have a look in the how to guides 👍
Hi good content what primer are you using ? Seems to be sanding nice like chalk
Well what happened to the over riders? did you fit them back on?
Any time you've an old ford in the shop, I've got to watch. That rs is ❤. Still waiting for more progress on the fiesta supersport. What's happening with it?
Lucky for you we have a few more old Fords on the way, Supersport included!
@@WhitelandRestorations that's good news 👏 👍 😊
After all that work, it's a pity that you only see something of it when you open the hood.
Always the way.... we all know it's there though thank goodness lol
From fiasco ford to fantastic ford 😊
It's the only way lol
You did a great job, but it could have been a lot worse on a Ford of that age.👍
So whats the other side like?
Good thank goodness! Passed its MOT at the weekend 👍
Nice job on that, shame you didn't put the join back in the hinge/bulkhead side panel.
